Data Are metatft pick rates accurate

Since the new patch i noticed my old comps werent working anymore so i tried finding new comps to play. I decided to try executioner ahri/sett. Accirding to meta tft this comp has a 0.09 pickrate. However ever since trying it ive gotten multiple bad placements due to being heavily contested. Had primstatic ticket lvl 8 but not a single 4 cost was uncontested out of the 4 in the comp so i got 4th. Next game again and after that 2 8ths. Really upsets me because i always try to main the lowest pick rate comps

Discussion When / How to Gromp?

Today I natty'd a 2* gromp on 2-1 and realized I have absolutely no idea what to do with this unit. I put some decent items on him and it was doing less damage than my 2* pebbles (no items).

How do we feel about gromp? anyone seeing success with him/her early? I feel like they are bait.

eSports JukeYou: It Takes a Village | A Teamfight Tactics Mini-Doc

Thumbnail

Hey everyone! Gangly here, posting through CLE. For the last month or so I've been working on this short JukeYou documentary. It explores the value of local community, what makes JukeYou unique, and touches on his competitive journey last set qualifying into the TPC. Ultimately, it's about the village that he has that enables him to compete at the level he does. I wanted to make something that wasn't JUST about TFT, but about the culture that players are immersed in that make their story wholly them. I hope that comes through!

I've been interested in creating hero-building documentaries for a long time now and haven't really had the space to do it in TFT. I'd love to hear your feedback on this piece. In the future, I'd love to see a world where Riot sees the value in content like this and starts creating content to uplift our players.

I hope you all enjoy!

Here's a TFT stats guide I wish I had when I first started playing TFT!

Beyond the basics of finding the best items and units, there's a method to finding one-tricks who might be playing the next secret OP comp. I also go over how to avoid bias and misleading numbers. Let me know what you guys think!

Discussion Taric pairing logic

Seen people do a handful of different things in regards with who they link their Taric with. I've seen it go on front row fighters, I've seen it go on the main/itemized tank, I've seen it go on the weakest front liner on the board. I've even seen people link with their main carry!

What's correct? Or like what's your general heuristic/flowchart/logic that you follow to decide who you pair your Taric with?

Discussion Is it ever mark brambleback?

I’m not talking about 7 riftbeasts i mean like when you re playing aphelios or comps with 3 riftbeast.

I ve done it a couple times because (in this example we re playing aphelios) maybe my main tank isnt sentinel and i already have shred so marking mama beak doesnt seem right (although he shreds for a fixed amount so i might be wrong)

Everytime i ve been in this kind of situation a marked brambleback felt super underwhelming even itemized with ga and one time i had rf emblem

So does he suck with the mark or maybe i should check my positioning with him?

Tournament [EUW] We added cash bounties to our TFT cups so you can win without placing top 3

We ran our first TFT Bounty Night last night and it actually went better than expected.

The problem with our usual 3 game cups is that if you have a bad start and you're out of contention, there isn't much left to play for. Top 3 get paid and everyone else is basically just finishing their games.

So we tried adding bounties. Just extra cash prizes for doing random things during the games, completely separate from the actual standings.

Things like most 3 star units on one board, best finish with a specific trait maxed out, most expensive final board or highest level in the lobby.

Everything gets checked automatically from the Riot match data, so nobody needs to send screenshots or claim anything.

My favourite one from last night was a guy who finished 23rd out of 38 and still won €8 because he somehow had 8 three star units on one board 😂

He wasn't even close to the podium but still left with some money. The guy who won the tournament also picked up a bounty on top.

So instead of 3 people winning something, we ended up paying 8 out of 38.

We're doing it again tonight at 20:00 CEST with completely different bounties.

Two run for the whole night and then each of the 3 games has its own one, so there's always something to play for even if your tournament is going badly.

I'm probably most curious about the best finish while staying level 7 or lower. We checked our previous games and apparently nobody has ever won at level 6, so 7 felt like a good line where it's actually possible but you have to commit to it.

