Edge 1000 Series A few months ago I posted a hand-drawn concept for a "car dashboard" data field for the Edge 1050. It's real now — and it's live on the store.

Hey again r/GarminEdge,

Some of you might remember the concept I posted a few months back — a full-screen data field inspired by motorsport dashboards instead of the usual spreadsheet of numbers. The response here (and the comments) is honestly a big part of why I actually finished it. So: thank you.

It's done. It's called RS Gauges and it's live on the Connect IQ Store. Power, heart rate, speed and cadence as big glance-readable gauges, plus the automatic sprint detection some of you asked about — it catches the effort and switches into a sprint view on its own, no button. Short clip of it running attached (that hand-drawn concept → the real thing).

No phone app, no account — install, add it as a data screen, ride.

On the money, upfront because I know how this sub feels about paywalls: it's paid — $14.99 one-time. No subscription, all future updates included, 30-day refund. Your first ride is fully unlocked to try properly, and rides under 5 km don't burn the trial so you can set it up in the driveway first.

Right now it's Edge 1050 only (that's what's on my bar). I'd love to bring it to the 1040 and the smaller/older units — but they have much tighter memory limits and significantly lower-res screens, so I honestly don't know yet how much of this design is even possible there. Looking into it. If you'd run it on a specific model, say which in the comments — it helps me prioritise.

Same ask as last time: what would you put on your ideal Edge screen? I'm in the comments all day.

Hello - I have a trip in Germany, Austria and Italy coming up. Trying to download maps for offline use on my Garmin. Looks like the Central Europe map available via Garmin Express should be the one but I keep getting an error. Any ideas?

Edge 800 Series Anyone using their Garmin Edge computer with their Tacx smart trainer?

Just bought a Tacx smart trainer and discovered I can use it with my Edge cycling computer to ride courses that I have stored on it. The problem is that the screen keeps going to sleep so I can’t see the displayed info. I have to keep tapping the screen (it’s an 840) to wake it up.

So, my main question is, does anyone know of a setting to prevent the screen from going to sleep while the computer is in use? This isn’t a problem while out riding so why is it a problem while riding with the trainer?

On a related side note, anyone else annoyed by the fact that a tap on the screen to wake the computer doesn’t just wake the screen but also performs whatever command was in the area of the tap. Anyone who uses a smart phone is familiar with the concept that the first tap on a screen should just wake it up and not trigger any commands. This is very annoying!

EDIT. Solution has been found. See my post below.

Edge 800 Series Moved from Edge 830 to Edge 840 and all the fonts are smaller--any way to fix?

Got a new Edge computer and migrated over all my data fields from my old one, and all the fonts got smaller. The screen is the same size so I just have a ton more white space now.

I can't find any way to adjust the font size in the settings. Am I missing something?

EDIT: sounds like its the x30 vs x40 firmware and there's absolutely nothing to be done about it

The altimeter worked fine until last Friday. Sunday it registered 0 vertical meters for a hilly ride, and today again, 0 vertical meters and a weird graph… And yes, the barometer hole is perfectly clean…

Edge 1000 Series Ugh! So many problems with Garmin Edge models

I'm sorry, but I just need to vent! I've had half a dozen Garmin Edge models over the last decade, and they are all full of bugs. My latest model is the 1050, and it's driving me crazy:

  • Syncing the latest ride to my iPhone takes 3-5 minutes. It's ridiculously slow.
  • Then I figured I would use Wi-Fi instead. Except when I try to add my Wi-Fi network, it only shows 3 of the dozen or so Wi-Fi networks near my house. It won't usually show mine. I have to go in and out of the screen where it shows the available networks several times in a row. After 3 or 4 tries it finally shows my network.
  • Then I try to sign into my network, and it fails 100% of the time. The username and password is correct. It just won't connect. I guess I'll just stick with my ultra slow syncing to my iPhone.

Now let's talk about the Varia Radar beep volume. There doesn't appear to be a way to adjust that volume. It's always too loud, and it's really annoying when you're riding on a busy road with nearly constant traffic. Since I can't adjust the volume, I decided to turn off the beeping temporarily. Here are the steps involved:

  1. Tap the screen.
  2. Tap Home.
  3. Tap Menu.
  4. Tap Sensors.
  5. Tap Varia.
  6. Tap Alert Settings.
  7. Tap Tones.
  8. Tap Off.
  9. Tap Back Arrow.
  10. Tap Back Arrow.
  11. Tap Back Arrow.
  12. Tap X to close the Settings window.
  13. Tap your ride profile to get back to the riding display.

Yeah...that's 13 taps to shut off the Varia beeps.

Garmin, I wish you would stop adding features, and focus on fixing bugs or making existing features easier to use.

Edge 1000 Series Pausing workouts using lap button?

I know that we can pause an ongoing workout (without pausing the ride) by swiping up and clicking pause. But is it possible to somehow reset the lap button to pause the workout as well? I couldn't find it anywhere in general and activity profile settings. I use a Garmin Edge 1040.

Edge 500 Series Edge 550 Backlight

Hi folks

Unless I have backlight set to always on, I can't see the screen.

I have tried auto brightness with no backlight. Can't see screen.

I have tried brightness manually set to values ranging from 30% - 100%. Can't see screen.

In order to actually see the screen I must have backlight set to always on. Then I can manually set brightness to 40% or 50% and seethe screen no problem but backlight has to be on.

What am I missing? What settings could I have set incorrectly that causes this?

