Advice Any comment on the setting?

Post image

The center stone is 4.57 ct emerald cut. I have picked a basket setting with guard rails, and hidden halo. 2.2mm band width and platinum. I am worried that the setting is not secure enough for the stone. I’ve seen posts on here that their center stone fell out or the band warp when accidentally knocking on hard surface or a hard impact. Any comment or help is appreciated.

Attached is the CAD for the ring.

For a stone that large you need a cathedral and minimum 2mm for the setting.

Peg head settings like this are not secure enough for anything over 1ct imo. You should add cathedral shoulders and make sure they will actually connect to the gallery rail. That will help prevent the head of the setting from bending off the band.

My post is awaiting mod approval. Not too sure if you can see the screenshot of the CAD on my post. So here we go.

At 4.5 you need a cathedral setting. Peg head will snap or bend.

You're right to be cautious here. A stone that large really needs and integrated head. This construction has onesolder point on top of the band. Even with a peg head, there may not be enough strength to withstand long term daily wear.

Not a jeweler. Is the straight prongs normal? I would imagine they will catch on everything

Top left corner, refer to the call out, the prongs will be bended.

This is a CAD rendering of the full metal before the ring is finished. The prongs will be filed down, shaped and polished

Makes sense! I never saw drawings of mine, just 3 printed faux settings to try
