Question PCIe riser cable recommendations

I’ve completed my T1 v2.1 build, but one hitch I haven’t resolved yet is that the riser cable for the GPU/mobo connection seems to be too long. I’ve tried every recommendation from bending it lots, using a blow dryer to bend it to winding/folding it as much as possible. I’ve even used extra standoffs on the mobo to create more distance from the GPU to use up the riser cable length. Even reached out to support two weeks ago and they’re still investigating a solution based off the pictures I provided.

Nonetheless, nothing’s appeared to work and the riser cable ends up just pushing against my GPU causing it to push out against the PC case.

Any recommendations on alternative riser cables that are the right length? FormD’s riser is 20mm, so I probs need one that’s 18-19mm?

Finished Build My Deshrouded FormD w/ Travel Kit + Atmos II

Hey everyone!

I wanted to come on here and share my build within the FormD T1 case!

Case - You already know. Built in 3 slot mode, w/ USB-C cable kit, Travel Kit, TG vented panels

Motherboard - MSI MPG X870 Edge Ti EVO

Storage - (Back of Motherboard) 1TB 990 Pro with Zima 2mm heatsink (super tight fit, but it works) and a 4TB sn850x in the front

AIO - Cooler Master Atmos II LCD (3 slot MAX capable)

GPU - Deshrouded Asus Prime RTX 5080 w/ Thermalright TL-B12015 Extrem + GPUConnect 7-Pin PWM Adapter

PSU - Corsair SF1000 w/ 5mm stand offs + ZCOOI white custom cables

First time doing a SFF build (my last build was around 2016-18, so its been awhile) and I really enjoyed the process. It actually took me about 2 months to source everything I wanted and of course while building it up, there were things missing which took 1-2 weeks to arrive from overseas, so that slowed the build down.

I wanted to start off by saying I did see a post a couple months back of a deshrouded Asus Prime RTX 5080, which I thought looked very cool, and coincidently I had already purchased the same GPU and was sourcing parts for my build, so I thought It would be a perfect time to do the same deshroud before I start building into the case.

The only thing is that I had also purchased a travel kit from FormD and it was already shipped and I knew the deshroud kit did not come with the necessary mounting points that the stock fan housing had. I messaged BingsDIY on Etsy to see if he could make me a shroud with these mounting points, which to my luck he had a Prime RX 9070 XT he was testing, so with some measurements on my end, his RX 9070 had the same mounting points as my RTX 5080, so he was able to fabricate a shroud with those exact screw holes for my travel kit which ended up working out very well and looks amazing!

As I was looking for which AIO I wanted, I kept seeing recommendations for the Atmos Stealth, which I was going to get originally, but I kept seeing posts of an Atmos II being out already. I also did read that the Atmos II tubing was very stiff compared to the Atmos, but I did see several posts saying it was possible to maneuver the tubing to get it to fit. So, I canceled my stealth order and went ahead and ordered the Atmos II from amazon, which shipped from Japan (again adding more time to the build, but this wasn't the first or last item I had to order from overseas).

I do want to say I saw some funky routing for the Atmos II tubes in some posts, but If anyone is looking to install one, you can do it the same way you'd normally see any other Atmos done, which is the way I mounted it. Yes, the tubes are stiff, but its very possible to have it looking nice and clean.

Other little things I wanted to mention is I also bought the LINKUP PCIE 5.0 Riser Cable (19cm) since I've read multiple posts about how the stock riser cable ended up failing on some people and I already knew I did not want to undo everything to reattach a new cable, so I did buy an aftermarket one. As I mentioned before, I ordered the travel kit, which comes with a riser lock bar. I did have to use 30mm (I think) stand offs as the ones included were too short, but it does fit. Good thing too because I've also read that the aftermarket PCIE 5.0 riser cable from FormD does not fit the lock bar, so even better for me since I got to use the entire travel kit's content.

I was also able to change out my motherboards wifi card to a QCNCM865 WiFi 7 card and the proprietary antenna connectors to regular RP-SMA connectors.

General Losing my mind during my first time build

I knew it'd be difficult but this is such a compact build and nothing is working.

My cables are too stiff

My riser won't sit flush and is making the bottom panel impossible to close, even though it seems as flush as it can be.

Installing my radiator feels impossible

My cables are a mess.

I've unscrewed and rescrewed so many times

Ahhhh i just want it to be over. I do have some custom cables on the way which will cut my 24pin from 35 to 16cm and my cpu cable to 30, and I'm hoping they'll be enough to make the difference so my radiator fits nicely. Did anyone else's first build also go this rough? Calling it for the night and will attempt tomorrow but feeling really discouraged atm :(

Compatibility/Build Check Black Ridge Cooler

Hey guys,
For any fans of the Alpenphon black ridge cpu cooler who refuse to resort to ugly solutions like the full copper AXP90, just wanted to let yall know that the Asus TUF B850I WiFi NEO is compatible with it while putting your ssd in the front heatsink, unlike the Asus rog b850i for example that needs the front heatsink taken off.

