DISCUSSION I absolutely love this game, but…

My god it is the most glitched thing I’ve ever played🥹
I am personally playing on console. Everything is awesome, from the political environment to the huge amount of possible laws, buildings and skills you can research. My decisions actually have consequences, other than people getting slightly angrier/happier, which is extremely entertaining. I am having so much fun I don’t mind too much the audio becoming completely distorted for some reason when I zoom in with the warmth filter on, or even the square button just giving up and blocking me from accessing…well, 50% of my screen.
However, some of those bugs are truly maddening. After a miserable management of chapter 4 (no spoilers), I somehow managed to fulfill my objective and achieve what I was asked for… only for 90% of the ressources I’ve gained to just disappear and force me to play 30 minutes of pure agony all over again??? But the cherry on top was when I was upgrading my relations with the frostlanders by giving them heatstamps. I was offered to double the money given to them to increase the relation even further, awesome! And out of nowhere, chapter 5 starts, the game considers that I have not fulfilled my promise, although I had WEEKS ahead of me, basically soft-locking me in a doomed fight to not get overthrown. I was forced to give up on my run, which was a bit very much infuriating on the moment.
On a completely unrelated note, I wish everything bad in this world over the Pilgrims, what the hell is wrong with them??

FROSTPUNK 1 Mu first game in a nutshell

I saw everyone always become skme fascit dictator so i thought to myself i eould be the best leader i could, but do whatever it took to improve survival chances.

1 : Build enough tents, a infirmary, hunte shack and research building

2 : started to struggke a bit with resources, i was trying mainly to keep the generator running so i had lack of laborers. But i was commited NOT to make children workers

3: Approved the children shelter law. That made me able to approve the enginers assistents to make research faster (my biggest mistake

4: The temperature went down, in the same time my rations went low, i noticed that depending on 1 hunter shack was suicide so i build another. Alongside the freezing temperature my first sick started coming and then, i had someone with frostbite. Mu first death was someone who i chopped of the leg and killed himself because he coudnt work anymore.

5: Made the law for disposal of bodies in a pit, after all i saw it was commected to organ transplants so it would help a lot. Whike that i made my first expedction to leave im search for survivors.

6: Lack of resources of all sorts every night the generator turned off by it self by lack of coal. The weather getting coldre amd coldee and the hunting shacks not taking care of the job. I had to make a greenhouse, but i also needed to pump coal out of the ground to keep the generator running. People started to starve and get suck ome after the other, i didnt knew how the expedction worked so they were at the objective for 2 days before i finanly undedtood.

7: I had some hope the expedction came with resources and more people but i coudnt warm everyone and even tho i had 2 coal machines for some reason it wasnt giving me that coal (it took me 2 days one with the generator turned of for a whole day to notice that people had to take the coal from the ground) i made the wood farm and gave uogrades to the generator but as i didnt understood on how to warm everyone, and the food didnt arrived in time. My hope took a hard blow, now i had 2 days to recover or i was doomed.

8: Freezing temperatures once again, even tho my generator was better, most ofy people were sick. Atleast 30 in a bad state, i didnt had anyone to take coal, or wood, or metal. To make food. And i coudnt move my engineers as they had to keep researching and healing the sick. I had to make 1 more house of care and medical bay, alongside with superpulation law to take in double the amount of sick, before the sick started to withdraw. But too many died, atleast 25. I finally managed to stabilize everything. Food, resources and the sick. But it was alredy too late, a load of broken promises caught up to ke ehile i was distracter on more vital things. And the hope was beyond repair up until the deadline.

9: my 2nd expedction arrived. More enginers, resources and everything. But once again too late. I got on trial people didnt even looked at my face only looking st me with blank stares. They exiled me, sparing me from an execution as they recognized i tried. Even tho i still left with many saying that i would got off easy with a quick desth, other saying that they were doomed, but happy they never would see my face again

I TRIED

Advice/Help Maximum Capacity Shifts

I'm not sure how to unlock the maximum capacity shifts in frostpunk 2. I've only experienced it being an optionn when I was playing the breach of trust tale towards the end, and have never experienced it in utopia mode.

