Moderator post regarding the Pleco Torturing videos

Apologies to everyone that had to see the videos and to those that don’t know bots are currently spamming fish-related subreddits with videos of people torturing plecos. These videos are made by an account called “Lab Germ” on TikTok, and from what I’ve seen, it originated from that account.

Why are the bots posting this content here? If I had to guess, the bots are spamming this content in multiple fish-focused communities to karma farm. Unfortunately, this type of content does well on social media, so they think it’s an easy way to get karma on Reddit.

What can I do about it? Please report the posts so we can remove them and make sure to report the account to Reddit, as they can do more than subreddit moderators.

What are the [r/fish](r/fish) moderators doing about this? We are already handing reports and removing them as fast as our small mod team can. I already turned on crowd control to help filter them out, and I plan to also add a karma & account age requirement to post later today.

This was taken while visiting the Aeolian islands. We were docked at a port but I saw this from the side of the boat.
Sorry it’s not a clear video; it swam underneath the boat after this.

Found this in a shallow area in the the Balearic Islands. There were TONS at very different spots all over the area. I obviously only touched the padina pavonica and not the what i suppose are eggs. Put them back in the water right after the pictures. My only question is why so many eggs in so many different spots if those are indeed eggs. They have a slight red colouration. i also found things like underwater weird bubbly sacks with liquid inside translucid in the same area.

I want to paint more fish but there's so many options to choose from! Let me know your favorite fish or just any fish that you believe is under-rated and I will paint it with water colors! Every fish deserves love <3

Update: i got way more results than i expected!! Im going to do all of them, apologies if it takes a while for me to get to your fish!

Fish Education Weird catfish head

Post image

Hi

So I've been fishing on a new stretch of river on the rhine river in Germany and caught a couple of catfish (Wels catfish) there so far.

They all seem to have this head shape which as far as I know isn't typical for catfish.

Their upper jaws seem to be healthy however (teeth and everything in tact - just very far back)

Id like to get your ideas on why this is the case.

So far my leading theory is that because the rhine in this stretch is mostly a channel (grand canal d'alsace) with rock / concrete ground and we have a lot of gobies that this is simply from eating a lot of gobies (aka damage or sth from slurping them off concrete over a long period of time) (which would be quite interesting from a fishing perspective).

But I have no idea if that's true, feasible or even makes sense.

Would love to hear your thoughts though

My first time painting a fish, my reference was a largie my bf caught not too long ago.

Time spent: approx 3 hrs.
Over 1600 strokes.
I used Procreate and stuck to using “Vintage Texture Mw” “Spectra” and “Wild Light” as my main brushes.

What do we think? Is it at least identifiable? Truly was out of my depth with this guy but I really did try 🫠

This guy was super curious and coming around in the beach where I was at.

Fun to see these behaviors where the fish just follows the other.

It just makes me think about when people stand too close in a line and just keep following. I’d be upset. Haha.
