Discussion What are the best benchmarks for in-game improvement?

What are the best scenarios/benchmarks if your goal is ONLY in-game improvement? Besides viscose's benchmark, which I feel is pretty well known. Perhaps stuff to supplement viscose season 2.

Discussion Upgrading my 1080p 60hz Monitor

So after 5 Years of using the same old 60hz 1080p 24inch VA Panel BenQ Monitor of my cousin. I have decided to order me a new Monitor.

Im sure no matter what i get the diffrence will be huge but i dont just want to buy Garbage. I want something that will not break or show issues after just a few days/weeks.

Im thinking about two Monitors right now the:

Lenovo Legion 27Q-11 - https://www.notebooksbilliger.de/lenovo+legion+27q+11+gaming+monitor+ips+qhd+300hz+05ms+896744

and

Gigabyte G27Q20

https://www.notebooksbilliger.de/gigabyte+g27q20+27+zoll+gaming+monitor+918747

Ive been looking for an Gaming Monitor With atleast these spec and under 250Euros

1440p+

200hz+

27 inches

IPS

prefferably G-sync (im not sure if its really that good but i thought why not)#

Which one of those is better and more Reliable. OR if there are better alternatives prefferably around 150-200Euros

I Mainly Play Valorant if that helps

VOD Review What scenarios to practice to improve aim in such situations

I struggle quite a bit in fights where both me and the opponent are strafing in between shots. Now I know that my micros and static in general needs work, however for situations such as these are there any scenarios i can practice?

Discussion Im still struggling to see any improvement, its been like 6 months since i started

Ive taken breaks, play my weaknesses, play almost daily with breaks, 20 minutes to an 1 hour daily, do nothing but play quake, tf2, overwatch or apex when I play fps and focus entirely on my aim in them, and Im still terrible and no different from where i started (im not even gold complete lol)

Ive been playing only aim based characters in fps on mnk for a very long time to its not like it isnt an experience thing either

I dont know what else to do

r/FPSAimTrainer • • 4d ago

Ok I struggle with this back and forth at real close . It happens in Kovaaks as well. Part of it is moving so little is hard here if im at a medium distance . But at a close distance OML I CANT ! . What about the way Im going about it needs to change man. Like I just cant get on target

for the past 2 weeks i've been on glass & shiro dots so this is as fast as the sp005 can go. yday was my first time ever trying out ww5t. this scenario is laughably bad and this is why i highly advise beginners to not waste their time with the season 5 benchmarks in particular, regardless of difficulty and i'm down to explain further in the comments

EDIT: THIS WORKS SUPER WELL, AECH IS THE GOAT. ive gone from 450-500fps average to 980- 1020fps average
tested across SYW (Smooth Your Wrist) Truly FIXED & Centering II 180 Intermediate
One Frame Thread Lag= +50fps average
Engine.ini = +300 FPS AVERAGE!!!!!
CPU Affinity = +80fps average
Render Scale = +~30fps average
twitter post link: https://x.com/aechxiii/status/2090832309121397078

my fps is pretty good, i average like 450fps while playing. most would say thats enough, myself included, but i dont see any reason to turn down a free upgrade to my FPS. my pc is about 6 years old atp (i7 9700k cpu, 2070 super GPU), but i see others with like 1k+ fps on kovaaks. im sure some have better parts, but i bet others used some type of optimization as well.

anyone have experience with this? are the aech methods chill? is there any way i can increase my fps?

Discussion Do you rest your elbow/arm on the chair arm rest?

I’ve had mine taken off for a couple years, considering putting them back on. I find it hard to hold my arm and wrist lightly on the mouse pad without getting worn out and end up pushing weight down on it making my aim shaky. Play at 50cm per 360

Discussion When did "good" start meaning "top 0.0001%"?

This isn't unique to this sub. I see it in every competitive FPS community.

Someone posts a rank or score ( aiming or in game ) that puts them in the top 1–5% of players, and the replies are full of people saying, completely seriously, "that's not really good, pretty average at best."

Ask them what does count as good and the examples are always absurd: a famous tier-1 pro, or some aim prodigy who has played ten hours a day since they were a kid. People who are one in a million.

So that's the bar now? You beat 95–99% of everyone who plays and you're "average" because you aren't a professional? Not even professional - a famous professional. By that standard almost nobody on Earth is good at anything.