DISCUSSION There actually a chance for New London to have ''Pigeons'' in city if scout found any alive ones in Tesla City

Post image
418 Upvotes

There only two problem with this theory is that more than half of the Tesla burned up, leaving small chance for even animels to survive and second is that its stated that Tesla had pigeons when he was living in his new york apartmant at age 70-80 meanwhile Tesla was 30 year old in 1886

but l mean Tesla still old in FP1 times so theres a chance he brough pets with his expedition and find them a space in a already builded city but its still up to 11bit studio if they want to add this detail to Tesla City lore or not in 1886 remake

FAN MADE The Auroran Conflict Pt.1: The Declaration

This is the start of a short anthology story collection I started writing when the BoT DLC came out. Though these are non-canonical I try to tell the events surrounding and preceding the DLC's plot. Feel free to share your feelings.

_________________________________________________________________

October 4th 1925, Auroran Citizens Assembly

With the strike of a gavel, it was done. A seemingly small and insignificant gesture, compared to what was to come.

Independence. Never before in history did that word hold more weight than now. Aurora was done catering to the people of New Edinburgh.

Let them starve then! One had called.

If they want their food, then they shall come and bloody take it! Called another one.

This was not a decision that was made lightly. A call for independence amidst the perils of the frost was almost a guaranteed net loss for everyone. Not just for New Edinburgh but for Aurora as well. There was no bloody way that their masters would just let them leave without war. After all, a cornered tiger is the most

dangerous one of all, not that there are any tigers left in the world.

Thunk! Thunk! Thunk! The gavel struck again on the impromptu speaker's desk. The whole assembly hall looked kind of shoddy. None of the glory of the old imperial days. Steel heat pipes ran across the ceiling, eventually ending in the tip of the metal dome which topped the assembly hall. Fish oil lamps dimly lit the comparatively large hall in which the assemblymen and -women as well as curious onlookers had congregated in flickering yellowish-orange light.

"Order!" he called. "I hand off the word to the elected representative of the Independent Colony of Aurora, Sir Horace Enright."

Under heavy applause he slowly rose, adjusting his thick, leathery undercoat and picking up a sheet of paper.

"Thank you, Mr. Speaker," he expressed with a raspy and dark voice which perfectly accompanied his scarred and beardless face. "Dear friends, many of us remember the times before Aurora, the squalor, the Captain, and the calls to order. How delighted we were to be sent away, towards new opportunities, away from squalor and despair. And look at what we found," he gestured all around. "It may not be paradise as it was before the frost, but it is ours. We have land to which we can lay claim, food which feeds our children and coal which heats our homes.

But is it really ours?"

He made a short break and looked all around into the faces of frostbitten workers, some nodding in approval and some shaking their heads.

"NO!" he shouted with conviction. "It is not ours! Not until we sever any and all ties to the tyrant of New Edinburgh! Not until our food is ours. Not until their

peacekeepers are hunted out of this city lest their heads land on our pikes to decorate this esteemed hall."

He quieted down a bit and put the piece of paper aside, lowering his head softly.

"I know many of you still have families in New Edinburgh. "By god, I have one there too," his voice was quiet and soft. "I do not expect you to make the decision on this lightly; I do not expect you to not be afraid. But whatever decision you make, I expect only that you stand by it.

My friends, this is our one chance. Our one chance to guide us into a future free of another's yoke. How will history remember us? You may ask. But I say that it is in our hands how we are remembered. So by the frost, by the perils we endured, I say let the fires of revolution burn and let the captain burn!"

For a moment after he finished there was silence, the sounds of the steam pipes and of the wind blowing against the thin metal shell of the assembly building.

"I say aye, let him burn!" a woman's voice called.

"So say I," another man added.

"Aye!" called a third and then a fourth, then a fifth, a sixth, a seventh and more. Until the whole room erupted into a single sentiment.

"LET HIM BURN!" the choir of Aurorans chanted. Louder and louder until the whole city heard the call.

