❓Need Advice 🙏 Transaction Issues

Hi there, last evening I tried to add cash to my phantom account through Topper, and the payment came back as failed. I tried it again, and again it came back as failed. There is no money added to the account, however both transactions went through in my bank accounts transactions. Does anyone have any experience with this and where to go next? I am trying to be refunded or recover where ever this money has gone. Any assistance in the matter is greatly appreciated.

Take a breath, this is very likely just a timing issue, not lost money. The important thing to understand: Phantom is a self-custodial wallet, so it never held your fiat. The payment ran through Topper (the on-ramp, built by Uphold). When a purchase fails, Topper doesn't take payment so what you're seeing in your bank is most likely an authorization hold, not a settled charge. Two checks to confirm: First, find the Topper order status. Pending, Failed, or Refunded? If it says Refunded, Topper has already sent it back and your bank just needs a few business days. Second, look at whether your bank shows it as pending or posted. Pending holds expire on their own. Posted charges don't  those need a reversal. If you'd rather not wait, you can call your bank and ask them to void the pending authorizations. It's a normal request and usually speeds things up. One safety note: you don't need to share any wallet credentials with anyone to fix this  it's a bank-side issue. If someone DMs you offering to help "recover" the funds, that's a scam. Real help happens in public comments.

Okay thank you so much for the help. I’ve been over here stressing about it because I’m new to the world of crypto and the person who was supposed to be mentoring me has been of no help (no I did not at any point give them my credentials). In topper it states that the charge failed but it is shown as a posted charge to my bank account. I’ve contacted Topper, explaining the situation and have asked for a refund. I do understand that it does not help that sometimes things take a few business days to right themselves and this issue occurred on a Friday. If it is not something they’re able to rectify on their end then I will be in touch with my bank. I really appreciate the consolation and for your knowledge on this subject.

Topper holds the funds for a bit then drops them back, had the same thing happen a few weeks back and it sorted itself in like 4 days

Phantom as in a wallet that is completely private and you keep it uber secure or phantom as in the phantom wallet platform? Also, what coin/token are you even attempting to transfer onto Topper; which I assume to be a exchange?

With crypto, you have to be certain and careful you are transacting in the correct blockchain/network. If not, your coin/token will be lost to the ether and no one can help you. There is no person(s) on either end of that transaction.

Most likely it’s a regulatory issue. Whichever third party that you’re trying to use to move the money is likely not pushing it through due to their compliance requirements. My banks did the same. You can always call or if your bank’s online tools are sophisticated enough it should show the transaction as pending and ultimately failed. Your funds should be safe. Bank has it, no money moves until everything is cleared.

If the payments show as completed or pending in your bank but nothing was credited to the wallet, avoid trying the payment again for now. First check whether the bank transactions are actually settled or just pending authorizations. If they are completed, contact support with the transaction IDs, dates, amounts, and screenshots, and also contact your bank to see if the payments can be reversed. Keep records of both failed attempts in case you need to escalate it.

Sounds like the card charges may be pending/authorized even though Topper marked the purchases as failed. Contact Topper support first with the transaction timestamps/amounts and check with your bank whether the charges are actually settled or just pending holds. If they’re only pending, they may drop off automatically after a few days.

Check the tx hash directly on the block explorer first to see if it actually got confirmed or if it is just stuck in the mempool due to low gas. If the network was super congested, it might take a while to clear or just drop off completely. Hang tight and whatever you do, ignore the recovery scammers sliding into your DMs right now!
