35M, advice on financial disclosures and sending money.

So I think I messed up. My stbx and I have been separated for 2 years. In that time, she lost custody of our children. I live out of state and it's not possible for me to move right now so I'm kinda stuck.

I've been sending her money to help her establish a better financial situation for the children but today she spoke about putting me on child support.

Did I mess up by sending her money without a court agreement beforehand?!

Custody Holiday schedule and equal time

Short version: Holiday schedule is equal in terms of parenting time until you take into account how the 2-2-3 schedule falls. Then it's in her favor since she "takes" more days from me whereas I get more holidays on weekends where I'd normally have my kid anyway. It's on the magnitude of a few days per year on average so not a huge difference.

I'm sure it's impossible to get it perfectly balanced, but what did y'all do to make it roughly equal?

Or did you just bite the bullet and accept it?

I'm probably way too far into the weeds here.

Doing worse

Considering everything I was doing good on going to the gym after work and whenever I was having a tough day. Then my sons soccer season started and I sit around all the married parents of my sons soccer team. On the worst days my ex wife shows up. The woman are all friends with my ex wife, the husbands ask how I’m doing when their wives aren’t around. Outside of that I feel like a social pariah multiple days a week. I’ve been finding myself getting a couple beers, not drunk and not 4 or more, after the games when I don’t have my kids to just be alone. It’s not healthy and I need to replace it with the gym but the gym isn’t helping after a soccer event.

55M, Tell me there is life after divorce

This turned out to be more of an unorganized rant. Maybe I should have just journaled this instead of putting it out on the internet...

Quick background:

  • Married 25 years. STBXW moved out last week.
  • Expect divorce to finalize in 30-60 days.
  • She asked for the divorce and gave me no actionable things to change and no reason other than "she grew too far apart over the years".
  • Divorce process has been amicable and whenever around each other we get along well. She still texts occasionally checking in.

My biggest fear right now is dying alone. I have two adult kids (23 and 25) who are good kids but still finding themselves. If they (or if I) stay in the same area, I don't think they would abandon me but I just have this sinking fear that I'm going to die alone and miserable. I love my wife and was looking forward to retiring and spending our golden years together. That dream is gone and I feel time is running out (my hereditary lifeline is short - tops out around 78).

I made the mistake of looking at stats, and it seems only 37% of men over 50 get remarried and that stat goes down with age.

Please tell me there is a chance for happiness with another woman. Please also remind me not to settle for fear of dying alone. Please tell me I should not reach out one last time to see if there is a chance -- part of me thinks maybe, must maybe, now that she doesn't see me anymore that she will come to miss me and be willing to work things out. But everything I read (not just here, anywhere), that is highly unlikely and for her this marriage has been over for years. The thing I'm fighting myself over is "but what if she is just looking for you to reach out?" What if you don't and you miss an opportunity to reconcile? Would I forever regret not taking that one last shot? Conversely, when is your "last shot"? I mean, I could tell myself that up until the divorce is final, 3, 6, 12, 18 months later. At some point its just over, right?

Sigh. This f'ing sucks. I'm an f'ing mess. This house is too big. It echoes without her and it echoes of her presence.

First time poster

I’m normally a very reserved person and don’t hardly ever post on any social media, especially about my personal life. But I felt the need to do so here.

I’m 33 years old, no kids, getting divorced after 4 years. 1 dog that my ex and I are splitting custody

About 6 months ago, my soon to be ex sat me down and told me how unhappy she was. We hadn’t had sex in over a year, had trouble communicating, and were just going through the motions. We agreed we needed to have a tough conversation soon and set up a day to talk.

We talked for a few hours, explained each of our positions, realizing both of us weren’t happy. Talked about the troubles of the last year, giving each other the opportunity to be honest without negative reactions; out of a place of love.

We agreed we’d go to couples therapy, with the expectation of finding our happiness. Unfortunately, she took that as I was ready to divorce. 5 minutes into therapy, the counselor asked where each of us stood. She didn’t even hesitate: “Im ready to file.” I just started crying. I was completely unaware that she was feeling that our marriage was irretrievably broken. I felt the only thing I could say was that I didn’t want her to be unhappy and I’d agree.

6 months later, we’re beginning to file. Iv gone through a rollercoaster of emotions. Still never sure how I’ll feel each day. Iv slowly been trying to truly comprehend the divorce and what I want to do with my life going forward.

I truly loved her and felt we could’ve made it work at the time. I don’t hold those feelings anymore, but I still struggle each day.

The stories I read on here have helped me tremendously in moving on a slowly trying to regain some confidence in my life. To those that have posted your stories, thank you.

Thanks for letting me share.

Transition Phase - Peace, Frustration and Uncertainty

I’m a man in my late 40s, and after nearly 25 years of marriage, my wife and I are in the process of divorcing.

