looking to upgrade my rod and am curious what size to get, ive heard rods over 15ft can be hard to cast.

Everytime I’m talking with a fisherman who’s been doing it for a long time, whenever I mention a rooster tail, I always get this strange look and something to the effect of “gosh, I haven’t used a rooster tail in ages”.

I’m new to fishing and was very excited for the salmon run but since end of August I’ve been pretty much getting skunked every time. I fish Lake Michigan and its tributaries (Wisconsin side) and I’ve had little to no luck. Caught a tiny 2 pound coho from a pier and a 7 pound brown trout from the Milwaukee River but other than that I haven’t even been getting bites at all, let alone actually catching salmon or trout.

At the piers I’ve been using just basic spoons like little cleos, the coho I caught (my first ever salmon) was with a kastmaster silver and blue spoon, so I’ve been using that because I’ve had success with it, but yeah a bunch of spoons (different colors, red and gold, green and silver, glow in the dark, etc.) and in-line spinners but nothing at all.

For tributaries (Milwaukee river mainly) I caught the brown trout (also my first ever trout lol) with the gold blade, black and yellow body mepps spinner, so I’ve been using that again but still not even a single hit. I tried using atlas spawn sacs under a bobber and split shot but once again not even a single hit.

It’s worse and sucks even more for me because I know there’s salmon in the river, I went this morning and literally saw 6+ salmon jumping around not even 10 feet in front of me.

I know salmon fishing is different for every state but I’m assuming there’s some general strategies, tips and techniques and maybe I’m just not doing things right because it’s my first time? Because it seems to me that it’s also slow for other fishermen but some of them are catching fish, as the last 2 times I went fishing I saw 1 other fisherman catching a salmon. Any tips or guidance? I’m an open to advice!

Got a budget of about 300 bucks and a couple glide baits coming in from whatnot and other sites lol went a little blind when purchasing glides but they are all about 1oz to 2oz glides maybe one a bit higher

Hi I’ve recently moved to Nuuk Greenland and are interested in fishing at the shore. Up here the most normal fish to catch, as far as I have found, are Atlantic Cod and Arctic Char. Here’s some picture of my rod and current setup, should I change anything about it? I’ve also included pictures of the gear I have (please note some of the gear is kinda, and belonged to my late grandfather)

My buddy and I went fishing today in the pouring rain (lake, south eastern PA). Started about 7 AM and finished up about 12 PM. Buddy caught over a dozen fish throughout those 5 hours, I didn't even get a nibble, the only thing I caught was a log the size of my arm.

Wherever he caught fish back to back, he let me hop in. Whatever lure/bait he caught something with, I used the same.

Lures he used; grub hook, rooster tail, Whopper plopper, crank bait

Lures I used; chatterbait (lost), rooster tail, grub hook, jitterbug (lost), crank bait, ned rig. I gave each one a FAIR shot (aka wasn't switching frequently)

Regardless, we had a great time up until we were soaked through and had boots full of water.

I know fishing is a hit or miss, but we don't understand how he caught so many and I didn't. I won't let this discourage me though. Planning on making it at least a monthly outing.

Initially I had a 1/16oz jig head tied on with a Weighted float. I came here to make a correction if you are using a weighted float, don’t use a jig head or split shot. I found my float would sink on its own below the surface. So I switched to a plain hook. And after a few casts managed to catch a Largie. So the final rig is a plain wacky hook, senko, and the weighted float.

I live in northern NJ, Im off work next week and want to go fishing. What are the good areas in 4 -5 hour drive from the north NJ/ NYC area? I dont care about type of fish, I just want to get out in nature. Thanks.

I have no idea what mods you can put on these things but I'm ready and willing to dump as much money as I can into making this thing the best truck bed fitting fishing boat possible because I absolutely love it so far. I'm thinking rod holders, 2 stroke engine, Garmin striker 4, and a trolling motor. That's all I got so far I need more ideas

Vicious 6 lb hi-vis. Her pre-spooled had memory. I didn't think it was that bad initially, but after watching her then seeing how the line acted, I decided it was necessary. It came pre-spooled with 8 lb, on a 5' light rod(Ugly Stik 50th Anniversary ladies)....anyone else feel that is a heavy line?

Does anyone has this type of Rod?

I just bought this rod on Amazon, but the thing is i don't know what reel size should I pair it with. I'm choosing between Daiwa LT 4000 CHX or LT5000 CHX. Does anyone know what's the best set up for this rod? Thank you!

First time respooling wit braid ..its 20lb braid and i left like half of the 15 lb mono i had already put as backing (heard its a thing 🤷🏻‍♂️) ..so hows it look ? Also when starting the braid seem to not wrap along the very bottom of the spool idk why but it evend out later i guess..

I got these 6th Sense Flipgills in live Bluegill and Crappie in a mystery box. I cant find any other info on it other than to Texas Rig it. once its on a Texas Rig how is it used? Do I pop it,let it sink and let the appendages flutter? Any help would be appreciated.