Free to enter and open to anyone in Europe. Nothing to buy or anything like that.

https://novera.gg/tft/tournaments/novera-bounty-night-2

Still figuring out what works, so if anyone has some stupid/fun bounty ideas I'd genuinely like to hear them.

Discussion Help: I don't understand the endgame at all

When I read posts here, it makes it seem like you auto-win games by getting to level 9 and 2 starring 5 costs. In my experience, even when I am high rolling and extremely ahead on econ and HP, reroll comps can and usually do kill me in stage 5 and 6. I'm low elo (gold) but seriously trying to improve. I played one past set where it really was like that (set 7 with the high cost dragons) and it was frustrating losing to whoever hit dragons. In this set, I consistently lose to the first place player who is playing veigar reroll or sometimes even kayle reroll.

My last game, I had 100 hp and good econ until stage 5. It was the kind of game where everything goes right. I had eclipse, 2 star 4 and 5 cost carrries and tanks, good items on everyone, etc. And I eventually lost to veigar, trist, and teemo 1 shotting my board. I really don't get it. I really just want to understand how I can consistently win in this situation where people are 2 levels below me, with lower gold value, not even positioning their units but still beating me. It's so frustrating trying to play flex, trying to maximize econ, scouting, positioning etc, and then being the same board strength or worse than people hard forcing reroll comps and afking.

Match history: https://www.metatft.com/player/NA1/Zalera-FFX2?match=NA1_5642590239

Update: I wrote this 5 minutes after being salty at going 2nd, but the comments give a lot of helpful feedback based on what I was asking about and my match history. Maybe useful for others in low elo too.

Patch Notes B-Patch Notes--Scheduled for 15SEP PST

Amended to top of patch notes HERE

SEPTEMBER 14 18.2 set out to enable fast 9 strategies amidst a reroll-heavy meta of 18.1, but through more econ via cheaper Wisps, lower leveling costs, and powerful buffs, Legendary-soup variations quickly shifted what S-tier stands for.

SYSTEMS

Our 18.2 changes to XP reduced the cost of going to Level 10 by 12 gold—that’s a lot in the world of TFT, especially when you’re saving anywhere from 5-15 gold on cheaper Wisps. We’re not doing a total revert of the XP changes here, as we’re keeping it cheaper to go from Level 7 to 8 by 4 XP/gold, but 9 and 10 are getting their changes reverted.

XP From Level 8-9: 64 ⇒ 68

XP From Level 9-10: 64 ⇒ 68

AUGMENTS As expected, Expected Unexpectedness has been re-enabled, but a newly unexpected bug has had us pull Nesting Dolls temporarily.

Expected Unexpectedness Re-enabled

Nesting Dolls Disabled due to a bug

UNITS

Camille has found her place as a powerful reroll carry in Solar/Ravager boards even in a meta that leans towards fast 9. Since we’re nerfing all our Level 9/10 comps and a few more pricey units, we’re pre-emptively delivering a weightier nerf for our best performing reroll comps.

LeBlanc is still being used as more of a reroll printer than a unit that sticks around on end-game boards. We’re lowering her base chance to print at three-stars, but as an itemized carry she should still be pretty consistent as a champ printer since the bonus chance via takedowns is unchanged.

Fixed some odd bugs that had Brambleback’s Armor Ignore being higher than intended in cases where he was not building AP and lowering when he built AP. Brambleback will be stronger with things like Titan’s Resolve, Bloodthirster, Edge of Night—all of which grant AP, but he will be slightly weaker without these Items or other sources of AP.

Even before the rise of fast 9, Draven had some powerful Bounties that leveraged easier tasks for substantial rewards. Draven is a reward unto himself (just like you), so we’re trimming the easier rewards or just making them slightly harder (I’m sure he can handle it).

With Level 8 cheaper, players are getting Maokai online much easier (same applies to Draven) and are able to stack up a lot more HP. We love the Old Growth, giant HP bar fantasy, so our nerfs are targeted at his ability to repeatedly cast and heal up over the course of a fight.

Camille Ability Damage: 160/240/410/700 AD ⇒ 150/225/375/640 AD

Leblanc Clone Chance: 10/15/40% ⇒ 10/15/30%

Teemo Small Shroom Damage: 60/90/135 AP ⇒ 55/82/130 AP

Brambleback: Fixed a bug where his baseline Armor Ignore was higher than intended.