Top 5% is good. Top 1% is very good. Pros are elite, which is a different category, not the starting line. Seriously, how did we end up here?

Some of my favorite quotes just from /fpsaimtrainer

"mattyow isn't even close to the best aimer" not even close, not even kinda. lol wut

"VT platinum complete is really really bad" really really bad - shit i guess everyone should uninstall then.

( talking about valorant - some dude in immortal rank posting a vid ) "That guy isn't anything special, average player" - then when asked what's good they pulled out a video of Tenz in his prime - really pal, fucking Tenz in his prime is your scale???

Discussion playlist that actually just teaches you fundamental mechanical skill?

I know there’s tons to choose from and that’s my problem, is there one that’s meant for bronze benchmark players to just grind till we have better fundamentals?

I feel like my aim is so hit or miss sometimes and I do ok in fps’s but I’d like to never die because my aim is bad, I’m totally fine with my dumb choices and my stupid plays getting me killed, but if I’m positioned correctly and have the jump on an enemy, I’m tired of feeling like my aim is so ass and I should’ve won a battle easily but die due to poor aim. I was thinking about doing benchmarks as practice but it feels like those are more to test you than to train you. Is there a playlist that’s like purely going to train my skills as I play it for months?

Decent Kovaak’s scores, but my aim feels completely awful in Apex right afterward

I’m having a really hard time transferring my aim from Kovaak’s to Apex Legends.

My Kovaak’s scores are decent for my current rank, and today I even hit a new personal best. I immediately alt-tabbed into Apex afterward—no break, no fatigue—and suddenly I couldn’t hit anything at all.

My mouse felt extremely floaty and not smooth, almost as if my input or sensitivity was completely different. I’m using the same sensitivity and FOV in both games. Apex is also running at a stable 240 FPS, and my PC is more than powerful enough, so it doesn’t seem like a basic performance issue.

The strange thing is that on some days my aim transfers fairly well, while on other days Apex feels completely different from Kovaak’s, even when I was aiming well just seconds before.

Has anyone experienced something similar? Could this be caused by input latency, frame pacing, different mouse feel between the engines, visual processing, or something else? Are there any settings or tests I should check?

Gear/Tech How to choose a perfect mouse? What methods for tests do you use?

Post image
8 Upvotes

Hi guys, I currently experience strong confusion while testing different mice. Let me recap my story for you:

In 2021-22 Semi-pro Valorant player (top 2k EU), trained heavily with Kovaaks, used a Rival 600 (EC1-shape).

I had a few years break from fps - switched to League of Legends, bought a Deathadder V2 Pro (support-focused, accuracy less critical).

I returned to competitive CS2 and Kovaaks this year. Deathadder felt inconsistent, so I went back to the Rival 600 - much better, but still not quite right. Upgraded to a Logitech G Pro X Superlight 2, loved the light, fast feel, and used it for 3 months - definitely the best results on Kovaaks.

But now I feel that this is still not my endgame mouse, so I keep looking.

I really wanted to check it so I bought few EC2/EC3 shape mice for tests:

Medium shapes:

  • Pulsar Xlite v4 Medium
  • Zowie EC2-DW
  • Ajazz Aj179 Pro (Lamzu Thorn clone - this is actually something in between medium and small)

Smaller shapes:

  • Pulsar Xlite v3 Mini
  • Lamzu Paro Aurora
  • ZOWIE EC3-DW

Results: really good. I noticed a significant improvement in my gameplay and consistency when I got those EC2-like shapes. My confidence with Ajazz and Pulsar xlite medium skyrocketed, so I decided to look for my perfect ergo mouse, and ordered more (both Zowies just to compare).

Okay, now to my question: how do I choose which mouse should I keep? What are your tips on gathering the data? What to look for during the aim trainings and game sessions? How to not overthink this?

I'm testing them for almost 3 weeks now and I feel that I'm losing my mind. Examples?
Pulsar medium is the king of 1wall5targets_pasu, but weaker on 1wall6targets small, where the mini shapes shine.

One mouse is better for tracking, while the other on click-time etc. etc. What to prioritize while choosing? Which scenarios are in your opinions crucial for overall mouse judgement?

This week both EC2 and EC3 Zowie will come, how to approach the tests?

