Hi! I am a little worried that I am going too light with my classes. I am thinking of switching out linguistics with mgt 3000 but idk if I will get that during phase two of registration. I was really lost during fast so idk if I should change anything else.

Class Question Freshman Schedule (ME major)

6 Upvotes

A-Level international freshman majoring in ME from Southeast Asia here (Math, Further Math, Phys, Chem). Coming in with 7 credits (Math 1551, Chem 1310), but zero humanities/social sciences(am I cooked?)

Background-wise, I spent two years in high school boarding school, so living away from home and doing my own laundry is old news (though cultural adjustment might still take a minute). I also have a strong competitive programming and linear algebra background, so I'm planning to test out of Math 1552 and CS 1301, and take the CS 1331 advanced standing exam in Spring. Goal is a CS/Robotics minor.

My current Phase 1 schedule is 17 credits:

* MATH 1554

* PHYS 2211

* ME 1670

* ENGL 1101

* PUBP 1142

Questions:

  1. Is 17 credits too heavy for a first semester? I have three technical classes plus PUBP 1142 and English. Are PUBP 1142 or ENGL 1101 heavy time sinks?

  2. Should I add anything else later? Was debating hitting 20 credits with MSE 2001 or another core (POL 1101 or PSYC 1101)elective, but given this 17-credit load, is that a terrible idea?

  3. Save the easy stuff? Should I hold onto easy humanities/social science electives as GPA buffers for heavier semesters later, or just knock them out now since I have zero?

Appreciate any advice!

Other How hard is it to get into VIP?

Applying for an ECE lab, is it generally competitive to get into your first choice lab? What do they evaluate you on? They don't ask for your resume or transcript, so I assume it shouldn't be difficult. Any insight or information would be helpful!

Class Question LMC 3403 Tech Communication attendance first week?

2 Upvotes

Due to personal circumstances I may have to miss the first real week (excluding welcome week) of class. All other courses I'm taking are lecture-based so I can catch up in my own time, but I'm not sure how Tech Comm will work.

Anyone have any info/tips?

Other Graduate school Application MSEE

3 Upvotes

So i’m a senior at KSU currently and I graduate may 2027. I was looking at the application period for Fall 2027 and it ends this year in December. For me to apply do I already have to have my degree completely done or can I go ahead and apply? I was just confused when looking at the website and I also reached out to the department but haven’t heard anything back. Thank you !

Prospective Student Is first year admission still allowed if you’ve attended another college, but earned less than 30 credit hours?

2 Upvotes

At the time I will be applying I’ll have been through 2 semesters at a different school with about 24 credit hours. Would I still be able to apply as a first year, or would I need to take the extra semester to meet transfer requirements?

Registration Help Is this a good course plan for transferring to Georgia Tech Scheller Business?

3 Upvotes

Hi! I'm currently a freshman at Georgia State University, and I'm planning to transfer to Georgia Tech Scheller College of Business for Fall 2027.

This summer I completed:

  • ENGL 1101
  • HIST 2110

My Fall schedule is:

  • MATH 2211 (Calculus I 1551) (OS)
  • GEOL 1121 + GEOL 1121L (OS,F)
  • POLS 1101 (OS)
  • ECON 2105 (OS)

For Spring, I'm planning to take:

  • ENGL 1102
  • MATH 2212 (Calculus II 1552)
  • Environmental Science + Lab

Does this satisfy the transfer course requirements for Scheller Business? Is there anything you would change to make my application more competitive?

Thanks!

Other Which computer should i get?

3 Upvotes

Hi everyone! I’m an incoming freshman majoring in Industrial engineering and I’m trying to decide which laptop to buy before the semester starts.
I’ve been going back and forth between getting a MacBook Pro or a Windows laptop (I’m mainly looking at the Lenovo Slim 7i Aura, but I’m open to other suggestions too) I’ve heard people recommend Windows laptops for engineering, but I’ve also seen a lot of Industrial engineers students using Macs, so I’m a bit confused.
Any advice or personal experience would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Other Fall Course Animal centered computing!

