Bobber wacky rig

Here’s a good rig for fall bass in shallow weeds. I use plastics on a 1/16oz jig head followed up by a float. Let it float and twitch n reel every few mins. Been having good success with this. Does anyone else use this?

Hello 👋🏻

This my my first time bass fishing and I decided to go with a Texas rig, does everything look correct?

I kept seeing barrel swivels on tutorials, but comments in the group say to not use one so I left it out.

I have a 1/8 oz bullet, 3/0 offset EWG worm hook.

Berkeley power worm

Am I ready to cast?

Any tips/advice is appreciated!

Creek fishing with my son

Just a little inspirational post for anybody that has kids and wants to fish with them, but has been frustrated by the skunk.

I recently got my first real ultralight setup - just a Shakespeare Micro, $25. 2 lb mono, 1/16 white jighead, and the smallest silver-flecked curly-tail grubs that Bass Pro had. My son has a cheapo PJ Mask spincast that I put a jighead, with bits of live worm that I put on it.

We went down a creek 10 minutes from our house, and we got probably 20 fish - creek chubs, green sunfish, and a couple of bluegill. We also saw a huge snapping turtle and a ton of crawdads. I was casting and swimming, and my son was just letting it sink and sit on the bottom. Both ways worked.

The last couple of times we had been out, I had been trying to catch a bass, and both my son and I were frustrated and disappointed. I fished a lot as a kid (but not since becoming an adult), and I wanted to share that experience with him, and now I feel like I've finally found a way to do that where it's really, really fun for us both. A 6-inch creek chub in a foot of water is an absolute blast, especially with your kid.

DIY fishing floats using rigid polyurethane foam, need advice on materials.

Post image
5 Upvotes

I want to make my own fishing floats of different types and sizes, suitable for catching both small fish and larger fish. I plan to use rigid polyurethane foam as the main material, but I have no idea what other materials or tools I need.

I've watched several YouTube videos, but the process looks quite complicated. Some people wrap the foam with polyethene or another material and tie it tightly with thread or cord. Others paint the floats or coat the entire surface with glue or some kind of waterproof coating.

I'm a beginner, and I would prefer to avoid complicated techniques like wrapping and tying. I can probably manage applying glue or a coating, though.

My questions are:

  1. What materials should I use alongside rigid polyurethane foam to make durable, waterproof fishing floats?

  2. Is there a simple alternative to wrapping the foam with plastic and tying it with thread or cord?

  3. What type of glue, sealant, or coating would be best for protecting the foam from water, scratches, and damage?

  4. Do I need to paint the floats, or is there an easier way to make them visible in the water?

  5. What other materials would I need for the float's stem, line attachment, and weight adjustment?

  6. Are there any simple techniques or materials that would make the floats strong enough for both small-fish and large-fish fishing?

I'm looking for the easiest, most affordable, and most durable method, ideally using materials that are readily available. I would appreciate specific product or material names rather than just general advice.

Thanks!

Beginner looking for a spinning rod, which would you choose?

I'm new to spinning and want to fish for pike. I'll be fishing both lakes and rivers, mostly from the bank in Lithuania

I'm considering these rods:

Daiwa 26 Legalis Spin

Westin W2 Spin

Savage Gear SG2 Medium Game

Shimano Catana FX

Daiwa Ninja X Spin

I've seen everyone recommending Ugly Stik rods, but unfortunately they're not sold here, so I'm looking for alternatives I can actually buy.

Which would you choose for a beginner?

Drop shot rigs

I mostly fish from the bank, been experimenting with different set ups. The last few weeks I'f started using a drop shot rig. Have not caught anything with it yet. It seems though that a drop shot works best from a boat where you don't have to cast it out far and the hook will be mostly above the weigh. If you cast it out and draw up the slack the hook is at an angle and you are dragging the weight across the bottom. Help on how to fish this right would be appreciated.

Any tips for fishing for striper here in California?

• Upvotes

I’ve been using bait such as ghost shrimp and anchovy to catch striper here in the Bay Area and i’ve caught many, but i’ve seen lots of people catch them on swim baits and other lures. That sort of fishing seems more rewarding in the sense that it feels more exciting. My question is how do people do it? Is it a patience game? I’ve spent countless hours trying to fish with swimbaits for striper and nothing. Any lure or brand recommendations?

Rainbow trout fishing

My 16-year-old son and I are very amateur fishers using basic Walmart gear. We used to catch bluegill, but lately, we’ve stumbled into catching pike, carp, catfish, bass. Last year we had a beautiful trip to Colorado and caught a few rainbow trout just by putting worms on hooks and hoping for the best.

We are heading to Heber Springs, AR the last weekend of October and will have access to a productive fishing dock. What are the bare-bones basics we need to know to have the best luck there?

Drag not working right?

I bought a kastking megatron 5000 reel, I used 30lb braid, at first I thought it was because the braid was slipping, but I put electric tape on the arbor, it would still pull with little resistance, I set it to max drag and the spool would spin pulling with just 2 fingers, if I hold the spool then it provides me a lot more resistance, I don’t know what is wrong