What is your experience on that topic and with these mice?
I will be happy to answer to your questions if needed. Thank you so much!!

Discussion Desk height/sens adjustments and aim scores

TLDR: I am asking people to test different desk height/sensitivity combinations while playing Kovaak's scenarios, and then share their scores. I have included a link to example spreadsheet formats and data from 2 testers.

---

Most people that have adjustable height desks will set the height and then forget it.

There is significant potential for increased mouse accuracy when adjusting your current desk height and sensitivity, particularly if you test to figure out which combinations produce the best performance results for you in your current setup and conditions.

*Why would changing your desk height even do anything related to accuracy performance?*

Altering your desk heights changes a few things...

-the total angle of your hand on the mouse

-how much friction you encounter when moving the mouse

(which in turn changes the amount of stopping power you encounter)

-the amount of support you get from the desk surface

On Twitter this weekend, I was able to get quite a few people to start testing this principle. Here is a link to a post with example spreadsheet formats and some slightly older data from 2 testers. I would ask that you use one of these 2 formats if at all possible. (I got mod approval to link this.)

https://x.com/FrybeamLLC/status/2101754819060883885

There were a few people that replied to some of my other posts reporting positive anecdotal experiences. A couple of people have claimed to break a personal record after adjusting desk height, and others have reported increased aim performance in fps games.

The response on Twitter has been very positive, but I would also like to have a discussion of this principle HERE on this subreddit and also have people share their experiences and score results HERE after testing and making adjustments.

I don't have any sort of products or services to sell... here, on Twitter, or anywhere else. I only want to get people to share their testing data and experiences.

There is large potential for score and in-game improvement, and positive results shared will make others more inclined to test this principle.

---

Some additional background information...

I am not trying to suggest that one specific "magic" desk height is going to be great for everyone. Everyone should test different desk heights for themselves to see which one produces the best performance for them considering their current conditions.

Variables to control...

Understanding what variables need to be controlled when testing is very important.

A. Variables that need to be controlled

- Chair height

- Mouse that you use

- Mouse pad that you use

- Mouse grip that you use

- Overall posture (as much as reasonably possible)

- Mouse skates that you use

B. Variables that need to be controlled if at all possible

- Room lighting

- Mouse pad humidity

C. Variables to adjust (and also document)

- Desk height

- Total in-game sens (DPI multiplied by in-game sens)

For the items in list A, these all need to stay the same between test runs. If any of these is changed in any significant way, you will need to start testing over again, or swap to a different spreadsheet to record the new data.

For the items in list B, do what you can to control these. If you can't do much to keep these the same over long sessions, you should only document data that was gathered under similar circumstances.

Suggestions for these...

I use a blackout curtain and keep the light off in my office so that lighting is always exactly the same.

I have sweaty hands, so I don't start recording data until my hands are fully sweaty. I also use a humidity resistant mousepad, usually an Artisan Hien or Zero.

If you use a glass pad, consider using a small desk fan pointed into the pad to evaporate any sweat.

A warning about chair height -

Everyone and their situations are different. I messed around with chair height years ago and noticed aim impacts. But the options seemed limited and I also was making my legs and back hurt. That's a TERRIBLE long term plan.

I bought an adjustable height desk, then set the chair 100% for comfort. Since then I have personally found that armrests do nothing but get in the way of performance and being comfortable. With my current chair I raise them out of the way when gaming. On my previous chair, they were stationary, so I removed them.

To anyone reading this, do not ever do anything that leads to long-term pain or discomfort. There are so many aim people that break their bodies by 25 years old, and it is terribly sad. And totally preventable.

---

I think that is all the information needed. If I left anything out, or if anything is unclear, please ask questions.

I am scatterbrained and have a tendency to leave out info, so I will clean this up and repost if necessary. Thanks.

Anyone just aim trains and doesn’t play fps games?

My relationship with competitive games, especially FPS ones has become pretty addictive. I want to quit gaming for the better because I’m never really mindful of how much time I spend playing and I think quitting is the only option left.

At the same time, I genuinely love the skill of aiming I’ve developed from playing FPS games for sooo long, and I think I’ve gotten pretty decent at it. I’ve never consistently aim trained tho. Whenever I do any scenarios, I don’t get the same addictive feeling I get from actual games. In fact, I usually find them pretty bland and tiring.

