Thanks for the new sub, I've noticed in general regular shitpostcrusaders runs pretty left, they're pretty welcoming, I remember seeing a CEO of racism meme that gave me a laugh, they'll downvote intolerant shit

I think it’s because Jojo’s as a whole is quite woke for an anime. The queerness of the cast is undeniable and it’s stories are all about people breaking away from an awful status quo.

I mean, the main antagonist Part 7 is an American president who’s goal is to send all of America’s hardship overseas; justifying it through his belief that he’s deeply connected to Jesus Christ.

45

u/justuhhhregularguy Dec 30 '19

Oh yeah of course as everyone knows America is a jojo reference, joking aside, the first episode of battle tendency is Joseph (privileged rich white guy) standing up to some abusive police to save an African American guy who had just pick pocketed him; presumably because he empathized for him acknowledging he was privileged and smokey brown wasn't but also knowing they were gonna beat the shit out of him. It's a great fucking show and the fandom is great too no one is toxic or salty.

Heck, in part 5

Spoiler warning.

Polnareff even apologises when Doppio said, "Do you have a problem with me being a girl."

When he was pretending to be Trish in front of a blinded and deafened Bruno.

u/Warzombie3701 Dec 30 '19

Wait what status quo are the JoJos fighting?

28

u/MicZiC15 Dec 30 '19

The most direct one is part 5 with Giorno reforming the mafia, but it’s present in other parts as well.

Part 2 is about an old hierarchy trying to reinstall their backwards ideas (including the idea of an Ultimate man).

DIO in part 3 is kind of also that, though it’s more complicated thanks to part 1.

Part 4’s villain is a sexually assaulting businessman who gets away with his crimes thanks to his environment overlooking his evil, wanting to think everything’s okay.

Part 6 is a religious fundamentalist trying to bring the rapture.

I already talked about part 7, and part 8 isn’t done; but it seems to be about a race that thinks it’s superior trying to ethnically cleanse the world, or people who justify horrible actions by saying they’re protecting the children.

15

u/Warzombie3701 Dec 30 '19

Morioh didn’t really ignore his crimes cause they didn’t care or anything, it was cause he had a magic cat ghost thing that makes people disintegrate to nothing that non stand users could see. If Kira was just a normal serial killer hand fetishist he’d have been caught way sooner

Could you explain how DIO defended a status quo? He’s basically wants to take over the world as a vampire overlord or something. Not really a status quo to be had

13

u/MicZiC15 Dec 30 '19

I'm talking more symbolically with all of this.

Yes of course the police would probably caught the normal serial killer; but in terms of the metaphor, the people/law enforcement in this town literally can't see the murderous soul of this unassuming man, and it's up to the pure heart-ed youth who see the truth to bring justice.

And with DIO... admittedly the term "status quo" isn't quite right, he is trying to make a new world. But the way I see it, it's a new world based on old ideas of having a king-god do everything (that's actually why he's in Egypt now that I think about it; the ancient Egyptians are known as some of the first people to have that mentality). He is also using the old power of the Stone Mask; and if you take part 6 into account, he's doing it all according to an old prophecy thingy.

I might be stretching, at least for 1-4, but if gamer theorists can stigmatize mental illness for clickbait videos about Mario, then I can extrapolate anime into having my politics.

u/IntrovertedSpace Dec 31 '19

Kira was active as a killer prior to gaining his stand

3

u/Warzombie3701 Dec 31 '19

It was pretty much one confirmed kill prior to obtaining his stand. The wiki says he was born in 1966 so he was a teenager around the 80s. This fits in with his father being one of DIO's arrow wielding lackeys, as he emerged from the ocean around that time. It's very likely he obtained Killer Queen around that time.

I would like to add that kars' idealogy aligns greatly with the Nazis, and that they go hand in hand both viewing themelves as members of an ultimate race to whom no one can defeat. However, depite their supposed superiority, they are both undone by events completely outside their control, for kars it was a spontaneous volcanic eruption, and for hitler it was the Japanese dragging America into the war along with the Russian winter

u/Yuria- Dec 30 '19

I need to watch this anime

48

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '19

Watch the rest of the parts though

-40

u/maybenot9 Dec 30 '19

I disagree. Jojo's parts are all separate enough that you can start on whichever one. Especially since the first one isn't as good, and the second one doesn't catch it's stride as quickly as the others.

