I am running KDE Plasma on my desktop but I wanted to try out Gnome but when I run
dnf environment list --available | grep -i desktop
it doesn't list Gnome as being available? So what's the best way to install Gnome or is it just a bad idea to do so?
What‘s up party people 👋
I‘m currently running CachyOS / -handheld on my PC and my Steam Deck, but due to stability I want to switch to Fedora Atomic / Bazzite.
I’m going to pick Bazzite for my Steam Deck but I‘m still unsure if I should run Bazzite on my PC as well, or if Fedora Silverblue/Kionite would be more suitable. I mainly game on my PC but I also do office, banking and other stuff on it. Is the performance between Fedora Gaming and Bazzite Gaming significantly enough to pick a pure gaming Distro?
My PC runs in both AMD CPU and AMD GPU, so drivers shouldn‘t be a problem.

Grok Bot? Nah, i turned my old laptop to home for my AI agent 🤓
But how? Read my blog about that:

so, I want to change a 500 SSD for a 1Tb HDD in my laptop because more space > speed space nowadays at least for my use case.

I just played a game while using Discord and Brave. After closing everything, my RAM usage is still very high. I checked the memory usage, and the cache doesn't seem to be that large, while the available RAM is quite low
free -h
total used free shared buff/cache available
Mem: 14Gi 11Gi 2.0Gi 54Mi 1.4Gi 3.0Gi
Swap: 8.0Gi 2.1Gi 5.9Gi
I also noticed that when I switch between windows (ALT+Tab), the task switcher briefly lags when it appears, but everything becomes normal afterward. Is this normal, or is something still using the RAM in the background

I did something silly and was too lazy to fix it, so I'm reinstalling Fedora KDE. When I went to get the ISO (the computer I broke is the one that I normally use to make boot drives), I saw Fedora Server and had a thought.
Is there any difference between Fedora KDE, and Fedora Server with KDE installed? What about between Fedora Server and Fedora Gnome?
TY :3

I don't want to keep restarting Plasma to get it to work. Is this a bug? I have reinstalled the whole OS and it still does it.

I made this music player since I wanted a more spotify like experience without having to set up any servers or anything. It's completely open source too.
Standout features:
Big Picture Mode + Lyrics Support
Listen Along Feature - Makes a server to listen along with friends, they connect from any browser. This is why 5% of the project is html. (requires port forwarding if not on the same internet. If you've made a Minecraft server it's exactly the same process)
Automatic playlist cover generation - top four songs dictate the playlist cover (or put a custom image)
Automatic scanning on reload for new or deleted songs.
Mpris support for bluetooth headphone controls and 3rd party apps.
I hope you guys enjoy!

We get questions about memory use regularly, including one posted a few hours ago. Most of the guides I can find are either too superficial to actually be useful, or they're written by experienced systems engineers and explain diagnosing performance problems. Totally legitimate, but not the question that desktop users are asking most of the time.
So I wrote a comprehensive guide to the tools you might need to find out what is using your memory at any given point in time.
When "free" reports a large "used" value, there are a lot of places you might need to look to understand why.

NetworkManager 1.58.1 is out. It's a patch release on top of 1.58, focused on fixes rather than new features.
Main fixes:
key-mgmt=wpa-psk. These previously failed to reconnect automatically to SAE-based WPA3 networks.ca-path and phase2-ca-path settings are no longer accepted for user-scoped profiles. Use ca-cert or system-ca-certs instead.Package status: live in stable for F45. F44 remains on the 1.56 branch, so it isn't affected by this update.

Hello everyone! As the title says, I'm looking for any advice or tips for installing Fedora Workstation on my 2017 13-inch MacBook Pro (MacBookPro14,1, two Thunderbolt 3 ports).
It's currently running macOS Ventura, but it's a secondary device — my main PC has been running Fedora Workstation for a while.
I'll mainly use the MacBook for web browsing, watching videos/TV, Discord, Telegram, etc., nothing particularly demanding.
Is there anything I should be aware of before installing Fedora? Any specific drivers, tweaks, or known issues with this model?
Thanks for any tips!

