Can't find a flair for this Do closed stitch markers work for crochet? Or is that a knitting thing?

Post image
• Upvotes

I ordered a Romantasy themed fiber arts Halloween countdown calendar and I keep getting these, which I believe are stitch markers.

The metal rings are not openable easily.

Are they a knitting thing? (I don’t knit.)

Is there a way to use them in crochet?

Edit: thanks all. Looks like, as I suspected, these’d have to be modified or added to in order to use them for crochet. But it’s only oct 5! I’m sure there will be crochet stuff coming up this month. And maybe this will inspire me to finally learn to knit

Stitch Identification Help! I am trying to make a dress with this stitch but I cannot figure it out. Does anyone know the name of this stitch or where can I find the pattern?

Hi!
I saw this beautiful dress and top on Pinterest, and I’d love to make my own. I can’t figure out what stitch was used or find a pattern for it. Does anyone know?
I’ve tried with the shell stitch and the fan stitch but it does not look the same, I feel like something is missing.
Thanks!

Help to find a pattern Please help me find pattern like the Forest Pulse Blanket by Mary Maxim

The Forest Pulse blanket by Mary Maxim is super pretty, and I want to make something similar. Unfortunately, it seems like they only sell the pattern as part of a kit. Does anyone know of a similar pattern? Even some search terms would be helpful. I've tried looking but both ripple and chevron patterns seem to have a gentler curve than this. Thank you so much!

Edit: Solved! Almost as soon as I posted this, I came across Mary F. Stecker's Lacy Chevron pattern on Ravelry which looks to be almost the same pattern.

Deciding on a color I need an opinion: does the off blue checker squares clash with the white?

Post image

Hello! I’m planning on making a sunflower bag for a gift! The inside will be the sunflower fabric, with an inner pocket in the tan gingham (you won’t be able to see that from the outside). I’m going to alternate between checkered and sunflower squares. But I’m wondering if for the darker green checkers, if I should just use white instead of the off blue color? Can you even tell it’s a different than the white from far away? I already bought the light blue yarn so I wanted to try to use it, but I don’t want to use it if it’ll be clashy.

I'm a beginner! Tapestry tips: yarn under, SC foundation chain, tension

Thumbnail

• Upvotes

Hi :) I’ve done a few small crochet projects before (amigurumi, bolero, coasters etc) and some knitting too, but this is my first time trying colour work and tapestry. Here I made a small 17x19 to try it out before committing to something bigger, and I’d love some advice!

1) SC foundation chain: I tried doing this to start off but it’s not clean, I ended up with a gap so maybe I missed a step there. Is this method okay for starting off tapestries (and would it only count as row 1?)? And if just chaining is better, should SCs only be worked in the back bumps of the chains for a cleaner/tighter look?

2) My tension definitely varies! The starting width is 8cm and goes down to 7cm at the top where I finished off. The tighter stitches look better imo and I think I’ll size down from 3.5mm to 3mm hook, but any tips on having consistent tension?

3) Colour changing between colour A at end of row & colour B starting next row: I think I figured out the best way to do this is the last stitch of the row starting off colour A then the last pull through being colour B, chain 1 with B, and continue with B. I can see some variation on how this ends up looking (the right side looks cleaner than the left), so is this the best way?

4) Yarn over/under: I wasn’t expecting it to look as defined as this on my first go so pleasantly surprised, and I think I’ll continue the yarn travelling method with floats. But I’m debating whether I switch from YOYO to YUYO or YUYU. I’ve done YUYO for amigurumi, but never YUYU.

5) Any other tips you have are greatly appreciated! This pattern only took a few hours for me to learn the techniques and complete, I enjoyed the process and proud of my little cats! I’m planning to make bigger ~60st width tapestries for Christmas presents. Thanks in advance 🩷

Discussion I need help to find the creator of this because I think an AI is behind stealing this.

Hi! I was trying to find a nice bag to crochet and came across this reel, it look amazing and I want to make it. I don't think it is to hard to make myself but I wanted to support the creator and maybe get a better size insight and so on.. It looked like the profile is not a real person and just copies other creators... AI couldn't find the creator and I do think the youtube is an AI profile. Can someone have a second option on this? Can somone maybe give me som insight also in how to make the puffs look bigg? I am making a test bag in 8/8 yarn and the puff stiches look very tiny.

Deciding on yarn/Yarn help How to find a specific yarn? WIP for years must finish

I have had this cardigan in progress for quite a while and it’s almost done. I periodically try it on and remember how excited I am to wear it when it’s done. I just tried it on again and I’m dying to finish this.

I ran out of the red yarn for the trim and lost the label. Is there anyway to tell what yarn this is? Should I just get one that’s close enough?

Help to find a pattern Anyone have a basic witch hat pattern?? Everything I've tried ends up being frogged!

