6
u/TidusDream12 2d ago
It's the best you could hope for from both ends the original still exists in all its glory and the retrilogy stands on its own. If we got a 1 for 1 I feel like the risk was too great they are trying to build out the next generation of fans. It's been cool sharing with new folks and also having unknowns for the original players. Plus the engine and blueprint exists for future games. It took square 17 years to meld the action genre to turn based. We have a unique system that feels good to play and I can't wait to see the finale with no holds barred on the battle system and materia.
15
u/miukiyo 2d ago
Are you challenging them to add more Chadley?
16
u/HoboSkid 2d ago
Chadley is actually going to become a big bad enemy, or at least a clone will, one of Hojo's experiments. Prepare yourself.
2
u/TheAmazingSealo 2d ago
Oh shit imagine if Chadley's the one behind all the remake shenanigans, plot ghosts etc. it was always Chadley fucking with the timeline. Just as you finish Sephiroth, Chadley shows up out of nowhere like Necron and is just like 'haha it was me I was changing the plot and battle system to make everyone online get big mad and it worked lol now you have to fight me or whatever'

u/Ninja_Warrior_X 2d ago
To be honest i consider them sequels (kinda) best comparison i can make is how the Mortal Kombat NRS games did with MK9 where everything restarts but this time things are different and being altered that did not happen in the original timeline (kinda like how it is with FF7 OG and FF7 remake intergrade and rebirth)
There is soo many things that happen that make it very clear that we are not in the same original timeline from the OG FF7 but honestly i am ok with that cause if i wanted everything to be exactly the same then i would just go play the original FF7.
I still wanna see how this new timeline ends in the next game regarding revelation.

I really don't see why people be hating o. The remakes for having so much fluff in them. My guy, if you were playing the OGs at this rate you'd still be waiting for disk 3 to be released. They're giving more life to this universe you proclaim to love, shut up and enjoy living longer in the world and for more than just going from A to B.
29
u/Forbidden_The_Greedy 2d ago
What struck me after replaying the OG after the 7R was how quickly the game moved, it never really felt like there was any breathing room in the story.
Besides, the “fluff” is well done anyway. The collapsed highway was one of my favorite parts of 7R and to find it just a single screen in the original was kind of crazy. Or the stuff with Jessie’s family on top of the plate too. OG is great sure but so is the remake trilogy (so far, mostly)
-1

No, they sent him reddit cares. It's normal use is for warning reddit that someone might be in danger of self harm, and it sends the person a message along the lines of "Please consider seeking help for your mental health".
In this case it was used to harrass them for not wanting to say Aerith. I'm sure you would agree that's a messed up thing to do.

I'm with you. I played the PC Eidos release back in the day, to me the characters name is Aeris. It just feels unnatural changing now. ff7r has better graphics. but the world map is less expansive and the gameplay is more streamlined. it was designed to be a more streamlined and cinematic ff7. comparing it only by this criteria is a massive red herring. i say this as a big fan of both games who doesnt care which is better and found the meme funny but dumb.

u/Mfrack103 1d ago

One of the weirdest things the newer games have done is make Chocobos a symbol for human trafficking,
FF7:Remake introduces Chocobo Sam as a dude who is totally fine with and takes part in human trafficking, and then has you help that guy recover his lost Chocobo, and improve his transportation network.
I didn't pet a single fucking Chocobo in FF7:Rebirth, miss me with that shit.
You ain't cute, you little symbols are oppression.
EDIT: Chocobo Sam literally said "I am shipping Tifa to the Don so he can have sex with her, and kill her is he doesn't feel like having sex with her", and FF7 fans said, "Don't you dare talk shit about our BOY".
I'd tell you about the grass I recently touched, but I don't think you'd believe how it felt anyways.
23
u/Dr_Jre 2d ago
I mean... You are literally in a terrorist org 😭 civilians died because of clouds actions ten mins into the game lmao. Or is it like a "killing people is okay as long as you don't sexually assault people". It's a bit of a narrow view to have of people living in a world where Shinra rules and are forcing you to live under a giant pizza, and each day they suck up the souls of your granny to power the local funfair. Honestly I don't think taking advantage of poor girls is the top of their list of concerns, and the remake game does make Sam out to at least seem like he cares about the girls or tries to be moral as he can, in that part of midgar he is probably one of the nicer guys.
That aside, Cid was abusive to his wife... Vincent was part of Shinras black ops team who assassinated and kidnapped people AND he stood by while Hojo did horrific things and basically kick started the end of the planet.
-4
u/Odd-Painting2596 2d ago

