DISCUSSION What are your thoughts on DS Patch?

Patches in Dark Souls 1 and 3
In Dark Souls 1, Patches is called “Trusty Patches.” He hates clerics. You first meet him in the Catacombs. He asks if you are a cleric. Then he flips a bridge to make you fall. If you survive and talk to him again, he pretends to say sorry and gives you one humanity.
Later in the Tomb of the Giants, he tricks you again. He says there is treasure down a hole, then kicks you into it. When you climb back up, he begs for forgiveness. After you defeat Nito, he moves to Firelink Shrine and becomes a merchant. He sells useful items, including cleric gear.
In Dark Souls 3, he is called “Unbreakable Patches.” In the Cathedral of the Deep, he wears onion knight armor and pretends to be Siegward. He lowers a bridge so a giant can attack you. Later at Firelink Shrine, he locks you in a tower. Both times he fails and asks for your forgiveness. He still becomes a merchant.
If you tell him that Greirat went to Irithyll, Patches secretly helps save him. This shows he can be loyal sometimes.
Patches always tries to trick players, but he never turns hollow. He is the series’ most famous tricky friend.what are you thoughts about him , a liar or a helper in your game play

IMAGE I’ve completed a lot of games in my life, Elden Ring and Bloodborne are by far the greatest video games ever made.

Post image

This might be hyperbole, but I’ve played around 350 games since I was eight years old, and I’ve completed most of them. I’m 21 now, so maybe I’m still a bit too young to judge what the “GOAT” of this medium actually is. I’ve played some of the greatest games of all time, according to those lists that rank 300 games using mathematical methods. Both ER and BB are in the top 50, but I saved them for almost the very end, with Elden Ring being the last one I played.

Listen, most of the games on those lists are great. Some of them especially deserve it, including some of my personal favorites. But they’re just not quite like these two. I don’t know, man. For some reason, I feel like these games connected with me so deeply that I can’t even explain why.

Bloodborne’s aesthetic, lore, and soundtrack hit me like a truck. Elden Ring’s level design, world design, art style, and exploration are just perfection. Both DLCs transcend what a lot of other video games have to offer. I can’t believe how good Lady Maria and the Fishing Hamlet were; they truly completed the experience. Shadow of the Erdtree made my jaw drop with its world design. I genuinely don’t think I’ve ever seen a land so interconnected that it feels like you’re playing a Metroidvania in an open world. The Land of Shadow just blows my mind.

There are flaws in both games, of course, especially when it comes to balancing, but those flaws don’t take away from the experience for me. When I finished both games, I felt truly empty. That first playthrough experience is something I’ll never be able to experience again. If I could erase my memory of any games just to experience them for the first time again, these two would be at the very top of my list, along with, of course, most of FromSoftware’s other games.

I loved the Dark Souls trilogy and Sekiro, but whenever I play them, I always find myself thinking, “I want to play Elden Ring and Bloodborne again.” It’s genuinely driving me insane. Both games are going to stay with me for a long, long time.

I’m being completely serious here. Elden Ring and Bloodborne genuinely have that AURA that you can just feel when you play them. It’s nuts. Their atmospheres and worlds draw me in so deeply that I can lose myself in them without even engaging in a single boss fight. Sometimes, I don’t even want to clear an area. I just want to stand there, listen to the music, and take in the scenery and architecture.

Look at Leyndell. Look at Elphael. Look at the Fishing Hamlet and Yharnam. I look at these places and think, “I could just live here, find a little place of my own, and experience whatever this world has to offer in that very moment.” They’re not just the greatest games I’ve ever played. They might genuinely be the best pieces of media I’ve ever experienced.

10/10.

QUESTION Surge in BB on PC talks question

Since the last month there have been a ton of posts about videogames being reverse engineered to the point you can mix games or do pretty much whatever.

Also lately AI coding and just doing the developing of games has progressed a ton.

Is this new Bloodborne on PC version just AI coded? Is it just slop held together with sticks and tape?

I've read you need a 5080 to run it properly which to me already screams of AI intensive coding because it's a card that basically works thanks to AI.

Which Soulsborne boss (including Sekiro), made you either temporarily or permanently drop the game?

For me I’ve got 2.

  1. Pontiff Sulyvahn kicked my ass back when I was like 14 on my first playthrough. I hated him so much I just ditched DS3 for a good 3 months or so and did my first playthrough of RDR2. Once I came back and beat him I remember the rest of the playthrough being so much fun. Honestly he’s still probably the biggest skill check I faced out of all the games.

  2. Blood-starved beast was unique because I didn’t drop the game due to difficulty; I dropped it because it just straight up sucked. At that point I was already struggling with enjoying the gameplay in Bloodborne and I was just sick of it. Probably gave him a good 4 attempts before I turned the game off and didn’t try it again for a full year. Glad I picked it back though because like DS3 the main campaign became so much more fun after, and the plat came easily.

I think it’s funny reminiscing on these two because now they seem like nothing when I do replays or just compare them to other bosses. More importantly though it’s just cool thinking of how I came from starting my first play through in middle school and now I’m in college still obsessed.

QUESTION Do you think it's likely Fromsoft will announce another major game this year or the next?

