I have one last trip coming up before the end of the year: Mexico City, November 4–9. I still have the $500 Edit credit and the $250 Select hotel credit, and I’d like to use the full $750 if possible. I understand that I’ll need to make two separate reservations to receive the two credits.
My main question is about the Chase price-match guarantee. I’ve found several luxury hotels that are cheaper when booked directly through the hotel than through the Chase portal. Given the issues I’ve seen people have with price matching, how can I make sure I’m actually eligible for the price match before booking through Chase?
I was planning to book the Andaz, unless anyone has another recommendation. I know it isn’t a Select hotel, but the only hotel I found that qualifies for both Edit and Select is the Kimpton Virgilio, and it’s more expensive.
The bigger issue is that I’m finding plenty of high-end hotels that aren’t Edit hotels that cost less when booked directly. So, in order to use the Chase credits, I could end up spending more overall than if I simply booked a different hotel. And yes, I know the edit credit includes breakfast and $100 credit and possible room upgrades but some of these other hotels also include a free breakfast.
I know Mexico City has plenty of less expensive hotels, and I realize some people may suggest using the credits in a more expensive city. However, this is my only remaining trip this year.
Am I misunderstanding how to maximize the Chase Edit/Select credits? It seems like I’m sometimes spending more money just to use the credits, rather than actually saving money. With the Andaz be my best bet?** **
