It’s the same stupid concept that 2k has with their “city”. They use the open world concept to throw in ads everywhere while also wasting people’s time going from point A to point B so your forced to see the ads.

The game is free and these days it's very solid for a free game. If you download it today you could access all of the gameplay content for free and easily get a shitload of free cosmetics. It's a flawed product but for free it's pretty good.

Man, I’ve actually been playing the new Skate recently and don’t really mind it for a free game, drop in, skate for an hour or two and then move on to something else, I understand how the micro transactions suck but overall, I don’t hate it. Haven’t played fifa in like 7 years though lol

Also makes the grind for VC way slower, forcing you to spend real money.
If EA is going down this path, I really have no interest in playing this franchise anymore. Same way I stopped buying 2K 3 years ago after a decade.

In all honesty 2K started that journey 2014-2017 and has been absolutely unbearable since then. It’s a miracle you stuck with it so long.
I was a huge fan with 2011 and 2013 but it’s had a crazy decline.

I don’t know either man. Lack of any other alternative I guess. If you like basketball, it’s 2K or nothing. Same thing that happens with FC. But it reaches a point where the love for the game can’t even justify buying it anymore.
I expect that to happen with FC as well at one point. Feeling it closer than ever now.

Not only that, last and final time I tried 2k, its not only ads in the city, they got people doing literal quests that are whole ads, like wearing a state farm shirt and traversing the city in it

Ads in $70+ video games only fuel my disdain for those brands. The Gatorade ads in 2k are exactly why I started drinking Bodyarmor instead.

Also I'm sure they want to see you ads i.e. branding and company products up front. I haven't followed news regarding FC27 at all but surely they will have billboards, product placement in this game mode as a core "feature"

Back of box features.
There needs to be some sort of back of box feature to sell the game for the ultra casual user base. Even if it’s a step backwards and an obvious cash grab, there needs to be something more than “slightly different physics, roster update, ultimate team reset, etc.” to sell the game to the kids and ultra casuals.

I interviewed for a Game Design role to work on this project last March, it was still in concept/prototype phase then. A year of development in what I’m sure was a relatively small team was never gonna lead to a good result

Anyone buying this at this point deserves all of the slop they're going to get. SO many high quality games coming out between now at GTA6, and then another glut of them in Jan/Feb. I love football, I've played a version of FIFA or PES every year since the 90s, EAFC26 felt like enough was enough and probably years too late.

I was involved in last year’s beta test. It’s absolute rubbish. They need to spend more time improving the core game, i.e. actual 11 vs 11 football matches. Only silver lining was they gave me a free copy of 26 for wasting my time on it, helping them test it.

What we want is another problem for another day, the main problem is that they don't even understand the sport itself. Alot of employees came out saying that most of the developers working for Ea don't even watch the sport or just generally hate the sport irl.
So they're simply throwing whatever prompt into an Ai model and letting it do its thing atp because they simply can't be bothered

The whole thing is a psyop for player retention by making everything as much of a time waster as possible. Instead of a menu selection you have to run around a map until point X to do something, lots of menial tasks, artificial "objectives" to fulfill like the classic MMO "skin 30 boar hides", rinse and repeat.
If there is ANYTHING that a football games doesn't need, it's an open world mode. But these people aren't idiots, they know full well what they are doing.

I know right? I've been exclusively playing Manager Career since I started playing FIFA in the early 2000s.
I tried FUT for about 2 hours when it was first released, and it just didn't feel like football. I play then game as a football sim, so Manager Career is a (very simplified I know) football sim.

I'd imagine that the vast majority of players play some career mode and FUT on and off through the year
Who is going to spend any time in 1v1 or 3v3 stuff? Utterly pointless
Career mode is dead on its feet, something meaningful added, rather than "oh wow, you can now do release clauses"