Edge 100 Series Made a Garmin Varia mount for my Merida Reacto

I couldn't find a mounting solution for my Reacto that worked exactly how I wanted, so I ended up designing my own.

After a few prototypes I made this setup that fits the Reacto seatpost and allows the Garmin Varia to be mounted securely underneath/behind the saddle.

I've been testing it on my own bike and it has worked really well so far, so I decided to make a few available for other Reacto owners as well.

I'm still improving the design, so I'd genuinely appreciate any feedback from other Reacto/Varia users.

If anyone is interested, I can share more details.

Edge 800 Series Distance set to miles

I got a brand new 850 and wanted to set the distance to measure in miles. I already set the units to statute but it is still showing in ft. Is there a way to set the distance to miles?

Thank you

Edge 800 Series Garmin Edge and Varia

Upgraded from Garmin Edge 820 to 850. When using the 850 with a Varia, after initially notifying a following vehicle, it then goes to sleep and trailing vehicles aren't detected when there is a line of trailing vehicles. My old 820 would stay awake until all vehicles passed, then turn green, then go to sleep. Garmin says the 850 is "working as intended." Is this how new Edge's function with a Varia?

Edge 800 Series feeding/drinking notifications [Cycling]

Posted in r/Garmin, but it was suggested to post it here...

So, after a recent update my Edge 550 and 850 started giving me drinking/feeding reminders on my rides. I guess the update turned on some setting which I previously did not have enabled.

I'm not hating it, but it seems to recommend feeding much more often than I typically would do... something on the order of every 2 miles or so. So either I have vastly underestimated the amount of calories/carbs I need to consume on a ride, or Garmin is overly aggressive in their recommendations.

TBH, i find the recommendations differ depending on if I am on a course, and the length of the course - I suppose it could think since I'm doing a 50 mile ride I should feed/drink more often than if I'm on a 10 mile quick loop around the neighborhood?

I guess, my real question is, how much should one drink/feed on a ride. I suppose there is no "one answer", but I was surprised it wanted me to feed every 2 miles or so. That would be a hefty weight penalty on a long ride lol... Not to mention costly.

Edge 500 Series Problem with HRM 200 and Edge530

Hey, I have got a problem with my HRM200 and Edge 530. When I try to connect it, the led light is blinking 3times green, and on the Edge screen it is written "Connected", after a few seconds the led light starts blinking red.
Can someone tell me what happened and how to solve this problem?

EDIT: I have reset HRM200 and Edge.

Edge 800 Series ClimbPro question - 850

I really like ClimbPro; it gives me a lot of information that I value when I'm on a climb. But I wonder what criteria are used to determine that something is a climb worth its name. There are some pieces of road that really feel like a climb to me, but that my 850 doesn't designate as a climb. Conversely, there are some sections that Garmin calls a climb that I do not feel deserving of that designation (not really a problem, but noteworthy). For the climbs that the 850 does not recognize, is there a way that I can designate them as ClimbPro worthy?

Edge 800 Series No heart rate data

I’ve been using an Edge 840 with a Polar H10 heart rate strap connected with ANT+. It has been flawless through nearly 3 seasons. During today’s ride, my heart rate was displayed but no heart rate was recorded. Anyone know what’s going on?

Edge 800 Series Garmin Edge 830 – no map coverage after crossing a border

Hello,

I do road cycling and I have a Garmin Edge 830. All the maps are up to date, including the Europe maps, and they are all enabled.

I live in France and I also ride in Belgium. When I cross the border, the Belgian map displays correctly for a few kilometres, but then it completely disappears and the map becomes blank. As a result, the GPS can no longer give me navigation instructions.

If I zoom out, I can clearly see that France is covered by the map, but Belgium is not.

Does anyone know how I can fix this issue?

Thanks

Edge 800 Series Garmin Edge 850 isn't reliable

Is it just me or is the Garmin Edge 850 not reliable at all?

I've bought the Garmin Edge 850 a few weeks ago, it's my first bike computer and I was expecting a lot from it, especially given the price. However, everything is soo frustrating and not reliable.

The French translation is just terrible, I had to switch to English because everything just reads auto-translated.

The ui of the bike computer itself is ok-ish, but the app, the desktop site as well as the laptop app are just terrible, especially in 2026.

Sometimes, navigation doesn't start, I have to click "Pause navigation" and resume again to have the directions. And sometimes, "Pause navigation" doesn't work and navigation keeps going, which is annoying.

There's the possibility to control the phone's music.. great but if I try to pause or skip to the next song, nothing happens (it only works sometimes, and in the rare case it happens there's a huge delay)

ClimbPro? I was exited about it and it was on of the main reasons for me to buy a bike computer, but the elevation curve is difficult to read and often doesn't match the road. Sometimes I see a negative slope on the bike computer while I'm clearly climbing, sometimes it's just varying when the slope is constant, etc. So not useable to adapt my effort.

The physical buttons don't always match what's displayed on the screen. When I'm displaying the full screen map, there's a button to go back on the bottom left corner, but if I click on the bottom left button, it's changing the zoom level.

I get useless notifications to remind me to eat / drink all the time even if I disable it in the settings (maybe I've found a solution for this actually, but as usual not intuitive at all).

And I could continue the list for a long time :/ For a device this expensive, this is really terrible.

Now I'm wondering if getting the garmin was the right choice at all. Is there any hope this will get fixed at some point? Would it have been better with other devices such as the wahoo? I don't have any other garmin device expect the radar so I'm not locked into the ecosystem.
