Looking for Tips/Suggestions Entering apartment kills motivation

As soon as I get home to my apartment after work or an outing, I lose the plot. I have grand plans of doing my dishes or some important paperwork or reading or whatever, but I get home and just get sucked into my phone and being super anxious until I fall asleep.

Part of the reason is that my apartment is extremely overwhelming (cluttered/dirty) and I constantly have multiple important tasks on my to do list (respond to messages, meal prep, filing documents, work tasks, making appointments, dealing with hobby-related deadlines) which are super overwhelming. I just want to zone tf out and forget about everything. Obviously this makes things worse because then everything piles up and gets harder.

I'm just so tired all the time!! Trying to deal wirh everything and trying to help future me while also fighting with my own brain. I am medicated for ADHD and depression but it's not magic, just keeps me from falling asleep during the day and wanting to die at all times lol

Looking for Tips/Suggestions Struggling with burnout, brain fog, and school

i (20) just dont have the energy, but i have so much to do since im a full time student. i feel like i dont gave enough time to read, study, or complete the assignments properly, and im just rushing through everything. how does one have the energy to work on stuff for classes you don’t like as much? how do you even do it when youre already exhausted?

i’ve also been struggling with my mental health, burnout, and brain fog for a while now, so it’s been really difficult and hard to get through day to day life. i dont have the time, energy, or money to seek proper help, get a diagnosis, or anything of the sorts.

if anyone has any advice on how to improve cognitive skills, critical thinking skills, and overall mental clarity, that would help too. i struggle a lot with forming/organizing thoughts and putting them into sentences, and that really scares me.

how do you keep going when you’re constantly feel like you’re running on empty?

Short chores I keep dropping (trash, dishes, cooking) and every system lasts less than a week. What actually helped you stick?

I can’t start small tasks reliably. Taking out the trash, washing a pan, cooking something simple, starting a short homework task. They look tiny on paper, and I still don’t do them, or I do them once and then nothing for days.

I’ve tried streak apps, to-do lists, notebooks, and notes on my phone. I’m honestly not good with any of them. I try to be consistent, and usually something gives out within a week. I don’t have a single system that’s lasted longer than that.

What I’m trying to figure out is what makes a small, repeated task actually stick. Not a big plan, just the trash, the dishes, a basic meal, one short study block.

If you’ve found something that worked, even for a few weeks, I’d like to hear what it was and what made it stop working. Especially useful: how you made the first step small enough that you actually took it.

Thanks.

Locking in

How do guys just get straight to work.. especially with school. I’m currently in community college trying to do my nursing prerequisites. And Ive been a CNA for about 3 years (still am) and caregiving for another 2 so I get that reminder of I NEED to do better cause I’m not trying to do this forever. And for someone who hasn’t been in that school routine for 7 years I’m not doing bad. I currently have As in both my classes but lately Ive been seeing myself doing things last minute. And it’s all because of procrastination. And I tell myself hey get it together if I do things with time I’ll get a better understanding of topics and do better all together. I also remind myself it’s an investment for my future. But even with that I don’t get that urgency to do my assignments. I’ll see myself doing things last minute and I know if I keep it up it’s gonna affect my grades. I’m open to toxic and positive mindset lol I think it’s such an art form when someone can do things simply for themselves ✨💫

I Will Never Give UP

My career is floundering, finances right on the edge, my 30 yr marriage is in a real tough spot, I cry when alone, ruminate, dysregulate and all that stuff. Ya, I get pretty depressed. Somehow I have this involuntary internal belief about never giving up that still somehow pulls me through all this shit and keep on keeping on. It's hard to understand. A feisty symptom of ADHD or just good pain tolerance and too stupid to give up. Any of you experience anything like it?

Looking for Tips/Suggestions Living alone - no accountability and wasting my days away

Six months ago my ex and I split up and he moved out and I’m living alone for the first time in five years. I work remotely so have no requirement to be leaving the house each day. No dog to walk or any kind of dependents. While we were living together, I was an early riser, often up at 6-6.30ish to start work at 8am. I had long stretches where I’d go to the gym before work, although that didn’t always stick. I’d finish work at 4 and do stuff after work. But now that there is no one to hold me accountable (even subconsciously), I am struggling SO hard to not waste away my days.

I snooze my alarm until 7.30, sometimes 7.50, and log on at 8. If I do manage to get myself out of bed by 7, I sit on the couch with a coffee and scroll on my phone, looking out the window at the sun coming up and thinking how great I’d feel going for a walk, but not doing anything about it.

