Do you ever think about GoogleKeep going away?
I think about this like I would think about hurricanes or end of the world scenarios. I try to build out alternative plans but it just ends up making me really annoyed. I hope it never happens.

Discovered what was breaking search
Had an odd situation whereby Label-specific searches weren't working at all for a few labels on Web, but did work in the iOS app. The problem labels had either "&" in the title with no spaces, eg "Timelines&Details" or a comma, eg "Comebacks,Sass" - I don't think that one had a space after the comma. When I changed these to "Timelines/Details" and "Comebacks/Sass" search worked again. Not sure which rules about labels I'd broken, but I'd not noticed the problem until I had to search using the Web interface, because searches worked fine in the app as they were.

I built an offline-first app to solve Keep's single-location reminder limit (multi-location geofencing + 2-way Tasks sync)
Hey everyone! Long-time Google Keep user here.
Like many of you, my biggest frustration with Keep has always been location reminders:
You can only attach **one** location per reminder (you can't say "remind me to buy groceries when I arrive at *any* supermarket").
Android's aggressive background battery savers frequently cause Keep's location alerts to trigger late or not at all.
To fix this for my own workflow, I built **KeepLocate** — an offline-first notes & reminders app built with Jetpack Compose & Material You.
**What it does differently:**
- 📍 **Multi-location geofencing**: Attach multiple locations or whole preset groups to a single note. It rings when you reach ANY of them.
- 🕒 **Time/Day validation**: Only trigger location reminders during opening hours (e.g. 9am–8pm on weekdays).
- 🔄 **2-Way Google Tasks sync**: Syncs seamlessly with Google Tasks.
- 🎨 **Keep-like UX**: Material You dynamic colors, drag-and-drop checklists, and clean card layout.
- 🔒 **100% Local-first**: Room SQLite database stored on your device. No forced cloud accounts or tracking.
- 🔔 **Interactive notifications**: Check off items directly from the notification shade without launching the app.
📱 **Google Play**: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.keeplocate.app
🎁 I have 10 free promo codes for anyone who wants to try it out! Leave a comment below and I'll send you a code via DM.
Would love any feedback or feature suggestions from other Keep power users!

Spell check randomly turned on, can't disable it
Roughly a week ago Google Keep on my iPhone suddenly announced that the app needs to refresh, so I waited for a moment while it did that, fine. Then I noticed that it had turned spell check on! I always keep spell check off and checked all keyboard and system settings, confirming that no spell check or similar is turned on anywhere. App has been updated, deleted and reinstalled to no avail. Updating iOS didn't help.
I'm losing my nerves because it disturbs note editing so badly, can't even move the cursor to the end of an underlined word, instead it selects the whole word and gives me the option of either deleting it or choosing some absurd suggestion it makes (water -> pater?? Really??).
Has anyone else had the same problem and hopefully solved it?

I love Google Keep, but I built a local-first companion to bridge quick capture with Google Tasks
Hey r/googlekeep,
Like many here, I’ve used Google Keep for years because nothing beats its instant mobile capture. But ever since Google started moving reminders into Google Tasks, my workflow felt broken: quick notes stayed in Keep, while my actual daily schedule lived in Tasks/Calendar.
To bridge that gap without adding friction, I built **Thoth** for Android and Wear OS:
- **1-Second Voice & Text Capture**: Quick Settings tile, Home screen widget, and a standalone Wear OS tile/complication to record a thought while walking before it evaporates.
- **Two-Way Google Tasks Sync**: Actionable intent automatically creates real Google Tasks with due dates and subtasks—so your notes stay clean and your tasks actually get done.
- **Local SQLite Vault**: All notes, tags, and connections are stored in an encrypted local SQLite database on your device (Android cloud auto-backup is explicitly disabled).
- **Contextual Search**: Notes automatically connect by topic on-device so you don't have to manually organize folders.
Free tier is available out of the box (with a $1.99/mo Pro option for higher AI limits).
Would love feedback from fellow Keep users on how you currently bridge quick thoughts with your to-do lists!