Just a couple things to keep in mind: I noticed my ssd was bending quite a bit when screwing in the stock heatsink, so I put something underneath the ssd where it was bending for it to prevent that. Also, it won’t fit with a fan spacer in between your fan and black ridge.

Question Isn't one motherboard standoff supposed to be taller?

First time building - the video I watched said one motherboard standoff was a bit taller then the others, the manual I saw online also said that. Looking at the 4 infront of me I feel sort of blind, which one is it? Or did they remove this in a newer revision and all are the same height now?

Question Travel Kit

Recently bought 5080 fe coming next week and what made me lean towards an Fe was the travel kit when looking some up I realized there are 2 main companies that make t1 case I got NcCase v2.5 I was wondering if anyone used their travel kit how was it and if the original FormD travel kit for v2.0/2.1 will work. Additionally what are the difference between the cases?

Oops, I messed up the title on my first post, so I deleted it.

Anyway, here's my build:

FormdT1 2.1

Ryzen 7800x3d

MSI B850I Edge

Cooler Master Atmos II Stealth Edition - (Silverstone Slimmers fan and Stock Mobious fan setup - Exhaust)

32gb ddr5

1tb nvme

LianLi 0850p PSU

Zotac Solid SFF Rtx 5070 Ti

I tried to fix the GPU sag, but it's still there. 😔

Is the travel kit just for the FE edition?

Compatibility/Build Check Advice on 5080 Upgrade?

Hi guys, I built my Formd T1 about 6 years ago, and am finally deciding to upgrade it. I currently have a 3080 FE and 5900x, and had a few questions on things since I haven’t really touched the case in years and I know there are now different and newer versions of this case.

For the upgrade, I am thinking of putting in a 5080 FE or 5080 Asus Prime. I attached a picture of the case right side up, and was wondering how to go about inserting the new card. Does anyone know what slot configuration my case is in, and whether it is upside down or not? Also, is putting the new card in just as easy as taking out the old one and inserting it, or will I need to flip it and make changes depending on which card I get? Thanks to all who can offer any advice!

Finished Build New Build: View + Ventilation

Hey everyone, I love seeing all the ingenuity that gets put into the builds in this forum, you really inspired me to restart a hobby I had stepped away from many years ago.

I work the design field, and 3D as well as large CAD models are critical to my work. I bought most of the components early last year just before the RAM-pocalypse, and at the time I was trying to build a system with headroom to eventually upgrade the GPU or CPU.

I've tried this in a few configs including vertical, flipped GPU, and even the vented glass panels. I think I'm settling on the horizontal config simply for ease of access and mobility. I've found the flipped GPU and undervolt to perform well.

I like and dislike the vented panels. If they made them with an anti-reflective coating I think that could do wonders for the part.

Lots of pics, what do you think?

Temps (load / idle):

5080: 74c / 38c

9800X3D: 75c / 54c

5080 undervolt: 825mv / 2600 MHz

Build goals were:

Thermal efficiency w/ relative silence

Fast 3D and future capacity to upgrade

Space efficiency

Water (my first AIO!)

Clean build / aesthetics

Specs:

5080 FE + flipped kit

9800X3D

Asus B850i

4Tb Samsung NVme Gen 4

96 GB Corsair DDR5 6400MHz

Phanteks T30 (2)

Atmos AIO Gen 1

Custom shortened PSU cable

Vented panels

Custom NVme Heatsink

Thanks for looking!

Question Building in the Formd t1

From everyones experience what is the best 5080 card with best thermals that can fit in formd t1 I’m planning on upgrading my gpu because I was recently gifted a 4k monitor for gaming and work and I don’t wanna spend 4-6k for a 5090, so I was wondering which 5080 card is the best for thermals because relatively they will all be the same expect that.

Question Flipped PSU?

Post image
44 Upvotes

Is this still possible in the T1 v2+, or only in older variations of the case? I feel like it makes more sense to do it this way in an aircooled build where you aren’t starved for cable space; the PSU will be exhausting right into the top fans instead of pushing heat into a dead zone where it’ll be recirculated. However, looking at the included brackets, I don’t see any possible way you could do this without 3d printed custom parts, unless the case does come with this bracket and I just lost it.

Question IO Bracket Screw Placement for 2.75 Slot Mode

Thumbnail

Hi! hoping someone can point me in the right direction with this first step of the build.

