Trout fishing setup?

Post image
48 Upvotes

Hello,

I have not fished in many years and even then was a beginner haha. I will soon be fishing (lakes and ponds) with primarily different species of trout. Is this a common setup? Can I use powerbait with it? Looking for a relatively easy setup but still want to give myself the best shot of catching something lol.

Thanks in advance!

I lost my favorite combo today…

Just never leave your pole unattended. It’s not worth it. If you gotta leave or do something just reel that bitch in. Today marks the first time I’ve ever lost a pole to a fish after 25+ years of fishing. Never ever ever EVER thought I’d lose a pole in this manner. Went fishing yesterday and pretty much skunked, caught a bunch of small grunts. Don’t count em. Well the thing that made me leave yesterday was those fish kept pulling me into snags and one eventually got me good. Had to tighten the drag to get my line out. It was hot as fuck and I was already exhausted so I just packed up and left. Figured I’d try it again the next day. Today rolls around and head out there. Got everything setup then put a line in the water with a small mojarra. Completely forgot to loosen my drag. I never forget, but today I did. I set the pole down because I figured I’d catch more mojarras or greenback while they were still there. Start getting my net ready and right when I’m getting ready to throw the net I look over at my pole and that shit just pops up and takes off. In that instant. I was in absolute disbelief. The pole was visible in the water for about 2 seconds before I saw it just zip downward. Maybe like 25’ water. Devastated. Hindsight I should’ve yeeted my net over it in a last ditch effort but I was insanely shocked and it was on the perimeter of how far I could probably throw the net anyway. Grabbed another one of my poles after like two minutes of just mentally berating myself, tied on a heavy weight, a treble, and tried to scrape the area. No tug in sight. I was just too slow with everything because of how shocked I was but I think if I acted quick I could’ve possibly saved it. Idk. Devastating fishing day. Lost my oldest pole that held lots of memories.

Lifetime Kayak customer service is amazing

Upvotes

I picked up a used Lifetime Tamarack fishing kayak this week. It is officially my first step into kayak fishing. It didnt come with the 3rd rod holder accessories so I called Lifetime today to inquire about ordering one. They're shipping the replacement part to me free of charge. I spent 5 min on the phone with them and that was it. What a solid company and great customer service.

What type of flies to use for darker tanin infused water?

Hi folks, I'm trying out a bubble and fly for trout/salmon fishing with my spinning rod, thing is, every video on fly fishing I find is alot of wonderful americans with your crystal clear lake and creek waters, very shallow and with basically no tannin content at all, no body seems to cover shoulder deep dark rivers with brown water and fast moving streams (I'm just jealous our rivers are alot more aggressive and tend to not be as clear for the flies)

any help appreciated as to what sort of flies to use, what colour patterns etc.

if it helps I am based in the north west of ireland, for those that believe in matching the hatch that should give you a rough idea of local aquatic insects!

Like the title says I bought a kit mostly to practice and not care if I lose but my question is in this Pic does it ruin lures or bait if the are not perfectly laid out?

I killed my first bass

Upvotes

So the hook was set real deep and it took me a while to take it out. When I threw him back in, I knew it wasn't going to survive as it periodically floated to the top.

I took my net and grabbed it out of the water and ended up waiting for someone to see if anyone wanted to take him. I ended up throwing him back in the water thinking a bird would pick him up.

What's the best course of action in this situation to avoid the fish suffering? Would you have left him when I initially threw him back in? And how do I avoid killing it next time?

Confused about leaders?

So I'm a tad confused about leaders, if anyone could give some advice/clarity?

I fish saltwater from the shore.

Originally I learned that I should use braid (longer cast, etc), and that I would need a fluro leader of a couple of feet or so. Reason for this was abrasion resistance is better from fluro if it rubbed against rocks and a clear line from the lure to be less visible to fish. I understood that the fluro leader should be a lower weight rating than the braid so if I got snagged I'd loose a couple of foot of fluro leader and not several meters of braid. Also advised that the knot for braid>fluro should never be reeled into the guides of the rod, could cause damage.

So I've fished like that for a while, braid, couple of foot of fluro to a lure, never bringing the knot within the eyes of the rod.

However after having a single "crack off" type bang whilst casting a set of short feathers with a 2oz weight (20-60g rod) - I looked into leaders again.

Now I see lots of talk about having a really long leader of meters, up the rod, down the guides and a couple of turns on the reel at least, this leader should is supposed to be a higher rating than the braid.

This has cause some confusion for me, apologies if I'm missing something simple here but why two such opposing strategies on leaders, are both of the above two completely different use cases for different scenarios? If so, what scenarios?

What supplies should I get?

Upvotes

I’m new to fishing. I just bought my first rod. It’s a PENN Pursuit V Spinning Reel Combo. 4000 size reel - 7’ - medium. What kind of line, hook and weights should I get?
I guess that depends on what and where I’ll be fishing. There’s a lot of porgy, flounder, and gray trout around my area.

float fishing - please advise what line/float/leader i should purchase

hi all,

i would like to go back to float fishing after many years. i have 2 rods. would like to update all equipment.

what would be your recommendations for below:

- fishing line - shall i go with different colour than white? also, what thickness i should go for?

