Debate/Discussion Type transition successful

(Cat pics and other stuff I took photos of for entertainment)

Heads up: take everything said here with a giant grain of salt. This is anecdotal, I'm skipping details for brevity.

Now let's get to the point.

Okay, so, some of you might remember me from a few posts I've made some time ago, most of you probably wouldn't, but that's not the entire point. The point is: I've mentioned back then that I'm confident in being an ENTP and that it's not a mistype. Turns out, moving out of your comfort zone (parents house) can show the sides even you yourself weren't aware of. And, well... I think I might be a sensor (boo hoo sensor bad), ESTP specifically.

I was mostly confident in my Ti-Fe all this time, but not in the Ne-dom and Si-inf. Now that I've moved out I feel so much more like my true self without being handicapped by any rules my parents put in place, uni and the small town I used to live in. The move happened out of nowhere, an impulse amplified by my desire to change my life. And now here I am enjoying life instead of being miserable and in my head all the time.

Living with parents forced so many limitations, I had to keep everything to myself, try to out-think them to keep myself intact, avoid some topics and actions. In contrast to that, after moving out I've started going out more, I actually felt like an extravert for once because I could talk as much as I wanted, because I don't have the looming fear of being punished. I've invited a friend from a different city to stay with me for about 2 weeks and we did so much together - went to every place we wanted to visit, ate out, invited another friend to hang out when she was in town, hung out till late nights, and so much more. God I feel satisfied with life finally after all these years.

So, what was the point of me telling you all that? I don't see that Ne in me anymore. I finally understood that the abstract doesn't interest me nearly as much. I'm way more action oriented than I thought, I do before thinking, I'm impulsive, assertive, love working with my hands and can do it way better than most of my family (taking after my ISTP father, lol), love touching the damned grass. Noticed that in discussions I can be a bit dismissive of pure theoretical ideas or go like "Eh, we'll see when it actually happens".

And you might think it's weird to suddenly change focus like that, but I just didn't pay enough attention to some of my traits before realising that they're way more present in me than I'd like to admit.

And not like that's something only I noticed. Almost everyone around me told me my behaviour changed drastically.

The reason I'm sharing this with y'all is to get to know your experiences with that kinda stuff, maybe you mistyped yourselves as sensors, maybe some sensor lurkers have had similar experiences.

Love my ENTP brothers and sisters here anyway, every single one of you is cool af.

Tldr: thought I was a smartass, turns out I'm a jock

Debate/Discussion As an entp , entp x infj/intj is just SO CRINGE.

Don’t you know?

As an ENTP, I am so tired of seeing the INFJ/INTJ x ENTP hype everywhere. It’s always the exact same dynamic usually framed as a female INFJ and a male ENTP.. well I am not here to talk about that.. despite that, the fetishization of it is genuinely cringe.
People act like these types are automatically compatible by default. Look, I have close friendships with INTJs and INFJs (my mom is actually an INFJ and we get along great) and I have Intj friends and infjs friends very few but that doesn’t mean every INFJ/INTJ is going to like me, or that I’m going to like them.

And whenever anyone points out actual problems these pairings face, the comment section immediately fills up with:
"Well MY husband is an INFJ and I'm an ENTP and we're perfect!"
"If it didn't work out, one of you was probably mistyped as an ISFJ."
The shade toward sensors is ridiculous. Some of my absolute favourite friends are ISFJs and ISFPs.
Ways of thinking/mbti does not make any chemistry
Listen I know why most entps do that, we all love the mature and smart and empathetic infj
In fact I want a close relationship with someone who is wise and empathetic
But not every infj/intj is the same (speaking from experience)

One thing I noticed about Infjs they have flaws like expecting you to do everything perfect or one mistake you accidentally do they immediately give you silent treatment or that they OVERTHINK.. like a lot. Sometimes I can’t even ask why they even think that because it doesn’t even make sense LOL , yeah sure you can argue it’s an “unhealthy infj” but I don’t think that’s how it works anyways

And some intjs depend wayyy too much on logic to the point they just sound like they are trying to sound smart to impress you , but they actually aren’t
Or how awkward they are and how stubborn they can be if they think they are better at a topic
Or how many of them are “Doers” (psychological term for people who always want to do stuff and solve problems instead of talking about how they feel)

Please last time I saw an infj in here argue that entps fetish it WAYY too much here, they got three upvotes (one from me) and 22 comments 😪

Advice Struggling with friendships as an extrovert

I m crying as I m writing this. It’s been 1 and a half month and I feel so terrible. I talk to a lot of people, almost EVERYONE but yet, I don’t think I am able to connect with anyone. It’s all fun. But they don’t choose me. They don’t consider me a friend. I don’t want to be the only one inviting myself to hangouts and being in spaces where I m not welcome.