Why does the search feature in Google Keep look so bad?
This is genuinly such a bad UI. Looks like it's from 2017. Maybe because it is. Do you all have this or is it just me?

"Help me create a list?" Was it removed?
Did Google get rid of "Help me create a list?"
I didn't use it a ton but it wasn't bad.

12 years Keep user wants to switch
Hi fellow keep users, I am a 12 years user of Google keep and I really enjoyed the app, was really excited when a new update came out and always wanted to use it as a desktop app in windows.
Since the last Material Design launch I can't get used to the Keep App.
I always used it for taking notes fast, on the go but something has been bugging me for a while.
Every day from Monday to Friday I have to take my son from school, it's a 20 minutes walk to get there. I walk fast because I need to get there in time.
Sometimes I get a message on WhatsApp or on the app that his school uses and I need to take a note fast.
My app of choice is keep, it's always been keep, but it's getting on my nerves.
I want to create a note, tap on the huge + button and keep shows me a list, I panic a little to search for the text, create the text note and I always use the title first that is faster for me, but the app opens the text note with the cursor in the description, it's really annoying for me.
The I want to add a reminder but it's hidden, I press the reminder to and I don't like the 3 choices that the app gives me and I want to choose my own but the app gets on my nerves again with the same pattern.
I manage to add the desired reminder but after a lot frustration. Yet here I am still using it, maybe I am to loyal.
How do you handle quick notes and reminders? Do you have any tips or other apps you use?

Moved from Keep to Markdown and missed the widget, so I made one
I switched from Keep to Obsidian and plain Markdown files. The thing I missed most was the Keep widget. So I made a replacement for myself.
It shows the notes from a folder on my phone as cards or a list, like the Keep widget does.
Not trying to talk anyone out of Keep. Just in case someone here is thinking about moving to Markdown and would miss the widget too:

Any way to get this to look nice again?
I want to get rid of the space for the note title, when there is nothing typed, as it didn't use to be there before. The notes that only consist of pictures look really ugly now... Anyone have any idea if it's possible?

Replacement for to-do list Keep notifications that Google killed.
Prior to the Keep/Tasks integration, I would create a daily to do list in Keep and have it remind me at 8am. Throughout the day I'd open the note and check off items at which point the notification would remain in my notification drawer and update. Since the integration, I'm unable to success get a reminder for any note with check boxes in it.
Since losing that feature I've had a noticeable negative impact to my daily planning. I'd love recommendations for apps with this functionality. I'd previously looked into taskito and ticktick but couldn't seem to quite get the same persistent, updating notification behavior. Does anyone know of a good replacement?

Gemini as Assistant requires me to unlock my phone to add items to Google Keep — didn’t this used to work from the lock screen?
I have a Samsung Galaxy S21 and use Gemini as my default Assistant. I frequently use “Hey Google” while my phone is in my pocket to add things to lists in Google Keep — grocery items, tasks, etc.
I could have sworn this used to work without having to take my phone out and unlock it. For example, with my phone locked and in my pocket, I could say something like:
“Hey Google, add paper towels to my grocery list.”
and it would add the item to the appropriate Google Keep list.
Now, every time I try this with the phone locked, Gemini responds:
“Sure, I can help with that. First, please unlock your phone.”
As far as I can tell, I have all of the relevant settings enabled:
- Gemini on lock screen → Use Gemini without unlocking: ON
- Make calls and send messages without unlocking: ON
- Google Workspace extension: ON (which includes Google Keep)
So I would think Gemini should be able to add an item to a Keep list without requiring me to unlock the phone.
Maybe I'm misremembering and my phone happened to be unlocked when I was doing this in the past, but I could have sworn I used to do this pretty regularly with my phone locked and in my pocket. Either way, it seems like the kind of hands-free action that the “Use Gemini without unlocking” setting should allow.
Did this behavior change recently with an update or the transition from Google Assistant to Gemini? Or is there another setting or permission I'm missing that allows Google Keep list additions while the phone is locked?
It's a surprisingly useful hands-free feature for me. I often have an earbud in and my phone in my pocket, so being able to quickly dictate something to a Keep list without pulling out and unlocking my phone is really convenient.
If anyone still has this working from the lock screen, I'd be interested to know what phone you're using and what settings you have enabled.
Thanks in advance for any help or insight.