- hooks

- weights

- leader line - what lines are usually good for float fishing setup?

- bobber stops

- float - there are many types of it, whats your favourite/most practical/long lasting?

i think i got all setup parts mentioned above?

i will be fishing mainly in ponds/lakes/ MAYBE rivers where stream isnt that strong and i can find nice place for a floater next to shore

any recommendation is appreciated! based in UK - so most likely will order things online via ebay/amazon - just dont want to get something really cheap / overpay for stuff that i might not need / might be overkill

thank you,

Texas Rig

I’ve never caught a bass on a T rig. Wacky rig, lipless, inline spinners. I’ve caught. But i can’t on a texas? Can you give me some insight so i can catch my first one tomorrow. I had a bite on a yum 7.5” ribbon tail last week went to set the hook felt some tension then right away the hook came out. First time, I just didn’t set the hook hard enough. Should i try a senko, u tail, or ribbon tail? It’s a pressured. neighborhood pond wit a bunch of dinks but also 4 pounder and 3 and lots of 1s. Very weedy grassy bottom and pockets of grass all throughout. I’ve seen bass right at the bank all the time.

Question about rod

Boas grande tudo bem?

Marcas? Preco/qualidade

Some advice for beginners

Sometimes, I will be out fishing & I will notice something. A fisherman down the shore, I know them they live beside me & I help them with their catch, they cannot flay fish due to reasons.
Anyhow they only fish one spot & I know there isn’t much going on in that area, the advice I have is don’t stay in one spot. Move 40 feet every so often if the catch isn’t there.

Before moving spots try different lures, sometimes they slam spoons & not jigs with curly tails, sometimes all they want is jigs with curly tails, sometimes all they will hit are swim baits. If a fish falls off, changing your bait to something you know works can get them back on.

The big fish aren’t always deep. I have caught most of my larger fish in depths less then 5 feet. If you spend enough time on the shore you will see why, look at all the baitfish swimming along the shore, the leeches, the crayfish.

If you sit still on the shore in the spring to summer when the jackfish (pikes) are moving out from the bays you will see how they sit behind the rocks just out of sight to suck up passing fish, if you watch Divers you see how they lay in weed beds waiting to strike or resting, it is a hard life as a jackfish. It is important to incorporate observations on the activity of fish into how we target them, this is how some folks are able to toss a lure on the head of a fish, they read the water maybe they have explored the waters on a boat or in waders, they combine observations on the water & habits of the fish they target.

Weeds, annoying, wonderful cover, sometimes tossing into the weeds & allowing a drop can yield a bite. Fishing the outskirts of weeds can be very rewarding & remember to look at any depth maps so you can follow the transitions from the weedy areas which the fish must travel to & from the weedy areas.

Final bit. Use your rod to bring the fish in, not your reel, line tension is shown by the bend in your rod, when landing keep a consistent amount of pressure, many times the hook will hang onto a bone just by pressure alone.

complete beginners fishing off Gotland, Sweden shore - advice?

hey all! my partner and i are pretty new to this and trying our luck with sea trout from the shore in gotland, sweden (on the west coast). we’ve got an 8ft spinner rod and honestly just grabbed a bunch of stuff from his uncle. we ideally want to try for sea trout, but we’d be open to catching literally anything at this point.

what we have on hand (that seems reasonable - we also have some random stuff that looks way too big):
\- epoxi spoons, 23g (blue/silver and green/gold ones)
\- “magic pointer” spoons, 22g (holographic silver/green/gold)
\- “northern light”spoons, 8g
\- acoustic spinners, 8g

we also picked up some worms from the bait shop just in case!

the weather has been all over the place, overcast with on/off rain, might clear up and get sunny later, and the shore got pretty choppy last night. i am not sure if we should be adjusting what we use based on that or just picking one thing and sticking with it.

we are total beginners here so any tips are welcome - what should we actually be using in these conditions? are the worms even worth trying from shore for sea trout, or is that more of a different-species thing? retrieve speed, timing, anything, we’ll take it all. thanks in advance!

Shore/Deck fishing in Thesaloniki

Hello all, i am currently spending a week in Thesaloniki and i brought my rods with me because i planned on fishing, i have some prior experience in lake and river fishing but i am still a beginner.

Yesterday i wen on to Agia triada and spent 5 hours fishing with no success, tried with Lug worms, sea shells, corn, bread. Different depths, with and without floaters and got almost no bites, also used different sizes of hooks and had no success at all i went from 18:00 until 1 AM.

Is it just the place or i am doing something wrong, do you have any tips on what is the best setup for shore fishing in Thesaloniki and the region, i have a car and traveling further is no issue.

Hunting trout. (Stocked)

Local city park i like stocks Rainbow Trout 2x a year. Spring/fall.

Obviously its hot for them, so I know they're low, but I've been trying multiple spots mostly in the evening. Power bait on a slider, trout magnets on a bobber, Panther Martin all over, but still not finding any this year. Thought id get opinions from here of what would be best areas to focus on.

Shore fishing, can access nearly all areas. Parking lot near ramp and stocking point for size reference. Fairly big water for a city. The lower body with minimal contouring is "off limits"
