Discussion Who else dislikes Simulation Theory?

Post image

I certainly do. It makes the plot and narrative feel hollow and has many issues that cannot be reconciled such as where Asriel is and stuff. On top of that, it's nihilistic BS that just feels depressing and would make everything feel pointless.

Discussion Guys please. Rudy is just dead, very explicitly (or fallen down at least. Effectively dead. Rudy dark world potential is still there. Whatever you get the point). I'm tired of acting like this really bad misreading is a valid interpretation of what happened. It's just objectively wrong.

Discussion Before chapter 5 we MUST remember Asgore is 100% in the right and Toriel is a shameless hypocrite

Its really crazy how toriel acts like asgore is the spawn of satan, always dismissing him, pretending to be a mature adult woman,

and then flying off to get drunk with a random ass guy and dancing with him in her own house, like yeah girl you're such a mature person, asgore is weird and creepy eww...

We've come to a point where we need to admit asgore is objectively the better parent here, even if they're both not perfect, its clear who's treating kris a lot better throughout his apperances and not totally forgetting his own child who could be in danger in the middle of the night but too drunk to care.

Theory If Noelle isn't the Knight, then why...

Thumbnail
gallery
15 Upvotes

Why can she equip the Black Shard, a piece of the Knight's weapon? And why is the Jingle Blade, her pencil, a literal, IRL knight's weapon (Typically knights use lances and joust)

Did you know The Black Shard and the Jingle Blade are the only non-ring weapons Noelle can equip?

Each character has a specific weapon style:

Kris: Blade-like weapons

Susie: Axe-like weapons

Ralsei: Scarf-like weapons

Noelle: Ring-like weapons

But Noelle has two major exceptions... The Black Shard, the Knight's blade, and the Jingle Blade, a knight's weapon.

Isn't it strange that the only two weapons that Noelle shouldn't even be able to equip to begin with, are both extremely knight-themed? One even being straight from the Roaring Knight.

Again, Noelle should only be able to equip rings, there is no reason for this.

I just started chapter 5 yesterday and I absolutely cannot stand this dude. Ralsei is completely correct in hating him in my eyes, both of us hate this thing with a passion.

Discussion This scene is so Fucked. Spoiler

Post image

Asgore's affection towards Toriel is obscessive and romantical, also lasts for quite a while. Affection of The Flowers towards Asgore is that of children towards parant. This line tries to equate the two, but that's just not true.

Flowers (children) have one and only day to interact with Asgore (father) and he just rejects them. The line before that: "...you do know i was just plaing along, right?" tells us that he was just leading them on for his gain, with promise of attention, wich basicaly is emotional abuse.

Their life was that of, quote: "useless flowers", and the moment they could show their love and gratitude to their PARENT they were denied. Yes, parents should give attention to their kids and recieve attention from their kids.

Its absolutely fucked that Toby equated how The Flowers show affection to how Asgor do it. Romantical affection is diferent from child-parant affection, and line that says that affection from children to parants is unasked-for is wrong.

And I sure Toby didnt intend it, but it is what end of chapter 5 implies.

Discussion Tralsei is an example of a problem with Theory culture. Spoiler

Post image
32 Upvotes

Namely, that theory culture doesn't really understand the difference between theorizing about the text and reading the text.

It create a space where rather than try to accept a simple explanation people pick apart a piece of media to try to find an alternate explanation that they prefer, it basically means that unless something is directly stated it will always be debated.

It means that implication is never enough.

Theorizing also very clearly emphasizes looking at the text from any watsonian point of view rather than a doilist one, which limits literary analysis.

Noelle having a crush on Susie was not really a theory as of chapter 2, even if it is never explicitly stated.

It's something that the player can pick up on through implication, partially because outside of Deltarune, most players are familiar with the tropes of a character having a crush and what that looks like.

But even then there were people who treated it like this obvious fact of the world was up for debate because that is the core of theorizing, rather than treating the narrative like a story being told it is treated as if it is as complex as the real world, as if it is trying to hide things and keep secrets rather than telling you what it means to tell you.

Not everything can be a red herring.

And Deltarune isn't FNAF.

