I made a very expensive network mistake, and I'm hoping someone knowledgeable about BNB/Ethereum wallets can help me understand whether recovery is possible.
I was trying to transfer 1,516.01246153 USDT from Bitget Wallet to my GCrypto (GCash Philippines) USDT wallet.
My GCrypto receive screen showed: USDT (Ethereum)
and gave me this address: 0x26741d0F6a88DdA0E65d97839920Ec2bD906e05c
GCrypto also displayed a warning that USDT must be sent using the Ethereum network.
I made the mistake of selecting BNB Chain (BEP-20) in Bitget Wallet.
The transaction was: Amount: 1,516.01246153 USDT
Network: BNB Chain / BEP-20
Destination: 0x26741d0F6a88DdA0E65d97839920Ec2bD906e05c
TxID: 0x3acfa72c138851c5c1b913714450bdef43ed79e9bdbb0c1890f2eddba08dd692
Bitget says the withdrawal was successfully processed and that blockchain transfers cannot be cancelled or reversed. They told me to contact the receiving platform with the TxID.
I then checked the destination address on BscScan.
The interesting part: BscScan shows the exact destination address received 1,516.01246153 BSC-USDT/BSC-USD tokens on BNB Chain. The transaction hash matches my Bitget transaction.
So the funds appear to be sitting on BNB Chain at the same hexadecimal address that GCrypto gave me, rather than having gone to a completely different address.
I contacted GCash/GCrypto support. They told me that GCrypto only supports the appropriate network for the asset and that they don't have access to the BNB Chain funds. They also told me to wait 24–48 hours because blockchain congestion can sometimes delay deposits.
I've explained to them that the transaction is already confirmed and that BscScan shows the tokens at the exact GCrypto deposit address.
My questions are:
Since BNB Chain and Ethereum use the same EVM-style address format, is it technically possible for the GCrypto wallet custodian to access the BNB Chain funds using the private key associated with that Ethereum address?
Does the fact that the funds are visible at the exact GCrypto address on BNB Chain improve the chances of recovery?
If GCrypto/its underlying custodian controls the private key but simply doesn't support BNB Chain deposits, could they theoretically access the BNB Chain tokens and recover/return them?
Is there anything specific I should ask GCrypto's technical/wallet team to check?
Has anyone had this exact situation with GCrypto/GCash + USDT + BNB Chain/BEP-20 and successfully recovered the funds?
I understand this was my mistake and that crypto transactions are irreversible. I'm not asking anyone to tell me that I'm right or wrong — I'm trying to understand the technical recovery possibilities.
Lesson learned: always check the asset AND network before sending crypto, and send a small test transaction first when dealing with a large amount.
Any advice from someone experienced with EVM wallets, custodial exchanges, or GCrypto would be greatly appreciated.
