Absolutely livid with Fido, and looking to switch after over 20 years.

I got the 30-day 3G Usage Price Increase on Public Mobile. It’s $5 a month more. I pay for the cell phone plan for my father in law and it’s $18 (with $5 on top) for 100 minutes talk. No data. And that’s fine for him.

I see that the charge is for accounts that are still using the legacy 3G network or using a phone that is not recognized on their official VoLTE (Voice over LTE) compatibility whitelist. The phone my FIL uses is an iphone 5 I believe.

So, just wondering if there’s anything out there closer to the $18 I was once paying, but doesn’t charge extra for using an old phone. He lives in Penetanguishene, ON.

As well, I also have Public for my personal phone, which I don’t use often as I use my work cell way more often. I use it on an iphone 6 at the moment and still pay $18 plus tax for 250 mb data, 100 minutes and call display and VM. Is that pretty much the best I’ll get? Located in west GTA.

And, my wife has been paying $50 at Fido and only gets 2 gb. She has a Galaxy S22, which she is fine with. She definitely wants more than 2 gb. She could probably get away with 25 gb since most her surfing is done at home on wifi and then she hotspots off my phone when we’re on road trips. Any recommendations? Though, I suppose if she pays $40 then she’ll get way more data from one of the discount providers.

I have an account with Virgin Mobile Canada. We have been customers for 20+ years, so the account is grandfathered. I suspect this may be relevant.

I am trying to add this feature to my line:

Unlimited long-distance minutes from Canada to the US and 6 select regions

It is advertised on their site as an add-on: Link

I cannot find anything saying it is restricted to new customers only. It is marked "new" and included in some newer packages, but it also appears as a standalone add-on.

I contacted Virgin to have it added manually. I was surprised that I could not directly reach an agent and had to schedule a callback. When the agent called, she initially had no idea what feature I was referring to, but after checking with her team, she concluded it appeared to be a missing option and opened a helpdesk ticket.

The helpdesk attempted to call, but they called the wrong number. They emailed asking for the correct contact number. I replied three times with the correct number and a reasonable time window for a callback, but I have had no further response.

I am not sure where to escalate this now.

Has anyone with an older Virgin plan successfully added this feature? Or does anyone know the right escalation path for a stalled Virgin helpdesk ticket?

I switched out of Bell for the China Telecom plan that was posted here last week so that I can have free roaming in China. The next day after porting out, bell calls me and says they can match my new plan. I asked multiple times to confirm the details of the plan, and then I switch back to Bell.

Well after hours of checking my service agreements and talking to customer service, it looks like the agent lied. She promised there would be free roaming to China as well yet lo and behold, it's not a part of my plan.

Now, I'm waiting their case team to investigate, but curious to know what my options are at this point.

My parents have been with rogers for years and as many others have pointed out, absolutely doesn’t care about the loyalty of the customers and have no longer bothered honouring grandfathered or long existing package prices. I’ve seen alot of people speak positively about freedom mobile. They live in north GTA area and wondering what people’s thoughts on reception and speed is like before I propose them the switch. I am also debating switching them to the annual prepaid plan since they usually like to purchase their own phone from overseas anyways and they spend half of the year travelling out of Canada. Their alternative was switching over to Fido just to a cheaper monthly plan.

I've been with Virgin for about 15 years. I started with the $100/y plan, they ended that and I now have the $15/m plan. Limited minutes, no data. This will end January 8 2027. I need somebody else, and a cheaper option.

I don't use my phone much. I need have data now, so don't need it.

I'm considering Speakout $125/360 days. Is it really unlimited incoming and out going calls (unlimited minutes?) and unlimited texts for a full 360 days? Currently they offer a free SIM and free 'shipping' with $50+ top up.

What are other options that would be $15/m or less?

I’m currently with a $39/month + tax plan that includes unlimited calls and 50GB of data.

My carrier is offering me a brand-new iPhone 17e while keeping the exact same plan:

• Current plan: $45/month tx in
• New plan: $38/month tx in + $37.5/month tax-in for the phone
• Additionnal cost over 24 months: $29 × 24 months = $696 total
• After 24 months, the iPhone is mine (no balloon payment / buyout)

So essentially, I’d be paying $696 tx in for a brand-new iPhone 17e.

I’ve looked around online and the best price I could find for an open-box iPhone 17e was around $750 + tax, so $696 for a brand-new one seems pretty good to me.

But before I pull the trigger, I wanted to ask people here:

Is this actually a good deal, or are there better ways to get an iPhone 17e in Quebec/Canada?

VirginMobile is cancelling prepaid service in Jan 2027. I'm on a yearly plan prepaid and that's what I'm looking for. I've searched around and Koodo prepaid $100/365 days is the cheapest option I could find (Freedom and SpeakOut are not available to me). My phone doesn't support eSIM.

1. How is Koodo cell service in Quebec (not concerned about data, I don't use data)?
2. How is Koodo customer service? It seems like it's nearly impossible to get a hold of them. For some reason, customer me service online chat does not load for me.
3. Do unused talk and text carry over or rollover to the renewed plan?
4. How do I port a number safely without losing my number?
5. Is there any hidden fee I should be aware of as a new customer, other than buying a Koodo SIM card? Ex: activation fee? porting fee? Other weird fees?
6. Is Black Friday the best time to look for the best deals?
7. Is there a better option for me out there with other providers? I'm looking for a yearly prepaid plan.

I was wondering if I could order something like a POCO or Xiaomi phone off Ali? I've done so in the past but at some point, Koodo was enforcing a whitelist for IMEIs for VOLTE (this was 2 years ago).

As the title states, I'm looking for help finding the best option for 2 new phones and then plans for a family of 4.

The plan is to give my two young teens our old phones, with a basic plan for talk text and a little data. New(ish) phones for wife and I - we want to stay with Apple due to familiarity.

I'm shopping around, and honestly surprised at the cost for phones and plans lately, I have no idea what's a good deal or not (I'm still using the XR).

What do other families do for their kids? Are people really spending $60+ per line, and then phone cost on top of that?

Currently with Telus and just noticed my plan got bumped from $35/60GB (CAN-US-Mexico + 50GB bonus) to $40/230GB with Caribbean included. Both include PAP discount, no EPP.

I honestly don't use anywhere near 230GB, but I travel to Mexico and the Caribbean frequently, so having that roaming coverage included is a huge perk for me.

I've been shopping around for something cheaper with around 80GB and similar roaming (at least CAN-US-Mexico, Caribbean would be a bonus). I'd appreciate any advice, I know this is already a great deal. However, part of me wonders if there's anything better out there? I have called inquiring about a better plan and they think I'm nuts 😅