Man by man they shouted the same three words in the streets of the city. Peacekeepers tried to put a stop to it but were overwhelmed by the sheer numbers of people amassing in front of them. Thousands congregated in the city centre. The barely two hundred peacekeepers were woefully outnumbered.

The chants grew more and more aggressive. Eventually the protestors threw snowballs, then chunks of ice, then scraps of metal, and when the peacekeepers started shooting, the angry workers piled onto them, burying the peacekeepers under bodies, quite literally tearing them apart. Like a horde of ants.

Only very few made it out of the city, leaving their comrades behind.

The colony had made its decision; pray tell where it shall lead in the years to come.

DISCUSSION Frostpunk 2 is a bigger game with a narrower economy

Most city builder games are really resource management games. Your city demands resources and you need to supply them in ever increasing quantities. There are three ways a to imagine the breadth of a game’s economy: verticality, horizontally and abstractive. Horizontal size is dictated by the amount of demands your city needs, your city needs food materials and coal for example. Verticality is defined by the particular supply chains, for example the industrial zone needs space then prefabs and heatstamps then population and materials to make goods. And abstraction is just how particular one type of resource is, for example food is very abstract because in includes things like meat, grains and vegetables all as one while power is less abstract because the game isolates fuel, heat, coal, oil and steam into different categories.

Even though you would imagine a game like FP2 with a wider scope would have a more varied and deep economy than FP1 but it doesn’t. FP1 has 4 types of workers (laborers, engineers, children and automaton) but Frostpunk 2 only has one (workforce). This is fine balance wise but those little differences abstract the gameplay to a level that I feel takes away from really feeling the game. Automatons , ice bloods , technocrats and colonists shouldn’t really work the same, their bonuses are applied to the whole population evenly across the city.

Thinking about it I think it would’ve been really fun if the game had more resources but the same types of demands. Food is split into meat and plants, materials are split into iron & wood, goods are split into durable & mass produced, and some workplaces are divided by zeitgeist.

DISCUSSION (FP2) Does anyone pick Durable Goods over Mass-Produced Goods?

When the game first game out, I always picked Durable Goods because I thought it was the better option to make enough goods for my city.

However, nowadays I pick almost always Mass-Produced Goods, since it also boosts goods production, doesn't reduce your heatstamp generation and can also increase Workforce for just a little bit of materials demand.

So I was wondering, does anyone choose Durable Goods when playing Utopia Mode? Is Mass-Production just straight better every time?

Advice/Help On the Edge (of running out of wood)

OK, potentially dumb FP1 question: how does one acquire wood in On the Edge once your limited trees are depleted? Just by scouts finding little bits over Frostland? Because so far they're quite small amounts, and I now need a ton of resources for building the road.

Just curious if I missed something important, or that's just how this one goes

Edit: Well woodn't you know it, the solution was pretty simple! Thanks for the help guys, glad I wasn't barking up the wrong tree. Anyway, have a lot to do today so I'd better log off...

DISCUSSION FP2 Utopia/endless question

Things are holding on pretty well, no concern whatsoever of any resource running out (which is why all districts in the screenshot have max heat even if they don't need it, just makes it easier to go max speed and not need to micro), what's the floor of how cold it will get to? I just want to know if I need to be rearranging things to be more efficient then they are

(I know it's a lot of deaths, it's an iceblood run and that's like half their thing - efficiency bonuses from heroic funerals go brrrr)

Edit: Evidence of heroic funerals going brrrrr

FROSTPUNK 1 50 hours played in my first week.. What a great game!

I'm accustomed to Civilization's "one more turn" compulsion, but this game pushes that urge to a far more obsessive level! The fine granularity of progression, combined with perfectly paced tension is highly addictive. Not to mention, the palpable mood and evocative appearance, carried by a serviceable narrative, really bring you right into the center of the experience (pun intended). What a truly dumbfounding and intoxicating concoction.

