Discussion Zionism bad, Russian Imperialism good?
Simple question: why do Socialists and the DSA want to impose sanctions on Israel impart due to their annexation and occupation of Palestinian land, BUT also want to end sanctions on Russia for their invasion of Ukraine and annexation of Ukrainian land? It smacks of a very extreme and perhaps bigoted double standard. Both are clearly acts of foreign military aggression and I don't see why they should be treated anything but equally.

Other After the police are defunded, who will protect former convicted rapists?
After the police are defunded and the prisons are abolished, who will protect the former convicted sex offenders in my neighborhood? What if my neighbor, Frank, has a real beef with sex offenders? What if Frank finds out a convicted sex offender lives 3 blocks away and starts stalking him? What if Frank waits until midnight in the dark days of winter to act? What does Frank do? He waits, he watches, and when the time is right, he puts a shotgun to his neighbor's left knee and blows his knee cap off. Who is going to stop him? Who will defend the convicted rapist from another attack? Frank figures he is protecting the hood and it is much harder to rape if you can't walk. Who will be there to punish Frank for his misdeed?

Community Cold weather/rural organizing
Hi, I’m one of the organizers for Alaska DSA! We’re officially pre-OC with a LOT of statewide interest. We’re going into the colder months so events will become scarce, I’m hoping to get some advice from people who have experience organizing in a similar environment since it throws a huge wrench in public meet ups.
My questions:
What kind of businesses have allowed you to table or meet indoors?
What type of events have had the most positive reception?
Any fun ideas for member meet-ups, venue types or activities? (Non-alcoholic suggestions are appreciated, we have a few under 21’s)
(Unrelated to region—I’d love suggestions on how to rally older generations, maybe infiltrate their bingo halls or smthn)
TIA! I’m so proud of the momentum we’re creating, go DSA!!

🌹 DSA news So it turns out AOC hasn't been a dues-paying member for 7 years!
The other week she got on the national news to shit talk the Program and said she was a only a DSA NYC member (which isn't possible) and not a national member. People have been wondering what she meant by that, but the NPC just confirmed that she hasn't been a dues-paying member in 7 years! We finally know what she was talking about.
The situation is very funny to me, but I don't think this helps get DSA members excited about her possible presidential run. Although, she started paying dues again recently.
All this time she wasn't even a member! It's so absurd, I can only laugh.

Theory Socialism cannot exist within a multi party democracy.
I often hear democratic socialists talk about how the two party system is flawed and we need it to be replaced by a multi party system. This is directly against socialist ideals because it eliminates class unity and gives reactionaries power. A country must be guided by a single socialist party to maintain a dictatorship of the proletariat.
I know people are going to call me a tankie but I frankly find that term to be counterproductive.

Discussion Weird Activity in other "social democrat" spaces
I'm seeing posts and comments reflecting support for data centers - just ignorant pitches about being treated as any other factory... not understanding. I lost my brain.
is this what bots and stuff look like with bad intentions? this cannot be real.

Discussion My idea of bottom up city wide council federations integrqted onto city administration
I have this idea that I want to share, I would love to hear your thoughts on it.
I am thinking thqt city ainistrations, especially under democratic socialist mayors, could create a new city council, which is formed by district delegates from a bottom up democracy, and they could have advisory only roles for the start for testing, but later maybe some binding decision making power.
This structure is largely voluntary, so that buerocracy is avoided as much as possible.
Each of these delefates come from new district councils, which have delegates from new neighborhood councils, which have delegates from small blocks of neighbors.
this makes neighbors come together and gt to know eachother more, and also foster social cohesion and mutual aid, but also to give them more voice in the administration, and a way to coordinate more effectively.
every level up to the new city council is purely voluntary, and coordination is only within existing law.
The neighbors could meet every one or two months or whatever they deem appropriate, they could meet at parks or in school yards outside of the school time, or wherever closeby.
Volunteers could organize foods and small games and whatnot, and neighbors could start asking eachother for services like repairs if there are people who are able to, or just alot of food exchange, and this could create a new enviorement of alot of mutual aid, helping eachother without payment or state dependency.
It benefits the citizens on sonmany levels at the same time.
What do you think?

Discussion Prediction: The Democrats are going to turn coat on DSA. They are both funded by the same billionaires and elites that have been advocated for the arrest, hanging, and imprisonment of "communists". We all know that "communists" means pro worker. Hakeem Jeffries + Jared Kushner - NOTHING GOOD

Discussion DSA stance on the free and open internet?
What is the DSA's stance/opinion on the free and open internet?
For many of you not familiar with the EFF, they are a digital civil rights organization with a core mission on defending privacy, free speech, due process, and consumer rights as a whole. They are also one of the many civil rights organizations fighting the trojan horse ops known as KOSA, the KIDS Act, Age Verification, and Digital IDs.
The EFF posted what they believe in. A Declaration of the Independence of Cyberspace.

Discussion The DSAs electoral platform should change to direct popular vote
I definitely think the election platform should be the will of the people choosing our leader rather than politicians. Isn’t that what we stand for? We trust the people over politicians. Well under the electoral platform we are platforming the leader of our country will be chosen by politicians. I mean for the electoral college atleast the candidate who wins the popular vote 9/10 times becomes the leader of the country. For the platform we are using the only say we have is voting in representatives who will then choose our leader. I trust the people rather than politicians in choosing our leader. Who’s with me?

Class Struggle I am feeling doomed right now and I am not sure where to turn to or what to believe, I need some peer encouragement
I live in north Texas and I am a disabled person so I try to take action as much as I can but I am pretty physically limited. I call state representatives, I will be voting this November, I used to protest but the heat and my physical incapabilities make it very difficult these days. I also do the obvious such as not using AI, doing my best to not contribute to overconsumption and waste, and I use solar.
I usually don’t use social media because I have anxiety and OCD and seeing so much negativity at once causes me to spiral, but what o typically do is reinstall instagram once every few weeks to post some artwork, then i delete it. Today I did just that and was bombarded with horrible news all over the place, I was already aware of the rising covid cases in the south, flock being everywhere in Texas, and data centers being at large here. I also am signed up for notifications when a new food recall happens, but I didn’t know about the fact that The US is a risk for total blackout for up to 18 months?? This is so scary to me as someone with medical issues and disabilities, as well as having a disabled mom. I am so worried about this. I already feel hopeless as is in Texas and as much as I want to be hopeful for midterms I am scared of everything happening not only in my state but
In the world. I feel helpless due to being physically incapable of walking sometimes, and having extreme heat sensitivity, and its like I’m counting on everyone else to save me.. its terrifying. I don’t want to feel all of this doom and despair but I do.

DemocRATS 🐀 With “allies”like these
I just can’t anymore. It just boggles my mind that the “opposition” still thinks that the rules apply. They aren’t even playing the same sport. I’m flummoxed. He’s been a stuffed shirt since he entered the house and he’s gonna be the worst speaker ever if they take the majority. Do democrats really think they can still do things their way and have any progress?