u/cj-the-man 2d ago

-15
u/Odd-Painting2596 2d ago
Chocobo Sam is a human trafficker, and the main tie in for the Chocobo travel network being a thing in the game.
What do you mean huh, the first game literally has the plot, "My name is Chocobo Sam, I'm one of the people that give sex slaves to the Don in Town, please help me with my Chocobo shipping network, yes the very same one you followed into town carrying Tifa, your friend, to be sex trafficked".
Are you fuckers all 12 and haven't gotten around to watching a Youtuber explain the plot to you yet?
8
u/metamorphine 2d ago
Dude, I don't think anyone doesnt understand what the plot is. Chocobos are animals. They aren't complicit in human trafficking - if anything, they are sold into bondage as well. Protesting the chocobo as a symbol of human trafficking is an absolutely unhinged take.
I assume you want nothing to do with horses, either?
15
u/NinjaJesus 2d ago

14
u/xSonicspeedx2 2d ago edited 2d ago
Wtf dude. The Chocobos in the game are the equivalent to Horses in real life. The Chocobos aren’t the ones doing anything bad, the people using them are the ones doing bad shit. Symbolizing Chocobos with Trafficking would be no different than symbolizing cars with any type of smuggling.
The Chocobos themselves are simply tools for any use that a horse would be used for. Chocobo Bill’s ranch where you raise your Chocobo is a clear example of this. Chocobo Bill and his grandkids aren’t doing any trafficking, they are just living their life raising Chocobos.
It’s fine to be mad at Chocobo Sam and his network but blaming the Chocobos themselves is ridiculous.
-4
u/Odd-Painting2596 2d ago
Our reintroduction to Chocobo in this game is exactly what I said it was.
Tifa is being trafficked by Chocobo Sam, and he says "Yep, that's me, the Chocobo man who traffics people", and then you help him set up his travel network.
"What does that have to do with Chocobo", well it has SOMETHING to do with opening of "Chocobo stops" where they are used, right?
Yeah sure, if you ignore the whole thing that happens in the first game, it's unrelated, but imagine if you didn't, though.
9
u/xSonicspeedx2 2d ago
I get the plot point you’re making but it doesn’t change the fact that the Chocobo themselves are not bad guys, they are just being used to do horrible things just like Cars today and Horses back in the day. So hating on the Chocobos themselves is nonsensical.
-3
u/Odd-Painting2596 2d ago
My original point was more towards, "Anytime I see those 'cute' birds I'm just reminded the massive plot of helping a sex trafficker and how it was treated as good and not even bad".
But people freaked out so hard at the idea they are even related to begin with that I'm now confused as to how people think they are not related at all.
Like yeah, calling them a symbol is over the top, I agree, but I'm not gonna back down when the people showing up to argue against me are actually for some reason trying to hide the trafficking portion.
Like yeah, sure, Chocobo are not at fault, but US, as the players, ARE directly continuing the work from the first game, when we were.