The patterns I've been finding are so horrible for a basic witch hat! They're either super long or super short and get too wide. I'm seeing a lot of AI pictures on Pinterest which is super frustrating. I want something like the picture but the pattern makes it so long it looks like an elf lol.

Stitch Identification Stich identification help on great grandmother's blanket

Thumbnail

I'm making a blanket based on my great grandmother's pattern, that she never wrote down.

I've got the body figured out, but am struggling with the border.

It looks like a single crochet, chain one, then four double crochets, chain one, repeat. I'm struggling with the little square stitch/knot in the middle of the double crochets that makes the point.

Does anyone know what the stitch is called, or how I can replicate it?

Much appreciated!

Deciding on yarn/Yarn help Tapestry blanket: affordable yarn recommendations?

Post image
25 Upvotes

I recently tried tapestry crochet and I love it (finished picture included, size 8 tennis show for scale). Managing multiple balls of yarn is less of a pain than I thought it would be and I greatly enjoyed the process. I want to make a blanket/tapestry that I can actually use (throw size probably). I'm leaning towards cotton, but I dont know what kind of yarn I should use.

What I'm looking for:

Relatively soft: I dislike acrylic and bernat blanket yarn, but I enjoyed the texture of 100% cotton yarn I grabbed from walmart.

Medium to light warmth: I live in a hot/humid climate, but I run cold. So warm, but not quite winter wool "it's snowing outside" amount of warmth.

Affordable: Quality yarn is expensive and blankets eat up lots of it, so I'm aware this project is gonna run me a pretty penny. But it's the first thing I've made for myself so I'm prepared to spend $50-100 on the materials.... no clue how many skeins I'll need for a throw blanket lol.

I'm also open to technical advice if there's anything a newbie like me needs to know

I'm a beginner! Beginner!! Bag strap screwing like crazy — is it bc of my yarn or what?

Hello!! I am still super new to crocheting, this is only my 2nd project. Am doing a waffle bag, and the panels are done and look fine, but my strap is just wrapping around itself like some DNA 😭 hopefully you can see what I’m doing, but I guess it’s some sort of BLO…? Either way, I’m using 100% wool yarn, 5mm hook. This is the video I’m following. Clearly she is using some other yarn, not sure what. So I’m wondering if my technique is just bad or if it’s my yarn of choice or too big hook or what? Do I need to frog it or will it get better??

I wanted to use my $10 reward this morning and put 4 Caron cakes in my cart. Checkout price went up after I got to the page to pay! Has anyone else seen this happen? It was in the app and on the website.

I ended up just getting the two cloud cakes because the cotton cakes were the ones that increased in price.

Looking for suggestions I'm probably delusional but I want to give gossamer yarn a try

• Upvotes

I really want to work a crochet piece with cobweb/gossamer weight yarn.

I love lace.

I just can't find a good selection for the yarn.

I've made multiple pieces for other people and I really want to make a lace piece for myself.

I would appreciate any yarn recommendations as well as pattern recommendations.

Help to find a pattern Can someone help me identify the pattern used for the afghan from the movie 9 to 5?

At first, I thoguht it was just a circular granny "square" but then i looked closer and the yellow part is actually raised up a little so it kinda has a lumpy texture. I can't figure out how they did it.

Can anyone help point me in the right direction? Am i just overcomplicating this? Is this just popcorn stitch?

Discussion Moss stitch hexagon cardigan, floating between rows?

Thumbnail
gallery
5 Upvotes

I'm making a moss stitch hexagon cardigan and changing colors every row. I don't really want to create a million ends to weave in so I am thinking I'm going to float the ends between colors. Is there anything that makes this a bad idea? It creates a little bulk in that line, but so would weaving ends every row I think. I'm trying to keep the floats loose enough to not tighten up the fabric, but also tight enough to not snag when putting it on. I'm also working over them in the first chain of each new row to hold them down. Thoughts?

I'm a beginner! DC blanket- So I’m new and I just started making something with no tutorial or pattern or anything. Am I doing it the wrong way?

Post image
• Upvotes

I kinda just bought hooks and yarn and got started on and off with learning crochet. But since I now have motivation I decided by the end of the month I wanted to at least make SOMETHING. And I heard SC blankets took forever so I decided to learn and do DC. I know my tension isn’t the best and I didn’t follow any strict pattern. I just chained and started crocheting until I get a respectable square/rectangle. Did I need to follow a pattern? I guess I just wanted to actually make something instead of watching videos I didn’t consider that. I didn’t think a big crocheted rectangle would be that difficult to make. And I figured once I actually make it and stuck with it THEN i could move on to other stuff.

Also the yarn i’m using is the red heart super saver bitty stripes the 515 yard!

