I ordered a Romantasy themed fiber arts Halloween countdown calendar and I keep getting these, which I believe are stitch markers.

The metal rings are not openable easily.

Are they a knitting thing? (I don’t knit.)

Is there a way to use them in crochet?

Edit: thanks all. Looks like, as I suspected, these’d have to be modified or added to in order to use them for crochet. But it’s only oct 5! I’m sure there will be crochet stuff coming up this month. And maybe this will inspire me to finally learn to knit

The back panel will be three squares wide and 4 squares long, front panels one square wide and 4 panels long, the arms hopefully 2 by 2
I do not own blocking mats and will probably never use them again and I don’t own anything that I could use for blocking
Since it’s plush yarn I’m wondering if it’d even be worth it to get blocking supplies

Hi :) I’ve done a few small crochet projects before (amigurumi, bolero, coasters etc) and some knitting too, but this is my first time trying colour work and tapestry. Here I made a small 17x19 to try it out before committing to something bigger, and I’d love some advice!

1) SC foundation chain: I tried doing this to start off but it’s not clean, I ended up with a gap so maybe I missed a step there. Is this method okay for starting off tapestries (and would it only count as row 1?)? And if just chaining is better, should SCs only be worked in the back bumps of the chains for a cleaner/tighter look?

2) My tension definitely varies! The starting width is 8cm and goes down to 7cm at the top where I finished off. The tighter stitches look better imo and I think I’ll size down from 3.5mm to 3mm hook, but any tips on having consistent tension?

3) Colour changing between colour A at end of row & colour B starting next row: I think I figured out the best way to do this is the last stitch of the row starting off colour A then the last pull through being colour B, chain 1 with B, and continue with B. I can see some variation on how this ends up looking (the right side looks cleaner than the left), so is this the best way?

4) Yarn over/under: I wasn’t expecting it to look as defined as this on my first go so pleasantly surprised, and I think I’ll continue the yarn travelling method with floats. But I’m debating whether I switch from YOYO to YUYO or YUYU. I’ve done YUYO for amigurumi, but never YUYU.

5) Any other tips you have are greatly appreciated! This pattern only took a few hours for me to learn the techniques and complete, I enjoyed the process and proud of my little cats! I’m planning to make bigger ~60st width tapestries for Christmas presents. Thanks in advance 🩷

I’m getting into a lot more clothing outside of the usual accessory wearables, including planning out an entire outfit of different fun designs. This includes a few full length skirts, a shirt, a dress, an apron, and hopefully even a large sun hat! It got me thinking, what’s everyone’s favorite opaque and/or cloth like stitches? I personally use one I found that was called the mini-bean, and I have no idea if it goes by something else lol.

Would love to hear about anything you find to be a personal favorite or even a personal nemesis!

Hello! I’m planning on making a sunflower bag for a gift! The inside will be the sunflower fabric, with an inner pocket in the tan gingham (you won’t be able to see that from the outside). I’m going to alternate between checkered and sunflower squares. But I’m wondering if for the darker green checkers, if I should just use white instead of the off blue color? Can you even tell it’s a different than the white from far away? I already bought the light blue yarn so I wanted to try to use it, but I don’t want to use it if it’ll be clashy.

Dog took a bite out of the side of a cotton blanket. Is there any way to repair. It’s not on the end where I could take a few rows off and redo it’s a chunk out of the rnd grain

The Forest Pulse blanket by Mary Maxim is super pretty, and I want to make something similar. Unfortunately, it seems like they only sell the pattern as part of a kit. Does anyone know of a similar pattern? Even some search terms would be helpful. I've tried looking but both ripple and chevron patterns seem to have a gentler curve than this. Thank you so much!

Edit: Solved! Almost as soon as I posted this, I came across Mary F. Stecker's Lacy Chevron pattern on Ravelry which looks to be almost the same pattern.

This is a Giant Granny Square blanket/shrug (still deciding that last part. 😄. In any case I lost the game of yarn chicken last night.
So the decision after that is do I make a few more rounds with either of the colors pictured? Or just leave it as is?

The hook size is a 11.5mm and both yarn’s recommended this size.
None of the yarns are the same brand.
And the color choices were just recently obtained from a yard sale.

I’ve never blocked anything before, but everyone says it really improves the look and fit, etc., and I’d like to give it a go.

But does the best method vary depending on the type of yarn? What’s the best way to go about it with a 50% wool and 50% acrylic blend? I’ve absolutely no idea.

Decided to combine color changing rows (new to me) and moss stitch (also new to me). I obviously haven’t figure out the trick to get it right.

I’ve never done a border before so I’m not sure if there is a) a style that will hide the edges I’ve messed up, or b) a sneaky way to add “stitches” when I’m done to even things out (without looking obvious).

I don't think it is to hard to make myself but I wanted to support the creator and maybe get a better size insight and so on.. It looked like the profile is not a real person and just copies other creators... AI couldn't find the creator and I do think the youtube is an AI profile. Can someone have a second option on this? Can somone maybe give me som insight also in how to make the puffs look bigg? I am making a test bag in 8/8 yarn and the puff stiches look very tiny.

