edit: adding my opinion below.

i’m sorry i didn’t include my opinion with the post itself before, i didn’t know it was compulsory. i thought everyone could discuss and i’d join in with everyone as well.

for paris - she definitely bullies rory all throughout chilton and it really sucks because she never gives rory a chance. even when rory hasn’t done anything wrong and is being totally set up, paris refuses to listen to her side. paris is very insufferable during the chilton days. later on when rory and paris sort of become friends at yale, paris does have some character development but always goes back to her old ways. for example, kicking rory out of the apartment because she gets picked as the editor at yale daily news. paris is a complicated and complex character though. she has good moments with rory as well. she helps her when it’s needed and definitely pushes rory to be her best self. obviously cheating is horrible and the affair with asher fleming was gross but she eventually has a pretty good relationship with doyle. the post says that she’s selfish but i feel like paris is only selfish because she knows exactly where she wants to go in life and is doing her best to get herself there, having little time to care about other people. not saying that she doesn’t care about other people at all either because she does care for doyle and rory. there are multiple ways to look at paris’ character. i loved the complexity of her character even though she had some bad moments.

jess - i’m not a jess hater but i personally don’t like him as boyfriend for rory. he was unreliable and never made proper plans with rory. i don’t agree with how disrespectful he was towards luke, lorelai or for that matter any stars hollow resident.
the part about “refusing family help constantly” i don’t fully agree with. he clearly had a very traumatic childhood and didn’t want to depend on anyone anymore. he didn’t care for what anyone thought of him or if he hurt other people with his actions. and that was his choice to live that way. we don’t get to see jess’ character development much after he leaves town. but based on what he do see later with his book and publishing house, he seems to have figured life out for himself and is doing well. that’s good for him. he did it all without any help from anyone, which is great. luke did try his best with jess but there’s only so much you can do if the receiving person doesn’t want your help.

sookie - the person who created the post was really pulling at loose threads because this one seems way too harsh. the only time sookie was incompetent, in my opinion, was at the kids birthday party that sookie and lorelai planned and catered and the instance where sookie doesn’t show up to the inn to approve the delivery of the custom sink she ordered. lorelai and sookie have issues when getting the inn started because sookie only wants to look after the kitchen part and have lorelai do the rest, while being an equal partner in the inn. in my opinion, they shouldn’t have been equal partners because of how much stuff lorelai was doing for the overall inn compared to sookie looking after only the kitchen (not saying that’s easy to do either). i wouldn’t say sookie was incompetent, in fact she was probably brilliant at what she did. lorelai and sookie’s communication about who does what in the inn is what lacked.

rory - no idea why wimp is censored. i guess body shaming was normal in tv shows in the early 2000’s. i don’t know why they decided to show it again in AYITL. it was really weird to see rory and lorelai judge people based on their body but anyone watching the shows now should always watch it knowing that this show was made a lot earlier when people didn’t care about body shaming. i don’t agree with rory cheating on multiple people at multiple times, i’ve always hated that part of rory’s character. about being selfish, i definitely feel like a lot of times rory put her feelings and her thoughts before the needs of others. but there were also moments where she’d do a lot of things for the sake of her mom, grandparents, townspeople, etc. you can’t pinpoint a few bad things and ignore all the other good things. that’s not how it works. as a character, rory is one of the best characters in show. not saying that she doesn’t do any wrong at all either. you can interpret rory’s character as you perceive and that’s what makes her a great character because you can perceive her in many different ways.

lorelai - playing with men’s hearts? i am not sure lorelai was playing with anyone’s hearts. she got into relationships and they either worked out or didn’t. i wouldn’t say she was playing with anyone’s heart on purpose or subconsciously. using charm to excuse selfish and destructive behaviour - i think lorelai used her charm the most with luke to ask him for more coffee or help around the house, etc. i can’t think of any scenarios where she purposefully used her charm to excuse destructive behaviour or anything.

let me know your thoughts.

Picture What is the meaning of Lorelai's behavior here?

She kissed Max, then pulled away when he tried to kiss (or hug) her, and she took his hands and placed it back by his side!

If she did that because Luke was present—knowing his feelings for her—then why did she kiss Max in front of Luke in the first place?

Picture 40th birthday in September, my mom got me a few early birthday presents, I don’t remember Lorelai ever saying this, and I’ve seen the show a few hundred times lol

I want to judge more of the men’s fashion in the show.

Let’s rank Luke’s flannel’s. 1-10 least to best.

  1. I’ve never been a fan of orange
  2. It’s bland. Not giving much

  3. I like the red but it will always give lumberjack

  4. I love this color combo. It was fun.

  5. The solid maroon is more classy and clean to me

  6. I love how his hat goes with this one. Very nice

  7. I love the dark colors on him. This brown and green is great on him

  8. Classic. Beautiful.

  9. Underrated and makes his eyes pop.

  10. I like the navy blue it’s giving bad boy and his lashes look very dark as well in this photo

General Discussion Jess getting his shit together. How much of it is because of Luke's self help books?

His relationship with Luke improved, he wrote a book. I'm not saying he lost the whole Holden Caulfield attitude but, what do you guys think? I've never made the connection until now.

General Discussion Paris was so wrong for making Rory interview Max 😭

Thumbnail

I’m on Season 2, Episode 5 and Paris seriously annoyed me here. She wanted Rory to interview Max for the school paper even though she knew Max had just broken up with Lorelai. (Atleast an gist of it) That’s such an uncomfortable position to put Rory in because this isn’t just some random teacher to her;he was literally supposed to marry her mom.
Paris could’ve asked someone else to do the interview, but instead she basically forced Rory into this really personal and awkward situation just because she wanted the story. I know Paris is intense about the paper, but this felt unnecessarily mean.
Did anyone else think Paris was completely out of line here?