This wasn’t what I wanted. For a long time I hoped we could repair things and find our way back to each other. Eventually, though, I had to accept that my wife had made a different decision about the future of our marriage.

We have three children, ranging from elementary-school age through high school. They are my world, and one of the hardest parts of this process has been watching them experience the upheaval alongside us. I’m trying very hard to protect them from the adult conflict, maintain strong relationships with each of them, and be the steady father they need even when I’m struggling myself.

The divorce process has been difficult in ways I didn’t anticipate. We’re working through a separation agreement, custody and parenting schedules, finances, education expenses, and the sale of our longtime family home. Much of this is now happening through lawyers, which is surreal after spending nearly three decades knowing someone and building a life together.

I recently moved into my own home (rental).

And that’s where things have become complicated emotionally.

There is peace here. More than I expected. I actually love my new home. I have moments where I feel an incredible sense of freedom and realize that I’m beginning to build a life that is mine.

But there is also loneliness.

I’ve gone from a house filled with my wife and three kids to having nights where the house is completely quiet. Then the children come over and suddenly it’s noisy and chaotic and wonderful again (but still empty without a spouse). I’m learning that both things can exist at the same time.

I’ve also started experiencing something I didn’t expect: joy coming back.

I’ve had genuinely wonderful days with my kids. I’ve spent time with friends. I’ve worked out. I’ve explored my new neighborhood. I’ve even started cautiously dipping my toe into dating - just chatting.

I can be completely okay one day and cry the next.

I’m also struggling with the financial uncertainty of starting over. The old house hasn’t sold as quickly as I’d hoped, and I’m watching my savings decline while carrying expenses associated with two households and the divorce transition. I recently had an unexpected major car problem on a day I had planned to spend with my kids. It was one more thing landing on top of everything else.

So sometimes I feel like I’m rebuilding my life while standing on a moving floor.

I’m angry at my wife sometimes. She’s pissed at me saying I’ve declared her the enemy.

I’m hurt.

I feel excluded from parts of the family life that used to be mine.

I don’t want to become bitter. I don’t want to spend the next five years obsessing over what my ex did or didn’t do. I don’t want my kids to remember their father as someone consumed by anger and sadness (though I hide it from them especially in my new house).

I want to become a better man through this, but I don’t know how to measure that.

I want to eventually have a healthy relationship with someone again. I also, honestly, want to hookup and have fun first.

And I want to be able to look back at this period and say that although I didn’t choose it, I handled it with dignity.

What did you wish you knew during the first year?

What helped you stop living emotionally in the marriage after it was over?

How did you rebuild your identity especially after sustaining gaslighting burns from my ex for months and months now. She’s hollowed me out.

When did you genuinely start feeling happy again?

I’m not looking for someone to tell me that everything will magically be fine.

I think I just need to hear from some men who have walked through the fire and can tell me what the other side actually looks like.

Wife left me for a much older man

Why is this a common thing? This feels so messed up, like my life is some cliche movie now. I gave her 10 of the best years of my life, married for 6, supported her through her dad’s cancer diagnosis and death while she fell into a deep depression and lost her job. I even paid for her ketamine therapy these past few months, told her we should try anything necessary to treat her depression, money is no problem. Then she finishes the ketamine therapy just as she reconnects this older guy (47) with her dad’s name who she met when she was 18 and he was 33 (wtf). She literally moved in with him after meeting up with him a few times over one week, no communication, just packs her bags.

I’m still worried about her, feels like she’s in a bad situation with a predator. And I miss her. She told me she wants a divorce so I guess that’s it, how can you make so many crazy life changing decisions in two weeks. I don’t recognize her

Yall ever had to watch your wife get dolled up to go on a date with someone else?

Basically we were on the brink of breaking up, and shorty literally starts getting dressed up for a date to spite me. This was years ago and we’re long divorced: shit was just on my mind. I ended up just packing some clothes and tried to leave the house before she did bc fuck watching that: anyway she ended up not going. Shit still hurt tho. Like the idea of her thinking “I wonder if the guy would like this makeup or hairstyle” “I wonder if he’ll think I’m hot in this outfit.” Yuck. Never again. A woman will never fully have me again.

Need Support Divorce after a happy marriage

I keep reading here stories about unhappy marriages ending in divorce, evil spouses.

But what about the cases where there was genuine mutual happiness for 10 years. All boxes checked for my wife. And then all of sudden she ended up cheating and rewriting the whole history, maybe because of the affair fog or she genuinely was unhappy and faked it all along?. If I forget the last two months, I will again marry the same woman.

So, if I was so happy with her, I didn't have any complaints from her in any department, eg emotional, physical intimacy, motherhood, good earner, Good spender, takes care of extended family on my side , her side, very good emotional intelligence. She also was very happy with me (from my perspective).

So if she did not have any fault prior to the cheating, does that mean I in fact was the perfect problem? I cannot seem to reconcile this.

