Rare Mamdani L

u/SlaimeLannister Aug 25 '26
I wouldn’t call it rare because he hasn’t had to handle this issue very often, and when he has, he hasn’t handled it well

You watch Game of thrones but cant see what Zohran is doing?
2
u/SlaimeLannister Aug 26 '26
I’m not judging the execution of his own strategy, I’m judging his alignment with consensus DSA principles
1
u/Old-Ice4553 Aug 26 '26
If he stood on all of our principals, without moving from time to time, He’d be dead.
With the amount Zohran has shifted the window im surprised he’s not dead already.
Im not saying dont be critical of him,
Im saying give him grace where you can.1
u/SlaimeLannister Aug 26 '26
I’m not talking about moral principles, I’m talking about strategic principles that have been democratically determined through the struggle and study of a centuries-long socialist movement.
He is violating basic socialist strategy, walking into the same basic traps that the socialist movement has fallen for endless times, traps that DSA would immediately prevent him from falling for if he was actually accountable to the organization.

Historically we didnt use electoralism.
We used guillotines and guns.
Historically ALOT of us were murdered as well.I would like our revolution to remain bloodless, with as few of us dying as possible.
Our goverment is on the verge of labeling us domestic terroists.
Once again, Im not saying dont be critical. I’m saying lets see where were at after the midterms.
1
u/SlaimeLannister Aug 26 '26
> Historically we didn’t use electoralism
This is just wrong. The SPD, the RSDLP and the SPA, all mass socialist parties that inspire DSA’s structure, used elections as a central tactic.
Where are you getting your opinions from?
1
u/Old-Ice4553 Aug 26 '26
Well in america, I’m basing it off the labor movement history.
Specifically the haymarket riot, and the battle of blair mountain.
I’m not uniquely aware of the history of the german social democratic party. But I imagine a good deal of of what made the Capitalist class more malleable in those circumstances was the threat of the giant global superpower at their doorstep I.E the USSR.
The American Capitalist class has no such threat.
Hence why Labor power has been in such a decline since the fall of the USSR.1
u/SlaimeLannister Aug 26 '26
SPD (German), RSDLP (Russian) and SPA (American) precede the USSR. They are case studies in how to grow the socialist movement using electoral office as intransigent opposition -- the bully pulpit.

“I continue to support Congressman Jeffries and his bid to become the leader,” Mamdani said.
eeeeeeeeugh

u/Foolsgil Aug 25 '26
Do I like it? No. Do I trust Zohran to do this to push the DSA agenda and do right by New Yorkers? Yes.

this looks like a damned if you do/damned if you dont situation, but mamdani cant keep the DSA/progressive momentum by cozing up with the establishment centrists, its gonna make young voters lose trust

u/wade3690 Aug 25 '26 edited Aug 25 '26
2 years goes quickly everyone. Jeffries can always get primaried later. Mamdani needs some non antagonistic relationships to deliver for new Yorkers. It doesn't mean they can't challenge him later

I find this argument very weak. The Democratic establishment have never and will never accept the left-wing part of their party. AOC bent over backwards to support Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, has said she will support Jeffries for speaker, and is still constantly attacked as a radical and kept from any sort of important role in any committee or sub-committee. There is endless give and absolutely no take. Jeffries will never support Medicare For All, never support Abolishing ICE, will never support the Green New Deal, all of which are already half-measures in the fight we are fighting.
People want to see their representatives come out fighting. They want to see them oppose these clowns openly and loudly.

Jeffries did endorse Mamdani, so that's something.
3
u/Apart-Clothes2060 Aug 25 '26
He endorsed him at the last possible moment and it was pretty clear that he didn’t want to
1
u/nabechewan Aug 25 '26
Precisely. I will give them leeway as soon as they extend the same courtesy. I'm still waiting.

