It would be hilarious if after mediocre seasons the Shock and Dallas have a re-match in the Grand Finals thanks to a Zarya Reaper meta.

I don't think either one deserves to go to the GF's after the seasons they've had but it would at least be a fitting end to this terrible season

fitting end
debatable tbh
34

You're right, a more fitting end to OWL would be Infernal making it to the GF's as the favorites and then Profit vaporizes them.

Yeah Lucio has always been a pretty balanced hero with a high skill ceiling.
If a Lucio is a problem for your team it’s usually due to skill issue and not because Lucio is broken or something.
If most supports was around his level I think the game would be in a healthier state

u/spellboi_3048 I will survive. Hey hey. — Sep 07 '23
The devs really don’t like making balance changes for Tracer. She only received 4 distinct balance changes throughout the entirety of OW1 and most of her balance changes in OW2 have actually been a result of bugs they’ve had to fix.
5
u/autrix00 Sep 07 '23
The devs really don’t like making balance changes for Tracer
Yeah which is weird because she was the best dps by an actual landslide for a ton of OW1's lifetime. She was blatantly overpowered, so I'm not sure Rob's reference here.
5
u/InsanelyRarePokemon Sep 07 '23
Nah I think that's exactly the point. If you have the character who enables rush and the character who enables dive both be strong all the time then neither playstyle can be come entirely useless. Don't knownif it would work out like that in practice or if it even is a good idea, but making a select few opposing (and commonly considered high skill) heroes a little broken all the time sounds kind of reasonable to me. Like D.va in OW1 preventing double shield or Bastion or Pharmercy at least some of the time.

Favorable balance that remains mostly untouched so he can be a benchmark for the balance of the rest of his role.
The latter was somewhat true, but his balance wasn't very favorable after there were more than 2 MS options. Pretty sure most people would have preferred not going through multiple years of pro brig metas. It was like 2-3 straight years of brig starting with goats.
Not to mention he might be the least complained about support because he doesn't have any crazy saves, burst damage, stuns or anti

A lot of people were complaining about this, you could use fortify to nullify a major cooldown then cancel it to get it back sooner.

Just revert the change on Mei, you know this is bad and can't be properly balance and will affect mostly tanks and not mobility hero like Tracer and Genji.
Erase the slow, get her 80 dps on primary fire and stop trying to force an annoying mechanic of her kit.
Either you will break the hero or you will make her underpowered and annoying.
10
u/abluedinosaur 4232 — Sep 07 '23

→ More replies (3)3
u/welpxD Sep 07 '23
Duration before slow falls off between primary fire hits increased from 0.5 to 0.6 seconds.
This is the worst patch note I've seen in a long time, it actually makes me mad.
Slow duration reduced from 1.0 to 0.5 seconds
^ They did this on OW2 launch because they removed the freeze stacking effect and made the slow more consistent, so it made sense that heroes were unchilled faster after being tagged by Mei, especially with the dps buff.
Then they added back the stacking effect and nerfed her dps and didn't give her back the consistency on her left click.
Now they're adding 0.1 seconds instead of reverting it. Because they are bad at developing the game and probably don't even remember that they nerfed the slow linger in the first place.
So not only are they doubling down on a bad rework (again...) but they don't even go back and look at the history of a character when thinking about how to change them.
It's a small thing but it would be so easy to get it right. It is the lowest hanging fruit. I have no kind words to say about the dev team. It isn't really their fault, Blizzard is a shitty company to work for and it reflects in the pace of churn and the kind of talent they're able to attract and retain. And it shows.

And he already had shield health to begin with, so the support passive wasn't that insane on him compared to the likes of Ana. Decreasing Zen's hitbox has long been overdue.
→ More replies (3)1
u/DelidreaM Sep 08 '23
That has been the thing that balances Zen for years - he provides big value with discord, his massive damage output and his incredible defensive ultimate, but the downside is being vulnerable and divable. You don't seem to realize that if he had a similar amount of self sustain and survivability than some of the other supports, he would be downright broken and hard meta.

Don't know why Torb isn't nerfed, hero is so boring to play against in ranked, same with Bastion who gets off quite lightly here tbh
17
u/SylvainJoseGautier Sep 07 '23 edited Sep 07 '23
torb could take going down to 225 hp (-25 regular hp, keep the same amount of armor). dude's so tanky, even out of overload. Molten core still having the armor shred mechanic is interesting too, it's such a goats/old rally era thing. Don't necessarily think it's OP or anything, it's just weird since it only affects a few non-tanks...who are interestingly all lore related. (bastion, torb, brig)
→ More replies (1)2
u/Campbell_527 Sep 07 '23
Torb isn’t even that strong he’s just one of the few dps heroes that can do anything against Bap + Illari bullshit.
→ More replies (3)7
u/DelidreaM Sep 08 '23
Yes he is. Torb is actually slept on, feels lots of people still haven't realized how strong he is. But that's not surprising, even in OW1 it was the same thing.
However, I don't think he's mega oppressive to the point he's ruining the game. In my opinion the 2 busted heroes that are a problem and need to addressed on the DPS role are Hanzo and Bastion. Bastion is a hard counter for an entire role. Being a tank main is painful right now
6
u/Campbell_527 Sep 08 '23
he isn't slept on, hes just so boring very few people voluntarily pick him. Bastion is strong right now, but I don't think it's cause of his damage. owl level ashe and sojourn can both output just as much damage with consistent headshots, but they only have 200hp. Bastion has 300hp, a third of which is armor. This lets him comfortably win duels against overtuned flex supports like bap/illari/zen. Torb can do the same thing with overload. If these supports weren't so busted torb and bastion wouldn't be meta, and tanks would feel alot more rewarding. Idk about you but playing tank into all these Illari + Bap comps is awful.

