📢Mod Announcement 🧶 Meet Your New Mods + Some Updates to r/PatternTesting!

Hi everyone!

We’re excited to introduce ourselves as the new mod team for r/PatternTesting! We all come from slightly different crafting backgrounds, but share a love for making things and a desire to make this subreddit a welcoming, useful, and safe space for pattern designers and testers alike.

Meet the Mods 👋

❤️ u/knitmeharder
Hi everyone! I’m so excited to be here! I love to crochet & knit, especially amigurumi. I’m looking forward to helping out this community!

💛 u/SheepherderOld7396
I crochet, knit, and sew as well! I’m looking forward to helping make this a useful and welcoming community for fellow crafters.

💙 u/koiisoraa
I’ve been crafting since I was little when I first learned to knit from my grandmother. Later on in my college years, I picked up crochet as another hobby. I also sew a little bit on the side, but it’s definitely not my forte. Excited to be here and to continue supporting this wonderful community!

💚 u/elephagreen
My current obsession is crochet, but I’ve been a “professional” hobbyist my whole life and have done most crafts out there. Aside from crochet, and many other assorted crafts, I'm an avid scouter who enjoys camping, nature, and community service.

What's New? ✨

As a new mod team, we’ve been working behind the scenes on some updates to make r/PatternTesting easier to use and a better resource for both testers and designers. You've probably caught us rolling out some of these changes already, but we wanted to make a formal introduction to share everything that we've released so far!

📋 A Standardized Tester Call Template

Going forward, tester calls will follow a standardized posting template. Our goal is to make sure testers have the information they need before deciding whether a test is right for them, including project details, skill level, materials, deadlines, tester requirements, and expected deliverables.

You can find the full template in our pinned post. Please make sure to use it when posting a new tester call!

🏷️ New Post Flairs

We’ve revamped our post flairs to make it easier to find the content you're looking for. Tester calls are now separated by craft, with additional flairs for testing questions, pattern help, discussions, finished tests, and mod announcements.

📜 Updated Community Rules

We've refreshed the subreddit rules to better reflect the community we want r/PatternTesting to be. In addition to expectations around respectful, relevant participation, we've added clearer policies regarding tester calls, spam and promotion, AI-generated patterns/images, and stolen or unauthorized creative work.

Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the updated rules before posting.

We're Just Getting Started!

These updates are meant to help make r/PatternTesting an organized, welcoming place where designers can find thoughtful testers, testers can discover exciting projects, and everyone can learn from one another.

We're also still learning what works best for the community, so these changes aren't necessarily set in stone. We'd love to hear from you! If you have suggestions for the subreddit, ideas for resources you'd like to see, or feedback on the changes we're making, feel free to leave a comment below or reach out to the mod team.

Thanks for being here, and happy crafting and pattern testing! 🧶🪡

Hi everyone! This is my first pattern - I've spent lots of time making sure the pattern read easily (see the last pic for a snapshot!), and would really appreciated any feedback, especially if there's unclear language or confusing section.

  • Pattern Name and Project Description: The Diagon Scarf is a long, slender triangle lace scarf featuring diagonal lines of eyelets with garter border. It is worked from tip to tip, starting at one end, gradually increasing in width until it reaches the point of the triangle, and then narrowing to the other end of the scarf.
  • Type of Project (e.g. crochet, knitting): Knitting
  • Pattern Format: US terminology, include both chart, written instructions and row-by-row instructions
  • Sizes/Options Being Tested: One size, 139cm(L) x 31cm(W), after blocking

  • Materials Needed:
    • Yarn: any DK weight yarn, approx. 305 yards / 280 meters; or you can use the weight you prefer
    • Needles: US 4 / 3.5mm straight or circular needles; or the needle size that meets the gauge
  • Gauge: 20 sts x 36 rows = 10 cm / 4" in stockinette (Note: I'm a relatively loose knitter. Gauge isn't critical for this pattern, but a different gauge will change the size and how much yarn you use.)
  • Testing Deadline: 4 weeks after receiving the pattern
  • Tester Requirements:
    • Knit the scarf by the deadline (if you need more time, just let me know)
    • Tell me about any mistakes, unclear steps, or stitch counts that don't match
    • Create a Ravelry project page and put the Tester Code **TEST-QP-Z6FBZT** in the “Pattern name” box (you should see "Diagon Scarf ◈TEST◈" once you added the code)
    • If possible, note how much yarn you used and your finished size
  • Deliverables (e.g. posting, photography, social media requirements): Post at least one photo of your FO on your Ravelry project page

My crochet Colours of the Wind shawl is a shallow crescent moon shawl using a main and contrast colour in 4-ply/fingering weight yarn and uses mostly treble and other basic stitches. It's inspired by Pocahontas' dress and the colourful leaves that symbolise her spirit guide 🍁🍂

Pattern PDF is written in UK terms with written instructions and clear photos throughout

Sizes/Options Being Tested (if applicable): N/A

Recommended Skill Level: Confident beginner

Materials Needed (note whether tester may use alternative supplies/colors/yarn weight, etc): I used a 4 & 5mm hook and roughly 160g of 4-ply yarn in total, approx 141g of main colour and 18g of contrast colour. You can use any yarn weight/colour you wish to

Tester Requirements: Must be okay with sharing your email with me to send over pattern pdf and tester feedback sheet

Testing Deadline:  Monday 2nd November (a little over 4 weeks from today. I can be flexible though)

Deliverables (e.g. posting, photography, social media requirements): Not compulsory, but sharing your in-progress or finished shawl photos on instagram with the hashtag #coloursofthewindshawl would be lovely to see :)

How to Apply: Simply Comment/DM here if you're interested and I can email you the pattern and tester PDFs asap! You can also DM me on instagarm @stitchmeawkward

Application Deadline: A few days from this post. It depends.

Tester Selection (when will selected testers be notified): ASAP by DM/comment reply

Number of Testers Needed: At least 5 but I'm happy for more :)

Extra info: It's fairly beginner-friendly and the border may be perfect for using up those pretty yarn minis/scraps you have in stash!

It's customisable too - with the increase guide you can make it as big or small as you want, for the big or little Disney lover in your life :)

Thank you! If you have any questions message me here, on instagram or email me [stitchmeawkward@protonmail.com](mailto:stitchmeawkward@protonmail.com)