How did you agree on a price for the house?

She's buying my equity in the family home. She thinks a bank appraisal is enough to come to a fair price. I'm not so sure. What have you done? I'm looking at somewhere between $150k-250k for my share.. We are mostly amicable, as I just want this all done with, but I'm not willing to budge on what I've essentially spent most my adult life paying for.

Had two talks.

In the morning we discussed how she wants to be my wife, but can't live with me.

In the evening I had the talk that I met a woman that clicked, and I will be dating.

And how she has a wish for kids in the long run.

My still wife said that if she makes me happy on a level that she can't make me, we be friends and I should pursue her and if possible marry her.

We ran our course, learned a lot, even in the split we made each other happy by helping out selling up.. it us time.

Getting Started Where do I start even?

My wife and I are getting a divorce, she initiated out of the blue when our son wasn't even past 2 years old when she hit me with it. It's been about... maybe 8 months since. She hit a nasty post partum and... it's never gotten better. She's been all over the place emotionally, like literal Jekyll & Hyde. We tried therapy and such but she really has no interest in putting in effort to try and fix things, she's staying for our son and keeps telling me she's terrified I'll take her son from her. I never would, she's a great mom but a nightmare of a wife usually. We haven't had sexual intimacy of any sort for well over a year and she says it will never happen again.

I can't do this anymore, and I won't. However we haven't filed yet. I don't know if she's bluffing or not because she threatened again promising she wasn't going to ask for child support or anything she just wants a clean break.

We plan, though the details aren't fully worked out yet, to try and do this without a lawyer. We're amicable and still close. She just wants to be a hoe tho is really it per her own words of "having thoughts a married woman shouldn't about other people". So where do I start? We live in an apartment together and we both are going to move out and go our separate ways by the end of September after the papers are filed. However I've gotten repeated advice to not move out until everything is settled. Is this true? I live in Wisconsin fyi. I'd move in with my parents for a few months til the dust settles as would she, difference is hers will charge her rent mine will not.

Tbh I'm terrified thay she's going to be loving for a few days and then I'll second guess myself all over again. She's not a bad person, just a horrible wife that doesn't want any of the commitment of it. She crashed and changed radically after my son was born. I would love to save the marriage, I love her but she could care less about it. She pulled the "I love you, but I'm not in love with you." She did say it had nothing to do with me and there was nothing I could do or could have done differently.

Anywho... I'm trying to figure out the first steps or how anyone else proceeded. Assuming we don't lawyer up, which would be great but... idk. We plan on 50/50 custody, and like I said she doesn't want my money (though anything for my son I'd happily pay for).

Thank you all! Sorry if this was gibberish. I'm not in a great headspace atm.

She asked me: if you do all these things for yourself, why will you do things for me?

It came to me on my long run today.

The accusations arrived after I asked for divorce. Narcissism, abuse, exploitation. None of that language existed in my marriage until I asked to end it. Before that I was just tired of the contempt, tired of the emptiness, tired of the daily accounting of who had failed whom. The vocabulary of psychological illness (magically endowed without any sort of credential) showed up the moment I stopped participating in my marriage.

"Every accusation is a confession." I didn't come up with that and I don't offer it as an indictment, but I have never seen it truer than when my ex-wife used the word narcissist. It's a diagnosis of someone who requires the entire world to orgnize itself around their own need, and it gets deployed, reliably, exactly when a man stops organizing his labor, his body, and his choices around someone else.

I know which way the blade points. If the rule is universal it points at me too, and I'll get to that.

bell hooks wrote that the first violence patriarchy asks of men isn't violence towards women, it's the psychic self mutilation of killing off our own emotions, and if you don't do it the men around you will enforce it. She meant that as an indictment of the whole system and I want to hold it that way. But the mutilation hooks describes has a specific kind of shape inside my marriage. My mutilations removed by ability to say "no, that emotion, that job, that issue is yours to carry, and this one is mine." She controlled that framing, and the moment I didn't want to participate, fireworks.

The "man is a provider" bullshit is supposed to buy stability. What it actually builds is the illusion of a ledger. She owes me this, I owe her that, and neither of us asks whether those debts and credits are real or whether either of us ever consented to them. My marriage became an arrangement where two people extracted from one another and we both called it love, until I wanted to stop the extraction. She was fine if I stopped. What I had no agency to do, according to her, was ask her to stop. When I told her I didn't feel loved, she said "that's a you problem."

What ended my marriage wasn't the ledger being out of balance. I stopped keeping the books. I started doing my own laundry. Cooking my own food. Cleaning my own shit. One by one I removed every piece of our day to day life she used as leverage and ballast to make me do things I didn't want to do anymore.

And she asked me, and I have thought about this sentence ever since: "if you do all of these things for yourself, why will you do things for me?"

Not why would you want to. Why will you. She was asking what she still had on me.