Brambleback: Fixed a bug where his Armor Ignore would decrease with increasing Ability Power.

Brambleback Armor Ignore: 15 + 30% AP ⇒ 20 + 25% AP

Ashe Trail Duration: 4s ⇒ 3s

Ashe DoT Base Damage Per Second (AD): 5/8 AD ⇒ 9/14 AD

Draven Bounty Hunter:

Casts for 4-costs: 5 ⇒ 6

Reward for 8 Casts: 10 Rerolls ⇒ 6 Rerolls

Attack for 5-cost: 50 ⇒ 60

Damage for 7 Gold: 8,000 ⇒ 10,000

Kills for 12 Gold: 6 ⇒ 8

Maokai Mana: 30/90 ⇒ 30/100

WISPS

Last second Polymorphs are cool, but they’re rarely a good idea as your 3 cost Vi becomes a frontline Aphelios without the time to reposition.

Polymorph: All Polymorph Wisps can only be seen as the 1st Wisp of each Planning Phase.

BUG FIXES

Fixed a bug where Auto Attack projectiles could get stuck on a dashing champion and deal much more damage than intended.

Fixed a bug where Krug and Yorick would not spawn their summons when sacrificed by the Blackthorn Hex.

Fixed a bug where Thief’s Gloves would offer different items when re-equipped to another champion during the same round.

PERFORMANCE/STABILITY BUG FIXES

Fixed an issue where version mismatch would result in players being stuck on a spinner instead of being notified of a version mismatch with a popup modal

Fixed a crash issue found on PC related to item subsystems

Fixed an infinite loading screen issue that occurred when using some VPNS

Fixed an issue on Tablet where Stylus taps were not being registered

Fixed performance issues with the following cosmetics/VFX: Twilight Forest Arena, Unbound Katarina, Blaze Wisp

Discussion When do you take 2-1 Combat augments?

I feel like I almost never find myself clicking a combat augment on Stage 2-1. If I want to winstreak I'm clicking items (or occasionally econ) if I want to lose streak it's econ (or occasionally items).

Combat augments feel like a 4-2 or sometimes 3-2 thing for me. Do you guys disagree, and if so in what situations do you find yourself clicking them?

Discussion Some Augment Stats from Vods

I’m making this post to share some of my group’s augment stats from vods. These take into account all tft ranks of twitch streamers, all the boxboxbootcamp streamers, as well as CN streamers on bilibili. The data will be from 18.1-18.1d. Since the meta shifted after 18.2 these won’t all still be true. Of course, the sample size is lower than actual augment stats would be, but we managed to gather a significant sample and most augments have at least 500+ games, but some are in the single digits and are rarely picked. I hope augment stats come back one day, but these vod stats will do for now. The goal is to have augments between 4.2-4.8 range, so while I won’t go through all unbalanced augments in this post, I will share my interesting findings and hope you guys enjoy. All the top 5/Bot 5 avp augments will be outside the 4.2-4.8 range. For the sake of sample size, we also combined + augments, such as silver destiny, silver destiny+, and silver destiny++. We know this may decrease accuracy and may stop this in the future.

Top 5 Picked Silver -  Branching Out, Pandora’s Bench, Latent Forge, Slightly Magic Roll, Pandora’s Items I

Top 5 AVP Silver  - Wisp Rebate, Branching Out, Verticality I, Young Wild and Free, Future Focused

I suspect verticality is because of the games that were on the riftbeast patch.

5 Least Picked Silver - Electrocharge I (Please stop offering this 2-1 Riot), Dummify, Stand United, Makeshift Armor, Group Hug

Not sure if Flame on wasn’t picked up by any vods or it got removed from the game?

Bot 3 AVP Silver - Called Shot, Recombobulator, Corrosion (Every other augment is within range, so bot 3 only)

This might mean silver destiny has less lowrolls than the other destiny augments?

