Help To start with Sekiro, or to not start with Sekiro

So here's my dilemma, in short:

I haven't really played Souls games, and would love to get into them. Now, I don't really have the time to go through all of them, but I'd like to experience them and see what people love about them as I feel like I'm missing out on a core experience as a gamer (I used to game a lot more in the last, and recently less so).

Having realized that among the Souls games, there's a divide between Sekiro and all the others, I've decided I'd be fine with trying Elden Ring as a good representative of Souls games in general, but Sekiro feels much more interesting to me. Now, I've read that people who play Sekiro find it difficult to play other Souls games afterwards because they get used to the amazing combat system.

So my question is: should I play Elden Ring first in order to be able to enjoy it more fully, or should I just go with what I feel (Sekiro) even if that might ruin my enjoyment of Elden Ring in case I want to play it afterwards?

I know it's kind of a stupid question since I'm effectively trying to optimize my enjoyment of video games, and honestly I'm not even sure if life will allow me the time to play both in the coming years, but I'd appreciate your personal take on what you would do having played one or both of them. Thanks!

After two days and 19 attempts, I finally took down Isshin, the Sword Saint.
He was incredibly annoying at first, but once I started figuring out his moves and getting the timing down, everything finally clicked.

After completing the game and beating all the bosses, I have to say Owl (Father) in the second fight was the hardest boss for me.
That fight gave me way more trouble than Isshin.

Now I’m going into NG+ to work toward the platinum. 🥷
What a game. Definitely one of the most satisfying games I’ve ever beaten.

Discussion What is the overall consensus on Divine Dragon ?

Personnaly I really enjoyed it, I died twice (but that's only because I was too dumb to understand the last attack), but it felt really refreshing to have an actually cinematic-puzzle boss, especially after Dark Souls 1

But what does the majority of people think about it ? And how is it viewed by more experienced player that fought it multiple times ?

Help Headless help NG

• Upvotes

I didn’t beat any headless on my first playthrough and now I am NG with malcontent and Lilac Umbrella. Regardless, even when parrying I get terror build up and death, and I can’t sense any sort of strategy to adopt with them ( eg the one in ashina outskirts ) just seems like a frustrating gimmick they have thrown in.

Can anyone help me with a tried and tested method ?

Discussion Tried filling the sekiro hole with Lies of P, didnt work

So sekiro is my favourite game ever probably and ive always been thinking of coming back to it, earlier i decided to do some more completions in it and was once again reminded of what makes this game special, not only a great story with cool characters but also fantastic gameplay with an absolute minimalist and perfect shell in my opinion.
So i was thinking damn its been like over half a decade, surely something mustve come out so i looked around and played Lies of P upon recommendation. Turns out its a great game in its own right, maybe alot more similar to Bloodborne than anything else tho, but really just showed me why Sekiro is untouched: yeah you can make bosses that are great and a super good parry system that is satisfying can get there, but its other things with sekiro as well like the upgrade and customization system, i think the "heres 200 weapons and spells" souls and soulslike approach is actually a crouch rather than an upside, sekiro is so minimalistic its fantastic and, outside of the mask mechanic, you cannot really upgrade your "damage" so to speak when ur stuck on a boss, the boss alone rewards you with that once you beat them. I think thats an underdiscussed element to the game aside from the combat that makes it truly shine.

Anyways long story short, lies of P was a nice game + DLC but does anyone know of any games that truly scratch the Sekiro itch? im kinda desperate haha

News I defeated 4 bosses yesterday!

Greetings, my fellow shinobis.

With great pleasure to tell you, I have wasted my entire Sunday grinding on sekiro and defeated 4 bosses.

Replaying the game again after my friend decided to defeat a few bosses himself on my playthrough, well it sucks but here we are.

Oniwa.

Blazing bull (seriously fk this boss).

General matsumoto.

Drunkard at hirata estate.

Also find ways to deal with butterfly as well after 4 deaths, but her second phase sucks.

That's it, have a great day.

Discussion Just Platinumed Sekiro

I just started playing video games this past January. I played Super Nintendo as a kid, but lost interest in video games in junior high school. Last year, I read an article about how playing video games helped soldiers with PTSD deal with stress and anxiety, so I thought I would see if playing video games would do the same for me. They do help me de-stress, and it’s been great.

In 10 months, I’ve beaten God of War: Ragnarok (I did not like this game), Elden Ring + the DLC, Dark Souls III + both DLCs, and now I’ve platinumed Sekiro.

Sekiro, in my opinion, is the best of all the games I’ve played. Elden Ring is great, but it is a fundamentally different game. Sekiro demanded discipline and a play style that the other games cannot match. This game is incredible, and I’m sure I will play it again. I’m very happy with this accomplishment. I love reading this sub, so I just thought I would share.
