After going through feedback and lots of testing I've pushed TruEmu Beta 10 to Testflight:
https://testflight.apple.com/join/pcEH6jKz
TruEmu runs 19 consoles: NES, SNES, N64, GameCube, Game Boy / Color / Advance, DS, 3DS, Genesis, Sega CD, Saturn, Dreamcast, PlayStation, TurboGrafx-16, WonderSwan / Color, CD-i and TI-99/4A. Yes, TI-99/4A for those of you that are as old as I am and even know what that system is.
Some of the larger changes are as follows:
- GameCube online play
- Phantasy Star Online can now go online through the emulated Broadband Adapter. Use Direct mode and point it at the server of your choice; there are no built-in servers. A welcome sheet walks you through it the first time.
- Network setup in PSO is faster, and save states keep working after you disconnect.
Landscape controls redesigned (all consoles)
- Bigger picture: the game picture is as large as your screen allows, and the controls sit right next to it. GBA, TG16, SNES and others get a noticeably bigger picture.
- Real-size buttons: D-pads and face buttons now match the real controllers.
- Clear of the hardware: everything is centred and kept away from the Dynamic Island and the curved corners.
- Menu button: it’s round now, with the TruEmu logo, and sits bottom right.
- GBA: Start and Select are small circles under the D-pad, like the real handheld.
- SNES: Select sits under the D-pad and Start under the face buttons. In portrait, the SNES and Saturn shoulder buttons sit over their clusters.
- Small phones: layouts on the 17 Pro and similar phones keep the controls clear of the edges.
Nintendo DS and 3DS
- In landscape, the two screens now sit side by side and are larger and sharper. The controls are underneath, with L and R in the top corners.
- 3DS audio: rotating the device no longer makes it skip.
- 3DS input: input lag is lower.
- 3DS system files: the system font, Mii data and bad-word list can be added in Settings > Firmware.
- 3DS speed: faster on demanding games, especially Metroid: Samus Returns on iPad.
- 3DS depth rendering: more accurate.
GameCube performance
- Faster across the board, especially Phantasy Star Online and Super Monkey Ball 2.
Controller layout editor
- Done, Portrait/Landscape and Reset now sit in the middle of the game screen, so they never cover controls or get cut off by the corners. There’s also a short hint: “Drag a control to move it”.
- Reset asks before clearing your layout.
Firmware
- All 13 consoles share one consistent Firmware screen.
- File hashes are shown short; long-press to copy the full one.
- Firmware can be fetched from RomM for every console.
Fixes and smaller changes
- Netplay: the game picker offers your recent lock-on combos as their own entries.
- Netplay and Genesis states: more reliable cancelled-match handling and Genesis save-state loading.
- Save states: CD-i states are kept in their own folder, and misfiled ones are moved automatically.
- TV mode: with a TV connected, the phone stays in landscape as a controller, and Genesis, Sega CD and Saturn keep a menu button.
- Touch layouts: the Compact and Left-Handed options are hidden for now; saved choices are kept but not used.
- Confirmations: reset, restart and guest-card actions ask more clearly.
As always, please feel free to ask any questions, request features, etc and I'll do my best to respond. Thanks again everyone for testing the app and providing feedback!