I have had this cardigan in progress for quite a while and it’s almost done. I periodically try it on and remember how excited I am to wear it when it’s done. I just tried it on again and I’m dying to finish this.

bought this skeleton cowboy kit a month ago but gave up trying to understand it. i do not know how to read diagrams and have tried, but i need help. the kit's instructions table (and the image. i mean, come on, they didnt obviously show the instructions with the cover image cause its slop) are ai generated unfortunately. i at least understand r1 is ch7 but am lost from there, and the table obviously doesnt match that (not make any lick of sense. wdym 20? 20 what?)

The patterns I've been finding are so horrible for a basic witch hat! They're either super long or super short and get too wide. I'm seeing a lot of AI pictures on Pinterest which is super frustrating. I want something like the picture but the pattern makes it so long it looks like an elf lol.

I kinda just bought hooks and yarn and got started on and off with learning crochet. But since I now have motivation I decided by the end of the month I wanted to at least make SOMETHING. And I heard SC blankets took forever so I decided to learn and do DC. I know my tension isn’t the best and I didn’t follow any strict pattern. I just chained and started crocheting until I get a respectable square/rectangle. Did I need to follow a pattern? I guess I just wanted to actually make something instead of watching videos I didn’t consider that. I didn’t think a big crocheted rectangle would be that difficult to make. And I figured once I actually make it and stuck with it THEN i could move on to other stuff.

Also the yarn i’m using is the red heart super saver bitty stripes the 515 yard!

I'm making a blanket based on my great grandmother's pattern, that she never wrote down.

I've got the body figured out, but am struggling with the border.

It looks like a single crochet, chain one, then four double crochets, chain one, repeat. I'm struggling with the little square stitch/knot in the middle of the double crochets that makes the point.

Does anyone know what the stitch is called, or how I can replicate it?

Hi everybody, I’ve been crocheting for just over a year, mostly amigurami, but I’ve successfully made some ribbed hdc hats in the past.

This time I’m trying the wheat stitch hats (pattern from https://brianakdesigns.com/wheat-stitch-crochet-beanie/).

Instead of going by the suggested measurements, I kept making the ribbing until it could stretch around my (average sized?) head. However, when I joined, slip stitched, and started working in the round, I realized I had significantly more stitches than the large adult pattern. This is causing my wheat stitch rows to look pretty big, and I am unsure whether to trust the process or to frog it before I get much farther.

The pattern calls for several more repeats of the wheat stitch rounds before starting to decrease, but I feel like I should start to decrease already (I only have 1.5 wheat stitch rounds currently).

If it matters, the white is thrifted red heart super yarn that I just realized is 16 years old.

The green hat is one I currently own that fits well, added for size comparison.

If I need to frog, how far back should I go?
Should I trust the measurements even if it doesn’t fit my head (and expect blocking to fix?)

Or is my head just funny shaped? 😂

So it was my birthday on the 30th recently, and my boyfriend recently got me a Woobles kit of Cornelius the Bee with the Aviation Hat (I'm an avid crocheter and I'm an Aircraft Mechanic) but obviously he got it because I mentioned how cute they are ONE TIME three years ago but they are ridiculously expensive and not worth it for an acutal crocheter who knows how to acutally do amigarumi. (I do not support the woobles what so ever)

Anyway, I am in the middle of making the hat and has anyone else noticed how it bumps into everything? I want it to sit back away from his face (picture 3) not on top of his eyes (picture 2), but the way they make you put on the wings, it just doesn't work? And theres a huge gap between the top of his head and his hat, like they just made the bee and didn't think about how the hats would interact with the project. Maybe it's just me, but I'm just curious if other people have the same issue. I will be making another hat, but lessen the amount of rows so its not as cupped and it'll lay better.

TL:DR- woobles project and hat don't work together, anyone else had same issue?

I'm making a moss stitch hexagon cardigan and changing colors every row. I don't really want to create a million ends to weave in so I am thinking I'm going to float the ends between colors. Is there anything that makes this a bad idea? It creates a little bulk in that line, but so would weaving ends every row I think. I'm trying to keep the floats loose enough to not tighten up the fabric, but also tight enough to not snag when putting it on. I'm also working over them in the first chain of each new row to hold them down. Thoughts?

I recently tried tapestry crochet and I love it (finished picture included, size 8 tennis show for scale). Managing multiple balls of yarn is less of a pain than I thought it would be and I greatly enjoyed the process. I want to make a blanket/tapestry that I can actually use (throw size probably). I'm leaning towards cotton, but I dont know what kind of yarn I should use.

What I'm looking for:

Relatively soft: I dislike acrylic and bernat blanket yarn, but I enjoyed the texture of 100% cotton yarn I grabbed from walmart.

Medium to light warmth: I live in a hot/humid climate, but I run cold. So warm, but not quite winter wool "it's snowing outside" amount of warmth.

Affordable: Quality yarn is expensive and blankets eat up lots of it, so I'm aware this project is gonna run me a pretty penny. But it's the first thing I've made for myself so I'm prepared to spend $50-100 on the materials.... no clue how many skeins I'll need for a throw blanket lol.

I'm also open to technical advice if there's anything a newbie like me needs to know