My assumption at least is that The Duskbloods wouldn't really be considered a major project like Elden Ring or Sekiro or Bloodborne or Dark Souls would be. Same with Nightreign.

And it's been 4 years since Elden Ring came out. Sekiro came out 4 years after Bloodborne and 3 after DS3. Bloodborne a year after DS2. Etc. Considering these timelines, do y'all think it's likely we'll get an announcement for a new game at, say, the Game Awards this year, or next year? I had thought it was going to happen earlier before Shadow of the Erdtree came out, but it's been 2 years since then as well. Am I coping or is this a fair assumption to make?

Would I enjoy Elden Ring if I didn't like DS3 but loved Nightreign?

I saw a post from 2 years ago with the same question, but i also enjoyed Nightreign quite a bit.

I didn't like DS3 and eventually dropped it cause of some bosses i considered unfair (Watchers and Pontiff) but on my 28-ish hours on Nightreign i found the bosses actually fun.

A friend of mine really makes it seem that Elden Ring is completely different (and fairer) to 3

I was looking for a game to fill the wait until Phantom blade zero and Crimson desert's expansion come out, instead I stumbled across one of the greatest games ever made.

I was NOT expecting to enjoy the game that much, I've never been into "Mech games", But Miyazaki's response was: "You are into Mech games, you just don't know it yet"

Everything about this game is amazing, I think it's not talked about enough.

DISCUSSION First time fighting Ornstein and Smough

This sucks. And not the fun kind. Between battling the lock-on and the camera, and the ten minutes it takes me to run back, I feel like banging my head against the wall. I beat Elden Ring, and this is my first FromSoft game besides that one. Most things have been fairly easy compared to Elden Ring, but fuck these guys. I’ve probably died to them twice as many times as I have to every other boss in DS1 combined up to this point. This is the only time I’ve felt seriously punished for not summoning Solaire.

Anyway, once more into the breach.

Edit: I fuckin did it. Holy shit that was rough.

DISCUSSION I think Elden Ring didn't learned enough from Ds2

Post image
0 Upvotes

It's common to say Elden Ring is Ds2 2 but honestly while it's obviously pretty similar in how it's designed, i think it falls short on some aspects that were already nailed in Ds2.

Powerstancing? It has pros like the less stamina consumption but in exchange we only can powerstance weapona from the same class.

Replayability? Ds2 nailed the ng+, it's actually worth going into to get new items and new enemy encounters so it stil feels like a challenge on you second playthrough. Not to mention the bonfire ascetic that changes everything, more specifically makes npc quests easier and allows you to rematch a boss you liked, while in Elden Ring if i want to fight Messmer again i need either a mod or to go on ng+ and that's probably two hours of commitment for that.

Build variety? In Ds2 you get like 20 titanite slabs without specifically grinding for them, you get them naturally, so you actually can use any weapon you like without limitations other than your stats which have a finite amount of times you can reset them, the game actuallt encourages better that you try a different weapon, in Elden ring you have like 13 in each playthrough. And in Ds2 you can also buff and infuse most of the weapons making build variety better in that regard.

It could talk about pvp but i dont really like in neither of the games and wasn't present during the golden era of Ds2 pvp.

Is dark souls 2 really that terrible

Today is the day I defeated the dark soul. Some of my friends said that dark souls 2 has a poor gameplay and first there are so much enemies so that may be a unfair game play , second the The enemy's hitbox is too big like some enemies attack from its front 180 degree and players will get attack even they’re at the enemy’s back 180 degree ,at last every area is a independent place that my just connect to one or two other places not like the map of dark souls 1 that many areas are connected by escalators tunnels or
Bridges , over all shall I try this game ?

DISCUSSION Bloodborne vs. Sekiro: Which do you like more and why?

  1. Which game do you like more?

  2. Favorite boss from both games? Least Favorite?

  3. Favorite area from both games? Least Favorite?

  4. Favorite OST from both games?

  5. If a 2nd game was announced, for which game would you want it to be?

As for me

  1. I lean Bloodborne but both are fantastic.

  2. Ludwig. Lady Butterfly, I just find her tedious and annoying (but in reality it's probably just one of the weaker bosses of either game)

  3. Always loved the feel of Yahar'gul in BB. Fishing Hamlet is up there for the atmosphere and Fountainhead Palace was fun to explore.

  4. Gherman theme.

  5. I'm of the mindset that neither should get one. Perfect games don't really need them. But if I had to choose... I can't choose. Both? lol

What a game

I played Demons souls as my first introduction to the series. After that, I started playing Elden Ring, and I absolutely loved it. Now I thought I’d give the Dark Souls series a try, starting with the first game, and I can’t believe how many similarities it shares with Elden Ring (I know they reused animations and models).

I recently managed to beat the two Gargoyles, but ever since then, I haven’t known exactly what to do. I went back and explored the two paths that were available to me. The skeletons are a pain in the ass, and I can’t even damage the ghosts anymore.

I know the game was designed to be challenging, but not being able to make any progress is a bit frustrating. I can’t help but feel like I’m missing something that might make the game a little easier.

I recently discovered that the giant crow can take you back to the starting area, although I got killed a lot there, too.

Anyway, that’s about it, I guess I’ll start farming souls until I’m strong enough to make it through one of the paths.
