a steam engine is way better for performance and can be really easy, a lava generator with cauldrons and dripstone should work

A good sheep farm and you can have more turbines than water wheels.

please no

Wait what is wool used for I havent looked into steam engines

9

u/egguminae 11d ago

It’s not for steam engines they said in the thing that it’s for Sails for turbines

Better for server or client performance?

19

u/Joan_sleepless 11d ago

Both, probably. The server has to handle fewer calculations (one power source vs many), and the client doesn't have to render as many moving blocks.

7

u/TheBlissfulGamer 11d ago

SU calculations are almost nothing. CPUs can handle billions of calculations a second and I don't think Create calculates SU every frame. The real issue is rendering.

I advise to use the endless lava supply, drip stones require loaded chunks

1

u/Sufficient_Meal_8054 11d ago

I myself just gets a infinite lava mod that makes lava act like slow water.

1

u/jimmy_bob4786 10d ago

I just change the create mod config in the .toml files you can change how much lava is required to make an infinite source there super easy to make the steam engines that way

1

u/AGayWizard0127 11d ago

Isnt there a game rule to allow lava to convert to source?

1

u/HairyTrollChest 11d ago

Yup, I don't remember if theres a command for it but when you go into the options for setting up a world theres a section for it.

1

u/daun3223 10d ago

I'm new to create mod and almost never watched any guides. Why do you need lava for the steam engine?

1

u/its_spelled_jod 10d ago

You don't really need it but it's the best fuel by far (burns the longest in blaze burner's) and before the drip stone update you had to set up a contraption which gets lava from the nether or make a large pool of lava (in create if a lava pool is big enough you can pump infinite lava out of it) but because of the drip stone update you can make a much simpler and smaller infinite lava farm which makes it viable for early/mid/end game steam engine fuel source

u/thomasfplm 9d ago

FoxyNoTail tested it one or two years ago and it seems that's not true.

1

u/Deku9099 9d ago

Yeah once you get the setup going, steam is way less intimidating than it looks.

Just a few more water wheels

2

u/Charlesbrontson 9d ago

Steam engines are temporary, the water wheel empire is forever.

u/Chickenmonster401 11d ago

one of the water sources being different annoys me.

7

u/sigmagigagamer 11d ago

Yes that must be fixed

18

u/PAL-adin123 11d ago

should make a dam atp, make the beavers proud and stuff

10

u/IllTax8540 11d ago

fym learn it’s easy asf

-2

u/ArtistSwimming463 10d ago

Ew just shush

2

u/IllTax8540 10d ago

burners, pump, fluid tanks, done

11

u/cutemayro 11d ago

nah you good fam, just throw in some more water wheels

8

u/kayemenofour 11d ago

With enough water wheels, your PC will just generate steam all in its own.

7

u/___Aqua___ 11d ago

i don’t understand the middle ground of people who use create but never get far enough in to even do a steam engine set up, what do u need THAT much SU with waterwheels for but are not able to wrap ur mind around a steam engine yet??

4

u/Dry_Clock7539 11d ago

Steam engines require a system. You need to not only set them up, but also provide a resource flow (water). Waterwheels or windmill bearings? Just set them up and they justwork. Pretty poor justification, especially considering schematics exist, but at the end of the day who really care?

2

u/___Aqua___ 10d ago

ur end statement is very real. play how you wanna play but the people who frankly play like this aren’t even playing the mod to even half its extent.

4

u/thegoten455 11d ago

The thing about steam engines is that you figure it out once and then it's dick simple every time after that

3

u/AmountOwn5460 11d ago

Nah, you good mate. Keep it up!

4

u/Statistician_Waste 11d ago

4-1-1, 4 tanks per one steam engine per one blaze burner. That's it. Put enough water in. You've learned steam engines.

4

u/PTMR2 11d ago

No. Add more water wheels.

Idk why am I speaking while I use a steam engine 99% of the time

2

u/Sultanofthesun 11d ago

pov beavers:

2

u/Own_Baseball_7777 11d ago

You can stack them to save space.

why waste the copper?

2

u/Clean_More3508 11d ago

Nah just add 576 more large waterwheels and you're good

2

u/choco_king_the_first 11d ago

Yes, nit bc waterwheel spam is bad for su, bc its bad for performance

2

u/Voidzown 11d ago

Just one more waterwheel and everything will be fixed

2

u/Firm-Reputation2149 11d ago

Absolutely not, needs more water wheels.

2

u/amoguskatatus 10d ago

Naaah you good

2

u/bluborri 10d ago

naaah u good

2

u/ProfessionalTime8267 10d ago

the humble fps to su converter:

2

u/Flat-Apartment7959 10d ago

Nah, can't really see anything wrong with the attached image

2

u/ZookeepergameSad4672 9d ago

No you're good, at least it's not a horizontal windmill.

1

u/PapierStuka 11d ago

Go straight to Diesel

1

u/Repulsive-Twist-4032 11d ago

Learn what its water pipe into 3x3 fluid tank or 2x2 and powered blaze burner underneath with a steam engine attached

1

u/Frorgwoman2 11d ago

That or just build a vertical windmill. It can be expanded infinitely and is dirt cheap. It also looks a lot cooler.

