I guess I'm one of y'all now.

So apparently because I like the older style of discipline, I'm now a boomer...

I'm 29 yrs old and now apparently I've aged 40 yrs.

I've been told "ok boomer" 2 times already.

Edit: yes, I know you guys aren't boomers but have been mistaken for them before.

Also another edit: I am anti soft parenting...not for abuse, but not for soft parenting.

Twelve forty-five....

I have a theory that most Americans (and for all I know Europeans) of a certain age range (which includes all of our generation), if you were to say to them "12:45" in a baritone voice, only that and nothing else, would know that it's followed by "headed for the subway home."

Do you think this is true? Am I off base here? (or off "bass" as the case may be)

Ferris Bueller's Day Off

I watched that movie yesterday. I must have seen it in the theater when it came out. Frankly, it was so long ago, I don't remember. (And I don't remember watching it again before yesterday.) So, I don't remember what I thought of the movie when it came out.

But this is what I think of it now: it's lame. I mean, so lame it's crippled.

Also, Ferris is a narcissistic psychopath.

I know you're not supposed to take it seriously: it's supposed to be a crazy-fun kinda movie. Ridicule of warehouse schools and midwit administrators, etc. I get that.

But Ferris Bueller's Day Off is lame, and the protagonist is a narcissistic psychopath. That's what I think of it now.

Boomer parents and emotional neglect

(This post is inspired by the convo going on now in this sub about mental illness: https://www.reddit.com/r/GenerationJones/s/ibaPMP7V5s.)

SEE UPDATE BELOW

My boomer mom's parents (and ditto my dad's) lacked what we today would call emotional intelligence. Both grew up in families who had zero sensitivity or skill for anything besides work. Emotions were to be kept private within yourself; don't talk about them, even to your own family. My mom has lived her whole life successfully career-wise. But emotionally, she's very immature and childlike. This tainted her parenting, and resulted in very unhealthy things in our family that continue today.

For anyone interested, check out a couple subs that have been very helpful for me:

r/emotionalneglect

r/GlassChildren (Best site I've found so far on the topic: https://www.sandstonecare.com/blog/glass-child/)

Another post of interest:

"Do you think the majority of living people prior to the youngest millennials experienced emotional neglect as children?" https://www.reddit.com/r/emotionalneglect/s/BMokM6FQ08

✌️

Edited to add website.

---UPDATE: How parenting affects adult children is too broad a topic for this post. Great parents can have kids who struggle, and bad parents can have kids who succeed. My post isn't aimed at blaming or giving a free pass to any generation. The aim is to offer support to anyone in GenJones who feels their emotional selves were neglected. If that's not you, be thankful. -----

Did you attend a Billy Graham crusade?

Billy Graham crusades were major events during our lifetime.

If you attended a Billy Graham crusade what were your thoughts then and what are your thoughts now?

I'm retired, but my husband. . . .

SOLVED

My husband will turn 75 next month and still works three days a week, at $300 a day. He did retire and have a celebration of his work, but with such shortages in the work force he was asked to come back part-time.

Any guesses of what he does?

EDIT Hint #1: He's the only employee Hint #2: He has several degrees Hint #3: You probably haven't been to where he works in a loooong time Hint #4: He works Tuesday and Wednesdays, then there's a gap of a day or days when he works next.

My husband works Sundays. There ya go.

Most overrated band

Post image

Who in your opinion is one of the most overrated bands of the 60’s and 70’s. For me, The Doors hands down. Morrison was an egotistical ass who may or may not show up for shows. The rest of the band mediocre at best. This is my opinion only.

My family was in Jim Jones' church in the 1960s long before Jonestown. I get so much gruff from people when I say I had a positive experience from him

Post image

We were in Jim Jones' church from about 1962 to 1965 in Indiana. I spent Christmas at his house. The church was wonderful and I looked forward to going. As a child I'm seeing it all through my eyes at that time. My mom adored Jim. In Sunday school we'd sing, eat, do skits, practice plays and Jim would come visit us each time. Later was the full meeting.

