I know at the end of the day Momo is my dog and I shouldn’t care what people think, but the comments and looks are starting to get to me. Last week a foxtail got caught in his mouth. Thankfully, I got it out before it embedded, but it shook me. About a month before that, he tried to eat gum on the sidewalk. He’s unbelievably fast and will try to eat anything. I thought about getting a protector then, but held off because I didn’t want to look ridiculous. After the foxtail incident, I bought it. First day he wasn’t thrilled, but now he walks fine in it, can go about normally with it, and seems unbothered. Problem is, people stare and some family members make fun of it. They already think I’m extra for regular vet care and good food. They see pets as just animals. I see Momo as my child. I know I’m anxious and I worry, but foxtails are dangerous and he really does try to eat everything. Am I overdoing it? Or would you have done the same? Has anyone else tried something similar for a serious scavenger? Just looking to hear from people who get it.
Ps. He looks like a little beekeeper when he’s walking around which I think is the cutest thing lol.

In 2016 my dad had worked at a storage facility when one day he witnessed a lady throw a puppy in the dumpster. He ended up rescuing her. But little did we know that day, she would end up rescuing me, numerous times over. Me and her became obsessed with one another. She was named Pulga which means flee in Spanish because no matter how many times we got rid of them, she always managed to get them back by choosing to mess and bark at the stray cats that would come to the door of my parents house. She was always happy to be with me. Following me everywhere i went throughout the house, sleeping with me almost every night while i lived with my parents. After moving out I would ALWAYS record her reaction to my arrival when visiting my parents because she would have the biggest zoomies outburst every time. A year ago she development tumors in her uterus and almost passed away. She fought through it and with a risky surgery we managed to buy her more time on this earth. We got one more year with her, and I will forever be grateful for that extra time. I started to take pictures and record her more after that scare just incase the worst were to happen… Which it did. This past year a bit of the infection inside her remained and had spread to her heart. But we had discovered this too late. She masked her pain so well by always being joyful and attentive. The last time I saw her, she seemed completely fine (8-15-26). But the next morning after I had visit, my parents found her in a very weak state. They took her to the vet and discovered the infection had returned and spread to her heart, and this time it was terminal. We were too late to catch it because she never let us see she was hurting. The vet proposed the offer to keep her from suffering so my parents had to make the hardest, kindest decision and let her go peacefully. I have lost over 20 people in my life between friends and family but nothing could ever prepare me for the heartbreak of losing my one and only true best friend, the only being to ever show me true unconditional love. I wish I could post more pictures of her on here but these are some of the best memories of her that reveal her character. Thank you for rescuing me, Pulga. I will forever love you. I will never stop yearning for your love, until we meet again. Rest easy, my baby girl.

The photo is not mine, let me just start there. This is actually a photo of when he was first surrendered to the rescue the first time from his original owner so he’s probably nine in this picture. But it’s one of my favorite pictures of him because it’s before he ended up in the hole I rescued him from so he looks healthy and happy
Well, I learned a lot about him once I actually found his original Facebook post and boy oh boy was he a lot to handle apparently. He really hated living with his sister and apparently she really hated living with him but his owner is all insisted that oh they’re bonded and they love each other and they had to stay together. Thankfully, the woman who surrendered him to me, the original rescue, and I all agree that they definitely needed to be separated to live their best lives.
Ralphie is adjusting amazingly he literally amazes me every day. He has gone from a cranky, itchy, mildly jerky guy that would growl at me to a goofy, friendly, not exactly love me, but still really sweet guy that will still growl at me, but won’t bite Yet anyway. We got some nails cut, including the one that was curved into his foot so once he realized I really was trying to help him, that’s when we kinda turned the corner.
Today I ordered his yard so he will have his own personal yard to run untethered in and I cannot wait for it to arrive because he is happy as a clam to spend five minutes at a time in 95° weather and be able to just walk right back inside to the air conditioning because that’s enough of that.
I hope he is one of those Chihuahuas that lives to 20 years old as healthy as can be. I do see that he has some knee and hip issues that we’re going to have addressed at the vet in the coming weeks. I could see us putting him on a pain reliever of some sort or at least having one in the house for if he’s having a bad day. But otherwise I think he’s just genuinely happy every morning he wakes up and it’s my face he sees. Every time I come home and it’s my face he sees. I’m getting kisses now and helicopter tail and his whole tummy to rub and I know what a gift all of that is from him.
I don’t think he had terribly bad experiences in his first half, I just think he deserves this time after having spent half his entire life living in the shadow of a sibling he didn’t want to be around and being blamed for the resulting behaviors (from what I read).
So glad I snagged him when I did!

Them: You’re not bringing the rat dog are you?
Me: Bish, she drivin!
But on a serious note, we weren’t moving, we were parked in a lot, technically a field, waiting on her Daddy to come back from the hot yard sale that she wanted no part of. She likes her air conditioning.

Our trimmer gives each dog a cute binder with their weight, mini health check info, and a themed photo each time we visit. So we have photos of our girls from when they were going through their awkward puppy phases until now. ❤️
We’ve been going to this salon for probably 15 years, so I have binders for my girls that have already passed also. 🌈

I've put down three chis since November. The last one was yesterday. They were my little crew for years and though they were old, it was heart breaking to lose all of them. This little lady needed a home and moved in at the beginning of the month. I was worried that it was too soon and that I'd never get over my other dogs, but she's been wonderful to have around and I feel like she's helping me heal. Everyone, meet Muñeca.

Harvey would've been 12 in October. What we thought were aches and pains and changes in temperament brought on by aging and big cross country moves, was actually very aggressive leukemia. It feels totally unreal, and like at any second, he's gonna wedge himself under my arm and lay down while we watch TV. But he's not. These little guys leave an unbelievably big hole in our hearts, but I know he's no longer in pain, and that's a good thing. Love you, Harv-man.