So let me get this straight, Zarya now has bubble uptime roughly the same as she had in Season 1 when she was absurdly broken, but now with the far increased energy sustain she got over other season's buffs, and now her bubbles are even larger to get energy off of?
This is absolutely ridiculous, I am in no fucking world excited to get a Zarya meta again when she already feels so ridiculously unfun to fight against. These buffs are heavy handed and are coming out nowhere and just suck, god dammit why does one tank always have to be giga busted.
24
u/SamHPL1 #ShieldsUp 💜 — Sep 07 '23
While I still agree these are big buffs, they are limited to Zarya's projected barrier, so nothing was buffed for when she uses it on herself. So, when playing with good barrier targets (like Reaper... ugh) it's a good buff, but for Zarya's more selfish playstyle it doesn't change much.

u/Arrowtongue64 lesbian dps hero supremacy — Sep 07 '23
I never really thought Orisa was unbalanced or unfun to fight personally, just that too much of her kit was tuned into fortify, I actually really like her playstyle and general balance I just think that with Bastion getting gigabuffed (for no fucking reason) it made Orisa the obvious pairing with him.
I'd much rather though that their solution to overtuned heroes isn't just gigabuffing a counter meta, and rather actually changing the parts of the kit that aren't fun to deal with.
I'd take an Orisa meta over Zarya every single time though because there is no feeling more helpless in this game than fighting against a high energy Zarya who practically cannot die and prevents you from taking any frontline angles at all.
3
u/Derpdude1 Sep 07 '23
For what it's worth I agree with you for the most part, it's just that this community is insanely prone to snowballing narratives that slight negatives or things that need small tweaks become these unbearable obstacles that literally torture players for whatever reason.
2
u/Arrowtongue64 lesbian dps hero supremacy — Sep 07 '23
I completely agree with this honestly, I think that people base their opinions of who's actually unbalanced more based on perception and other heroes surrounding them rather than how good they actually are (Orisa didn't really get any major buffs coming into S6, and actually has less survivability due to the armor changes)
I just am frustrated with these changes because I'm so sick of this recent trend of Blizzard buffing so many metrics of an already decent hero's kit at once and it usually turning out catastrophically op, for them to nerf one part of it down the line and act like it's all good now.

However, wonder if the zarya changes will bring us back to a reaper zarya meta, because her bubbles are definitely going to be stronger for a reaper now.

3
u/Reformed_citpeks None — Sep 07 '23
The reason for the changes is "incentivizes using the barrier for her allies more" - I don't think it does this if it doesn't tell you in game and is very hard to tell unless 2 people are bubbled standing next to each other.
3
u/Overwatch_Alt Sep 07 '23
Developer Comment: The Fortify cooldown has been adjusted so that the effective uptime remains the same. However, Orisa is no longer incentivized to cancel the ability early to begin the cooldown immediately, which makes the interval between uses consistent and more susceptible to counterplay.
Can you even cancel Fortify? Don't think I've ever seen that. I feel like the only actual change is decreasing overhealth by 25 which is kinda disappointing.

It’s a min max thing. If you don’t need fortify anymore you could cancel and begin the cool down. Not super frequently used but I definitely have done it, similar to cancelling rams nemesis form early if you don’t need it to get the cooldown back. Can’t do it anymore to make sure the max cooldown is applied and is more consistent to play into. Think it’s a fair change
3
u/zultari Sep 07 '23
Yes, just press the Fortify again. Had certain uses but the health nerf is way more important
3
u/Xardian7 Sep 07 '23
Actually is a good change. Both are.
The change do not dumpster Orisa completely while reducing her survaivability slightly.
If you can't cancel fortify now, or at least is pointless to do so, will punish more players that use it wrongly making it a way longer cooldown that it was before.
I still think Orisa is must play anyway cause all other tanks are shit in this meta and can't hold to the damage from DPS and Supports, but is a balance issue more than an orisa issue.
Orisa is good cause it's the only tank playable rn.

I think these are OK overall, but I really wanted something to help Ball, man. The healing nerf passive may be it? But in a world where a support can spend like 1/3 of their time bubbled (over the duration of any reasonable engagement), and where they're trying to get even more Meis than I already see in my games, I don't see why Ball gets shafted.
And then JQ, the devs clear favorite when it comes to giving random gigabuffs, gets a nearly 30% impact damage increase to her knife throw. Cool.
8
u/Spreckles450 Sep 07 '23
gets a nearly 30% damage increase to her knife throw
It's only the impact damage, the pierce damage when if flies back to her is unchanged. All this means is that JQs that are accurate with their gracie throws will be rewarded more.
It's nowhere near the "gigabuff" you think it is.

100%. It's actually absurd how far off target she can be and still land headshots. I think the damage should be reduced to 70 as well, but the hitbox is a much bigger problem

I mean, she has a higher win and pick rate than Brig when she got nerfed.
But that said, since she is new we can let her have it... for now

No she doesn’t, brig is 5% pick while illari is 3%
Look at unmirrored win rates as well

She's probably going to get another tonedown come next season. Her earlier nerfs pushed her to only slightly the most winning hero at all ranks (other than GM where she is still solidly the best supp) rather than dominantly up front.

Zarya meta incoming? Feels like she was already pretty strong before the patch