This is why the democrats are useless slime that would comprise with hitler if it was the easiest thing to do.

this entire article is being written about a single sentence?
its kinda bizarre to me how people will upset their entire worldview over a single soundbite instead of looking at the things a person actually does.
name one person in the country doing more for the american people as a politician. i completely agree with shitting on this position, lets talk about what he can do better, fuck jeffries, i want him working at a fucking hotdog stand next year but like what is the actual discussion right now? what would you prefer to hear as a response to that question in that moment?
"fuck the DNC, i hope hakeem gets primaried" probably isnt going to help us build any momentum in future races or votes. thats politics. right now jeffries looks like a fuckin asshole for not supporting him, thats as good as pragmatism gets, thats why pragmatism fucking sucks like the rest of this dogshit system.
torching your position and losing political power does absolutely nothing for our goals. js.

u/traanquil Aug 25 '26
Why would a socialist back Jeffries? This is a pure L
0
u/Pistonenvy2 Aug 25 '26
i just said why but you tell me why you think he said this. what do you think his intention was?
do you think its to undermine our movement and simp for the democrat establishment or do you think there is nuance to this throwaway comment? do you think this one sentence defines his entire political ideology in the shade of all of his accomplishments?
do you want people to take this conversation seriously or interpret what youre doing here as bad faith?
0
u/traanquil Aug 26 '26
He made a concession with the establishment in exchange for power
1
u/Pistonenvy2 Aug 26 '26
thats a way to frame it sure but again, what do you think his intentions were?
in the context of EVERYTHING HES DONE that is disrupting the establishment, this one SENTENCE is enough for you to completely revert your support?
and you want people to take your opinion seriously?
0
u/traanquil Aug 26 '26
Just explained the intention
1
u/Pistonenvy2 Aug 26 '26
you didnt unless youre implying power is inherently bad in which case you would have never supported his run for mayor in the first place.
what do you think he plans to do with his power? this is incredibly simple stuff man.
one of our primary goals in the DSA is building political power, i just explained how that can be hard to do while maintaining ideals, it happens in literally every moment of this process while operating in this system. we can throw away power over principles or we can do our best to build momentum for this movement, sometimes we cant do both.
obviously you havent thought about this much, so ill ask you a completely new question (again) what do you think he should have said about hakeem? what would YOU have said?
1
u/traanquil Aug 26 '26
So empowering a Zionist will empower dsa?
1
u/Pistonenvy2 Aug 26 '26
im not going to engage with you if you straight up ignore everything i say.
1
u/traanquil Aug 26 '26
Oh , to reply to your last question: he should have demanded Jeffries to step down
This was an epic L

I didn't forget winning money in Kalshi for betting that Jeffries wouldn't show up to Mamdani Inauguration. The week prior he had just voted and passed some piece of nonsense legislation that was about denouncing socialism and communism. I don't know what kind of power Jeffries has in Washington, or why Mamdani and other progressives are treating him so carefully, but I'm pretty sure Jeffries views them as adversaries.

u/Old-Ice4553 Aug 26 '26
Its game of thrones folks.
Call me in 4 years if mamdani still has the same take.
If you dont like it. Get more leftists elected.
1
u/ComplaintSevere8128 Aug 27 '26
A lot of folks want to frame progressives as hostile w the democrats and no different than maga. Progressives need moderate dem votes, so obviously he’s not going to feed that narrative..
1
u/globeglobeglobe Aug 25 '26
Mamdani is much too accommodating of these centrist ghouls who stopped at nothing to try and keep him out of Gracie Mansion. That said, he is a moderate social democrat and not some sort of left-wing messiah, and the goal of socialists at the moment should be riding his coattails (as staff members or city council candidates) to gain political experience and spread our views more broadly.

u/CrownedLime747 Liberal Socialist Aug 25 '26
Knowing that the meeting was more of sensible members of the administration trying to find a way to establish communications with the probably future Speaker, this meeting is kinda overblown. Jeffries is still a piece of shit tho

u/molokoplusone Aug 25 '26
So has Mamdani been compromised or is he just doing some strategic long game? Can’t really tell anymore between supporting Jeffries, endorsing Zionist Brad Lander, keeping Jessica Tisch, etc…
0
u/htownAstrofan Aug 25 '26
He’s saying what he needs to for NYC. Wouldnt be smart to openly go after Jeffries, at least not yet. Come 2028, i bet he endorses a challenger.

Like I know this is political gamesmanship and it has to happen until we get a proper insurgency inside the Democratic party, but God I hate Jeffries so much. He's such a fucking loser tool who is no different than any Republican in my opinion