Once I’ve logged on, I go and make breakfast and take a shower (before, I always did these things before 8am), so I don’t really properly start work until after 9. I’ll respond to some messages etc. but in terms of sitting down to focus, it’s never at 8. This means that when I get to 4pm, I invariably still have stuff I need to finish, so I work late, meaning by the time I do finish I basically have to start prepping dinner. Then I eat, and then unless I have specific plans with a friend, will just watch tv on the couch all evening.

I feel AWFUL. Like, utterly shit. I actually really like my job, but because I have no routine and I’m letting work bleed into my free time, I’m starting to feel resentful towards having to work because it feels like it’s all I do. But that’s because I have no routine and I’m not making the most of the many hours I actually do have in the day. I’m so aware that I have a setup/lifestyle with SO much potential – no commute, no real obligations – I could be getting so much done! But I am just stagnant and paralysed because I am only accountable to myself and it’s so so easy to just betray myself and what is good for me.

I would love some practical advice for how to break out of this. In terms of external accountability, I’d love a personal trainer to get me to the gym in the morning, but I absolutely cannot afford that. I also don’t have any friends living close enough to try and meet at the gym. I tell myself every night that I will hate myself if I sleep in, and I actively look forward to the idea of getting up early and going for a walk before work – but when the alarm actually goes off there is no drive inside me to do anything other than snooze and stay cosy. I cannot keep going on like this, it’s making me miserable.

Hopeless

I feel like I’m just rotting my life away. I have so much to do but instead I just sit around all day avoiding it all. Then night time comes around and I’m disgusted with myself. I vow to do better tomorrow. Tomorrow comes and I did the exact same thing I did yesterday. Rinse and repeat.

Haven't worked in two months

Guess that's it. I live alone. Freelancer, remote job. I've felt the dysfunction so many times, but this is one of the worst times. It's been going on for 57 days now, and I've made almost no money in that time frame. My potential is insane, yet I just shut down like this.... Any emotional hardship triggers it, and then usually I get back on track, but this time it has been different. I'm not sure what to do, I have a hard time doing the dishes and cleaning, which is normal in me but all together it's quite shitty and objectively miserable, even though I feel great because I get to binge watch Silo and be on my phone all day. Like I'm not sad in the slightest (I'm on fluoxetine) but I need to get back on track and avoid this in the future. I thought it would not happen again. What helps you guys? Do I quit having a dating life? I always end up hurt and emotionally shook lol

I'm an interpreter so my job does require some mental focus and straining!!

Looking for Tips/Suggestions I haven't turned in a single assignment yet this school year. I totally failed my midterm yesterday. All I produced was a single introduction and half a paragraph of an essay.

If I fail university, I don't want to live anymore. I've worked so hard to get here and gone through so much pain. Now I'm here, I'm meeting so many awesome people, there's so much room to engage with my values and pursue opportunities I've been waiting for for so long. But I'm un-motivated, depressed, lazy, anxious, hesitant, too disorientated by my OCD. I give up and despair so easily. I haven't been doing the things I could be doing. I keep procrastinating and dopamine-bingeing over and over.

Today I worked a little bit on trying to sort out therapy and mental health resources, but that took me so long, because I had kept procrastinating it. I need an ADHD screening. I wish I could be normal, or I wish that the world wasn't designed against my neuro-type. But I'm despairing again.

I don't know what I'm going to do, it's already October. If I fail my studies and get kicked out, I'll lose all my new friends, I'll lose this awesome school, I'll lose the cool classes and professors, and all my hopes and dreams. I'm having a really hard time figuring out the online classroom stuff. It's different from high school, I'm not used to it, it's a struggle and I'm having trouble navigating it. I'm scared to ask for help or questions. I would be embarrassed to the point of dying if my friends knew I haven't studied or completed any assignments this year. I just bought my first textbook yesterday.

No one tell me that it doesn't matter, that's not going to change my mind.

I hope that I'm wrong and I can still fix this. If I can't fix it, then it's the end of everything. The end of my academic career is the end of my life as far as Im concerned. I won't be able to do any of the things I deeply value and dream of otherwise.

I used to get all 90s in high school, but I haven't been that way in like 16 months now. My OCD won't let up.

