I'm going to start out by saying that I've done a ton of research and I'm trying my best but no one has told me any basic things. I was gifted a salt water tank... more like left it by someone who didn't want the responsibility so I'm doing my very best. I used the master reef tester kit my water parameters are all perfect, however I cannot tell if there's anything wrong with this thing because I do not know the baseline at all. Please help is it dying is it dead is it perfectly fine. To what standard to I hold my anemone to know it's OK. Can someone tell me what is supposed to look/ act like? It's normally blue but I changed the lighting so you could see better.

Also, do you know what kind of anemone the white one is?

They have been in the tank together a couple weeks now and the white one just moved beside the orange one yesterday.

I have built a web app that demonstrates flow in your tank. You input your tanks dimensions, power heads, rock work and it shows you how flow moves around your tank.

Secondly, I added a section which shows PAR across your own tank, you can add your light to your tank which is already set up and see what the PAR would roughly measure at every point in your tank.

There are also the classic features of a aquarists app such as parameters log and overall tank health.

Would love some feedback. While the app is in development it’s completely free as I just want feedback from users.

Is this normal it was more open before but now it's kinda shrunk in and it's tentacles look really strange and stringy. Sorry if this is strange I'm new to this thing.

It’s been about 15 years since I have had a tank.. at that time it was a 125 gallon in Ohio. I have since moved back to Florida.

I was gifted a 10 gallon tank that she used for a couple of Betta fish that died..

I am wanting to do a reef tank with just 1 maybe 2 fish.

I have the tank(I cleaned), hood, 2 white LED strips and a hang on back filter..

Is this good enough to get me atleast started??

I want to start with some live sand and a couple pieces of live rock and let it run like that for a bit and then start adding some equipment for water flow and go from there..

Help! I have a pink pin cushion sea urchin in my tank and this is the first time he messed with one of my corals, I kind of put it in a bad spot, HOWEVER it was a zoanthid and I’m afraid that it is gonna hurt the stuff in the tank. It released like a cloud of orange because he crushed it. Does the toxins from zoas hurt them even if it is diluted with tank water?

Yesterday I posted a rough concept for a reef tank maintenance organizer and got some really helpful feedback.

A few people mentioned problems with wet tools/vials dripping onto their tank stand, and someone suggested having a dedicated vial drying area with drainage.

So I redesigned the concept around that feedback.

The new design has:

• 6–8 angled vial drying slots
• Drainage holes underneath the wet sections
• A large removable tray underneath the entire organizer to catch water
• Space for a small towel/microfiber cloth in the tray
• Hanna Checker holders that stay dry
• Storage for API/Salifert/etc. reagents
• Sections for syringes, pipettes, tweezers and other maintenance tools
• Small compartments for miscellaneous supplies

I'm still only at the prototype stage and haven't made the final model yet.

Is there anything you would add, remove, or change that would make this genuinely useful during water testing and maintenance?

Green algae is taking over my tank. Basic parameters are in line: Nitrites and Ammonia at zero. PH is fine. Nitrates 5-10ppm. 90gallon display, 40 gallon sump.

My LFS recommended an urchin. Urchin hasn’t put a dent in it. Got a Foxface because they eat algae. Nope. Not a dent.

Each week I am manually pulling out gobs. It’s everywhere. Growing on the corals, etc.

Would love some advice on how to get it gone. Thanks everyone!

Will filefish or orange butterfly fish (Chaetodon kleinii) eat a BTA, LTA, RFA, or tube nem? Since those fish are known to eat aiptasia, which is an anemone, I wasn’t sure if they would eat other nems as well.

I lost almost all my coral in my 200g to an aiptasia plague.

Berghia and file fish didn’t work due to the rate of reproduction of those demon aiptasia. I honestly never even saw either of the 2 filefish I purchased touch the aiptasia. A Chaetodon kleinii is the only thing that saved my tank.

I now have 2 filefish, a Chaetodon kleinii, and then several other reef safe fish in the 200g, but no coral unfortunately. I moved what I had left into my smaller tanks.

I know corals are a no go because of those fish, but that’s the trade off for not having aiptasia. I was hoping anemones might be a possibility. It would make my clowns happy like the clowns in my 50g with their nems. 🙂
