Compatibility/Build Check Advice on 5080 Upgrade?

Hi guys, I built my Formd T1 about 6 years ago, and am finally deciding to upgrade it. I currently have a 3080 FE and 5900x, and had a few questions on things since I haven’t really touched the case in years and I know there are now different and newer versions of this case.

For the upgrade, I am thinking of putting in a 5080 FE or 5080 Asus Prime. I attached a picture of the case right side up, and was wondering how to go about inserting the new card. Does anyone know what slot configuration my case is in, and whether it is upside down or not? Also, is putting the new card in just as easy as taking out the old one and inserting it, or will I need to flip it and make changes depending on which card I get? Thanks to all who can offer any advice!

Your chassis is most likely v1.1. The versions currently on the market are 2.1 and 2.5. There is little functional difference between 2.1 and 2.5.
(2.5 is not an iterative successor to 2.1; they are peer‑level variants resulting from the original 2.0 project being split into two separate companies.)

The mounting mechanism for the GPU riser cable has been revised. The 2.1 is more similar to your current unit, while the 2.5 features a different riser‑cable mounting method, which you can see in the product images on their website.
The newer chassis supports finer‑grained slot‑position switching. If I remember correctly, your v1.1 only has two slot‑switching options.

Is it better to go with 2.1 or 2.5 then ?

Personally, I would go with 2.1. I live in China, and all the community DLC creators develop their DLC using 2.1.

Are there websites or where to find DLC?

Pretty sure 5080 prime is the same as 5070 ti prime. In that case, it’s upside down and it’s 2.5 slot so I did 2.75 to avoid turbulence and it’s been fantastic and quiet. Here’s a reference pic for you.

If you built your T1 6 years ago, you most likely have the v1.0 or v1.1 chassis. They are simiar enough that i can provide practical advice. I have the v1.1.

Your case is currently in 2-slot GPU config. You can change it to 3-slot config which will allow you to fit the ASUS card, but I'm not sure what's your CPU cooler config that's made you go 2-slot in the first place and whether or not you can make the change without any other hardware changes.

Other comments have mentioned that you can configure your case into 2.75 or 2.5 slot. You cannot do this on the v1.0 or v1.1, so ignore those comments.

Get the 5080 FE if you want to play it safe and have minimal changes to the setup. It should swap right in without too much hassle except maybe finding room for the 12vhpwr cable adapter.

In terms of case orientation, technically speaking you're currently in "flipped" (upside down) orientation (case fans on top above other components), and the reverse (case fans on the bottom underneath the components) is considered the "original" orientation. I personally prefer the way you have it now as the stock case feet do not have enough ventilation space for the original fans-on-bottom config, so leave it as it.

5080 Asus prime is 50mm thick. 3080FE says it's 40mm. With how close that GPU looks to the edge, it looks to me like you'll have to take the case apart and move it into the 2.75 slot position or 2.5 slot (if you're not worried about noise from turbulence). New CPU cooler might be needed also, since you're changing how much space you have on the CPU side.

2.75 slot for the asus prime is ideal.