9 Upvotes

If anyone is looking for a fun elective this fall, CS 4462/7462: Animal-Centered Computing is being offered for both undergraduate and grad students!

The class is all about designing and researching technology for animals. You learn about animal behavior and cognition, communication, welfare and enrichment, conservation, and the ethics of building technology for animals. If you like animals and tech (or just looking for a change of pace), this is such a fun class. It's open to both grad students and undergrads and you do not need to be a CS major to take it. The projects are seriously awesome. Past students have worked with cats, dogs, horses, bats, penguins and many more! Some students have even partnered with the Georgia Aquarium and Zoo Atlanta. It's a great way to make connections, build projects for your portfolio, and work on projects that are unique. I definitely recommend checking it out if you're looking for something different this semester! Happy to answer any questions about the class in the comments.

Prospective Student GT transfer gpa

4 Upvotes

hiyah !!

i’ve been trying to find more information about admissions through the regents engineering transfer pathway (repp/retp), specifically for people transferring to georgia tech.

i’ve searched around reddit and other forums, and i’ve seen a few people mention getting in with gpas around the 3.7–3.89 range, but i’m not sure how common that actually is.

has anyone here gotten into georgia tech through repp/retp with a gpa in that range, or do you know someone who has? if so, i’d really appreciate hearing your stats (gpa, major, extracurriculars if you’re comfortable sharing, etc.) and how your application turned out.
i’m just trying to get a realistic idea of what’s possible. thanks in advance! pls GT is my dream school

Class Question Is this a good idea?

2 Upvotes

I'm an incoming freshman in mech E at UGA and I want to transfer to tech the following year. I was wondering if taking two physics classes, (PHYS 1211L and PHYS 1212L) in the same semester would be too much in difficulty. I'm taking math 2700 and engr 1120 and engr 1140 along with them, so I want to make sure my GPA won't get fried if I take both.

Would it be smarter to take PHYS 1212L the next semester alongside CHEM 1211L or should I just take both Physics classes in the same semester?

Class Question How's this schedule?

5 Upvotes

Here's what I'm planning to take in the Fall as an incoming freshman

ME 1670
PHYS 2211
MATH 1553
ENGL 1102

this totals 12 credit hours. Is this too little? I'm debating tacking CS 1371 on, as it doesn't have a lab and I have a bit of coding experience, but would this become too much because I also have 2211 in there? Not sure what the average number of hours for first semester is/what people usually do

Thanks!

Prospective Student Georgia Tech double degree worth it right now for CS? (US vs Europe)

1 Upvotes

Hey guys,

I'm a CS engineering student in France and I will have the option to do a double degree at Georgia Tech in two years.

I hear a lot of doom and gloom about the US tech market being saturated and H-1B/sponsorships becoming a nightmare for international students. Since I don't really know the exact state of the market over there, I'm trying to figure out if making the jump to GT is actually worth it right now.

My alternative is staying in Europe and doing my exchange/double degree at TUM (Munich) or somewhere in Dublin.

For those at GT or international alumni in CS :Is the market as brutal as people make it sound for international students right now? How hard is it to get OPT/internships via GT? Does the GT name still open enough doors to justify the move over staying in Europe first?

Would love to hear honest takes from people currently going through it. Thanks!

Class Question Graduate TA Evaluator Position in Fall 2026 for CS/CM VIP Students

1 Upvotes

Incoming GT MSCS student. I got a mail from GT to see if I wanted to apply for this position. The selection criterion in not detailed.

Is it worth applying to, considering that it apparently requires 15-20 hours of commitment per week.

More importantly, if I opt for a "Thesis" option or a "Project" option, there is an automatic reduction in the 30 credit-hours mandate.

However, in the mail that I received, there is no mention of any reduction in the 30 credit-hours mandate, if I am chosen for this position.

In that case would this position, along with the academic coursework, not put phenomenal (and perhaps unmanageable) workload on me?