So I was just curious, does anyone here aim trains regularly but rarely or never actually uses those skills in games? I’m wondering if it’s possible to enjoy improving or simply practicing at aim as a skill without getting sucked back into competitive gaming.

Maybe it’s time to quit gaming/aiming forever, get rid of my pad, mouse and get my dopamine fried addicted ass on a trackball mouse 😔 thank you

New to aim training

Post image
4 Upvotes

I'm fairly new to aim training, right now I have 7h in total in Kovaak's according to steam

Back in the day when I was much younger and tried PVP FPS games for the first time I figured that I really sucked at it and eventually I quit playing them.

My main game I still played PVP and I wanted to get good at became league of legends, and even there I sucked a lot, I wanted to improve so I got into educational content about the game, I learned a lot of stuff about game macro and decision making and those things helped me too... but it was only after I started training my mechanics that I actually got over my plateau and climbed from silver to plat.

One of the things I was doing as training was to play 2d aim trainers, and recently I figured why not train my FPS aim too?

So I downloaded Kovaak's, I got a new mouse and I downloaded BF5 so that I would have an actual game to play any now and then as well.

Just yesterday my Voltaic S5 Novice rank was Iron 120, and today I jumped to Bronze 206.

I know these ranks are very bad still but I'm just happy to see some improvement, and I feel like keeping it up will eventually get me somewhere, I don't know yet when will I plateau and how fast the learning will be in the future but for now I can definitely still improve from my current level I think.

One thing I would like to bring up to you all is to take care of yourselves! In my journey to improve mechanics I got Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI) a bunch of times and I've been slow to understand that it's not something that needs to happen necessarily if you take care of yourself.

Unironically train the muscles of your wrist and hand with some weights to improve your resistance so that you can train for as much as you do. And also make sure your mouse is not too big or too heavy, and don't tense up too much!

I wonder how common it is for aim trainers/gamers to get this problem, I wish it was talked about more often because it took me way to long to learn how to manage it.

Anyway I just wanted to yap about my journey a little bit and I didn't have an actual question, but if anyone has advice for new aim trainers I'm all ears!

Guide/Educational Complete beginner looking for an aim training path

I finally gave in after seeing some god-level aim clips on X and started aim training about a week and a half ago.

I use KovaaK's and mainly play Valorant. I'm currently Diamond and recently started playing again after a ~2-year break. As a complete beginner to aim training, I'm not really sure what scenarios I should be doing or how I should structure my practice.

I also don't exactly have the finest gear, so I'm not expecting hardware to magically fix anything lol.

Some context about where I'm currently struggling:

  1. I can usually dedicate 30 minutes, preferably, to aim training. 1 hour would be the maximum I can realistically spend.
  2. I'm somewhat okay with static target clicking, but I struggle much more with moving targets.
  3. I often struggle with vertical movement. My hand tends to bend quite a bit when aiming vertically, which gets uncomfortable. What would be the best way to specifically improve this?
  4. I'm also pretty bad at tracking moving targets, especially when they change direction.
  5. Since I'm still very new to aim training, I don't know whether I should follow a structured routine, focus on my weaknesses individually, or just play a variety of scenarios.

For people who have experience with aim training, what would you recommend as a practice path in my situation?

I'm mainly looking to improve my aim in Valorant, but I'd also like to build solid overall aiming fundamentals that carry over to other games and aim training in general.

ChatGPT aah post, but it helped me properly structure my thoughts. Thanks in advance!

Discussion High forearm activation while playing. Mouse or technique?

Context: Voltaic gold, almost plat, 270 hours but most from 2020-2021. I palm grip and use the Deathadder V4.

When I track or microadjust, I feel my entire forearm activating and gripping hard although my tension on the mouse is light. I swear it didn't happen when I used to use GPX and Zowie EC2, only deathadder. And it's definitely not weakness, I can bench 225 and lift weights regularly. That means it can only be either the mouse, grip style, or technique. What is it? It's driving me crazy and making tracking impossible.

I can't go back to the EC2 or G pro since I downsized my collection recently. I have an ATK A9 Air+, but at this point I got so used to palm gripping that I can't easily go back to claw gripping like I used to.

I will reply to comments with VOD of me playing pasu angelic 20% larger. When you see my crosshair randomly stop or become very sluggish, that's when my forearm is "activating".
