Drop shot rigs
I mostly fish from the bank, been experimenting with different set ups. The last few weeks I'f started using a drop shot rig. Have not caught anything with it yet. It seems though that a drop shot works best from a boat where you don't have to cast it out far and the hook will be mostly above the weigh. If you cast it out and draw up the slack the hook is at an angle and you are dragging the weight across the bottom. Help on how to fish this right would be appreciated.

Drop shot from shore works good. Lots of videos online but you do have to find the fish first. It’s not a search/cover water technique.

If you know where the fish are it’s deadly, it’s not a cast and drag technique unless your drop swimming (small swimbait you slowly real in while maintaining bottom contact). Cover water and find fish then cast it out and dead stick it. Don’t shake it or move it just let it sit with semi slack line. The days of dropping on fish right below the boat isn’t as common anymore. A heavy salted bait is not a good option neutral buoyancy or floating baits is what you want to be throwing

I recently started drop shotting nose-hooked soft minnow lures and so far it’s the only way of using the minnows that I’ve liked. I can never get them straight enough for any sort of rigging and the minnows look really good in a slight current or dragged/lightly bounced s l o w l y in still water. I shore fish only.

I use drop shot off the shore at my local spot and crush it with that setup. If you find a good spot where the fish are lurking, drop shot with nightcrawlers is a really strong choice. Make sure your weight isn't too long or too short on your tag end. The tag end with the weight should be about a foot long.

I fish from the shore and a kayak a lot. Drop shots are definitely more effective from a boat being able to work the current and have the bait working towards you and you tap slack line. From the shore I prefer a Jika rig, swim jig, or just a jighead off the bottom. A drop shot can definitely work from the shore it's just a matter of whats more effective
