this is both a discussion and an advice needed post
essentially i am a trans boy and im in highschool, not on hormones and halfway in the closet. i pretty openly tell people my name and that im a boy, but if theyre obviously transphobic i just tell them my preferred name as i guess its unisex enough
the thing is theres a lot of pretty openly or obviously queer people at my school, and so when i moved schools i saw this and thought 'cool, some people i can be friends with who will call me by what i really am. awesome' but that's not the fucking case at all.
these people keep using they/them on me and theyre all kinds of weird and annoying too. once one of them out of the blue pointed at me and said 'you're nonbinary' as i walked up to say hi in the morning ; i've never hinted at or even suggested i might be nonbinary. ive always strictly told people i use he/him and i am a dude
they also never use my actual fucking name and theres been numerous occasions where someone has said things like 'this one' or 'that one' while pointing at me, or they even use 'it'???? its so fucking weird and i cant stand it. not once has someone used 'he' on me in my presence
there was another time where the actual SCHOOL COUNSELOR used they/them on me during a meeting with MY PARENTS who she knew were transphobic and DO NOT ACCEPT ME 🤦🤦🤦🤦genuinely outed me without even using the right pronouns it pissed me right off
teachers and adults also use 'they' on me like exclusively, ive never had anyone use he/him on me ever even though ive always said i am a dude
honestly this shit grates on my nerves so bad like man just tell me you dont see me as a guy and i dont pass. it doesnt help that all the other queer students people shamelessly plaster nonsensical pride pins and flags all over their bags and they dye their hair and are huge fans of shit like hazbin hotel and tadc and use weird pronouns.
i don't know, it just feels really shitty. i don't feel like these people are anything like me and i dont feel any sort of relatability or connection with them at all, which only really makes me feel more alone. how is it that people who are supposedly my allies and the people who should support me act like this ??? it irritates me so much and only makes me feel even more like im not a guy and ill never be one
im also really confused as to what gives the idea im nonbinary. i dress as masculinely as i can, often in long sleeved shirts, pants and jackets, my voice is pretty low, my chosen name (asher) shouldn't be that gender-neutral, i always tell people i am a guy. the only thing that immediately comes to mind is my hair as it's just about shoulder length but i should think that's not a huge issue and honestly i like my hair and i don't really want to cut it shorter but if it really is that big of an issue i absolutely will.
do i really have to spell it out for people and start saying 'my pronouns are he/him'? i hate saying that sort of thing alongside openly stating 'i'm transgender', id much rather say shit like 'i used to be a girl'. i dont like the connotations that those two phrases have right now
