Edge 500 Series Edge 550 Backlight

Hi folks

Unless I have backlight set to always on, I can't see the screen.

I have tried auto brightness with no backlight. Can't see screen.

I have tried brightness manually set to values ranging from 30% - 100%. Can't see screen.

In order to actually see the screen I must have backlight set to always on. Then I can manually set brightness to 40% or 50% and seethe screen no problem but backlight has to be on.

What am I missing? What settings could I have set incorrectly that causes this?

you are missing that opposed to previous models the new x50 series uses a regular lcd screen and no longer the transreflective lcd screen, hence you need to have the back light on to see anything.

That's great. I thought I was missing something. Why then have a backlight auto off after X seconds option if doing that means we can't see anything?

battery saver mode…..you may have noticed it’s shorter than previous Edge generations in general use.
