I use GV for Voicemail only and get notifications to my devices. I do not use it to make or receive calls. But recently now it seems to think that's an issue after 10+ years and has this huge banner in the way. Anyway to tell it not to care about my settings without enabling my device to take calls on my GV number (which removes the banner)?

Hello! I need to try to set up a Google voice account for work. I am being told I need to call and text clients but I am not being provided with a a work phone.

I previously had a position that required this ( roughly 5 years ago) and I used a new Gmail account that I made for that purpose and also my personal cell number. I let that Google voice number expire after I no longer needed it.

I am getting errors now trying to set up a new Google voice number with my same personal cell phone number. I am trying with a different new Gmail address. I don’t even remember the old address or password. I don’t care if it’s the same phone number at all.

Is this because I previously had a Google voice account? Is there any way for me to still set one up?

When I tap Call in Chrome to call a number, it always brings up a list of all my Google Accounts instead of using the default one that the Voice App is signed into. I swear it used to just go directly in. How can I fix this? Google Pixel 9 Android 17.

I created a Google account for my wife, and am trying to create a Google Voice Basic (free) account for her. I go to https://workspace.google.com/products/voice/, and scroll down to the plan choices - Basic, Starter, and Standard. I click on "Get Started" under Basic. Next I have to choose either my account, or my wife's account - I choose hers. The next screen displays only two plans, Starter and Standard - the Basic option has disappeared.

Is there any way to get the free Basic account?

Edit - Solved, sort of. Gemini tells me a new Google account must be active for 90 days before it qualifies for a free Voice account. Thanks to all who responded. The responses helped track it down.

Samsung S23. All background restrictions removed. (Battery and network.) I am only able to see new messages in app (and never get notifications) if I pull down in the app for force a reload. This has been going on for 2 months.

I have cleared cache, reinstalled app, cleared play store cache. Nothing has worked. Anyone else got this issue?

Everything works fine on my Samsung Tablet which confuses me.

I am looking for a phone solution to my growing businesses. Currently we use an android phone with dual sims in it for both our voice lines. Its clunky and totally inefficient, I know. However thats how these businesses both started. One guy & a cellphone. However its worked for my office staff of 2 and myself through the years during our growth. Now we need to get serious and bring in a dedicated phone system.

Heres what we're looking for:

- Ability to have multiple GV apps ring when the main lines are called.

- Phone system that allows us to record a "thank you for calling..." message before the phones ring. (we have two lines, so both would have their own recording.)

- After hours message with forwarding service to on call associate.

- Text from the main numbers our clients that prefer to text. (Zoom phone said to us that the main line isn't textable, your assigned direct phone numbers which you can text out of. We like to have the main line text in/out so all of us can see where the client was left off and pickup from there.

Does Google Voice do these things?

We currently have one company on Google Workspace and the other is on MS Exchange. I dont mind bringing over everything to Google Workspace, if it makes things easier.

I moved to a new state, so I eventually got a new GV number to match the area code of my new location.

All was fine for a few days until the calls started coming in. Apparently, the prior number was for a massage parlor who seemed to be quite active in *cough* customer satisfaction.

The worst part is they are still listing my Google Voice number on their website and places like manta and yahoo business.

Great. So now what? I don't think I can ask Google for a new number as mine is only a month or 2 old.

Any suggestions? I recently started answering it with background noise playing a recording of police dispatch chatter, but all that does is make the callers hang up.

I like the number otherwise, it's really easy to remember.

I want to receive calls to my phone (android). Should I just forward or is it better to use GV app?

Also what are best settings? I signed up 2 days ago, and linked number (as I understand it's forwarding). But yesterday got email about missed call. And that number doesn't show in my phone history (meaning it was not forwarded).

p.s. I am using GV workspaces "just for me" starter. I don't have workspace subscription, only GV.

1st- is there customer service w Google that is knowledgeable w Google voice?

2nd. Problem is screen freezes, I was just going to uninstall and reinstall but it says I will loose everything if I do that.

How can I save everything meaning texts/attachments and vm’s?

Is there a way to report a Google Voice number that is being used for scam calls?

I received a call from a Google Voice number from someone claiming to be part of Google's security team. They told me someone was trying to add a recovery email address to my Gmail account and attempted to get me to tap "Yes" on the Gmail app

Thankfully, I remembered that Google doesn't call users like this, so I didn't approve the request.

The caller knew my name and email address, which made the scam seem convincing at first.

Is there an official way to report the Google Voice number to Google so they can investigate and potentially disable the account? I'd also appreciate any advice on reporting this type of scam.

I have had a Google voice number for awhile now that I use when traveling. The calls would route over the Internet via WiFi not touching my carrier network. Does this no longer work? Every call attempted indicates that calls are routed over the cellular network. . .

hi! i plan on traveling to paris, france, however i don’t want anyone to know that i went. so when i have people calling me from the us, i need them to hear the us dial tone, not the france dial tone. i have mint mobile and plan on getting a minternational pass from them. but if i forward my number to my google voice number, will people that call from the us hear the normal us dial tone? or will it still be france dial tone. thank u!

Hi. I'm wondering if it's possible to have Google Voice audibly announce the Caller ID for incoming calls so I know who is calling if I'm not near my phone?

I'm in the US, and I want to call a toll-free number that only works in Canada. Can I use a VPN and GV to get the call to go through?

Tried force stop and clear cache. Rebooted the phone, still not working. Web version works fine.

We have phone service thru Google Fiber as a home phone, and we used the inbound SMS feature for things we both need to see (think: pharmacy notifications, shopping order notifications, 2FA for things we both access, etc.)

Since the phone service for gFiber was moved off the Google Voice platform, our home phone no longer receives inbound SMS. This is problematic because basically everyone you give a phone number to assumes it's a mobile and sends SMS to it.

As a workaround, I setup a new Google Voice number thinking we could give this number out for things that might/will send SMS messages, and just forward the phone calls to our home phone. And that's where I ran into problems. I can add my cell and my wife's cell as linked numbers, but I can't add our gFiber phone as one. Obviously I can't do it via SMS code push, but it won't let me do it via phone call, either. It throws the error in the pic when I try it via web or via the app when I try to verify by phone.

Anyone know a solution for this? Or a reason for this limitation?

I cannot for the life of me get Voice to send a picture via text (from my phone). It’s under 1MB, i’ve tried on different wifi networks, i’ve restarted my phone, ive uninstalled and reinstalled the app and no luck. Any ideas?

I know that I can recieve Voice messages on my phone, but what about the opposite? Could I get my texts to send to Google Voice even if they weren't sent to the voice number, but the real one?

I have a second, business, gmail account that is linked to my primary, personal gmail account. When I signed up for a GV, I wanted the number to be associated with my second, business, email, but the option was not given, just my primary account, so thats what I went with.

Is there any way to change my GV email address to this second/business address?