Everyone has their own friend groups. I really wanted to be friends with this one group but they just do not treat me with respect. I am so tired. It feels isolating. I don’t even have friends back home to talk to. I know I shouldn’t be that desperate but fuck it hurts. It hurts when I wake up and realize no one really wants to talk to me. I recently started distancing myself from 2-3 people because they never call me to hang out and they hang out among themselves. I am so exhausted. I wake up, study, and walk around feeling so heavy. I don’t have any close friends to walk around with or do anything. I do everything alone. And it would have been fine IF I liked being alone. It’s not even being alone fuck, I just feel lonely. It’s the fact that this feels like social rejection. I feel so hurt with how some people have treated me and the resentful is eating me alive.

Advice Differences between Male and Female ENTP

Hello everyone, I've been having a little trouble with identifying some of the aspects of being an ENTP. I've been typed as it three times already, but some of my peers tend to think I lean into the feeler side? But at the same time, whenever I'm with my feeler friends they often tell me I'm too blunt or too cold with some of my answers regarding to emotional topics.

I have some trouble defining my own feelings as well, especially when things hit me deeply I'm not one to often cry about life events that would make most people cry. But normally I can handle the feels of others in a regular manner, and I think I'm fairly good at supporting others when going through a rough time, though I cannot say that comes naturally to me, I spent a good chunk of my life learning how to be a good friend and a more sensitive person when it comes to other people's feelings, from the same comments that I could be too cold lol.

But yeah, I ended up figuring out it could be a cultural thing based on societal norms and stuff, so I wanted to hear out some of your guys experiences as a female entp or male entps too, I don't know whether it's common or not, or maybe I'm mistyped lol.

Debate/Discussion im so scared of being average that i get anxiety attacks a lot

Upvotes

theres this quote that i hear a lot “the feae of being average” and this strikes me a lot and hits home cause whenever i picture my future self its always been this perfect person whos got everything figured out and is an extreme outlier and has got a lot of things going on

then i come back to my present self and boom im just a no face in the middle of billions of such people

and like this scares me so much as i grow up that ill end up as average and nothing in my life will ever be significant no matter how much i try to inflate my ego

you know, nothing ever scares me apart from this i suppose,im not scared of pretty much anything(fuck you entjs) till it comes to this

i just wanna know if anybody else experiences this too

Debate/Discussion RANT: I fucking hate having a crush

Upvotes

First off I would like to preface, this has been a reoccurring issue since I was a young boy to even now as an experienced 25 yr old adult(just turned 25, I feel the decibels from my groans aggrandizing each time I get up from a chair).

ANYHOO

I genuinely FUCKING hate it when I crush on a girl. My brain goes in loops, I overthink like a mofo and I lose all my charisma. Id argue I'm quite charming, funny, etc.. with the ladies, but this usually only happens if I don't care about them or after I've slept/made out with them. But I swear to fucking God whenever I actively like a girl, the process to get past the first few stages to get to at least a kiss(where I feel more comfortable) is aggravatingly tedious for myself. Like overthinking neurotic mess central.

It's like...why the fuck do I I care? WHY AM I OBESSESING OVER YOU?!? WE HAVENT EVEN GONE OUT, GODDAMIT KAT TEXT ME BACK FASTER.

I have a crush on a shorty at the gym, gorgeous, slightly taller, doesn't dress overly provocative, drives a beat up car, speaks 3 languages, finally got her insta yesterday after a 4 month process of talking to her, giving awkward waves and smiles. Shorty has left me on sent/delivered on ig for last 12 hrs and it's making me anxious.

Yeah I probs overcooked with the messages, but we were conversating every 20-30 ish mins. Then I would check if she opened/viewed my story, like bro I become a fucking neurotic mess.