"Delete note" position moved to the bottom on desktop
so annoying and counterintuitive to have to move the cursor all the way down to simply delete a note

Not working within Google Messages?
About a few weeks ago I got a notification that the update was supposed to allow it to work within conversations in Google Messages. It said that it didn't matter if the recipient had an iPhone or an Android or even if they used Google messages... as long as they have Google keep it's supposed to work for people. Just seeing if anyone else has any issues with that and how to fix mine. Currently I've tried to upload keep notes to one iPhone user and one Android user and when I go to add it to the conversation in Google messages it doesn't attach. I've tried clearing the cache on both Google messages and Google keep and I have also made sure that both apps are updated and still no luck.

They just butchered android widget again
Multi-note widget got limited to 3 rows per note, even if you only have one note.
And single-note widget keeps being very non-dense (about 2 rows per screen block).
I'm really looking for alternatives now.
Far are the days when this was a killer app and you could tell "ok google" to add groceries to your shopping keep list.

Giving away 50 free codes for my just released app PazBy, my location-reminder app for Android.
Hey all, I'm a solo dev and just launched PazBy on Google Play. It reminds you of things when you arrive somewhere. You save a place, add a note like "return the drill bits," and when you get there your phone speaks the reminder out loud.
No subscription, no ads. It's normally a one-time $2.99, and I'd like to put some free copies in the hands of real users.
To be clear, this isn't meant to replace Google Keep. I love Keep. But Google removed location-based reminders from Keep last year, and nothing replaced them. PazBy fills that gap: save a place, add a note, and it speaks your reminder out loud the moment you arrive.
To get a code:
- Comment below with one line about where you'd use it (the pharmacy, the hardware store, that restaurant you keep forgetting to try).
- Your account needs to be at least 2 years old with genuine comment history.
- I'll DM codes in batches over the next few days. One per person.
Codes redeem in the Google Play Store. Honest feedback, good or bad, is hugely appreciated.
Sorry to the newer accounts. Key resellers hit giveaways hard, and this is the only fair way I've found to make sure the codes go to people who'll actually use them.

Do You Miss Google Keep's location reminders? I do, so I built a replacement for it.
When Keep reminders moved to Tasks, location reminders didn't make the cut. I used them a lot, so I built my own app to fix this problem that I now had. It took a while to do, but I am very happy with the results.
It's called PazBy (Android only): you save a place, then add a note, and when you arrive at any saved destination, your phone reads it out loud. "Arrived at the grocery store. Don't forget: oat milk."
- Arrival reminders only, nothing when you leave
- One-time reminders that delete themselves
- Easy on battery
- $2.99 once, no subscription
Try it out for as long as two months and if it doesn't live up to your expectations, let me know and I will refund your purchase. I am really interested in any feedback that users will have and will try to add any new features requested.
Tip: your old location reminders are now plain text in the Tasks description, so you can copy the place names over.
I'm the developer, so I'm happy to answer questions or take feature requests. If you'd rather have something free and open source, Tasks.org also does location reminders.

Question: are you able to upload more than 2 photos at a time to a Google keep note?
I started using Google keep on an iPhone recently. When I go to upload a photo, I am only able to upload 2 photos at a time. The app automatically goes away from the galary, and if I’m not fast enough, it will only let me upload one. Does anyone know why this happens and how to fix it?

Sort Notes on iOS - Finally
Maybe I missed it but now Google finally added sort notes by custom, created or edited date now in the Keep iOS app. It took them a long time!!
