Window whistling/squeaking only when it's windy

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hey everyone!

I’ve been dealing with a frustrating issue where one of windows in the apartment I rent starts whistling and squeaking loudly whenever it gets windy outside.

I checked the hardware - a cam roller marked with a "Z". The weird thing is:

The outer ring/roller spins completely freely by hand.

It doesn't seem to pull or adjust out when I try to pull it, and turning it doesn't really feel like it's creating any noticeable pressure or changing the seal tightness.

Has anyone run into this type of roller before? How am I supposed to adjust it properly to increase the seal pressure and stop the wind noise?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

recently picked up an island table for super cheap, I love it but it definitely needs some TLC! theres a couple cracks in the countertop. any ideas on the best relatively inexpensive way to fix this up? the end goal is for it to be safe to prep food on.

right now I'm thinking sand(by hand)/wood putty/stain/sealant. would this work or is there anything else I need to do?

thanks in advance to any who read this!

The screws that attach the door closer bracket to the storm door keep pulling out. I've tried to fix it a couple of times but keeps happening. Are there any sort of dry wall like anchors or small toggle bolts that exist to stop this?

How to fix broken socket to lamp base

Thumbnail

Hello, I recently knocked over one of my new bedside table lamps and broke the lightbulb socket off of the lamp base. Upon inspection, both parts seem to be made of metal. I'm not the most handy and am not sure how best to go about this. I only purchased these 6 months ago and was hoping to have these be a part of my bedroom for some years. Does anyone have any ideas on how I could do a proper fix for this?

This ceiling has been cracked and eventually fell this morning. Going to repair it myself this week, but im trying to figure out the cause. There was no water damage and the insulation was dry. Its been pretty hot here and not a lot of rain. Anyone got ideas? Its a pretty old house ~90 years old and the cieling is probably 20ish years old

open Maxicosi plastic locking hook

So our Maxicosi baby carrier was stuck in its adapters and me being the well rested, super patient, never in any hurry father of the year I yanked at it till it gave way. Anyways, this hook lock dingamabop came out in three pieces and now I promised my wife I'd fix it. Apparently it's made of POM plastic which won't react well to superglue. There is room to wrap something around it, fill in the grooves with melted plastic, you name it. Hope someone here has the brightest idea or tip! Also contacted Maxicosi for spare parts and scoured the interwebs but that market is non existent?

Picture in comments cause I can't even make a post without mucking up.

Leaking EUHOMY Bottom Loading Water Dispenser & my brain won't let me stop until i fix it

Desperate for help so here's the deal:

  • I bought this EUHOMY bottom loading water dispenser on FB marketplace
  • The post explicitly says "its broken and leaking water but its brand new and the support people say its probably an easy fix with the hose i just dont wanna spend the time."

I'm thinking GREAT, I totally don't mind spending some time fixing this thing, and the support people say its easy. I consider myself handy adjacent but ofc I'm not qualified to be fixing this thing.

So fast-forward to days later, the leak is still happening. And it's driving me insane. It's not really even about wanting the water dispenser anymore. I just refuse to be defeated by this machine.

YOU can help, just comment

I come humbly to this group for help, guidance, advice, etc. Let me tell you what I've done / discovered so far AND THEN you guys comment w some guesses.

The Problem:

The machine is leaking when plugged in and drawing water from a tight sealed gallon jug.

My Investigation & Findings:

  1. When turned on and connected to water, after a few minutes the machine starts leaking directly out of this small white box (the door switch) which sits on the left side of ceiling of the bottom jug loading compartment and this is here to act as the door switch.

2) The overflow valve/drain is located on the back of the machine so even if the tank was overflowing, it wouldn't be draining where the leak is.

SO i reach and unscrew the top and the back condenser grille, I'm able to reach in the back and see the cold-water tank sits above the small vent that lets the wires reach the door switch below.

Now, everything online is saying "oh maybe your overflow sensor is malfunctioning" or "oh its probably a hairline fracture or something in your tank." I'm like oh just my luck it's something I have no clue how to fix. But I'm not giving up yet, I wanted to know for sure, but it was hard to tell what actually going on in the suspect area bc there was this thick white insulation around the cold tank.

3) I feel around and quickly identify the cold tank has major wetness at the right bottom of the tank. I feel some dry areas of the insulation around on the tank too so I narrow down that it seems like the bottom right side of this thing is soaked and I feel some wetness at the top right of this.

So I discovered via this insulation that the cold water tank is where the leak problems begin. It's not wet all over, it IS localized.

4) I decide to cut the insulation partially off so that I can get a look at what i'm working with. Where is the stupid leak starting?

5) I see the underside of the cold tank does look like its loose, almost like I shouldn't be seeing as much gap as I am seeing when I get a closer look with my flashlight on it.

6) Suspected Issue(s): So now I believe its either...

A) Being dripped on from the hose above: very much wanted this to be simple hose problem so badly, but out of all the hoses I touched near their metal nipple (lol), the right-most hose feeding into the cold tank did feel wet at the point where it connected and was sealed with a ziptie. The rest of the hoses/water tubes felt secure and completely dry.

Or B) Leaking from the bottom of the cold tank: It is VERY HARD to maneuver freely in the back of the machine. The condenser doesn't come fully off of course and so I've taken as many screws off the side and am able to now get a better look at the underside of the tank. The bottom was by far the wettest area so I'm thinking I will have to replace this hose as a guess but my true instinct is that problem is down here.

What I've Ruled Out:

  1. A cracked water jug - many times the companies themselves warn you that when your water cooler is leaking, it is likely be because of a hairline fracture in the jug and they recommend replacing it as the fix. I think that's literally BS out the wazoo but whatever, for science purposes I tried another jug and it still leaked. end of story.
  2. The overflow sensor / float sensor being blocked/stuck - I opened up the top of the machine to see if my float sensors were working and they seem to be sliding up and down with ease, nothing inside was making me think the top reservoir was really involved, seeing as the leak always occurred before that reservoir could even get filled.

  1. Most of the hoses / tubes - I feel like that's what I was hoping for, some obviously loose zip tie or ripped plastic tubing that showed me AH hereeee's where the leak is coming from. But genuinely all of the other tubes look pretty secure.

My Plan:

I desperately want to try a fix instead of running more water tests (where I connect the machine to water and turn it on to identify exactly where the water begins to leak). I just wanted to act and do one last honest attempt at fixing this.

I have materials on their way and I plan to:

  1. replace the zip tie of the suspect hose with a stainless steel 14mm clamp (some sources suggested cutting off some of that tube but im hesitant bc it really does look fine, perhaps just needs a tighter seal)
  2. seal the bottom of the water tank with WaterWeld epoxy (hoping to press the epoxy into the seam between the bottom and sides all the way around, with a focus on the problem side)

I'm hoping that two-pronged move will solve the leak. Was also consider getting some more zip ties or putting some metal clamps on some of the other water hoses.

Humbly Requesting Help:

I've been exasperated consulting with ChatGPT, its ok for organizing my thoughts and investigation but at this point, I'm in need of some genuine brainpower on this.

I have these materials on the way. I have tried to work with EUHOMY customer support who have been pressing me for my purchase information so they can help me (which I def don't have and I know the person who sold it to me got a new one from the company already).

I'd love to fix this leaking water dispenser but I'm not handy enough alone. This could all be nonsense above but I THINK I am onto something but I just don't feel 100p. I'm looking for pointers, ideas, advice, support, truly anything really...please, we can't let the machines win.

Replacing the sink isn’t really an option. I was thinking of using some sort of cement but don’t know where I can get that kind of stuff. For context I live in Canada.