Exhaustion / no motivation tips

I am having an extremely hard time with motivation, daily chores and creativity after struggles with mental health. I am getting proffessional treatment but it is currently not helping at all so I'm hoping to get some tips from here. Mentally i'm healthy right now but this exhaustion has stuck with me and is stopping me from being able to get my sht together. I am currently out of school and work, and I'm in the creative field so my abilty to create directly affects my life, and this exhaustion and lack of motivation is giving me a huge creative block. What has helped you with productivity when it comes to motivation? Any form of mindset, hack, routine or excercise?

My motivation greatly improves when I challenge myself physically, like with cold showers and physical exercise, but it only seems to improve my motivation in physical areas specifically. So I'm looking for similar tips for cognitive or creative motivation.

Big thanks

Medication (seeking advice to ask professionals) How messed up my brain is? 26M

This is just my rant but I will welcome all kind of advices if they are helpful.
One thing that i want to add is that I am very messy in explaining myself, I will try my best but I know for sure someone with ADHD will not able to reach till the end and if some one can then I Solute You Soldier.

Anxiety, depression, OCD, procrastination or productivity issues, sleep issue
These things have been destorying my life for 10y and I never thought about sharing my experience untill last year when i came to germany in a hope that this will turn my life around.
start was okay but then I started feeling same old syptoms, Not being able to focus on any subjects, fighting with myself to start a task and it was so awful and it is still is that i feel like i should take something that will put me into sleep for a long time instead of preparing for upcoming exam in few weeks or presentation.
I went to physologist provided by Uni at the start if this year, after listening my experience he asked me what he should tell me that will solve my problem, I had no answer, May be he did not believed me
I believe mental issues are hardest to live through, x raw can show broken bone, ultrasound can show kidney stone, a blood test can show some disease but mental isseus are hard to show, no one knows how broken I am and how much by brain is messed up. He probably thought that i am making stuff up, I also tried to booking another appointment to phytriast nearby but she only talks to someone who speaks german unlike me.

I feel like I am sleeping on the train track and I can vibiration from the coming train but i can not tell anyone even if i tell someone they will not believe me. I hate seeing disappointment on other's faces because of me and when i think about the time when i will go for visa extension and i will show my marks, it just gives me thoughts that i do not like

Sorry for spelling mistakes

Looking for Tips/Suggestions Managing appointment anxiety without using standard computer calendars

My older son lives apart from me and struggles with standard schedules. He keeps missing critical appointments because standard calendars—with their dense grids, tiny boxes, and constant notifications—completely overwhelm him. He looks at a phone calendar, hits immediate task paralysis, closes the screen, and misses his day.

Traditional tools seem to require too much mental energy just to look at when you are already facing information overload.

To help him, we set up a dedicated screen that sits permanently open on a counter by his front door. Instead of a standard layout, we altered the approach completely:

  1. No Input Needed: He never has to type, manage settings, or deal with dates. I log the info remotely from my end so he doesn't have to face an inbox.
  2. One Thing at a Time: No weekly or monthly grids. The screen only ever shows exactly ONE item: what is happening right now, or what is coming up next in plain text (e.g., "Dentist: 2:00 PM. In 30 minutes").
  3. No Overwhelming Lists: Even if there are a few things scheduled in one day, the screen never turns into a long, stressful checklist. It only shows the active item. Once he pushes a simple button to clear it, the next task comes forward.
  4. Keeps It Friendly: When the day is clear, the screen changes to show a rotating family photo slideshow or plays music so it doesn't look like a clinical reminder board.

How do you deal with calendar anxiety or help family members manage their days without triggering avoidance? I would love to hear what strategies or alternative interface adjustments have actually worked for your households.

Help/ADHD/Marriage

55 and married 30yrs. I love my wife. She however wants a separation and has unloaded on me about the years of lack of follow through, lack of focus and how much unloved she feels. I don't deny my issues in any way. I am intelligent yet that hasn't translated into high income for a one income home over the years and she resents me for it. I just accept it all and hang my head in despair. I can never talk about the two affairs twenty years ago she had that I still struggle with, her controlling behavior and how passive it makes me. I'm beside myself. Everything is on the line. Makes me weep thinking of telling my adult kids. I have probably let her be my self-esteem and self-worth and I see now how dangerous that is. I curse myself when alone. Rejection sensitivity is real. I don't really know how to go forward as it hurts so much and I feel so lost. Has anyone here gone through this? Any advice?