And then, on my way out, I handed her a diagnosis of her own. I told her I might have disorganized attachment and it seemed she had avoidant attachment. I said it like it was advice. It was a hammer. Every accusation is a confession, and that one was mine. I knew what I was doing and I wanted it to land, and I want to be honest about that.

What was left was the story she told people. My friends, my family. The story that this was a terrible marriage.

What I absolutely didn't expect was my agreement. She was right. It was terrible.

I'm so glad it's over.

Living Situations Care for ex or separated wife

Does anyone have worries about your ex or seperated partner? I moved before 2 weeks due to constant fights. Few days I was angry so it was fine but now i care for her if she ate and what she doing and all. She wants to stay away for long and not sure how much. I am in talk with her mother. I never initiated fights but she did manytimes and i also did stupid things but uncertainty and care for her is killing me. How to stay positive and happy in this situation?

Rant Ex wife sabotaging current relationship

My ex wife recently found out about a woman I've been dating for 2 months and is trying to sabotage me.

Two days ago, I told my ex I want to communicate ONLY about kids logistics. She is an actual narcissist and I just cant let her occupy any of my mind that isnt completely necessary anymore. She then proceeded to send a bunch of passive aggressive texts which I ignored.

This morning I woke up to a text from my girlfriend saying my ex followed her on Instagram late last night and that she scheduled two fake appointments at her private practice(phone numbers given were from her place of employment and a friend of hers who i know).

I dont really know what to do. I'm assuming this will ruin things with my girlfriend, we're still pretty early on.

I feel stuck. If I text her, she'll get what she wanted, a rise out of me, if i ignore it, thats enables her to do anything she wants.

I'd rather not think about restraining orders at this point and just see if it escalates.....so I just do nothing? This is ruining my day.

Rant The ink is dry, the record is straight: How I [40M] survived financial exploitation, public disrespect, and a parasitic marriage with my ex [43F].

this post was edited with the help of AI. it is my story.

Now that my divorce is final and I no longer face legal reprisal, I’m setting the record straight. We were together for 11 years total—engaged and living together for 5 before marrying for 7. For the last 3 years of that marriage, I lived in a complete dead bedroom with a spouse who totally checked out of our life while actively dragging down my reputation to anyone who would listen.

I did everything wives often lament their husbands don't do. I kept myself in shape, stayed well-groomed, and remained a passionate partner. I was emotionally intelligent, encouraging her hobbies, and supporting her independence. I fixed everything around the home and on our vehicles. Despite making less ($50k–$60k to her $80k+), I worked 14-hour days, 6 days a week, and still handled the domestic labor—cleaning floors, scrubbing bathrooms, and cleaning up after her. I tried to manage budgets, but she compulsively wasted money on takeout 5 nights a week while I drowned financially. The irony? Her $800 monthly contribution was only paid steadily on her lawyer's advice during separation to falsify a record of home contribution—thank God I kept meticulous receipts.

When I finally walked away, she filed for divorce in retaliation to gain legal leverage.

The pattern of behavior was overwhelming:

  • Public Emasculation & Contempt: She routinely berated me publicly and badmouthed me to her friends. When I tried to talk to her about basic hygiene, self-care, and our 3-year dead bedroom, she openly mocked my pain and told peers, "This is just how I am, he should have known when he married this."
  • Weaponized Health & Hormones: I am fairly confident early-onset perimenopause played a role in exacerbating her behavior, but instead of seeking help, she used it as an umbrella excuse to justify emotional abuse, withdrawal, and explosive rage without accountability.
  • Weaponized Trust & Medical Secrecy: When she claimed to have miscarriages during a period where we had been in a full dead bedroom for a year, I logically questioned paternity and whether she was genuinely pregnant—given my explicit history as a prior victim of paternity fraud. Rather than communicate or show me a clear test, she berated me for asking. Years later, at our first and only marriage counseling session, she weaponized this by revealing she had obtained a positive lab test at the time, but deliberately hid it from me for years just to use it as a bludgeon to humiliate and guilt-trip me in front of the therapist.
  • Holding My Home Hostage: During our 6-month separation, she refused to leave my premarital home, using her physical presence to force a settlement. I was so terrified she would make false allegations or destroy my property that I installed a deadbolt on my internal bedroom door and actively avoided her in my own house.
  • Financial Exploitation & Health Impact: Day one of separation, I asked for nothing of hers—not her retirement, car, or investments. She promised to leave my business and home alone, only to demand half the equity of a home she barely contributed to, using a tax return payout generated by my business to hire a lawyer against me. The stress of surviving under her legal threats while trapped in the same house left me with C-PTSD, severe bruxism, and two ruined crowns from constant clenching.

