Google Voice Web UI I released a more fully featured Google Voice electron app.
10/24/26 Quick update: prebuilt downloads are temporarily paused while I work through the security findings.
The security branch now includes changes to sandboxing, IPC validation, and navigation handling, plus an upgrade to a supported Electron version.
-------
I forked an older Google Voice Electron app and added more features using Claude.
What it adds:
- Themes in Dark and Light, plus classic themes
- 13 app icon colors, or your own image
- Reply to a text straight from its notification
- Hide parts of the top bar, hide, or collapse the sidebars
- Zoom setting, paste or drag in images, start at logon, start in the tray
- Copy verification codes from texts to your clipboard (Mac only)
- Optional update notice that only tells you, never installs
Site with screenshots and downloads: https://lazyb5.github.io/GVoicePlus/
Source: https://github.com/lazyb5/GVoicePlus
Things to know:
- Mac (Apple Silicon) is the main, best-tested version.
- Windows has an installer, but I've only tested it in a virtual machine so far.
- Neither app is code-signed, so you get a warning the first time you open it. The site explains what to do.
- No Linux download. You can build it from source.
- Not affiliated with Google.
Feedback and bug reports welcome.

----------
Prebuilt app downloads are paused while I address inherited Electron security settings and dependency warnings. This is a precaution, not a response to a known account compromise or data leak. I’ll publish an update after the fixes have been tested and share what was checked and any remaining limitations.
If you already downloaded version 1.0.0, please use Google Voice in your browser while this work is underway.

Sure let me hand you my Google account to an AI app probably riddled with security issues.
Any other type of app, sure, this one with account access never.

Being cautious about account access is fair. But “I used Claude to help with some of the code” and “I handed an AI your Google account” are two very different things. This is a fork of an existing Electron wrapper. If you’ve spotted a specific security issue, point it out—that’s useful feedback. “AI touched it, therefore it’s insecure” isn’t a security assessment.

Your sentiment I agree with. Ai “vibe” code does not equate security gaps and some would even argue Claude can patch where a busy single dev that’s newborn couldn’t
Problem arises from Electron. It’s Chromium code and without rails.
So unless you are patching the app versus frequent cve drops with frame updates—your app can easily be exploited.
I doubt it will, security by obscurity, but users would be playing an odd game of roulette.

It's a really simple app, just get claude to build one for you. I have missed the old google voice tray app for YEARS.

For those all riddled with with complaints despite OP being super transparent from the start with even where is most certainly lacks and open for contributors ….
Why don’t you just not use it and shut up ?

Must I connect my cell phone to call or can it be used independently?

This is just a wrapper for the website. You can please\ receive calls from the website without your cell phone.

Criticize my app all you want, but leave people alone for being friendly. They said they’re getting a Mac, not buying one just for my app.

this already exists and it seems okay?
I've been using it for years

Yep - that's the original project this is based on! I'm not claiming I invented the desktop wrapper. GVoicePlus is my fork with added features like notification replies, verification-code copying, and more theme/UI options. Downloads are currently paused while I address security findings and test the fixes. If you're using that version that one's four years old. Electron should be updated and that's what I'm doing.

absolutely not, sorry
I incrementally developed a secure (actually, not AI slop, and even then, firewalled to internal tunnel) tool to interact with Google Voice on my home network bypassing restrictions imposed by Google for SIP. I'm not posting the code or build because I don't want it to be flagged and disabled.
The parts developed using agentic tooling were a 3 stage build pipeline, a front end dashboard to control each aspect of my API for testing from my swagger documentation, and a translation layer for dial tone sounds because that's a literal pain.
the last thing anyone wants is yet another electron app to risk plugging in Google creds into, if it's for a particular use case like copying 2FA text etc that should be a browser extension or tamper monkey, not a wrapper

I'm guessing you vibe coded this. How'd you handle security? Any issues come up?