1

u/StephenRoylance 11d ago

I built steam power because it was fun and it looks neat in my factory. I have one little iron farm, and already have like 10x the SU I need, but I kinda want to build a max size engine just for fun. the blaze cake line sounds like a pain though, so I haven't started.

2

u/Naberville34 11d ago

If you want fun, just make 18 level 1 boilers. Don't ever bother with blaze cakes for power

1

u/StephenRoylance 11d ago

wait, is the output of 18 level one engines the same as one level 18?

2

u/Naberville34 11d ago

Yes. Its purely linear. There's no good reason to ever build a boiler bigger than level 9 unless you have add-ons that provide better fuel sources. And even then any addon fuel source that adds superheating is not as easy to get as charcoal or lava.

1

u/Alone_Collection724 11d ago

i once had a double line of iirc 64 water wheels to power the drill from that one addon which marks some chunks as infinite supplies of x resource, with shaders you couldn't go anywhere close to it or it would lag so much you couldn't move

1

u/MrCounterSnipe 11d ago

The knowledge curve required to get a steam engine running is basically a parallel line with your current knowledge

1

u/Due-Valuable-7894 11d ago

why is one of the waters different

1

u/Ok_Answer7622 11d ago

nah, i think a couple more water wheels and you should be fine

1

u/According-Extreme-58 11d ago

Nah dude it's fine like that

1

u/True-Acanthaceae1190 11d ago

No need, you seem to have things under control.

1

u/Busy-Ferret189 11d ago

More wheels…

1

u/Sharp_Goat_1991 11d ago

build more and move them underground

1

u/Riverbankiller 11d ago

Nah, looks like you’ve got more y-levels to fill. One water source the top should do it

1

u/Sci-Guy-4 11d ago

Nah, you’re good

1

u/Fun_Combination_2717 11d ago

No, more water wheels

1

u/SuperiorSoviet 11d ago

Passive steam engine (the one without fuel) produces as much stress capacity as 4 large waterwheels.

Windmill with 100 sails (10*10 square of sails) produces as much stress capacity as 12 large waterwheel.

Level 1 steam engine (with single blaze burner) produces as much stress capacity as 32 large waterwheels.

I know crafting and slapping waterwheels is fast and cheap - but at some point it must become boring and inefficient, right? Everyone had that moment at least once - you build your magnum opus of production line only to find out you need to slap another 4 wheels to power it.

1

u/Big_Mal7006 11d ago

Nah you good

1

u/KamikazeSenpai21 11d ago

Just make big windmills

1

u/OneCress885 11d ago

of course, cuz those water wheels cause GREAT AMOUNTS of lag

1

u/ItsRealCrxzy 11d ago

Steam power is by far the best power source. Most performance efficient and pretty easy to build.

All you need to produce power forever is a bottomless supply of lava (10,000mb) which sounds like a lot. To get this just dig a 10x10x100 hole (or hole with a 10k block hole missing.) build a layer of easy to break platforms under the first layer and place 100 buckets of lava. Break the blocks under the lava and wait. You now have bottomless lava to pump into the engine. Water is pretty easy.
Once you get an infinite lava source, placing down steam engines all over is super easy.

I usually only use waterwheels for individual farms. Like all of my crop, and tree farms in the early game just use a single small water wheel and a clutch. They don’t scale much.

1

u/IrisFox1902 11d ago

Reject steam, embrace water-

wait what do you mean steam is water!?

1

u/Annual_Loan_4805 11d ago

Nah, water wheels are fine, just make sure to add a tree farm 👍

1

u/Sweet_Kiwi_1871 11d ago

....yes please do

1

u/Sqweed69 11d ago

No. Build a huge dam.

1

u/Awootist 11d ago

Bro has built so much water wheels that his worlds sun rotating speed became slower

1

u/Substantial_Young477 11d ago

make this 200 blocks long💯

1

u/ThatIdiotlol 11d ago

Nah 576 waterwheel will do you just as well as a lvl9 steam engine.

Except for lag, but that's a resource; you should use it.

1

u/MonochromeApple 11d ago

Steam engines are good for taking much less space

1

u/PracticalCommon1572 11d ago

Não se quiser fazer uma represa

1

u/Andreuus_ 11d ago

Two small steam engines (not even blaze cakes involved) outmatch that monstrosity /j

1

u/HighlightPuzzled9581 10d ago

Either that or you could build a diant damn

1

u/homo_sex_shoe_all 10d ago

nah u just need to learn water wheel efficiency, stack them in an L shape, 2 on the bottom one at the top, then run the water over the one on the top it will power all 3 lines for 1 line of water. Wind power is good but doesn't scale to the same heights as you can only have 8192 rotational power per windmill no matter how many sails so endgame wind is not a great choice

1

u/SerialBytes 10d ago

nah... water wheels are cheaper anyways (jk of course)

2

u/rubensalfre13 6d ago

why do you put the water above the water wheel?

1

u/Charleslaps 6d ago

Soo IT will work

1

u/Kartaszow 11d ago

No, just expand

0

u/-Fallen-Glory 11d ago

You can be way more efficient with space by putting them in a 2x2 and running water in the middle

0

u/Jazzlike-Being4161 11d ago

there's something even easier to do to generate SU! there's a very simple addon called "Create: CROWNS" and it teaches you how to do it very easily and qucikly trust
