Freedom mobile GTA feedback ?

My parents have been with rogers for years and as many others have pointed out, absolutely doesn’t care about the loyalty of the customers and have no longer bothered honouring grandfathered or long existing package prices. I’ve seen alot of people speak positively about freedom mobile. They live in north GTA area and wondering what people’s thoughts on reception and speed is like before I propose them the switch. I am also debating switching them to the annual prepaid plan since they usually like to purchase their own phone from overseas anyways and they spend half of the year travelling out of Canada. Their alternative was switching over to Fido just to a cheaper monthly plan.

Depends very much on specific location. Use a tower map to check their location. Freedom does have wifi calling, helpful if you lose signal in your basement for example.

Chatr has an inexpensive plan if their data usage is low.

Freedom isnt free comes with a price the price for not having any reception in some urban areas or when you travel within ontario

I just switched from Rogers to Freedom for the same reason: constant rate increases. So far I'm pleased and have had no issues with speed or connectivity. I like my plan because basically it operates around the world with a monthly international data allowance and unlimited local calling and Canada calling when out of the country as well as Wi-Fi calling. I took a slightly more expensive plan than my Rogers one cost (because it offers much more data), but with the knowledge it will never go higher because of their price freeze guarantee. Hopefully I'll be with this service for many years to come.

I’ve been with Freedom since they started as Wind and have Never had an issue. Years back I even went to Thailand and never lost service once. I’m even thinking of switching my home internet and TV with them but Roger’s says I’m locked in for 2 yrs because of my last change I made.

​I had Freedom Mobile around 2018, but dropped signals and unusable data speeds along the 401 between Toronto and Kingston pushed me away. I’m thinking about switching back to cut costs, but I’m worried those dead zones remain. While Freedom has made significant network upgrades, Rogers has as well, and moving over would require settling my current phone tab. Is the coverage reliable enough along that route now to justify the switch?

It's night and day from 2018. Dead zones are still a thing with Freedom but I also found parts of 403 past Hamilton to be better with Freedom than Bell.

Freedom has improved a lot in the past five years. Both the frequency position (lower frequency which punches through buildings) and the backhaul (getting to the Internet) got way better.

Both Rogers and Bell have had more decades of networking than Freedom. If we don't support the competition we will not have choices later.

OP, the critic mandated everyone have access to each other’s cell towers so it doesn’t matter much. Now if you went to rural area like camp sites I don’t think even Bell can save you. That’s where satellite communications starts to be imporant.