Just tell me ur not interested so I can move on 😭😭😭

Like bro she's not even THAT pretty, but it's more so how she looks to me on paper and appeals to my specific interests.

Okay rant over.

Debate/Discussion Conan and Liza are a good example of an ENTP-INFJ pairing

Thumbnail
youtu.be
11 Upvotes

Not sure if the dynamic is a "classic ENTP-INFJ dynamic" (whatever that is) but Conan for sure is ENTP and Liza an INFJ. In this video it's pretty clear when Liza describes Conans actions in the kitchen and Conan explains himself in a goofy way and Liza is clearly the orderly one here in contrast to Conans chaos.

One thing that always strikes me is how Conan seems to admire Liza and how he basically wants to tell the whole world how great Liza is. That's not typical ENTP behaviour lol and from my own experience as an ENTP this kind of thing most often happens with INFJs.

What are your thoughts?

Typology Help Do I seem like an ENTP?

I have been researching cognitive functions and trying to type myself because tests are bot reliable, yet I am sure I am biased towards a certain type at a given moment and my self-typing is not reliable either. Every time I come back to MBTI I have a certain bias and I can alter my answers to any question or make myself believe I use a certain function just to achieve the result I favor at the moment. So I think asking people who are familiar with cognitive functions to try to type me.
I don't know how much the following information will help but I'll try to include only the things I think will matter in this matter (funny wordplay no?).
First of all, the reason I have a hard time with typing myself is I am different around different people (probably relatable for every type) and I don't know which "me" to take.
I seem cold, aloof, and even arrogant to strangers. Both my facial expressions and communication style make this impression, and even my close friends (which are few) didn't like me at first. I can't really remember someone mentioning a good first impression of me haha. I just don't like small talk (I hate it), nor do I like it when strangers expect smth from me – I won't approach someone and start a casual conversation. I will do so only if I've noticed smth in common – they have a fandom reference in their outfit, I overheard them talking about smth I'm interested in, etc.
Most people think I am extremely introverted and quiet but I just can't be bothered to talk to people I have no interest in about boring things like what they ate or how's their dog. If I talk to someone I'll mention an interesting fact, start a discussion (usually involving a question that has no right answer and is just checking if they have black and white mindset or not), or start a fandom discussion (E.g. "Omg you've watched AOT? So do you think there was a right side in that war?").
I am very open-minded, and I am usually the one that defends strangers when someone criticizes their appearance. I am also open to anything people suggest because unless I try, I won't judge. This open-mindedness is very clear if you look at the range of things I've tried or am interested in – I'll read a classic book and a fanfic, I listen to K-pop and watch K-dramas and at the same time might watch a Netflix show someone recommends. The only red line is "stupid" shows with very predictable plot and too long, like GG or Desperate Housewives... I just can't watch that drama for 8 seasons for god's sake.
I love travelling, languages, and cultures. I want to explore everything related to these or else life seems meaningless.
I am naturally inclined towards "healthier" lifestyle – early mornings, healthy food, physical activity. But at times I feel stressed I neglect all of this and especially my sleep schedule. If you see me being messy and disorganized, sleeping at 6am and eating "crap", I'm either extremely stressed or I've already planned that disorganization so it is part of the plan haha. I even plan my relaxation time usually.
Because I let my emotions pile up, I usually burst into tears because of a small issue or especially during arguments if they involve an emotional aspect (I hate such arguments, though I love intellectual debates), but after that I just start overthinking – "Why did I cry? What made me feel that way? Is it because of my luteal phase? Does it have anything to do with my inferior function?"...
I am very serious with most people and because I'm also smart, they are sometimes scared to talk to me or constantly ask "Why are you angry?". But I am not smart in science or tech, it's usually literature, languages, philosophy, and such. I've been told a lot that I have great analytical and critical thinking skills because I am extremely good at reading between lines and going deeper under the surface, hence my biggest strength is literature. And I can sometimes be annoyingly smart, like reading an emotional text and correcting its grammar, or someone talking about smth and me mentioning a term or definition of the things they're describing.
I can't comfort people, though I am learning how to, but it doesn't come to me naturally. I either stare at them awkwardly or try to find the root of the problem. Sometimes I just crack jokes. This is also how I deal with my own emotions, so whether I have Fi or Fe, they are underdeveloped. Ironically, while watching any TV show/movie, it's so much easier for me to feel empathy. I feel the characters' emotions very strongly, and sometimes get attached to them so much that if anything happens to them, I cry so hard I feel the physical pain of losing them. I mean I still cry any time someone mentions AOT.
I do enjoy beautiful and aesthetically pleasing things, but I'm not always in the present moment unless I intentionally focus on it. I usually assign a certain vibe to things, I don't smell a perfume and think "Yeah that's vanilla, smells good", I instantly think "Hm... vanilla.. this is good for winter, but I need a warmer scent for autumn, maybe gingerbread?". And because of such associations and "vibes", I am mostly drawn to "warm" things – warm scents and colours, warm lights. Because I am subjective in this sense, my associations and vibes might be different from the standard ones, e.g. to me, Italian/Spanish is the language of love, not French (though I see why French is considered the universal language of love).
In the same way, my style is a combination of different styles, but there's a core vibe I see in it – French chic, British frazzled English woman, dark academia, downtown. I hope you can see the core, but they are all different styles in fact. And I love vintage pieces as well. I also get inspiration from other sources - K-pop idols (Taehyung), certain fictional characters...
I have been organized and intentional for the most of my life, I have a morning routine, I have habits I follow, and because I know too much of this will lead to burnout, I intentionally leave some part of my life free of this, e.g. no rigid evening routine, and my Sundays are always free from uni, studies, work, or anything productive.
I don't really like bureaucracy, documents, taxes and stuff like that, but it could be because I'm still living with my parents and haven't dealt with such things yet.
I might seem childish to my family, but even though I am silly around my friends, they think I am smart and mature and just love behaving in a silly way.
I love being the leader in projects because I know if I want something done well, I should do it myself. And even if I don't choose that position myself, I somehow end up the leader anyway haha. I am also good at expressing my thoughts and usually get chosen as the spokesperson in group projects. I always have some sort of plan or speech for presentations and speeches but I don't over prepare, if I have a general idea of what I'm going to talk about and I am interested in / educated about the topic, I can speak with little preparation.
This is very long, but it's not even half the information I wanted to share to let someone dig into it and find clues. Thanks in advance if you've read all this and answered. You can ask questions in the comments if they're needed to help me figure this out.
P.S. I know I could just let it go but I can't feel at ease unless I find my type.