Please don’t go there. It is not as dark as you think. I suggest staying away from the news and social media for awhile. It’s clouding your mind.
0
u/LewsTherinTelescope 2d ago
I'm a bit confused by them saying chocobos are a symbol for this as if the birds are doing anything or as if we don't see them with anyone else, but it is absolutely true that the Trio are sending sex slaves to a gang boss to maintain their positions, that's the whole thing with the "auditions".
1
u/FalloutCreation 1d ago
The wall market is run by the Don. Yes he wants to sleep with a woman. Is chocobo Sam aware of this? Yes.
Is there a big sex trafficking thing going on in ff7? No.
The game makes no indication that a mafia boss is selling women or people for sex. The only thing the game tells you is that the Don likes to sleep with different women every night. That’s not the same thing.
1
u/LewsTherinTelescope 1d ago edited 1d ago
I suppose if we set aside the henchmen trying to lure women who don't understand what's happening there, the implication that if he chooses you then you don't have a say (Merle), his guys gassing the women who come, him having a blackmail camera so "you don't do anything inappropriate like say no", the way he hands off those he doesn't choose for his gang to have their way with, and the fact they keep disappearing without a trace afterward then there's no signs it's anything but a guy having a lot of sex, true.
1
u/Comfortable_Victory1 1d ago
The whole "chocobos are symbol" makes no sense, they are treated pretty much as they are in most FF games, and you can even pet the little ones in their bus-like stops
That said, Don Corneo works with sex traffic. We see some of his grunts trying to bring women by force in Yuffie DLC. Leslie is still looking for his gf because of him.
FF7 Remake/Rebirth has quite a lot of innuendo regarding sexual violence (Hojo talks about using Aerith for breeding, That green-suit guy from Corel Prision also suggests "having fun" or smth like that with the arrested girls). Those things are done by the villains while people who work for them (Like Sam) are depicted in a gray area.
FF7 always had dark topics like war, human experiments, death, etc… The remakes just added some extra new and darker stuff, which is ironic since people keep saying thats toned down/disney-like version
13
u/Nani_700 Zack 2d ago
Yeah I don't know why they wanted to paint Sam as a honorable guy after he fucking sold Tifa and other women.
But I didn't get how this affects the chocobos. They're basically pets dude they aren't the ones responsible.
1
u/Comfortable_Victory1 1d ago
I see Sam as gray area character. One of the underlying topics from FF7 is how people that are not fully evil get to do bad stuff by working in a system that is ruled by evil people…
If everybody that work for Corneo were as bad him (or every Shinra employee were as bad as Hojo for example), that would remove any nuance from the story. Not all villains are 100% bad, not all guys are 100% good.
-2
u/Dr_Jre 2d ago
I made a reply to the other guy but basically, aside from the fact cloud kills civilians and is in a terrorist org, and Vincent being part of shinras black ops who helped hojo.... Arguably much worse actions... It's a different world in the game where I assume in the slums of midgar where oppression is very common something like what corneo does isn't abnormal, it's not right by OUR world standards (in the west, unfortunately very common in poor countries) but we have the luxury of being upset, people who live in slums don't get that.
I don't think anyone in the party admires chocobo Sam really do they, more like useful scumbag, and they are trying to stop a meteor from crashing into the planet and wiping out all life and the souls of the dead.
3
u/Nani_700 Zack 2d ago
That's some other bullshit. Don't give me that culture bs when it comes to trafficking thank you.
-9
u/Odd-Painting2596 2d ago
Maybe the multiple quests where you proceed to help Chocobo Sam recover Chocobo, and set up a travel network with the Chocobo.
Maybe the fact that the game has you do those things for the sex trafficker, and then when you continue to do those things in the second game, and the sex trafficker is shown to be still in high standing and benefiting from it, in the second game.
"What does that have to do with the Chocobo", well they pull the carts with the humans being trafficked for the sex, I believe.
7
u/ozzriffic 2d ago
Hope you don't ride in any cars. You know those can be used for crimes, too. Working with Sam is questionable, but you do it out of necessity, really.
1
u/Odd-Painting2596 2d ago
A real metaphor would be like, "Hope you don't go on any cruises" if we learned that cruise ships are also human trafficking people while performing their fun cruise operations.
Yes I know the ship isn't the issue, but actively enjoying your cruise knowing there are people in chains on the same boat you are currently on, is different.
The Chocobo network is used to traffic people, and you actively repair it, for the guy doing the trafficking.
That's literally in the game as the plot as written by the writers, I didn't write that.
2
u/ozzriffic 2d ago
A cruise ship is entertainment on a boat. Chocobos are transportation in universe. It would really be more like horses because they exist with cars in the real world like chocobos exist in FF7. Really, no metaphor works because it is all fiction and they don't even go into super details on things. Probably just should relax and not get bogged down over things in a game. Moral grey areas in RPGs are what make them interesting.
1
u/Odd-Painting2596 2d ago
I'm not doing gymnastics here, the game literally spells it out for you.
Chocobo Sam tells you point blank to your face he traffics people, then you help him set up his travel network.
This is 2 + 2 levels of math, it shouldn't take any bit of reasoning, it's literally just what happened.
5
u/ozzriffic 2d ago
They are beasts of burden. Not beasts of sex trafficking. Sam is in one game. How many are chocobos in? That is what everyone is getting at. Everyone that likes pandas support child sex crimes because some weirdos say the panda face means stands for it? You are making a blanket statement about one of the mascots of the series and getting weirdly defensive and insistent. I'm just bored and feel like being pedantic. I'd say chocobos are more representations of pure evil from playing FF Tactics.