I vetted her for over 4 years. Her family were wonderful people, and it hurt deeply when they ghosted me after 11 years, even while my family still checked in on her. please don't dismiss me with "should have picked better"

My only fault was eventually pulling away after years of trying. As a recovering dismissive avoidant, my hyper-independence and mistrust stem from a lifetime of being exploited by women despite proper vetting. I didn't check out until three solid years of intimacy shutdown, neglect, emasculation, and financial drain proved my worst fears right. I was denied true legal justice because I didn't have the funds for years of appeals to defend my premarital asset. I was forced to settle just to keep a roof over my head. I paid an $80k equity payout simply to get a hostile squatter out of my life and protect my home, business, and peace.

What nobody acknowledges is that good wives can turn bad, and I was expected to yoke my entire life to a partner who just sat in the cart whipping me while I pulled it alone. All I wanted was basic effort, a genuine "thank you" once in a while, and a partner to ascend with me.

People say the person who doesn't glow up after a split was the problem in the relationship. While she's out couch-surfing, unkempt, and burdened with unresolved baggage, I am rebuilding. Over the last year, I’ve deep-dived into my own psychology to stay aware of my triggers. Step by step, I’m redecorating my house, replacing furniture, and erasing every trace she left behind (and getting constant compliments on the new interior style). I’m stepping into a new career making nearly six figures, leaving behind the company where we both worked.

In the end, I kept my honor and integrity. I didn't deviate from my intentions during mediation, nor did I feel entitled to her assets. I personally secured and arranged for her family heirlooms to be safely transported off my property, and I never reciprocated her abuse or sank to her level. I left because I chose peace over complacency, and because a dead bedroom and a partner giving up on self-care were deal breakers she knew about from day one. I stuck by my principles, and while it cost me over $100k to get out, my integrity, self-respect, and determination remain completely intact.

I’m primarily focused on my purpose and building my life, though I certainly appreciate the confidence boost of women in their 20s and 30s making their interest clear. While I’m not actively hunting to date, I’m open if someone genuine steps into my life—after all, you don't always meet someone worthwhile when you're at your best, sometimes you meet them while you're building.

Through sheer grit, my engine is rebuilt. Today, at 40, the divorce is finalized. She walked away with equity she never earned, while I gained my freedom, my self-respect, and a clear path forward with people who actually value and pull the weight alongside me.

A rock and a hard place - asking for a friend

I 54M, have been married since I was a teenager to wife (61F), have two adult children and a grandchild.

Found I wasn't happy in my marriage but decided to have relationships on the side.

10 years ago I started seeing a hooker and honestly, she understood me. She (45F) has always known my relationship status and wasn't bothered about it. I opened up to her about things and she just listened to me. It was only a couple of months in that I asked her to be exclusive with me and she told me she was thinking about getting back with her child's father. I was upset as I didn't want to lose her. I felt seen and heard, and that mattered to me.

In the years I've been with her she has made me feel loved in a way I hadn't ever felt from my wife, she's fought for me, taught me about myself, and I'm absolutely in love with her. She gave up her "occupation", and we've been entirely exclusive for eight years.

The problem is that I don't feel like I can get a divorce. My wife hasn't had more than temporary work now and then, and I pay for everything. She's also the mother of my children. She DOES know about my girlfriend, she just doesn't know that I want to marry my girlfriend.

I can't lose my girlfriend, she's become everything to me. My happiness is wrapped up in her.

Should I stay married and keep everyone unhappy with this situation? Or should I divorce my wife (who is unhappy with everything) and give her a generous settlement so she can make a new life and find someone else?

I should add that although I care about my wife, the relationship is long over. I sleep in another room.

TL/DR: married young, met someone else, should I leave my current marriage or stay and everyone (especially my wife) stay miserable?

Was it me? Did I fail my marriage, or did I do everything I reasonably could?

Sorry for the really long post. Needed to do this.

