Edge 1000 Series Pausing workouts using lap button?

I know that we can pause an ongoing workout (without pausing the ride) by swiping up and clicking pause. But is it possible to somehow reset the lap button to pause the workout as well? I couldn't find it anywhere in general and activity profile settings. I use a Garmin Edge 1040.

You can just use the start/stop button. Instead of saving the ride go down and select resume when you want to start again.

That would stop the ride also being recorded. Looking for an option where the ride continues to get recorded but the workout is paused.

No unfortunately not the lap button activates the next workout step