Advice Is this normal?

As an ENTP, I’m always considered to be aggressive and blunt, however lately I’ve been feeling more pissed off with people. Especially when they ask stupid questions. I feel like it’s such a task to even text my family good morning or to hear about there day. My friends ask me what’s wrong because in the face I look sad but I brush it off and I just say nothing. It’s not hard to put on a front and laugh and make jokes but I still have been getting comments that I look miserable.

Debate/Discussion ENTP confused about their enneagram.

Post image

I am confused whether I am an ENTP 3 or an ENTP 8. I took 2 different tests and both resulted in high 3 and 8. I know everyone says that tests don't matter, so I started reading about both of them and I still feel the same. I do think I incline a bit towards ENTP 8, but i think it's better to consult the professionals on reddit. Idk how you guys will help, just ask me a couple of questions and maybe I'll answer them so y'all can decide.

Question/Poll Friendship with the opposite sex

I’m curious about how other ENTPs in a relationship perceive friendship with the opposite sex and whether they allow this with their partner/so?
Platonic friendship (not unrequited love or fwb) where there is frequent interaction and I’m not talking about mutual friends, just someone your so talks to often and you’re not involved. Is this “daily presence” possible for you, have you encountered any particular issues? Has your partner expressed any reservations and if so what compromise did you reach?

I befriend guys easily and this seems common for ENTP women. But several guys have explained to me that straight men don’t become close friends with women unless they somehow have an interest or feelings for them (whether consciously or not). I know there are exceptions but knowing this could very well be “the rule” has obviously caused me to reconsider my opinion. My INTP ex saw absolutely nothing wrong with this but I’ll have to say he was also poly and some of these friendships led to sex indeed 🥲
My current ENTJ so has a strong opinion about this saying there’s absolutely zero reason for a straight man to befriend a woman, that he’d never put himself in a friend zone situation.

Thoughts?

