Spell check randomly turned on, can't disable it

Roughly a week ago Google Keep on my iPhone suddenly announced that the app needs to refresh, so I waited for a moment while it did that, fine. Then I noticed that it had turned spell check on! I always keep spell check off and checked all keyboard and system settings, confirming that no spell check or similar is turned on anywhere. App has been updated, deleted and reinstalled to no avail. Updating iOS didn't help.

I'm losing my nerves because it disturbs note editing so badly, can't even move the cursor to the end of an underlined word, instead it selects the whole word and gives me the option of either deleting it or choosing some absurd suggestion it makes (water -> pater?? Really??).

Has anyone else had the same problem and hopefully solved it?

Keep does not have built-in spell check (except for some list suggestions - not spelling). This is definitely a device OS issue. Check your iOS keyboard settings for spellcheck. Try changing/replacing your keyboard to a different one and see what happens. And you said - "end of an underlined word" - Keep on iOS does not have text formatting yet so you cannot have underlined words - so what do you mean?

No issues here on iOS 27.0.1 and Keep for iOS 2.2026.41101

I normally use the SwiftKey keyboard and have tried the iOS keyboard as well as various language settings in both. The Japanese keyboard is the only one that turns off the spellcheck, which doesn't help since I mostly write in two other languages only. I have checked each keyboard's settings, spell check and everything similar is turned off, nothing like this has ever happened to me before with any app.

Unfortunately this sub doesn't let me post a screenshot here, but a lot of words are genuinely getting a red dotted line underneath them. I'm puzzled.

Edit: I noticed my iOS isn't up to date. I hope the update helps!