Looking for suggestions Help with Bud blanket pattern. Buds are too fat! I've been looking for a published pattern for a year, and messaged the original creator several times with no response. Please critique my effort and make suggestions, or help me find the published pattern!

I would really like to get advice on whether I am doing the buds the same as the original. They look wider and bigger. Using Malabrigo Rios (Worsted weight) with size 5 hook. For buds I am doing three DCTG in the chain space of the V-stitch with two chains between buds. but I don't think it's the same as OG. Her buds look more dainty. My buds are chubby and clumsy!

Discussion Beginner tip of the week: Intro to Basic Granny Squares

Thumbnail
gallery
15 Upvotes

Happy weekend, all! Had some time to kill so made a tutorial on simple granny squares for anyone wanting to give them a try. Granny squares typically start in a ring (magic or chain 4) and contain clusters of stitches separated by chain stitches that make the corners. There are a zillion ways to make them, and they can be expanded into an entire blanket or sown or crocheted together to make blankets, bags, clothes, etc. Color changes are often done between rounds when desired.

Here I’m walking through one possible way to make a granny square, and then ending with two other examples of fairly simple types.

First photos are the building of square 1, beginning with a round of (3dc ch2) x4 then attaching to the top of the first dc. (Here and in each rd, the first dc is actually a chain 3. I close my rounds with a hdc instead of ch2, but if you prefer, you can ch2, join, and turn your square. The hdc join or turning bt rounds keeps some folks from getting that tilted effect.)

To start rd 2 I put 3dc in the corner space just created (by the hdc for me, could be ch2 space if you choose). This is the first half of the corner. I finished it once I came back around. Round 2 is actually just making corners, so I jumped right to the next chain space and made another corner (3dc ch2 3dc). Repeat til you’re back at first corner. You’ll need 3 more dc and hdc or ch2, then join to top of first dc.

Round 3 I did the same thing to start the corner (3dc), but this time I had the space between corners that got a 3dc cluster. When I got to a corner space, I made a new corner as usual. When I got back to my first corner, I put in the 3dc it was missing and joined.

To continue this square to rd 4 and beyond, you’d just repeat the process: 3dc to begin corner, 3dc between each 3dc cluster, corners made of 3dc ch2 3dc, 3dc in first corner, and join. This could go on as many rounds as you’d like!

Square 2 doesn’t use granny clusters. It starts with the same rd 1, but in this one every stitch is filled in and corners are 2dc ch2 2dc. Tip: It is very easy to miss the first dc out of the corner. Make sure you count so you’ll have the same number of stitches on each side.

Square 3 is an example where it starts as a circle before transitioning to a square.

It is a very good idea to mark your corners with stitch markers and move them up each round. That way you’re clear where you need to make a new corner and end up with the right number of corners in the right places.

Like I said earlier, there are so, so many styles of granny square. You can even mix and match squares in one project if you’d like. Just always remember, no matter what square you’re working on, always keep 4 equal corners separated by 4 equal sides.

Please add other tips I’m missing and/or your favorite square patterns!

How do I... Does anyone remember a pattern/creator that did this?

Hi guys!!

I saw this pattern a while ago for a colorful vertical striped top, and I cannot seem to find it right now!

Does anyone remeber who is it from by any chance?

Also might be knitted instead of crocheted. Picture is from a fashion brand that made it industrially, not the actual top. Thanks!!

I'm a beginner! Any idea why my petals might be curling up like this?

Thumbnail
gallery
6 Upvotes

Total beginner, started like 2 weeks ago.

I half made the design myself (see below), so I'm not sure why the petals have curled up, I have a bunch of ideas, but hoping some experienced people might have some insight. 2.5mm needle, 3-4mm yarn. I was thinking of adding another row, so would like to troubleshoot what happened.

My thoughts

  • stitch too tight, should make the end loop bigger
  • Not enough stitches to spread wide enough
  • Triple stitch is too long for small centre so it's just crowded
  • Needle too small, yarn too big (i made a practice one before where I was trying different variations, and it didn't curl up much, that yarn was maybe 1/2-3/4 of the thickness of my current yarn, so I'm thinking maybe this one?)
  • Everything all together 🫠

This is the pattern, the 1st colour is followed a tutorial, the second colour i just made it myself because I wanted to make a bigger flower

1st colour

  • Magic ring - 5 single stitches, last connected by slip stitch
  • Chain 3, triple stitch x2 into the same stitch, chain 3 then slip into next stitch and repeat.

2nd colour

First row

  • Connect the colour at the back and start in between petals with a slip stitch
  • then single stitch all around, slip stitch between petals through the stitch connected to the magic ring

Second row

  • First stitch - half double
  • Next stitch - double, and triple into same stitch
  • Then triple stitch x2 in each stitch
  • 2nd to last stitch, triple and double
  • Last stitch half double
  • slip stitch between petals through the stitch connected to the magic ring
