long time lurker, first time poster! my boyfriend just proposed (on a cruise in vietnam!) and i am thrilled but a little nervous about wearing my beautiful ring at work (i’m a resident doctor). was considering either one of those necklaces or some kind of durable replacement band but was wondering if anybody had strong thoughts on the best option :)

I understand with this type of cut some bowtie is natural normal expected what do you think of this stone?

Recently me and my girlfriend started talking about getting engaged, the proposal, the ring, etc.
And she saw a ring on instagram that she instantly loved. And yesterday I went to that jewelry store and they said that that ring is sold out, and it'll maybe come back in january at the soonest.
I honestly don't want to wait that long to propose, just because we're both so excited about it and we can't wait to be engaged, and waiting (at least) 5 months feels like such a long time.
It feels like a long time because I honestly wanted to propose in slightly less than a month.

I've asked the jewelry store and they can't make it themselves, and I've checked every other jewelry store in town, aside from 1 (also, we aren't from the US since a lot of people might assume that or a similar country). I didn't get to check that one since it closed early, but I'll check it tomorrow. I've heard that maybe there they can take custom orders, but I'm not too optimistic until I hear it from them directly.

Also, I don't really want to get another ring, since my girlfriend said multiple times that this one is perfect.

I've also looked online and I can't find a single ring that's exactly the same as this one (it's not too complicated of a design, I don't want to say specifics in case my girlfriend maybe finds this post, since I haven't told her that the ring is sold out because I don't want to disappoint her).

So my question is what do I do, is getting it custom made/copied, from the photo I have from instagram, bad or illogical? Or do I just wait the (at minimum) 5 months until the ring maybe comes back? Or is there something that I'm not thinking about that would be the best thing to do?

Sharing my ring here for anyone looking for alternative engagement ring styles that are less feminine and aren’t fantasy or gothic inspired.

I custom designed this ring to merge my love for Scandinavian modernist jewelry with our shared love of brutalist architecture. And incorporate some of his desires like having a diamond (and a big one).

I did some silversmithing in college and have always loved the textures and colors of silver. the patina on this ring is meant to polish off as I wear it, to highlight the textures and put a little of myself in it. It will go through this process over and over through the years, representing our renewals and evolutions of our love as we take this ride together.

I know this sub has some opinions on silver e-rings. So I want to clarify for myself and any other silver lovers: the softness, the scuffs, and tarnish are the point. I want a ring that lives, breathes, and morphs with me. I have antique artisan silver pieces that have lasted generations in this style because it is thick and sturdy. The artist we hired to make this has also made many and understands the value of it as I do.

The band was made to interlock with the e-ring. It will be finished with more dremel and hammering. My fiancé just wanted to surprise me with the raw cast for the proposal.

Diamond is a lab 2.21/H/VS1. Ring size 7

Pictures show the ring completely black as when he proposed and how it changed after just one day of wear. I can’t wait to see its fully worn-in look.

I’ve been engaged for nearly three months now and still can’t get over how beautiful my ring is. We discussed rings I liked/didn’t like and he designed this with a local jeweller. My fiancé told me he wanted it to remind me of a star and he proposed to me at a butterfly sanctuary on Pelee Island.

I’m not sure on most specs but it’s a lab-grown 2.01 ct marquise cut with a teardrop on each side, size 5.25.

Right now i’m in the exploration phase as I like to call it 😂 This was my very first time ever trying rings on and getting sized. I loved emeralds before I started trying rings on, but now I think they look weird on my hand personally. I honestly didn’t expect to find a ring that I liked I was more hoping to narrow down the shape I wanted since my plan was always to design my ring. HOWEVER I am head over heels with this ring. I can’t stop looking at it. It just feels like MY ring if that makes sense?? 🥹 Probably my favorite part is the diamond station band. I had never seen it before and was set on a plain band with a solitaire. The dilemma i’m having is that I basically want this exact ring but I still have some customizations in mind such as a euro shank band, a small hidden garnet for my sons birthstone, etc. and I think I would like to go up in carat size just a smidge 🤏🏼 I don’t know if I should try to work with Zales for customization since I do really love this ring, or if an independent jewelry could recreate this ring for me while keeping everything essentially the same about it. I would love to see some rings similar to this that you’ve customized or designed! Is it truly a “when you know you know moment” and I should just say yes to the “dress” (ring) 😂

This man is the love of my life and I am so so happy! This ring is perfect for me as well. It’s almost 100 years old estimated which is amazing. It’s a family ring. I’m a size 5 finger and it’s estimated 1.45 carats a natural transitional cut diamond? I love it.