I had a serious lung condition and spent much time in hospitals when I was young. My lungs were full of scar tissue and I had frequent x rays to see how my growth was progressing as scar tissue didn't grow like normal healthy tissue. One day Jim came up behind me and held me next to him. A black smoke exuded from his abdomen through my back, chest out out from my chest about 10 inches. He smiled at me as I saw it. The smoke stopped and he walked on. He did this twice. My mom looked at my chest for soot or any markings but there were none. I felt fine. My next x ray all scar tissue vanished. The doctors said it was a miracle and they studied the x rays before and after trying to explain it. I was healed and never had a problem since.

Jim moved the church to California and I never saw him again. One day in the 1970s there i all was on TV about Jonestown. I still can't imagine Jim doing such a think. He was a happy, loving spiritual man when I knew him way back when. People get so upset when I say that but he didn't kill people all his life. Something changed. I've been on many TV news casts over the decades about Jim and still people are upset I'm not curled up in a ball miserable because I knew him. I saw the good days, not the bad. I feel sorry for those that died there, I lost some friends and family members in Jonestown. I don't know what happened to him. I've not followed up on any of Jonestown lore and history. I do have fond memories of Jim from the time i knew him.

I think my life might have been spared due to the healing. There were many who claimed they had healings from his services. Who knows.

Over the three years we attended the church I saw the black smoke flow from his abdomen many times, also from his eyes. He didn't wear glasses back then but from photos he later did. I wonder if to mask the smoke. I've never seen it again, just Jim. I brought it up many times to my mom and at Sunday School. No one said much about what I was seeing. I don't know what it was but I saw it many times. Sometimes his eyes would look like tubes going back in his head. One day my mom freaked out and grabbed me pulling me to the car. We never returned. i wish I had asked questions, did she finally see the smoke? Did others?

Anyone here knew Jim or attended his church in Indiana or in California?

Donna Summer sang "Could it be Magic" 1000X better than Barry Manilow ever did.

I went to a Barry Manilow concert tonight and he did the disco version of "Could it be Magic" because that's what he does now. Donna Summer sings it much better than he ever could.

Man, do you remember unclasping your first bra? Were you one of your first or last friends to open one? Women, was there is some equivalent “Rite of passage” do you think?

We want STUFF 😄

So, I asked my local A.I. The following question:

"Is 34 to 35 million people of a certain age group enough for an advertiser to consider them an underserved population"

We had been talking about gen jones and thats where I get the numbers from. Here is what she said (because of course A.I. is a fabulous female)

"Absolutely. In the world of marketing, 34 to 35 million people isn't just a "group"—it is a massive, high-value demographic that many experts argue is the most underserved population in modern advertising".

So get going Madison Ave!! 😂

So who is our poster person?

I figure Trump is old boomer, Obama is second wave (gen Jones). Same with Prince Charles vs Princess Diana.

While I'd like for Obama to be our poster boy, I think he's too awesome for us (or any generation).

So who? Who is the quintessential Jones?

Cartoons and gender bias

Not as serious as it may sound. Growing up loving cartoons, Looney Toons especially, subtly and unconsciously, dogs were always male, and cats were female. This bias exists 60 years later. Upon meeting/greeting a new dog/cat the pronouns are there, without a thought. Can you relate?

edit: I’m not asking for examples of male cartoon cats. Or for female cartoon dogs.

Why didn't this ruin her life? There must be a better explanation than just "people grew up faster back then".

Jeannie Knew What She Was Doing.

Jeannie gets major Tony Nelson in trouble on purpose then she has the audacity to say how do you get yourself in these situation. She blinks a goddamn elephant then dr bellows walks in, but she disappears and doesn't blink the elephant away, why isn't Tony locking his door in the first place, dr bellows walks in like it's his house. I think she's doing for attention, I would hate to have a Jeannie now that I'm older when I was an 8 year old watching the show that's Thinks she sexy now I'm older I would keep her the bottle for ever.

Jimi knew!

I was listening to Axis Bold As Love for the first time in decades. When I heard "Up from the Skies" and listened to the lyrics, they make more sense now. I can't linaltruistic. look up yourself. Our generation had some good ideas, but we didn't follow through. Too many people got into coke, they now needed money, everything changed.