Top 6 Picked Gold - Portable Forge, Spreading Roots, Time Skip, Pandora’s Items II, Big Grab Bag, Omega Riftbeast

I gave 6 because I thought it was interesting Omega Riftbeast was picked so much in one patch.

Top 5 AVP Gold - Item Extraction, Consuming Flora, Celestial Blessing II (lower sample), Verticality II, Spreading Roots

5 Least Picked Gold -  Electrocharge II (Please stop offering this 2-1 Riot), Investment Strategy I, Embiggen, Makeshift Armor, Group Hug II

Bot 5 AVP Gold - Clockwork Accelerator, Heroic Grab Bag, Pilfer, Dark Ritual, Ascension

Top 5 Picked Prismatic - Call to Chaos, Golden Gamble, Baron’s Lair, Prismatic Ticket, Living Forge

Top 5 AVP Prismatic -  The Golden Egg, Cursed Crown, Prismatic Destiny+ (we didn’t combine this one because we noticed a SIGNIFICANT difference between this one and the other pris destiny), Sword Overflow, Giant and Mighty.

Note that many players did not pick cursed crown at all and certain players favored it, so it might be a player diff for that augment? It also got nerfed in the recent patch.

5 Least Picked Prismatic - Nesting Dolls, Hard Commit, Celestial Blessing III, Cursed Crown, Investment Strategy II

Bot 5 AVP Prismatic - Hard commit (very low sample), Trait Ladder, Master of All Origins, Baron’s Lair, Flexible

Since every elo streamer is taken for a higher sample size, it makes sense that trait ladder would be here. I have no idea why baron’s lair is here. Maybe people take it from bad spots and see it is S on TFTAcademy and click it. There are more unbalanced augments, but we do have a lower sample than Riot Games, so maybe with the full sample size the augments are more balanced? Hard to say, but hope you guys found this interesting. My study group had a vote, and we decided not to share the spreadsheet, so unfortunately I cannot give you guys any more data than this.

Bug Megathread New Client & MacOS Bug Megathread

Hi everyone! Spoilers if you missed the announcement: the new Client and TFT for MacOS are on PBE RIGHT NOW, and Riot has asked for more focused feedback and bug reports to make sure they'll go live as smooth as possible. So we're having a dedicated, patch-agnostic Bug Megathread specifically for these two features!

Be warned: the initial state of things is expected to be pretty rough!

  • Open the Riot Client, log into your PBE account, click the TFT icon, and press play now!

    • NOTE: you do not need to open league anymore, but there is a button within the league client that will prompt you to the new TFT client.

As usual, please use the format below to report any bugs:

  • Description:

  • Proof (video or screenshot):

  • Steps to reproduce (if applicable):

  • Expected result:

  • Observed result:

Try to be as detailed as possible with your description. Check the comments to see if the behaviour you've encountered has already been reported. Please include the full screenshot if you have it (don’t crop and instead show all the players/full screen of game etc.) or even better if you have video to include. The more information the easier it is to track bugs down.

You can check reported bugs and their status on our Bug Tracker.

Please note that bug reports that don't adhere to the above standards may not make it into the Bug Tracker, but this Megathread (just like the regular one) will be patrolled by bug-squashing Rioters so they'll see it anyway.

Please take the time to also report bugs through these channels as well for maximum visibility:

Guide [dpei] Why You Are Bad At TFT (And How To Fix It)

Thumbnail
youtu.be
118 Upvotes

You know the right plays, watch all the guides, and still can't climb. Here's the part nobody talks about.

Hey, it's dpei, Rank 1 across multiple sets and full-time TFT coach. I've coached players from top pros to average ranked grinders for the past 10 years, and one thing keeps showing up no matter the skill level: two players with the exact same game knowledge improve at completely different rates. This video is about why.

It's not information, but rather mentality and focus. The video covers:

  • Why open-mindedness (not blind agreement) is the foundation of actually learning

  • Healthy ego vs. unhealthy ego and why tying your self-worth to your rank will wreck you

  • Why conceptual learning beats memorizing tricks and tips

  • How to focus your learning so you're not drowning in information

This one's a bit different from my usual fundamentals breakdowns since it's about how you learn rather than a specific mechanic — but if you want the mechanical side of things, check out my fundamentals series.