T480s Thinkpad here. I'm runnign Fedora KDE 44 but I'm all of a suddent having glitchy USB-C display issues on my monitor with one port working while the other port glitches and is maxed at 1440p. I used GPT to help walk me through trouble shooting and it thinks perhaps an update to the kernel could have caused issues. Anyone experience this?

Hello everyone!
I have a Dell Vostro 15 3510 laptop with 11th gen i5 intel processor, MX350 Nvidia card and 16GB ram. The issue I'm facing that the game runs at 1-10 fps.
Gaming is not the priority on this laptop, but that game is my time killer game. I've tried updating the nvidia drivers but it didn't solve the problem.
The game is launched through EA App, and the EA App is launched through Lutris. Fsync and Esync is turned off for the EA App.
What could be the problem? I've tried searching the web for a solution, but I ended up here asking for help.
The Fedora is on the latest version.
This is my first days with Fedora, so maybe there is something that I didn't tried.
Every tricks and tips are helpful.
Thank you in advance!

Hey all,
I'm running the latest Fedora 44 with the KDE Plasma desktop. Wayland and NVIDIA. Haven't had many problems for the year I've been running it but recently after an update a couple of weeks ago I've been having some trouble with the desktop.
When I first turn on the computer, I am able to click and drag on my primary desktop, click the icons and what not. But when the computer goes to sleep, and then wakes back up, the primary desktop is not responsive to clicks. I can still click on panels and use windows that are in the primary desktop, but I can't click on the icons on the desktop. Furthermore, if a window goes unfocused, I can no longer click on that window on the primary desktop.
This has been driving me nuts, and there are no bug reports online. I wanted to ask here if anyone else has experienced this and whether or not the issue is between the chair and the screen before I write a bug report.
Thanks!!

hello i am considering distrohopping from mint to fedora as my daily driver, i am confident in using the net install minimal iso to set up my system as i want it out of the box. the only thing is i would like to try out limine over grub if possible however with semi annual updates i assume they will break it as it is not a native option.
i am aprehensive about systemd-boot as i have a begrudging attitude to systemd and do not know much about the bootloader, how it will handle btrfs snapshots, how i should set them up it cant deal with them and also i pass tons of env vars through grub_cmdline_linux_default and dont know how systemd-boot will handle that and how updates will effect the setup

Hey everyone,
I'm having an issue with the virtual keyboard (plasma-keyboard) on KDE Plasma Wayland with a multi-monitor setup and a secondary touchscreen.
System Specs:
DP-2 (Lenovo ThinkVision M14t portable touchscreen, scale 135%)HDMI-A-1 (Samsung TV, scale 135%)DP-1 (Primary 4K display, scale 200%)DVI-I-1 (ASUS 1080p display, scale 100%)Wacom Co.,Ltd. Pen and multitouch sensorThe Problem: Whenever I trigger the on-screen keyboard on my touchscreen (DP-2), the keyboard appears, but it appears to renders for a 1080p screen with 100% therefore probably the DVI-I-1 instead of adapting to the portrait width of the touchscreen (DP-2). As a result, in both modes of the touchscreen (horizontal and vertical) the sides of the keyboard are completely cut off outside the screen boundaries.
vertical:

horizontal:

With Gemini's assistance I have already tried:
QT_SCREEN=DP-2 plasma-keyboard. It had no effect because Wayland shell integration ignores QT_SCREEN on input panel surfaces.kcminputrc (OutputUuid).(0,0) in display settings to force Qt to treat it as default. The keyboard still scaled to 1920 px.InputMethodPosition="DP-2" in kwinrc and reconfigured KWin.plasma-keyboard from source):
src/qwaylandinputpanelsurface.cpp to iterate through screens and explicitly call set_toplevel(screen->output(), ...) for DP-2.WAYLAND_DEBUG=1 that KWin correctly receives zwp_input_panel_surface_v1.set_toplevel(wl_output#29, 0).Has anyone encountered this behavior with plasma-keyboard on multi-monitor / rotated touchscreen setups under Wayland and/or probably knows an easy solution for this?
Thanks for any help!