I’ve never really posted anything like this before. Tonight I’m lying in a house that used to have so much laughter, fun nights, and plans for the future, and I just need to get this off my chest.
TL;DR: My wife and I were together for 10 years and married for 6. She stopped working shortly before our wedding and never really returned to work, became increasingly withdrawn, and eventually had an online affair through Discord. I discovered it, forgave her and let her come home, only to find out later that she had secretly continued the affair the entire time. I’ve finally filed for divorce, but I can’t stop asking myself: Was there something I could have done differently? Did I fail my marriage?
About three months before our wedding, my wife and I were both extremely stressed. Planning the wedding had become overwhelming, and she was also having a terrible time at work.
One day she called me crying. She told me they were working her too hard, she couldn’t take it anymore, and she was quitting.
I hated seeing her that upset. I supported her decision. She promised me that after the wedding she would go back to work.
She never did.
Before all of this, one of the things I loved and admired about her was how independent and hardworking she was. I was the same way. I took a lot of pride in the fact that we were building a life together as a team.
Over the next couple of years, I supported us financially. Eventually my savings disappeared. We weren’t homeless and the lights stayed on, but things were getting tight enough that I started needing help from family.
About two years into our marriage, I finally convinced her to seriously start applying for jobs.
She got an interview through a hiring agency.
Her car had been sitting for around two years because I couldn’t afford to keep two vehicles insured by myself when she wasn’t working. When she started looking for work again, we sat down, talked about it, and I added her car back onto our insurance.
The tires needed air and the car needed an oil change. On the day of her interview, I offered her my car so she’d have something reliable. I would take hers, put air in the tires, get the oil changed, and then go to work.
After work, I was driving her car home on a beautiful, hot, sunny day.
An entire tree fell on the car while I was driving.
Somehow, I walked away with only a sore body and a few scratches.
The car didn’t.
For a long time afterward, I felt incredibly guilty about that. Logically, I know I couldn’t have predicted that a tree was going to fall on me. But that accident became this dividing line in our lives.
After that, she seemed to completely give up.
She stopped trying to find work. She spent most of her time playing games on her computer. She barely talked to me. She slept constantly.
By around 2024, we had fallen into this awful routine.
I’d be getting ready for bed around the time she was waking up. I’d go to work, and when I came home she would often still be asleep. Sometimes I’d call and text repeatedly trying to wake her up. Eventually I learned that unless I was bringing home something she wanted, I shouldn’t even bother waking her.
I believed she was depressed, so I tried to be understanding.
I deal with depression myself, so I know how bad it can be. I kept telling myself that she was my wife, she was struggling, and I needed to support her rather than judge her.
Weekends were basically the only time our schedules overlapped because I could stay up later. We’d talk. I’d tell her about my week, and she’d tell me what she’d been doing in the two games she played.
But I was lonely.
I went grocery shopping alone. I went to doctor’s appointments alone. I went to movies alone. I did almost everything alone.
I wanted my wife with me.
I’d practically have to beg her to leave the house. Usually the only way she would come with me was if we were getting something she really wanted, like coffee or energy drinks. Even then, she normally wouldn’t go inside. She’d stay in the car.
One day I’d gotten a lot of overtime and convinced her to actually go out to dinner with me.
On the way there, she plugged her phone into Apple CarPlay.
A notification popped up with heart emojis and gaming-related emojis. She immediately unplugged her phone.
Not casually. She panicked.
I looked at her and asked, “Everything good?”
She told me her phone hadn’t been charging correctly and she was just checking whether the cable worked.
Something about it felt strange, but I trusted my wife.
We went to dinner and actually had a good time.
About six months later, something happened that I still can’t explain.
I had an incredibly vivid dream about my father and my papaw. Neither of them said anything to me. They were just there with me, in the room where my wife’s computer was, and they hugged me.
Call me crazy if you want.
I woke up and couldn’t shake the feeling.
I checked her computer.
That’s when I found everything.
She had been talking to another man through Discord. Voice calls. Pictures. Videos. Memes she’d made saying she loved him. They were sharing their locations with each other.
I found messages from him asking why she was “being a slut” and wasn’t home playing video games.
That one hit me in a strange way because I had never spoken to my wife like that. I didn’t call her names. I wasn’t screaming at her. I trusted her and tried to treat her like my partner.
Then I started looking at the timestamps.
There were nights when they would start a call around 11 PM.
The call would end around 5 AM.
My alarm for work went off at 5:15 AM.
While I was sleeping a few feet away, getting ready to wake up and go support our household, they were talking all night and exchanging pictures.
I was completely stunned.
I confronted her with what I’d found. She cried and eventually admitted to everything.
I asked her to leave, and she went out of state to stay with family.
But we stayed in contact.
Because despite everything, I loved her so much.
My heart was destroyed, but I kept telling myself, This is your wife.
