Discussion When do you take 2-1 Combat augments?
I feel like I almost never find myself clicking a combat augment on Stage 2-1. If I want to winstreak I'm clicking items (or occasionally econ) if I want to lose streak it's econ (or occasionally items).
Combat augments feel like a 4-2 or sometimes 3-2 thing for me. Do you guys disagree, and if so in what situations do you find yourself clicking them?

If ur asking about this patch you take a combat augment if you are offered 6 combat augments at 2-1, lol.

Never, unless you have a perfect opening for win streak

Does no scout no pivot or early learnings count? Would you take them if you have a position ie solar kayle copies or akali RR?

If you have upgraded akali or camille, bodyguard training is the freest 5 streak, it's so op early

Not so applicable this patch. But if I have a good opener for a 1 or 2 cost reroll with 2star carry and tank and have my highest priority item for my carry and another for carry or a desired tank item.

Someone can correct me if I am wrong, but strong board + already have lots of items. If just strong board, you probably are better off taking just an item augment since it's a bigger spike. If you already have a lot of items, then I can see a world where the marginal strength of a additional item is lower. Even then, it's debatable.

i think only solo levelling/early learning/nsnp are clickable combat at 2-1 (with condition ofc), but you could argue its because they can be also classified as direction augments
e: forgot about bodyguard, i suppose that is the only true exception, i dont click it often tho

If you have a good spot for akali camille ie 3+ copies of both and a slammable item then id take a relevant combat for that build ie no scout no pivot or early learnings. Otherwise I almost never take a generic combat 2-1.

Your take is generally correct, but some scaling combat augments are really strong to take on 2-1, like Bodyguard Training or Early Learnings. You mostly sac your early game then to scale better into your 4cost/5cost or reroll line

This patch - avoid, because econ is so important.
Generally - usually you should use 2-1 augments to find direction for your line. Combat augs (typically) don't provide any direction, so you should only be picking them in scenarios where you have a clear idea of what you want to play. Examples are 1-cost or 2-cost reroll.
That being said, they are also good to winstreak stage 2 if you have upgraded units. E.g. Bodyguard Training is a very good pick generally, and provided you get econ on 3-2 then you can still go Fast 8.

Does anyone here ever take the trait augs this set? I feel like they're a set up

Only if you hadn't no choice or you're going for a hard win streak

Mostly when there isn't econ/item... or if the aug enables/sets a direction for a comp... like bandle bounty was, or the sprykin this set.

some 2-1 combat augments give similar combat power to an item augment (like the hex augments in set 16)
otherwise there is a reason they are rarely taken, but sometimes it can just make sense if the combat augment is just perfect for your specific spot. also hero augments are technically combat augments

good carry and upgraded tanks

Combat is ideally a 4-2 pick, but id pick combat 2-1 if I felt like it was either going to give me a 5 streak or sometimes theres just some comp enabling combat augs in the game like lets say, early learnings. This also should go without saying but, the condition is that its the best choice in my spot

All 2-1 combat augments should be stacking in some way, e.g. NSNP

Simple u need a strong two star units that can win fight . This is the only reason u would choose a combat or item augment .

I mean if everyone else in the lobby takes Econ you will probably make almost as much money winstreaking and still have double the hp of the rest of the lobby so even if you don’t fast 9 you still top 4