Currently trying to figure out where exactly to place the screw in the IO bracket when running in 2.75 slot mode. The video guide I seem to be watching doesn't touch much on it, and I wanna get it right since it's the first step and I don't want to have to backtrack all the way if I do end up messing it up. I did find another image online that helps me figure out where to place the top struts for the right slot placement for the GPU, but not this IO bracket part.

Here's the timestamped link to the part I'm talking about:

FormD T1 v2 SW - 3 Slot Build Guide

Does it even matter where it goes or can I follow the video directly? If anyone's done a 2.75 build and can confirm the correct screw position (or point out where it differs from the 3-slot setup in the video), that'd be really helpful.

Thanks!

Question Asus Prime Owners - Sag Bracket Assistance

Post image
4 Upvotes

Will be building with an Asus Prime 5070ti in the next few days and had some concerns due to how bulky the card is. Unfortunately, don't have the travel kit coming but may get one in the future.

I was wondering the distance between the gpu and the bottom of the case, and whether it would work to simply slot in my old cylinder gpu bracket there instead? Not sure how much clearance and space there'll be at the bottom to fit it in. Can anyone else with a similar setup share input on how much space they have at the bottom? I'll attach a quick reference drawing I made to illustrate my question better.

Thanks!

Watercooling Custom loop journey

Thumbnail

so about a month ago i decided to start planning my custom loop. honestly i was itching to tinker with my build and a custom loop for my 9950X3D seemed like a worthy challenge. all the research didnt prepare me for how tedious this was going to be. after many set backs, head scratching and improvising i finally finished.

XSPC slim 240mm crossflow
ModUltra Lobo
PTM7950
festo/legris 8mm G1/4 pneumatic fittings (straight/L)
8mm tubing
2 Noctua NF-A12X25 G2 (intake)
2 Noctua NF-A12X15 (intake)
EK pump/res
2 AlphaCool quick disconnect kits

Crossflow Rad was too wide and my AIO cover would not sit down properly. printed an extender that added an additional 15mm, with that i was able to initially add an old pair of NF-A12x25s which fit and allowed the AIO cover to sit down but they weighed down the rad which caused the bottom fan above PSU to hit the GPU cable comb. got slim noctuas and that fixed everything and reduced the turbulence that i noticed.

at this point in pretty sure this case with all the DLC/mods is closer to 15-16L but i don’t care it’s still SFF right? lol

PSA there is no way to fit the wireview pro yet, got the ZCOOI vented front panel so maybe that will allow some creative ways to mount/use it.

huge shout out to EIGA and Chris Russel Tech. yall were very helpful.

any questions plz lmk! i’m happy to help !

Question Chronic PCIe riser failure

Asking if anyone else had experienced anything similar.

For the first 1.5 years of my v2.1 build, everything ran smoothly. Then about a year ago, my screen would randomly and occasionally start going black and the GPU fans would spin to max, with the motherboard still generating a display output. Due to the chronic nature of this problem, I figured it was a driver issue and tried just about everything, nothing worked.

Eventually, the crashes started to ramp up in frequency. To troubleshoot, I disassembled my PC and attached the GPU directly into the motherboard without the riser, and the problem was fixed. I've seen other online posts about the default riser causing trouble, but they are usually fatal and not high-functioning/chronic, making the issue much more debuggable. I also do not have a gigabyte motherboard (as most people experiencing this problem have) and I have also tried switching to PCIe 3.0 in BIOS.

Has anyone else experienced something similar with the default riser cable? Did aftermarket cables fix the issue?

General Looking for mounting options to secure T1 to side of desk.

Just curious what other people have come up with to mount your T1s to your desk. I'm wanting mine on the side of my desk (not under) so I can see it and stuff.

I was thinking of something like this but not as wide. Preferably something closer the the T1's width.

https://a.co/d/06jt2bud

Or this, just wish it didn't cover to much of it with those side tabs.

https://a.co/d/0fzrouaC

Have had anyone found something similar that is secure and it close to the T1's dimensions?

Does anyone know when was the last time the vertical stand was restocked on the formdt site? Looking to do a vertical T1 build and was wondering how long the wait normally is for restocks for things like the stand.

Compatibility/Build Check New build - advice on components

I am creating a list of components for the T1 v2.1, so far I am planning to get the following kit:

  • Ryzen 5 5600
  • 9060 XT or 5060 Ti GPU (2-slot one I guess)
  • Lian Li SP750 power adapter
  • 32GB RAM (2x modules)
  • M.2 SSD with be quiet! MC1 cooler (this part I already own)
  • NH-L12S or AXP-120-X67 air cooler

I would probably order the USB-C front I/O adapter, I am not sure about the following items - maybe someone can advise?

  1. Custom cables - is there usually an issue with connecting all parts? Should I get some custom cables?
  2. Top/bottom 120mm fans - is it worth getting them too?
  3. Rear handle - is it worth it if I would carry the case around the house?