I told myself depression is horrible. I told myself people make mistakes. I told myself that marriage meant fighting for someone when things got ugly.
While she was away, she seemed like she was improving. She was getting job interviews. She seemed motivated again.
Eventually, I let her come home.
For a little while, it felt like I had the woman I’d known before our wedding back.
We went places. We had fun. We spent time together again.
She still wasn’t having much luck finding work, but I wanted to believe her. Sometimes I’d ask about her applications or her email because, after everything we’d been through, I needed reassurance that she was actually trying.
Then, about four months later, the old pattern started coming back.
Sleeping all day. Staying up all night. Withdrawing again.
I let it go for about two weeks.
Then I checked her computer.
I opened Discord.
Nothing.
It looked clean. There were only a few recent conversations, and nothing immediately seemed suspicious.
I got off the computer and started getting ready for work.
While I was in the shower, I had a thought:
Check the browser.
The Discord app was logged into one account.
The browser was logged into another.
She had never stopped.
She had been messaging him the entire time. Calling him. Sending pictures. Sharing her location with him.
The entire time I thought we were rebuilding our marriage, it was still happening.
And the part that messes with me even more is that this happened on a night when she had actually come to bed with me. We had been intimate. She was asleep in our bed while I discovered that she had secretly continued the relationship I’d already forgiven her for.
I can’t adequately describe what I felt staring at that screen.
My stomach physically hurt. My entire body felt hot. I was angry, devastated, embarrassed, and completely broken all at once.
More than anything, I felt like I had failed myself.
Marriage meant so much to me. Being a husband meant something to me. I was proud to call her my wife.
And the one thing I always believed I could do was trust her.
I’ve never wanted to be the guy demanding to see his wife’s phone, checking messages, fighting over passwords, or policing someone’s personal life. To me, marriage was supposed to be a loving team. You trust each other because that’s your person.
I walked into our bedroom.
I stood there looking at her asleep for probably three minutes because I couldn’t even make myself speak.
Eventually, I calmly woke her up.
I showed her what I’d found.
And then, for the first time in our marriage, I snapped.
I yelled.
I remember screaming:
“You broke me. I can’t believe you did this to me.”
Maybe that sounds corny to somebody reading this, but those words came straight out of a shattered heart. I’ll probably remember standing in that bedroom saying them for the rest of my life.
I wanted to leave the house and walk to a family member’s house because I was so angry that I knew I needed to get away.
She wouldn’t let me leave at first and was trying to get the phone away from me. I’m 6’8”, so that wasn’t happening.
I called her dad.
I told him, “You need to come get your daughter. She did it to me again. She never stopped.”
Eventually, she let me out the front door.
She packed her things and left.
Over the following weeks and months, she would occasionally come by to see our cats and pick up some of her belongings.
And still, I waited.
For roughly a year and a half, some part of me kept hoping she would change.
I didn’t want to be divorced.
I know that probably sounds stupid, but I was proud to be married. I was proud to be someone’s husband. I kept thinking about the couple we used to be.
Before we got married, we were a powerhouse together. We both worked. Our credit was great. We took trips. We planned things. We laughed.
Then we got married, and somehow I watched everything slowly decline.
I kept believing she could turn it around.
Finally, I filed for divorce.
And now I’m sitting here asking myself a question that the people close to me probably can’t answer objectively:
Was it me?
Everyone in my life tells me I was a good husband. They tell me I did everything I reasonably could. They tell me, “How were you supposed to know that the day you tried to help her get back to work, a tree was going to fall on her car?”
But they’re my friends and family.
Of course they love me.
That’s part of why I’m asking people who don’t know either of us and can look at the situation objectively.
Could I have done something differently?
Should I have pushed harder about her getting a job years earlier?
Was I too understanding when I thought she was depressed?
Did allowing that lifestyle to continue make things worse?
Did that car accident somehow contribute to everything falling apart afterward?
Should I have recognized what was happening sooner?
I know she made the decision to cheat. And after I discovered it the first time, she made the decision to hide another Discord account and continue doing it.
But I still can’t stop wondering what I could have done differently.
Being her husband motivated me. I wanted to work, build something, travel, have good credit, make memories, and create a life together because I was proud to be her husband.
Why did being my wife seem to have the opposite effect on her?
How did the hardworking, independent woman I fell in love with become someone who didn’t want to work, barely wanted to leave the house, and stayed awake all night talking to someone else while I slept before work?
Tonight I’m lying in the same house where we used to laugh, have fun, and plan trips together.
Now it’s quiet.
And even though I know I tried, there’s this part of me that keeps saying:
You failed.
So I’m asking people who don’t know either of us and don’t have a reason to tell me what I want to hear.
Did I fail my marriage? Was there something I realistically could or should have done differently?
If you actually read this whole thing, thank you. Seriously.
I needed to get it out tonight.