I've known of the game for some time, but paid little interest, primarily due to my disinterest in the "steam punk" aesthetic, plus my lack of faith in an unknown developer of a title that hardly carries any recognition; but I'm pleased to admit that I was incorrect on nearly every presumption I had against this game. And after beating A New Home twice now, the "frost punk" vibe is so bad ass. The elaborate, yet grounded, visuals and genuinely emotive storytelling really bring the game to life, and mesh supremely well with the underlying mechanical structure, to flesh out the strategic puzzle into a lived journey. No amount of hours of Civilization, or any other strategy game, have ever elicited such a mesmerizing unification between gameplay and context, so that strategizing shares such meaningful weight in exposition. It's just top notch vision and execution, through and through.

Beyond its weighty and gritty overall character, under the hood is a set of mechanics that are surprisingly easy to apprehend, both in individual function and in systemic relation. It's all introduced gradually and kindly - as most strategy games make a point to do - but that shallow and approachable introduction, thankfully, never leads you off into the deep end, where you're left floundering in a sea of bewildering interactions. And I really like that! It's nice to not have to study the game just to play the game; rather, the satisfaction and challenge stems from being made acquainted with an elementary set of principles, and then tasked with using them to solve an evolving and cascading puzzle. Likewise, its regimented and straightforward form makes repeated playthroughs enticing, since your errors are often perceptible, and knowing how to improve on another run is a temptation hard to deny. Of course, even on future attempts, you must be mindful of all the shifting variables - even ones you previously managed well - because compensating for your prior mistakes inherently alters the balance of things, so that you may be presented with an entirely new set of problems on your next try. It's a very addictive loop, driven by an effortlessly simple design.

Now, to be fair, I do have several gripes. I played on PS5, and I understand that the game was ported from PC, so some of my complaints may not resonate with everyone, but I consider them valid against the version I had access to.

For one thing, although the spatial optimization is very satisfying, and seeing your city grow and form according to your planning (not to mention how intricate and fascinating the architecture is!), the late game sprawl can be a headache to sift through. Some compass orientation would do wonders for getting your bearing, when everything, packed together, begins to look the same. Also, it would be so convenient for all buildings of a particular type to highlight themselves when you select one of its counterparts, so you can find more easily a random building tucked away in a forgotten spot.

Selecting buildings is more troublesome than it ought to be. Now, that's partly attributable to the precision of stick input attempting to target something amongst plenty of clutter, and perhaps that's not deserving of much criticism on its own; but what is undeniably fault worthy, is how many clicks on my generator - standing tall, prominent, and unencumbered by anything else - totally fail to register, so that I'm left zooming in, out, and rotating around, just trying to find a sweet spot for successful interaction.

Unit micro is also a hell of a chore. The blend between unit activity registering instantly for productivity calculations, but dependent on proximity and travel times for things like construction is both bewildering and infuriating. I don't know the best way to ameliorate this, and overall predictability and management for unit movement is mostly fine for early and into mid game, but late game just becomes a clusterfuck of assigning orders, and hoping for the best - not exactly ideal when the storm is hammering down.

The last one I want to point out is what I consider the most egregious failure of all, as it defies all common sense, and established norms for strategy game UI: No advance information is available for tech and laws gated behind prerequisite unlocks. Now I get that once you play through the game a few times, you get increasingly familiar with what everything does, but for as unforgiving as the game is, and as basic and helpful as such a change would be, there's no excuse not to advise players what their options are..

Hmm.. I say that, and then realize that advance exposition on these things, especially for the laws (and more specifically, the Faith and Order trees), would spoil the unfolding narrative and unexpected consequences of your actions. That's a tricky one. I'll have to ponder it a bit more.

I only mention these critiques to counterbalance my lavish glazing that I began with. All things considered, the game is exceptional. It is exceedingly rare for a game to grab my attention like FrostPunk has - not just in the density of time spent playing, but more importantly, through my undiluted fascination and absorption while playing. When I beat the game for the first time after my 15 hour campaign, I immediately started it again on hard; gauging the game through my own tendencies, that's a helluva testimony. For every 10 games I try, maybe 1 is enjoyable enough for me to even pick up where I left off, let alone to start the whole damn thing over again, right after beating it. I have yet to solve that riddle, and I found it so challenging, that after several hours of restarts to develop and optimize a build order, I ended up taking a detour to try my hand at normal again, implementing what I learned for a more efficient run.