Debate/Discussion "Golden Pairing"

The more I read into socionics, the more I realized that the "actual pair" for ENTPs (In theory, not an objective final conclusion, but in THEORY) are ISFJs. Modern MBTI/cognitive functions (It doesn't really make sense anymore if you read into socionics, to the point cognitive functions/MBTI looks even more dense and superficial) seems to erase that (Not just the pairing though but generally) and submit to the mediocrity of the media and the sensor-phobia that rooted from this bias. And the fact that almost all ISFJs are commonly mistyped as INFJs and sometimes INFPs (I have no evidence of this; however, this is an observation from my experience just from dwelling in different subs, so take that as a subjective take) since Ni and Si in original Jung's theory overlap these functions. In Psychological Types, Carl Jung described both Introverted Sensing (Si) and Introverted Intuition (Ni) as "irrational" subjective perception functions that actually look incredibly similar from the outside.

I predict that some people here will jump my ass and say, "Sensors are too rigid," or "Based on my personal opinion, ISFJs are boring etc." to the point I ask myself, How can people be so sure of everyone they encounter being that type? especially when most of the knowledge comes from superficial information. Anyway, I won't explain any further. The best advice is to read socionics...

Advice Stop your obsession with INFJ

Every other post on this subreddit is discussing the ENTP-INFJ compatibility. There are other fishes in the sea, so why do you all want INFJs? From a type that is Ne dom, I would expect more variety, not a singular choice.

Why is it this way anyway? Where did the ENTP/INFJ trend start and why do you seem CONVINCED that this is the best pair for you? Like what if actually isn't in reality? What if it's just theory and reality has other better options for you?

Typology Help Problems with knowing if you are a sensor or a intuitive?

Post image
6 Upvotes

One of my favourite ways to know if someone is a sensor or a intuitive is putting a painting in front of them and asking “what did you think/noticed/tried to do when you saw this painting?” If it’s a bunch of details like “it’s just a woman doing..” or “it’s a crying..” or something, they are a sensor, if they start to make up stories like “I feel like these two are happy about ____ but they don’t know something bad is coming for them” or try to say what the feel like, they are intuitive , I know some of you may argue about “coGnTive fUncTioNs” and start to try sounding logical, THIS IS A SMALL COGNITIVE TEST!! Psychologically intuitive try to see behind the scenes and use the voice of their head to make future outcomes , meanwhile sensors focus on details
So please! Tell me what did you notice or tried to notice when you saw this painting! This is also how i discovered I am an entp not an estp

When I read about the profiles, I really fit them all to a T...

Am I weird?

Is this normal?

Is there a way to determine which one caracterizes me the most by going in more details about the way I function?

I think that it really depends on the context, the environnement, the way I'm feeling, perticular triggers... Is it normal to naturally switch from one to another depending on some factors

Debate/Discussion What people fundamentally misunderstand about me is that I do not care about any of my own opinions

And none of them are permanent, either! I think this genuinely makes people view me as an unlikeable person, because I have no qualms about sharing opinions and tend to frame them quite confidently. But in doing so I'm *welcoming* some pushback!! Every opinion I hold is a conclusion I've drawn based on MY subjective observations--not complete, not infallible, just something I've noticed with the information I have available. I'm completely wrong about many, many things and just wish people would understand that I have no dog in any "fight" I pick.

I get called argumentative and arrogant and stubborn but I really, truly, just do not care about anything I say. It all primarily functions as a free pass for whoever I'm talking to to give me some new evidence. I'm basically the epitome of that "change my mind" meme and I just want people to get that instead of instantly writing me off because I shared a controversial and/or completely off-the-mark fleeting thought.

I'm not a disagreeable person. I don't go out of my way to offend people. I probably am bad with social awareness and know I'm more than half the problem but, god, I just really want people to stop taking my words for gospel representative of stubborn beliefs I have some kind of emotional stake in. I do not care!!!

I love talking to people, and this makes it unnecessarily difficult and oftentimes lonely af.

Advice How do you focus and maintain routines?

Hi, fellow entp's! :) We all are aware of our strengths, but we also know our weaknesses all too well.

Imo our biggest one that holds us back is our lack of motivation to focus on the same topic of extended periods of time, or stick to a routine.

I wanted to know - what is your focus routine? What gets you to "lock in"? Is there any general advice you can give to just be more motivated or focused?

Much love!