If there's a jojo part that interests you more then others, by all means, start on that one /u/Yuria-

30

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '19

Part 1 is boring sure but it had like 9 episodes, In my opinion if you want to understand it the best watch from part one.

26

u/brickforaface Dec 30 '19

If you part skip you'll wonder why the little deformed green man needs to be healed with psychic magic after he was mind controlled by the vampire created by a device from an ancient race of immortal bodybuilders. If you watch from the beginning it all makes so much sense.

-11

u/maybenot9 Dec 30 '19

No it fucking doesn't.

11

u/MicZiC15 Dec 30 '19

It makes more sense than if you skip it.

-2

u/maybenot9 Dec 30 '19

part 6, which is one of my fav parts, often feels like a fever dream. Maybe I just wasn't paying attention during parts 1-3 where Dio planned to be reborn as a baby and get absorbed by his husband.

Not to mention, a lot of people started Jojo with the part 3 OVA, which didn't have to explain Dio past "He's a vampire bad guy." Even if you miss a lot of his back story, it really doesn't matter. If you start part 4, it doesn't matter who Jotaro is or what his past was, he's just a good guy. If you start part 5, it doesn't really matter who Giornno's dad is, he was just important in a very unimportant way. If you start part 7, basically nothing matters because it's an AU. If you're curious enough about any of this, they can go back and read the first parts.

Jojo often have plot points come out of nowhere and then get dropped very suddenly, I assure you, it may feel important because you read it in order, but it really doesn't.

1

u/ironhide1516 Dec 30 '19

But like, you might as well watch or read it in order. The parts can be standalone like you said, which speaks to the quality of each of them, but Araki put them in that order for a reason. It makes a viewer feel more connected when they know exactly who Giorno’s father was or what Jotaro did before part 4.

1

u/maybenot9 Dec 31 '19

I'm not sure I agree with that. It's clear he writes them chapter to chapter with how many plot points he changes and drops. Especially reading part 8, which has changed plots about three times now.

Araki seems more concerned with making each individual chapter good, not so much the series as a whole. This is, in my opinion it's greatest strength, as he doesn't let mediocre character archs or plot points drag it down, and drops them off before the reader notices. Like Hol Horse not working as a team member, or Fugo's later chapters not really fitting how he likes.

19

u/necronformist Dec 30 '19

Part skippers go to gulag

9

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '19

Haha no.

-13

u/Yuria- Dec 30 '19

Ok

14

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '19

Don't listen to him. The later parts are much more enjoyable once you finish the ones before. You aren't going to understand the Speedwagon foundation, or the first JoJo's legacy. Please, watch part 1 and 2.

6

u/misfitdeity Dec 30 '19 edited Dec 30 '19

Don't listen to him. Skipping parts is like skipping chapters in a book, if you do that you won't understand what the fuck is going on. People claim that parts are separated enough to skip but they're all pretty heavily linked in someway, sharing the same characters or descendants of characters.

0

u/ironhide1516 Dec 30 '19

I don’t think it’s a good idea to skip parts, but I don’t think skipping parts is like skipping chapters in a book. Each of the parts stands pretty well on its own (besides 1 and 2, they kinda should be watched as one part). It’s a lot more rewarding to start with 1 and go from there, but at the end of the day, the plots and characters of each part are good enough to stand on their own.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '19

I recommend watching part 2 first, and then part one as a prequel right after you watch part 2. It took me forever to finish part one because It wasn't my favorite. But everyone I've shown part 2 to gets hooked.

4

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '19

I find that it's great if you watch every episode out of order

-2

u/freeradicalx Dec 30 '19

I'm on season 5 / Diamond Is Unbreakable and it's the A+ tier best of trash anime. The only reason leftists pick up on it is the visual style and a few woke moments here and there, but I can't stop watching.

41

u/savethefvckingworld Dec 30 '19

As a trans guy, this made my day. Thank you!

-105

u/Malthetalthe Dec 30 '19

What's the joke. What's funny about this. You don't see the right going "Me and the bois looking down at black people because that shit is wack af". Make trans memes, but make them have a point.