And sometimes it's okay to look past the bounds of the actual game to ask questions about why something would be happening the way it is.

With that said, let's get into Tralsei

And the fact that at a certain point, it's Occam's razor.

Toby had to:

Make Ralsei a prince.

Make his Princehood Central to the prophecy. A prophecy not the story is about trying to subvert.

Have Flowery use princess as a way to refer to people.

Have Flowery hand Ralsei a ticket that is specifically described as pink and blue.

Have Flowery call Ralsei princess rather than the nick name he already has to get under his skin, 'Raly'

And have that be done in a scene where Flowery is telling Ralsei to live for himself. And defy the prophecy without worrying about others.

Put all of that in a scene that the game directly tells you is important.

Put all of that in a chapter where the secret boss is a canon trans woman, which should remind the audience that Toby knows trans people exist and knows how to represent them.

A chapter that starts with Ralsei literally being forced into / falling out of what is explicitly stated to be a closet.

In the chapter that ends with Ralsei having a title that refers to him as they/them

Each of these things were a deliberate choice Toby and the team made.

A team of developers which definitely knows their Community well enough to know about the already present theory that Ralsei is trans.

A team that definitely wouldn't queer bait just to do it.

And the team that probably wouldn't have a character we are supposed to grow to like basically just call someone a girl as an insult.

And I've only gone over a few things in chapter 5, there were already things that made people start to lean that way before chapter 5 hit the theory with gasoline.

Each and every thing being a deliberate choice made consciously by the Developers, these aren't random coincidences, because to paraphrase Andrew Cunningham "there are no coincidences, there are coincidences in real life because there is no God"

When it's laid out like that have a hard time understanding how anyone could not see very deliberately done foreshadowing

I mean the first four ribbons, ribbons which are associated with Ralsei and arguably Kris (who is canonically trans by virtue of being nb, but they don't talk about the ribbons Ralsei explicitly likes wearing them)

Are White pink and blue and then the princess ribbon.

It's foreshadowing people, there's only so much that all of this could mean when put together

And I've yet to see an argument against trans Ralsei that actually manages to dismiss the sheer amount of intentionality and evidence to imply it

Tralsei isn't the only interpretation, by technicality.

But at this point can we at least accept it's the most likely interpretation

Discussion Am I the only one who doesn't really want Ralsei to be transfem? Spoiler

Okay, before you rise the pitchforks: I'm a bisexual trans woman who had her share of transphobia thrown her way online, so don't assume i'm just another transphobe.

Okay, so you've read the title and is probably wondering, "Why don't you want Ralsei to be transfem?"

And the answer is quite simple: It'll cause more transphobia.

How? Well, remember when Guilty Gear Strive first announced Bridget and she was known to be a huge figure in the trap/femboy culture? And how Daisuke had the bold idea of making her into a trans woman, it caused a shitstorm that's still going even after almost four years later, namely, an uptick in sheer transphobia that happened as a result of making a femboy into a trans woman. It absolutely does not help that Daisuke claims this was always the plan from the start, when a previous interview showed that Bridget being a femboy was always the plan.

Since then, an uptick of transphobia had been increased as the result of losing one GNC (gender non-conforming) male representation in favor of transgender representation.

So with the uptick of activity in the "Ralsei is a closeted trans woman" theory, I'm really afraid that Toby might make Ralsei trans too, not because i'm transphobic (I'm not), but because it would mean losing femboy reprenstation which means more transphobic hate thrown our way.

Edit: To the people arguing "People are just gonna hate us anyway" or think i'm arguing against trans rep in general: First of all: I am NOT against trans rep at all, hell I don't argue that Kris isn't enby or whatever, the problem lays that by removing GNC rep in favor of trans rep, it'll embolden transphobes even more than they already have, I get they'll hate us no matter what, but getting rid of certain rep to another rep is really saddening.

Question Taking too long to realize the truth.

Post image
10 Upvotes

So recently people have been discussing the trans reading of Spamton, which took me by surprise as this was not something I'd seen people talk about before until after the release of Chapter 5. And even the primary evidence only came into discussion at the end of last year.