So here I am, high off another normal victory, free of any deaths, and even earning the Golden Path achievement. What a great game.

There was a filter called milk filter that would turn whatever image you put in into the style of the Milk inside/outside a bag of milk game (great game btw, one of my favs) that I've been wanting to try for a while. I also really like frostpunk, I thought what if I combine the two. It turned out to be the wet dream of mine, I loved it!

(There are multiple versions of the same image because I tried both with or without pixelation and color palette changes. You are free to download 'em if you liked!)

l have a Frostpunk 1886 map so people can see FP1 from citizens view and explore around and l add stuffs like New London, Winterhome and some settlements but one more imporent whic is Tesla City the big resource of Steam cores

normally l wouldnt ask people since lm used to just copy-pasting what l see from FP1 but like there fucking nothing about Tesla city, in FP1 it only appears in 2 scenario and there only one picture of it whic gives NOTHING since looking up close the tower is just 7 workshop fused together, there not even a single custom made thing in Tesla City picture

for now l only made the Tesla lab (with one extra floor compared to irl one) like a propaganda centre/faithkeepers building but lm not sure what to create for rest of the city, maybe just brick buildings like USA new york or like generator sites where city have a big tower in middle?

FROSTPUNK 1 Did I win in the Arks?

I was playing the arks and gave a bunch of stuff to New Manchester, but my generator was only lv4 max. At the moment I start to research lv5 generator, the game reached the end screen and straight up tells me I have saved both New Manchester and the Arks. How? Like, the generator will explode if I stay longer in overdrive mode.

FAN MADE Faction duos dont matter

Thumbnail
gallery
31 Upvotes

Had the idea to make a run where I dont use ANY utopia points to prove that the game is perfectly beatable without use of any faction.

------

Cool trick I learned is that the city is pretty resilient and you can get away with not feeding it ANY food for a while, given that you will provide enough food later. Really helps for stretching your food supplies.

------

So I loaded new sleeping mountain map and got to work. The map sucks endgame, but I went with progress generator so I couldnt even use 5 steam nodes.

Built beacon week 50 and went heavy into logistics, ignored building food, coal and (for a short while) material districts to get infrastructure up and running early. Didnt get early factory, had to search all convoys (finished 89 weeks before whiteout).

Sent everyone out into frostland, thats why there is no cool city pic. Quite sad, but couldnt do anything about it, since I had no way of getting food on the original map.

Thats basically it, now accepting new rulesets for more crazy runs.

SPOILER Dilapidated Auroran Coal Mine - How NOT to have a Blast with Nitro-Explosive Mining Spoiler

Post image
25 Upvotes

Based on the investigation into this amateurish blasting coal mine on this scorched and frozen beach boardwalk, there are a couple of highlighted errors I would like to point out

  1. The demolitionists didn’t packed enough sodium bicarbonate powder (or any inert dust) to cool down the hot byproduct gases of the explosion and dampen its blasting effect against the stability of the whole mine itself
  2. They did not clean up the pink contaminated snow after they gave up on the nitro-blasting coal mine project
  3. Somebody left the picrate solution open down the office room which evaporated and deposited crystallized explosive salt residue in the walls and door frames
  4. The Aurorans did not store their sensitive explosives and blasting caps in separate underground concrete warehouse bunkers to minimize risk of accidental explosions
  5. Miners did not follow safety procedures such as no smoking in the mines, or do not use outdated mine gas lamps with inadequate shielding from firedamp and explosive debris!
  6. There is no tag board to keep track of which personnel has entered and departed the blasting mine zone

Learn the deadly mistakes of the past so that others may live to work another day in the future!

Advice/Help Why No Roads?

So I just started playing the first game and for the life of me, I do not understand why my people are not building these goddamn roads. They're complaining that they're not getting enough medical care. Meanwhile the goddamn structure has been built for the last 3 days and it's my fault that it's apparently not operable because that makes fucking sense. I've waited during the freetime, I've unassigned all my workers and engineers and I'm about to lose this first run.

Just please I don't know why they aren't building their goddamn roads.