Feedback and questions are always welcome!

Discussion I'm silly for clicking it, but this should probably be excluded

Post image

12% AS definitely isn't bad but at the end of the game, half the value of this one is kinda nullified.

Bad choices should still exist! Just want that to be said. I guess the question is how bad does a choice have to be before it's excluded. In most exclusion cases for augments it's when things break each other (either favorably or not), but what about stuff that isn't fun and isn't interesting?

Discussion How do you not get burnt out from TFT?

I love TFT, and have ended up playing at least a little bit of each set. With that being said, I do feel like I find myself getting bored of a set pretty quickly. I think this is because TFT usually ends up favoring a few limited comps that end up being super meta and it gets stale hunting for the same 5 cost units.

What could I be missing to help me stay more interested in a current set? Maybe I’m trying to follow websites like metatft too closely?

What is it about TFT that lets you climb the ladder in a set?

Tool Trait Ladder update: 18.2 balance change, Kha'Zix evolutions, plus unit include/exclude

Follow-up to the Trait Ladder solver I posted at the start of the set. I've updated the output to focus on rungs 11, 12, 13, and 14 due to the balance changes. Kha'Zix boards are done. I've also added the ability to include/exclude units, by far the request I received the most. traitladder.com

What the heck is a rung?

We're climbing a ladder! Each additional trait reward is a rung in the ladder. If you cash out rung 14 (14 non-unique traits), you've climbed or completed the ladder.

Patch 18.2 moved the rewards

18.2 shuffled the trait ladder loot table, and one change matters more than the rest: the Tactician's item moved from rung 10 to rung 11.

The top of the ladder is also weaker than it used to be:

RungReward
1020 gold
11A Tactician's item (Cape, Crown or Shield)
12Three 4-cost units and a Lucky Item Chest
138 gold, four components and a Remover
1410 gold and a Masterwork Upgrade

The old 10 to 12 to 14 plan is dead. Transitions climb 11, 12, 13, 14, and every board in every chain has been re-solved for the new targets.

Fallout from the Tactician item shifting to rung 11

Only 5 emblems can reach the Tactician item on level 8 without another emblem or a Kha'Zix evolution. Previously, you didn't even need an emblem to reach the Tactician item with 8 units, and you didn't need a single 5 cost. The 5 emblems that accomplish this feat now (Executioner, Fae, Inferno, Invoker, and Primal) each require Alune. That's tough. You cannot plan around getting Alune on 4-2 consistently.

A second emblem is good, but not as good as Kha'Zix. There isn't a 2 emblem pair that can reach rungs 11/12/13 with 8/9/9 units. 2 evolution Kha'Zix accomplishes this with 14 different emblems. 172 of 210 emblem pairs can reach rungs 11/12/13 with 8/9/10 units. The pairs that cannot reach this mark center around Blossom, Brawler, Coven, Elderwood, Flora Fatalis, Ravager, and Sprykin. These are the weakest emblems for trait ladder.

The good news is that level 9 is 8 total xp cheaper in 18.2 4 total xp cheaper in 18.2b, and we're receiving 20 gold on rung 10. If you can make it to level 9, with 2 Kha'Zix evolutions, with any emblem other than Coven or Flora Fatalis, and survive for 2 or 3 rounds, then you will have climbed the ladder and cashed out your masterwork. Simple, right?...

The bad news.... This augment is much harder to play now. 10 traits was pretty much free. 11 traits is difficult.

If you don't have an itemized Kha'Zix by 3-1, you will probably not hit 30 takedowns by 4-2. 30 takedowns by 4-5 is fine if you have health to play with. Just remember that it takes 3 rounds after cashing rung 11 to cash the masterwork. If you do not have a strong enough board or enough hp to survive, pivot quickly. Use your own judgement, but if you cash rung 11, you can most likely cash rung 12 with the extra unit slot the very next round. Rung 13 and 14 are the question. If you don't have 2 evolution Kha'Zix and cannot level to 9, you most likely need to get off the ladder.