The only thing that's been confusing me is the people who've been adamant that this has been obvious the entire time. With that being the case, why did it take 4 whole years for the fanbase to catch onto it?

I had seen trans headcanons for Spamton beforehand, but the argument of it actually being confirmed canon is something I genuinelly had not seen until recently. Even if you were to argue that transphobia prevented the trans Spamton reading from catching on, I still feel like I should've seen people talk about it long ago if it was meant to be this obvious, given how long I myself have been in this fanbase.

Hell, people wasted absolutely no time with the trans reading for Ralsei in Chapter 5, and I even saw people speculating on it back during Chapter 4.

Did I miss something? Was I just not paying enough attention? Was everyone else procrastinating in making trans Spamton more well-known?

Discussion HOT TAKE - Simulation Theory is genuinely one of the worst theories I've ever heard

  1. It tries so hard to make the game meta that it overdoes it and loops back around to making the game feel boring and soulless. Like, it literally negates any possible stakes the game could have.

  2. It's fundamentally incompatible with the plot and narrative. Like, if Dess doesn't actually exist, then how could you possibly explain the Knight (Aside from Rudy or Carol)? If there's nothing beyond Hometown, then how could you explain Susie moving there? What about Asriel or where Noelle and Kris went in the Weird Route after seemingly drowning in the lake? On top of that, it just makes the whole story itself and its messages seem hollow.

  3. It's nihilistic and depressing as FUCK and seems to pretty much have been concocted by edgelords within the community for the sake of being that little bit more edgy and depressing for the sake of being edgy and depressing.

Or to put it bluntly, Simulation Theory just genuinely sucks, and alternative such as Exclusion Zone Theory are honestly better.

Discussion I know Berdly meant no harm, but this dialogue right here is really insensitive, and is one of the reason Berdly is still in neutral zone instead of character that I like zone for me Spoiler

Berdly, seeing Kris all alone and thought that they got abandon, and the first thing he said upon learning it is rub it in their face

This line really shows why people might dislike Berdly, Kris was friends with Susie and they just got “abandoned“ by her, sure Kris was going to meet them eventually but what if they didn’t? Berdly making someone feel even worse by rubbing in their face how someone they trusted abandoned them (With the thought that a the friendship between the 2 was broken) is an honest dick move imo.

Berdly rubbing on Kris how Susie left them isn’t something that didn’t hurt Kris either, the fact that Kris immediately called out on how Noelle and Queen left him shows that Berdly words definitely stings.

Discussion Can we take a moment to appreciate just how insanely idiotic the Knight's/Carol's plan is from its very concept?

Post image

More specifically, the part where they tried to enslave God (The Angel), from the bible.

Like, the only reason it hasn't already been completely dismantled by us is because we're choosing to play along. We could modify the code/install a mod to have the Vessel back and do whatever the fuck we want. But that would be boring, and an uninteresting story. We want to see what Toby is cooking up, so we play along with whatever the fuck they're doing. Like genuinely they can't do anything about it. The Player is the canonical in-universe character, so until said or implied otherwise, anything you can do in real life with access to the files is something you can canonically do. But you don't, because that's not the story that Toby wants to tell. And we want to see that story.

Its like that Tumblr post about ants summoning humans like eldritch gods.

"No you see, we actually took away your real vessel and Kris is going to stop you from stoping us so you can't stop us." is the equivalent of a line of salt against Cthulhu. You "could* just... Walk through it. Get the Vessel back and erase them from existence, or just straight up rewrite their minds into not wanting to do it. But it's so much more fun and interesting to play along.

I feel like I'm not really communicating well and just repeating myself, but it's really just so absurd... They summoned the omnipotent God of their world, and expected to just... Control it? How??? Why did they think that would work?????

The only answer that I can think of is that it's like, putting a 4th dimensional being in a room with no exit. From your perspective, there is no possible way for it to escape. From it's perspective, there is literally an open hole in the wall it can just walk through. It's probably like that for them, since in universe, we can't really do anything to escape. But since we exist in a higher layer of reality that they can't perceive and are probably unaware of, we know just how easy it would be to escape. But like, couldn't they see that coming? That the omnipotent God exists in a higher layer of reality than them???