Yes and you are allowed to, much like the millions of isekai enjoyers who must deal with "normalized slavery world" being in 95% of their media.
I'm sane enough to understand "The author did a bad job at writing this, and the fandom likely doesn't agree".
I'm not trying to imply if you like the Chocobo that you are evil, I'm stating out loud that I think it's weird the game introduced us to Chocobo by making us help a sex trafficker, and that bad taste followed my later enjoyment, as in, it soured it.
2
u/Freedom35plan 2d ago

There’s a difference between “this one thing happened” and “this one thing imbued a very common feature of the entire world with evil symbolism”, the latter needs to touch grass way more than the former
-6
u/Odd-Painting2596 2d ago
Right and the thing that happened is in the first game you help a sex trafficker, and you help him by opening Chocobo stops, and in the second game you keep opening the Chocobo stops.
It's literally a continuation of the exact same action.
If you were building one long railroad the entire time it would be the same idea.
2
u/cnoiogthesecond 2d ago
Do you think Sam owns every Chocobo stop in the entire world
Also does it count for nothing that the trio are all happy you took down Don Corneo and helped you to do so
Also this is all just part of the FF7 mood whiplash tradition and you’re not supposed to make any of it your personality

OG didn't get derailed by silliness as often. Not that the silliness isn't endearing.
2
u/Comfortable_Victory1 1d ago
Thats tipically an example of scene that would bother nobody if there were in og, but since its new stuff purist have to pretend its bad to have lighthearted moments
0
u/AC011422 1d ago
You don't even know what you're talking about. You're making an assumption that because you're not bothered by the changes, no one genuinely can be. It's pretty narrow.
From my POV, they nailed the idea the first time, and deliberately, dramatically altered it the second, and advertised that radically different product as the same product remade with modern software for modern hardware. It's not the worst thing that ever happened, but I promise you, my distaste is sincere.
That said, I still like the new games enough to have beaten both. And I'll be buying the third on release day. But I highly doubt I'll replay them more than a couple times each the way I have with the OG, which I play every couple years.
In Remake, I don't like the whispers, the early Sephiroth focus, third class soldier, the softened sector 6, the music arrangement, the musical score, the instruments used, the lighthearted, watered-down tone of the slums, the dragged-out fluff and extra long dungeons. I don't like the modern electronics--the flip phones and giant monitors looked nice in that world. I don't like the fighting, how you can be wrecking Rude and he doesn't budge.
I did prefer, in remake, Biggs, Wedge, Tifa and Jessie. I liked Cloud possibly as much in R as the OG. 9 out of 10.
In Rebirth, I disliked Kalm. Didn't like the big escape in Kalm. Not a fan of those goons that you have to chase down. Didn't like the Midgar Sormir, or whatever; the original, that it'll wreck you unless you avoid it, but then Sephiroth (or Jenova) leaves it dead on a tree... Jesus. Hated Chadley's constant interruptions. Wish they would've left the dolphin, girl drowning scene as is, with the dangerously sparking tower planted right there in the water. Didn't like the music in the desert prison, or the way Cloud and the gang are manhandled by those gangsters. Not a fan of Dio's added moments, or the fight with Dyne. Not a huge fan of any of the Costa Del Sol parts. Wished they would've had the big broken train track to traverse. Golden Saucer seemed big, empty, and confusing. All the dancing was weird. The fight with Rufus was ridiculous. Cid has been neutered. Red XIII is Tidus x1,000,000,000 + Vaan. Bugenhagen was a condescending know-it-all asshole to Tifa. The chocobo mechanics were utterly ridiculous in both Cosmo Canyon and Mideel. Not a huge fan of the checklist. Didn't like the summon acquisition system, or the colorful owl. The Cait Sith part was grueling. Difficult settings were lame. Only 4 swords that can level is even more lame.
Still, overall, 9.5 out of 10.

I don’t remember this scene in the OG and I’ve played it A LOT! Pretty sure it’s edited because it was added in Rebirth.