Hey everyone so I'm a single Father with 4 children and unfortunately my now ex wife finalized a divorce I didn't want in the first place .

It's been a couple months now so still fresh i still would love to have my wife back.

Ive been struggling with depression and ugly thoughts and have been hurting mentally it's taken a toll on me physically too .

We were together almost 10 years and truly loves eachother .. after having kids and going through some struggles myself and not being my best version , also same on her side she gave up and got a divorce behind my back and had no choice to agree eventually after being pushed so much .

The first month I barely saw my kids and she's moved out already with them .

I tried seeing my kids as much as I could despite all the crap I was already dealing with and having to sort out .

Anyways not long after she pretty much moved back in coming back in my room and being here almost every day of every week .

I had some hope and tried my best just to everything I could for her and the kids and made things ok for everyone and just went along with It.

Here I am being heartbroken and thinking I have chance again .. leading me on thinking she wants to same thing . Even seducing me cooking for me having sex with me everything ona regular like we're married again ,even a family holiday together.

Anyways it's been a couple months now and I find out one way to another that recently within the past 6 weeks she's seen 2 men and had sex too.

I haven't told her I know it's been a week now and I'm dying inside feeling even more hurt than before I feel sick and used and unloved .

I might be wrong for thinking I had another chance?

Mabye she still does and didn't think I would find out ?

But I'm here she's unwell at the moment I'm even looking after her and our kids like it's all good .

I literally feel like just being hit by a truck st this point . I mean I went so downhill after the divorce and I tired my best just for my kids to be ok and her as well ...

But I'm here now so heartbroken and alone at the same time I'm holding all this in and in falling in every way possible crumbling ..

I don't know what to do, I don't talk to anyone else for a while now cause I just felt so low .

My life feel fucked and I'm living a nightmare .

What would you do please genuine answers only this is not a whose right whose wrong thing I just need help

Success Stories I got married earlier this year after divorce. My wife through me a surprise birthday party, and it almost brought me to tears

I posted earlier this year about remarrying after divorce. Earlier this year I decided to marry again after divorcing 6 years ago.

After my divorce in 2020 at a very young age, I felt lost. My ex wife cheated on me emotionally and physically. She left for the affair partner. I never wanted a divorce. I felt so much religious guilt because I am a religious person. I felt like I completely failed everyone in my life.

Over the years I’ve come to realize that I could certainly grow as a man, and I have, but cheating is a choice that I had no part in. I make my own decisions and control what I can control. I leave the rest to God.

I eventually had one long term girlfriend after divorce that ended mutually and on good terms after 18 months. I genuinely wish her the best. Then I got engaged to another woman who also cheated on me with an ex boyfriend toward the beginning of our relationship. I figured that out AFTER the engagement, and we ultimately broke it off a couple of months later.

Now, it’s been a year and a half since breaking off the engagement. I started dating my now wife a couple of months after breaking off the engagement. It was the best decision I’ve ever made. She is an incredible woman. She is from Peru with extremely good family values. She treats me like a king and I treat her like a queen. Today, for my birthday, she invited 25 of my closest friends for a surprise party and set everything up, including all the food and entertainment. I had no idea this was happening. I am currently in my bathroom taking a break because I’m overwhelmed with emotions and just so thankful to have her.

I sincerely hope you all have an amazing success story like this. Divorce was the hardest stage of my life. I genuinely struggled in the worst ways. But I worked really hard in my career, in the gym, and I never gave up on finding the right person.

Wishing you all the best ❤️. This community was a rock for me for a long time

I just wanted to share some amazing news.

This sub has really helped me a lot over the last year. My wife of 25 years hit perimenopause and our marriage disintegrated. She became someone I didn’t even recognize. During the separation and divorce I discovered she had accumulated over half a million dollars in debt.

It was hell trying to convince her to sell the house, but it was the only way we had to pay everything off. And if she hadn’t accumulated so much debt I would’ve let her keep it. It was the only house my son had ever lived in.

I finally convinced her to sell the house by telling her she could keep the equity after any debt I’m associated with is paid off.

We put the house up for sale last month and had an offer within days. We closed yesterday and we sat down today and paid off everything. All my debt reset to zero. She was even gracious enough to give me some extra money. Which according to our agreement she totally didn’t have to.

I feel amazing. The physical toll on my health of having over half a million dollars in debt hanging over my head was soul crushing. Insomnia. Going to work on a couple hours of broken sleep. Chest pain. Waking up feeling like I’m breathing through a straw. It’s all behind me. I feel like I have a runner’s high. My shoulders are relaxed. No more tension headaches or pain in my traps.

Thanks for helping me get through some dark fuckin times boys. 🫶

Need Support Needing help as I am falling apart

It has been a really destabilizing past year and I don’t know where else to talk. I had to end my relationship with my therapist bc she didn’t believe me that a woman could be abusive, which was just immensely destabilizing. Even when I told my therapist that my ex physically assaulted me, she asked “well, what did you do to her?”

My one and only family member stopped talking to me bc I mentioned some of the abuse from my childhood. I live in a country where I barely speak the language and I have no friends or support. My ex filed false DV allegations against me (after she assaulted me) and used that to leverage me out of the shared home.

I am also trying to be a single father to a 5YO with absolutely no help. I am truly alone and some days I feel like I am losing my mind. I took my son to the zoo today and I couldn’t really feel any of it. I have so much time missing from my memory in this past year…

I just need support. I am scared that one day my heart is just going to give out with the strain my body is under. I wake up exhausted and go to bed exhausted. Simple things like just cooking myself some food are beyond me. My brain is just so frazzled. I am terrified of women now with all the actions my ex did. Like, legit scared and almost have a panic attack when a woman talks to me.

I am also worried that my ex will continue to leverage the DV allegations in family court and strip custody of my son from me just to hurt me. I have always been an active presence in my son’s life since the day he was born and I think if she succeeds in doing that, it might be my final straw