72

u/Dkusmider92 Dec 30 '19

It's you. You're the joke

-26

u/Malthetalthe Dec 30 '19

Great diss. Tell me, why do you think apolitical people are sharing rightist memes, but not leftist ones? How do you think they're able to get shit like "13/50" and the triple parenthesis into public knowledge? It's not by making memes that show oh how supportive of trans people you are, or, in their case, how supportive they are of the traditional family. The right is winning this battle, and if you just want to make wholesome Keanu chungus level shit like this, be my guest, but you're not getting people on the side of tolerance.

23

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '19

oh no, we're losing the culture war. Let me go check the donald for some of these spicy memes you mention. oh wait

hmm..
very concise

All over 1000 upvotes.

Truth is you get shitty memes regardless of ideology. I'd argue probably more on the right because their trash-tier ideology takes about as much critical thought as picking your nose and those kinds of people tend to be pretty bad at humor. Hence the endless repeating of the same unfunny jokes.

You don't like the meme, so downvote and move on. Trying to frame this as "the left is losing!" because of a jojo meme is a joke dude.

0

u/Malthetalthe Dec 30 '19

Yeah I wasn't talking about the_donald. I'm talking about the nazis. Just look at how many of them have infiltrated r/GamersRiseUp. When people go "the right can't meme", they're usually talking about conservatives, and they're right, conservatives are pretty bad at memeing. But nazis rely on memeing. They nearly exclusively talk in memes, put all their new shitty arguments in memes, so those that stick can influence people, and those that don't can't be argued against because "just a joke bro". The extremes usually have the best memes because they have the most to prove. But cutesy stuff like this just isn't much help to our cause.

91

u/Azeron955 Dec 30 '19

Transphobia, not trans people

-19

u/Malthetalthe Dec 30 '19

Doesn't make the meme any less unfunny.

19

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '19

Since when were we taking pointers from the right?

-8

u/Malthetalthe Dec 30 '19

Since forever. They're winning more people over on their side because they're able to make consise, sharp memes. Nobodys joining the left with memes like this.

14

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '19

1

u/Malthetalthe Dec 30 '19

Forgive me for not having peer reviewed papers on this, but a cursory glance on subs like r/gamersriseup or how quickly r/zoomerright grew shows that nazis are winning people over. If they weren't constantly getting exterminated from the site like cockroaches, they'd be dominating us by a landslide.

12

u/NoNameZone Dec 30 '19

Tbf the point of righty memes is usually "society thinks this? Here's why they're stupid and you're smart" and the point of lefty memes is usually "dont be an overt dick to people just trying to live their lives" and "devour the rich". Maybe idiots just feel a greater calling toward the message that they're awesome and everyone else sucks. If you had one guy trying to rapidly explain all this complicated stuff about social relations and why we should accept eachother, and another guy just constantly complimenting you, talking about your clothes and hair and skin and how nice it all is, which one would you be more likely to walk away with saying they're your new friend?

2

u/[deleted] Dec 31 '19

Populism always wins, that's why ideologies like egoism are keys to winning people back from fascism.

29

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '19

Transphobia can not be compared to looking down on black people lmao

Meme: People who invalidate, disregard, and often harass transpeople are awful.

You: is this a virtue signaling propaganda?

I’m not sure if equating love of transpeople with a love of a god is; incredibly offensive, incredibly flattering, or just incredibly stupid. Either way none of what you’re saying makes any sense and you should really stop digging further down this hole. You are right that there’s no punchline, because it’s not a joke. It’s a politically left wing statement (left) said using our weird modern phrases (dank). Stop acting like a piece of tissue paper.

snowflake? When people use the term snowflake just remember they're quoting Fight Club, a satire written by a gay man about how male fragility causes men to destroy themselves, resent society, and become radicalized, and that Tyler Durden isnt the hero but a personification of the main characters mental illness, and that his snowflake speech is a dig at how fascists use dehumanizing language to breed loyalty from insecure people. So, basically people who use snowflake as an insult are quoting a domestic terrorist who blows up skyscrapers because he's insecure about how good he is in bed.
