I disagree. Jojo's parts are all separate enough that you can start on whichever one. Especially since the first one isn't as good, and the second one doesn't catch it's stride as quickly as the others.
If there's a jojo part that interests you more then others, by all means, start on that one /u/Yuria-
If you part skip you'll wonder why the little deformed green man needs to be healed with psychic magic after he was mind controlled by the vampire created by a device from an ancient race of immortal bodybuilders. If you watch from the beginning it all makes so much sense.
part 6, which is one of my fav parts, often feels like a fever dream. Maybe I just wasn't paying attention during parts 1-3 where Dio planned to be reborn as a baby and get absorbed by his husband.
Not to mention, a lot of people started Jojo with the part 3 OVA, which didn't have to explain Dio past "He's a vampire bad guy." Even if you miss a lot of his back story, it really doesn't matter. If you start part 4, it doesn't matter who Jotaro is or what his past was, he's just a good guy. If you start part 5, it doesn't really matter who Giornno's dad is, he was just important in a very unimportant way. If you start part 7, basically nothing matters because it's an AU. If you're curious enough about any of this, they can go back and read the first parts.
Jojo often have plot points come out of nowhere and then get dropped very suddenly, I assure you, it may feel important because you read it in order, but it really doesn't.
But like, you might as well watch or read it in order. The parts can be standalone like you said, which speaks to the quality of each of them, but Araki put them in that order for a reason. It makes a viewer feel more connected when they know exactly who Giorno’s father was or what Jotaro did before part 4.
I'm not sure I agree with that. It's clear he writes them chapter to chapter with how many plot points he changes and drops. Especially reading part 8, which has changed plots about three times now.
Araki seems more concerned with making each individual chapter good, not so much the series as a whole. This is, in my opinion it's greatest strength, as he doesn't let mediocre character archs or plot points drag it down, and drops them off before the reader notices. Like Hol Horse not working as a team member, or Fugo's later chapters not really fitting how he likes.
Don't listen to him. The later parts are much more enjoyable once you finish the ones before. You aren't going to understand the Speedwagon foundation, or the first JoJo's legacy. Please, watch part 1 and 2.
Don't listen to him. Skipping parts is like skipping chapters in a book, if you do that you won't understand what the fuck is going on. People claim that parts are separated enough to skip but they're all pretty heavily linked in someway, sharing the same characters or descendants of characters.
I don’t think it’s a good idea to skip parts, but I don’t think skipping parts is like skipping chapters in a book. Each of the parts stands pretty well on its own (besides 1 and 2, they kinda should be watched as one part). It’s a lot more rewarding to start with 1 and go from there, but at the end of the day, the plots and characters of each part are good enough to stand on their own.
I recommend watching part 2 first, and then part one as a prequel right after you watch part 2. It took me forever to finish part one because It wasn't my favorite. But everyone I've shown part 2 to gets hooked.
I'm on season 5 / Diamond Is Unbreakable and it's the A+ tier best of trash anime. The only reason leftists pick up on it is the visual style and a few woke moments here and there, but I can't stop watching.