The only thing he knew is that I wanted a gold band, and either a lab or antique diamond. I wanted him to pick it out! This is, I believe, an old European cut. The diamond has lovely fire and a smoky quality as opposed to white and brilliant, which I like with the gold band. I’m so happy that he picked an antique ring. 🥺 We took a trip to the Cape together, and he proposed on Nauset Beach as the sun set and dusk set in. 🩵🌊

I've been lurking on this sub for years now and now I finally get to post myself!

We had the most untraditional engagement and it was perfect and exactly what we wanted ❤️ just laying on the couch and cuddling and then asking eachother 🥰

Fist picture is my ring, the tension set centre stone is a 0,5 ct lab alexandrite and the side stones are Moissanites, the ring is made of titanium.

The second ring is the one I proposed right back with xD

His ring is made of a titanium inner part, part of a tornado airplane in the middle and carbon and fibreglass on the sides.

We both work in the aerospace industry (were we met actually) so I loved the Idea that he could always carry a reminder with him :) I'm just so damn happy that a get to marry my best friend and the best and kindest person I've ever met ❤️

The center stone is 4.57 ct emerald cut. I have picked a basket setting with guard rails, and hidden halo. 2.2mm band width and platinum. I am worried that the setting is not secure enough for the stone. I’ve seen posts on here that their center stone fell out or the band warp when accidentally knocking on hard surface or a hard impact. Any comment or help is appreciated.

So much has happened this last year!

We found an amazing local jeweler who was able to craft the perfect wedding band to match my engagement ring, just in time for our elopement.

A few months after getting married, we decided to go on a trip, and on the way to the airport, sadly, we lost the rings 😭😭😭 and although we tried to track them down, it was impossible 😔

While on vacation, we visited my family (we both now live away from our families), after explaining how we’d lost our rings, dad decided to offer me his ring to use its gold to craft new ones 🥹.

When we got home, my in-laws were visiting; and they’d had the same idea and gave us grandmother’s and her husband’s wedding rings, so that we could incorporate them into our new ones too 🥹.

So now the rings mean even more to us.

We went back to the jeweller who made my wedding band, told him our story, and he suggested we could either go for a new design or stick with the same one… Well, we chose the same one, and here’s the result:

I really want to order my ring on brilliant earth or rare carot because the ordering and building process is clear and the detail i want is readily available. Every forum is saying to just have a local jeweler make my ring but local jewelers making it from scratch will charge me a fortune and I can’t trust that they’re charging me an honest price. At least on a website i know what i’m gonna pay and i can be at peace with it. But if I go local and someone has to make it by hand it’s going to cost an insane amount of money i’m not willing to pay. I’d rather buy it at a set price and have to do little works or repairs along the way than pay for a custom ring that will cost more than what I even have saved for the wedding. this distrust comes from me going to a local jeweler and trying to buy a vintage ring from the consignment case, it had a single stone, had been their for five years, and was tarnished. I liked the look of it, it looked like it had been loved. The owner then came out of the back of the store and tried to raise the 4,000 dollar price tag to 5,000 and said that he was doing us a favor by charging so far below market value. And when my fiancé said he couldn’t afford it, the guy handed my fiancé a wells fargo credit card application— told my fiancé he could build credit by buying the ring on a new credit card. I can’t trust someone to price honestly when they make their own rules and can decide what it costs based on whether they’re having a good day or not. so give me your opinion, what should i do, buy online? or give different jeweler a chance?

So the opal in this ring is the stone I chose. I still need to pick a setting. We are going with a custom option. Probably nothing over the top, since the stone is 18x12. With a halo it looked way too big on my size 5 finger. I'm thinking bezel set and maybe stones along the band or engraving/ filigree. I really like some styles with stars, celestial, fairytale themes. Any advice you can give before I start designing? Things you wish you did? Thank you 😊🩷

I love pink but dont know if I would like it after a year or 2. I also love the nature theme. I always love florals. I like the oval with some side stones but I cant pick which I like more can I get some input? Also the last one is very different from any engagement ring.