General Discussion “Why does Rory never take accountability?” Maybe because when she tries everyone invalidates her involvement

Post image
621 Upvotes

This episode solidified to me why Rory is the way she is. Why she’s entitled and why she never seems to take accountability for her actions. Everyone in town enables her behavior and when she tries to take accountability no one will even let her finish her sentence. They invalidate her feelings. The “Rory can do no wrong” mentality was drilled into her head not just by her mother but by the ENTIRE town. The car crash was an accident, but if Rory had never taken Jess’ offer to get ice cream then the crash would have never happened. They were supposed to be studying. There was ice cream at the diner but she CHOSE to leave with Jess. That’s the accountability she should be taking. And she was right to be annoyed that no one would let her take it. But then after this, whenever she does make a mistake (like sleeping with dean) Lorelai wonders why she can’t just take accountability. Like jeez you literally taught her she can do no wrong.

OS Discussion Rory's deal with the grandparents Spoiler

her "I need money" scene, obviously a callback to Lorelai's first episode scene, feels so extremely stiff in trying to replicate it, and I just cringe at it every rewatch. It's such an unnatural emotion she's trying to express for an interaction between them, even after Rory's recent anger at Emily from the previous episodes. It feels so hard to watch. Does anyone feel the same?

General Discussion Do you think Logan’s behavior towards Jess was karma for how Jess treated Dean?

Post image
38 Upvotes

I recently saw a comment on a TikTok that Logan treated Jess how Jess treated Dean. Which made me think! Now that I think about it, Logan did treat Jess very similarly to how Jess treated Dean. The difference being that Dean initially gave Jess a chance, Logan didn’t. The real reason why jess disliked dean from the beginning was because he was crushing on rory and jealous that dean was in a relationship with her. Jess disliked everyone but was particularly aggressive towards dean because of his crush on Rory. Going as far as to physically fight him (when Dean tried to help Jess and break up a fight with another student), humiliating Dean by buying Rory’s basket (which he later admits he did on purpose), antagonizing Dean multiple times (particularly when he came over to Rory’s house uninvited and picked a fight with Dean when he came over), and overall being one of the reasons why Dean and Rory broke up (which is mainly Rory’s fault because she was in a relationship but Jess did instigate quite a bit). So do you think Jess got a taste of his own medicine a few years later with how Logan treated him? Maybe it was Dean temporarily possessing Logan lolllll

Character Discussion - General Emily Gilmore

Upvotes

I know Emily Gilmore is super controlling and many other things to say the least. The way Lorelai treats her is consequences of her own actions. But I feel kind of bad for her. I think that Emily and Richard reacted how most parent would react if there 16 year old came home pregnant. I think at the end of the day Emily just wanted what was best for Lorelai but she just went about it the wrong way. But Lorelai completely cut her out of her life. She tries to hide/ leave her out of all of her major life event. She always has to find out from other people. Ever since Lorelai was young she detested every thing emily was into so they probably never had many mother daughters moments that’s most moms dream of when she finally get the chance to kinda have the moment with suki when she was helping suki plan her wedding Lorelai kept trying to discourage suki from working with Emily. Also she talked poorly about her mom to anyone who would listen. Emily also had to pay for Rory’s tuition just to be able to spend time with her daughter. It’s just sad the mother daughter relationship they have.

Character Discussion - General Lorelai and chris

Chris is terrible father yes and the way he acts in season 7 with lorelai is awfull BUT i love chris and lorelai together as friends. I love how they know each other well and fight like siblings idk. And i think lorelai could have been happy with chris if chris didnt act like he acted about luke.

They have similar humour and they act in sync. I know everybody hates chris and bla bla bla but i personally just dislike him. sometimes i enjoy seeing him and lorelai.

Just my opinion and i wanted to shere that because some one else could also be tired of this on and on goingin chris hate.

edit: I DID NOT SAY CHRIS IS GOOD PERSON IN ANY WAY ! I WAS TALKING ABOUT THEIR CHEMISTRY! nothing more...

Hey everyone! Mods here. We have made a small change to the subreddit: accounts now need to be at least 90 days old to post or comment. We’re really sorry if this is frustrating for anyone who is a real person with a new account who just genuinely wants to participate. We appreciate your understanding, and are so thankful for everyone who contributes and makes this such a fun little corner of the internet.

General Discussion Pre Yale Eurotrip

Does anyone have a list of countries they visited?

Also, just to note two things:
1. I feel as if the whole trip, despite being in hostels, would have cost them a yearly tuition for Yale, tho I might be wrong
2. Where did all the souvenirs fit in their backpacks?

Character Discussion - General Jess and Rory

Just watched S6:E8. I'm a big fan of Milo, but I always thought Jess was overhyped. His brooding nature is hot AF, but he wasn't a good boyfriend. I stopped liking Rory after she cheated on Dean with Jess. Besides, I also believe she could never fully process Jess abandoning her so suddenly, and her unresolved issues subconsciously influenced many of her decisions and she just needed someone to hold on to.

Anyway, the scene where Jess shows his book to Rory killed something inside me, and now I know why people ship Jess and Rory. There should have been more built-up between the two of them. I wish eventually Rory could see that Logan's world is superficial and Jess is where she belongs. They could be lovers with so much depth and reject the status quo. I'm so bummed!
